This is the third time we used Exela Movers. It seems like they are getting better with age! They were on time and ready to go with our move from Burlington Ma to the lakes region of NH. They wrapped everything with moving cloth and cellophane over the cloth. Super careful so nothing ever gets damaged. Daniel, Levi and Dragan went over and above to make sure we were happy with our move. Daniel, Robert, and Dan for Exela at it again, making the misery that is moving less of a misery. I used Exela to move into this place and I used them to move out. I was really worried because I had all these loose hand weights and plate weights and there's really no good way to package them. I was really worried that they would have a hard time finding a way to move them without creating a headache for themselves. When they arrived I pointed out all my kettlebells and my hand weights and my plates and I was waiting for them to look all exasperated and overwhelmed. Instead they said no problem and they just figured it out and all my stuff including my home gym, arrived without a single thing broken. I don't even know how they moved all my weights but I was only 20 ft away and the other room minding my business, (trying to avoid my own anxiety) and I didn't hear any clinging of any weights so don't ask me how those weights moved from point A to point B without me hearing anything, truly it's a miracle. In some ways I hope I never have to move again, but the pain of moving is really taken away when I use this team, really. Why can't every other service run like this? Why can't I order a sandwich properly without it being messed up three times at a restaurant, but these guys move tens of thousands of dollars worth of property across town and nothing goes wrong. While I acknowledge that many individuals had a good experience with Exela Movers, I was not satisfied with the work from the central office in organizing my move from Massachusetts to New York. Giving two stars ultimately came down to the central office failing to communicate logistics that were necessary with my move when there was ample time to be flexible that caused my move in to be much more difficult and stressful than it needed to be. I gave two stars rather than one star because the movers themselves were outstanding. My issue centers on the central office organization, which is a problem with a moving company because moving is predominantly about logistics. They were also unprofessional when I called them about this issue, claiming that there were factors beyond their control (traffic and not having their moving crews waking up too early), despite them telling me a month prior that I should choose an earlier morning move-in window with them also saying they were familiar with the building I moved into and driving into NYC. They told me a day before moving in they would be arriving later than anticipated, causing me to miss my move-in window, adding stress and complications to my move-in. When I called them about this, they said I needed to be understanding and that there were factors beyond their control, which took place after I additionally provided them with the emails of them telling me to select the earlier window. Positives: - The movers who helped with the move were outstanding and very attentive. They cared about their work, took the time to help us settle, and were professional. Items were undamaged on arrival. - The price was reasonable. Negatives: - The original quote that they provided for me was quite a bit below what I actually paid, including accounting for a more complicated move (we had to change our move-in date, which required using their storage). Despite providing them with full information on my apartment and where I was going, including pictures, they originally suggested having 2 movers rather than the 3 they needed. This produced a quote that quite underestimated what I paid. - A month before the move, I gave the company two move-in windows so I could move into my building (NYC apartments require this). They told me to pick the 8-11 AM move-in window, rather than 2-5 or opting for another day where they could arrive more midday. This was necessary for reserving the elevator. One day before the move in, they said that the window would be 10-2. They arrived on the day of delivery at 11:15, ultimately being ready to move things in at 11:45, which was 45 minutes later than the window I was told to reserve and conflicted with another person who was moving in from 12-3. This slowed down my move and caused a lot of stress. - They did not further communicate the need to have a parking spot available for them. They mentioned it once and I said the building did not have a spot reserved. They did not suggest I take extra time to hold onto a parking spot on their behalf for street parking, which caused the movers stress when they arrived, which then caused me stress. - When I called them about the late arrival window, they claimed that they were meeting expectations because they arrived during the window that they provided the day before, which was different from the one that we agreed on a month before. When I told them that this did not work with the building and provided them with the emails that documented them telling me to select the 8-11 window, the office argued with me, saying that there were factors beyond their control (traffic) and they did not want to have their movers waking up too early. I can understand both of these factors. What I do not understand is why they would have originally suggested this time in the first place, if these were issues. As a consequence of this, I had to take nearly a full day off of work rather than 1/2 a day, which negatively affected my transition to a new job as others depend on me as a physician. Their attempt to improve the situation was taking off 1/2 hour of the 3 mover fee, which did not make up for the situation or the lost experience and time of missing more work. In summary, you may have a good experience with Exela movers, as others have. The movers themselves are great. I personally had an unacceptable experience with them as they provided me with guidance that they decided would not work at the last minute, which did not work with where I was moving in, causing much more stress and difficulty than I was believed I should expect with the company. I will not use the company again and cannot recommend the company from this experience. read more

We recently hired Excela movers for a cross state move. We were quoted for a 16 ft truck but weren't sure it would be enough. We worked with Alex and were able to have a video call to show him all our boxes and furniture to ensure we had the appropriate truck size for the move. He was courteous and professional. On move day, the movers showed up on time and were very kind and professional as well. They not only wrapped all our furniture, but also payed attention to small details, such as securing cabinet shelve holders etc. This was the smoothest and easiest move we've ever had. We used Exela Movers twice: Once when we moved our stuff to a storage unit and went to my home country for a year during the pandemic, and once when we came back, to move from the storage unit to our new apartment. Both times we were extremely satisfied. Exela Movers were fast, capable, and pleasant to deal with. After seeing how they worked, we trusted them enough to let them load our stuff to the storage unit without us being there, and with practically no supervision when we moved in to the new flat. We were impressed at how they arranged our stuff to fit in the storage unit -- that was a work of art! None of our belongings was damaged, which is a common issue with other movers. They are not cheap; the cost was hard to bear both times and really pushed our budget. The total came to about $3200 ($2200 when we moved to the storage unit and $1000 when we moved in to our new flat) for a 2br condo with partial packing and no unpacking except furniture. But it was worth it, because we knew that the job was done right. One tiny nitpick: We had to rearrange the (adjustable) shelves in the bookcases as they were not put back the same way they were before. But that was pretty easy to fix, and remember they were working with almost no supervision most of the time, so it's kind of normal that they wouldn't remember the exact configuration of our shelves! First experience using an actual mover instead of relying on family, friends, etc.! Moved during pandemic Spring, 2021 on Friday of Memorial Day weekend from Saugus to Salem, NH. Had to be out of Saugus home quickly for buyer inspection and Exela was totally efficient. Moving team had to wait for us to get to new home as the closing was delayed several hours thanks to an old fashioned attorney who did not electronically deposit purchaser funds! Anyway, once we gave them to go-ahead, they worked like a machine getting our items into our new three floor home and moving items to the properly marked rooms (as marked on the boxes). Price was reasonable, especially given the extra aggravation of a long weekend and delayed closing! The team even remained pleasant during the delay! I got a bunch of quotes from different companies. They all seemed to use the same automated estimate generator (or something very similar), which kind of sucked. I ended up having to call Alexe at Exela to get a better estimate and it was a bit rocky connecting with him and getting a final estimate. We worked through it though, and Exela came in middle-of-the-pack on price. Based on their good reviews and moderate price, I chose to go with Exela. Another company had slightly better reviews but higher price, and another had similar reviews but a seemingly unrealistically low price (it was probably completely off, and it made me trust them less). In the end, the estimate was about 15% under the actual final cost, which honestly is about what I expect (I don't think any of these companies are incentivized to over-estimate, so they're more likely to under-estimate). Anyway, now to the important part. I had a day of packing and a day of moving. The crew was great. It was nice getting to know them over the course of the two days. They did really good work, were polite, and moved every last thing without any damage. My favorite thing about them is that they weren't just robots programmed to move things from point A to point B. They were problem solvers. When issues came up, they just came up with a solution to the best of their ability. There were several examples of this, but my favorite was when they found a way to get a sofa up to my 2nd floor via a window. They tried all sorts of things before that, weighing pros/cons, assessing risk. Really happy with that. Anyway, bottom line, if I had to move again (which I hope I don't), I'd hire Exela in a heartbeat. read more
