I walked into the Lynnfield store about a month ago and had purchased a few items here in the past.I went to look for some outfits for my daughter and I received the nastiest look from the owner and I left the store feeling very uncomfortable. I walked into another store and I looked behind me and the owner accosted me in the middle of the store saying I steal from her stores all the time, including the Marblehead location. I have never walked into the Marblehead store in my life, lol. I was so embarrassed and kept telling her I am not the person she is looking for. She never apologized, but obviously realized I am not the person they are looking for. She said they are looking for a girl that is "short and blonde" like me. The owner has never had the class to apologize. Please do yourself a favor and shop somewhere else. read more

Hip baby gear in Marblehead MA sets the standard for small businesses. I texted the owner last night at 7:30pm while she was out to dinner with her family because I desperately needed a pack and play. By 9pm she had gone to the store (without me asking), grabbed the pack and play she knew I would want and drove it over to my house. It is also the only store that I know of in Massachusetts that has high quality baby gear and anything else you would need actually in the store. Even if you have to drive an hour to get here it is worth getting strollers, cribs, car seats, everything baby here because they will always give you their honest opinion and you can test the products (which online it is impossible to do). read more

We had a great experience here shopping for our first baby!! Before purchasing our stroller there, we got to test push a ton of styles to decide which we like the best. It made us feel very confident about our selection. Their staff also gave us a ton of information on different car seat options so we could select the best option for us! Hip Baby Gear also has a free rewards program we enrolled in that gave us a reward after our stroller purchase which we used on our car seat. I've only been to the newer store but there's not a separate yelp page for it. If they're helping someone they don't even acknowledge anyone else who comes in. Left waiting & waiting to pay without even a head nod. Overheard their employee saying negative stuff about other stores which is off putting. I can't say enough positive things about Hip Baby Gear. Babies R Us is VERY overwhelming, not Hip Baby Gear. It is warm, inviting and you'll want to stay their for hours and check everything out. I was deciding between two different strollers and Sarah was SUPER helpful and went above and beyond giving me details, pros/cons, etc about each stroller. She wasn't pushy towards one system or another - she let me make my own decision and just answered my questions. While we did register a BRU, we also registered at Hip Baby Gear for so many of the unique and different items that BRU doesn't carry. I can't wait to shop their more! read more

I stopped in Hip Baby Gear after finding out I was expecting, just to poke around. Right from the start Jamie, the owner, was so helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable. Moreover, she had such high-end, best in the market products - not just top products from the U.S. but also Europe - I just knew I had to come back and do my registry here. When the time came, I scheduled an appointment and Jamie walked through my entire registry with me. The best part is she knows so much about her products, and she is a mother as well, so she is honest about what you really need versus what is a nice to have. Also, she works with you to choose the products that best suit your lifestyle and purpose. She doesn't try to push a certain product/brand down your throat. Another added bonus, because I was having my shower in Marblehead she not only gave my guests the option to have gifts purchased from her store gift-wrapped but she is also delivering it to the venue for them as well. 1.5 stars might be a better rating. 1.5 stars for a good deal on a City Select double stroller, which was shipped promptly to me. Much appreciated! However, no stars for the fact that two pieces of my order were apparently never shipped (a Boon Stem and Diono Buggy Buddy). I sent several messages to customer service via email and the store's website. I also tried calling the store several times and never got a response, even though I called during store hours and left a message since the clerk was presumably occupied with a customer. I try to avoid calling out a business on social media, but two months later I finally posted on Hip Baby Gear's Facebook page, only to receive no response. I noticed today that my post was deleted. The dollar amount of the items I'm missing is not high, but the fact remains that they weren't shipped even though I paid for them. More importantly, I've received zero response from the store despite pursuing multiple methods of communication. To me, that's the real customer service issue. At this point, I'd either like my items shipped immediately or a refund of the cost. Happy to provide my order information...if someone would just get in touch with me! Ugh. read more

My experience was at the Salem store, which has since closed, but it fits. Prior Salem review: Hip Baby Gear is absolutely your number 1 local stop for high end, why would anyone buy something so expensive for a baby, baby gear. I don't mean that in a bad way. My wife is a self-described stroller snob. Nothing available at Babies 'R' Us was good enough for her, as she has admitted to judging people with low end strollers. How ridiculous, I say, but extremely hormonal pregnant women who are morning sick through 28 weeks shouldn't be trifled with (that's your pro tip for the day). Enter Hip Baby Gear. Went in here on a whim, and was looking at a Mountain Buggy Swift. It's a smaller version of the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle. List price for this particular stroller is $449, or about $250 more than I'd ever agree to normally spend on a stroller. (See previous note about trifling with hormonal pregnant wives.) On the day that I was in there they were offering a $50 gift card on any Mountain Buggy stroller purchase. They also offered me a 10% discount on the display model, which looked pristine. Still I said no, while continuing to browse. Pointed out a few things we'd registered for and asked whether they were good. Was offered those items for free if I bought the stroller. By the time I left, I had the stroller, a Skiphop changing wallet, a $50 gift card, a $25 store credit from their rewards program, strap covers and a stroller bolster all for less than $400. But what was priceless was appeasing the previously mentioned pregnant wife, while maintaining my cheapskate tendencies. In addition to strollers and stuff, they have some very nice diaper bags, tubs, feeding supplies, clothes and other cool baby gadgets. My husband and I just walked in to quickly take a look around, and were greeted by the best customer service ever! The owners are a couple who are extremely kind, they did not push any products, just noticed that my husband have his ergo baby on all wrong and kindly offered to help him fix it (which provided immediate relief for him as well as the baby). I inquired if they had a baby carrier for my short stature, they had me try the Stokke carrier, which was a perfect match! They have great products for competitive prices. I was in Hip Baby Gear about a month ago browsing the store before I committed buying anything for my many friends and family members with infants - I had such a great time! The girl that was working was super funny and really made the experience for me. I think her name was Karen? As a mother that has already been through the baby-phases, it was refreshing to be in a store where the associate wasn't breathing down my neck! Honestly, I usually shy away from local places, because the store employees are always on you like a hawk! Anyway, I went back this week and the experience wasn't the same without Karen's (maybe, Kathy?), personality! It was so nice to talk to a REAL person and not some robotic please-buy-things-before-we-go-out-of-business representative. Fantastic store. As others have noted it isn't overwhelming like BRU and has some great items. We were there to check out the Mountain Buggy strollers (hard to find in this area) and Mindy was extremely helpful. I felt terribly that we didn't end up purchasing there but they only had the "designer" colors and I just didn't like the options. The price of the stroller was the same as amazon so I don't think they are particularly expensive, despite their Marblehead location. read more

Cute store with some good stuff, and a great cafe right next door. But what we don't really enjoy: We have tried calling at least 15-20 times during a two week period and not once have they answered their phone. When we went in the first time we explained and they said they're just really busy but the place was empty. It was empty the second time too. We also left a message a week ago and no call has been returned either. Total turn off since we have to go there to actually speak to someone unless that's their method of doing business. They also don't have all merchandise to try like the strollers. First Lady there when we visited was nice. The second time around seemed like the person had no clue. read more

I purchased a car seat / stroller adapter from the website back on 1/30. Hip Baby withdrew the $$ from my account immediately, even though I have yet to receive a shipping notification. I've called and left 3 voice-mails (where it states I will receive a call back with 24 hours), and emailed both "rick" and the info email distribution 3 times, and have yet to hear back from anyone. I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere if you need anything for your baby as this customer services is lacking beyond belief!! read more

I was looking for a new stroller (double) and after being to Buy Buy Baby and Babies R Us (where the help is less than helpful). I was recommended to goto Hip Baby Gear. I am so GLAD I did! It is a cute boutique with GREAT selection of strollers. The manager Brittany was super knowledgeable and helpful, friendly and patient. I recently purchased a City Select Double from Hip Baby Gear. The seat fabric of one of the chairs was ripped on arrival. Although Rick from Hip Baby Gear promised to have new seat fabric out to us immediately, four months have passed and all seven of my emails have been ignored and simply not responded to at all. Ok, so maybe I shouldn't have been surprised. Rude salesperson? Marblehead? It's practically redundant. But I like to support local businesses so rather than order my Tea Collection clothes online I figured I'd venture out to Hip Baby Gear. A very cute store. Very cute high end things. However the sullen 20-something salesperson ruined what would have been a charming holiday shopping trip. Early this morning I was the only shopper in the store, trying to juggle two toddlers while trying to find a dress and leggings that match and were the same size, when I asked the said young salesperson for help finding a size and her response was a curt "What's there is all we have" and went back to doing nothing behind the counter, never leaving her chair. I asked about wrapping or a box for the gift and was told that she could put some tissue in the store bag. Not exactly the great customer service I'd expect for paying so much money, next time I'll just fork up the shipping and buy online. read more

I live in the USA and wanted to gift a Stokke chair + accessories to a friend in Cyprus. I got excited that Hip Baby Gear delivers internationally and placed an online order. The charge for the order has been taken out from my account immediately and I have received a confirmation from customer service (Rick). I have then followed up with their customer service to request a quote for the international shipment. I waited for 3 days and wrote another email (copying their manager named Brittany) asking for the same information. In another 2 days I received a reply saying they're working on the quote and that they will let me know shortly. It has now been 10 days since the order and I still have no answer from them. I called the store and they said I need to correspond via email for intl. shipping orders. It is very shameful how I have to run after the customer service staff to actually make sure my order is shipped. It is a first time I am experiencing such poor and careless customer service. My last email was a final request for the quote or cancelation of order and full refund. Let's see when they reply. read more
