What a wonderful store! The sales clerks are awesome and attentive. I've been hesitant to shop downtown because of Covid and all of the tourists. No worries here Cupcakes! There is minimal risk of infection at Asheville's most wonderful boutique! They are all masked up and make sure that their patrons are as well. They limit the number of people allowed in the shop, they steam clean any clothes that have been tried on and they disinfect the store between shoppers. If you have a problem with their safety protocols then you are a twit and should crawl back into the darkness from whence you came! Can't wait to shop there again! xoxo read more

Had a bad experience at Hipster Replacements. Waited outside for for like 10 minutes for our turn to go in because it was one in/one out for covid. Finally someone left and we were anxious to go in to check out the merch, but The hipster shop keeper came out and said, "sorry folks, we gotta steam the clothing to disinfect". Whatever that means. He knew were weren't locals and didn't like us. End of story. We won't be going back. read more

Bleh. The selection was bad (and I can find something I want ANYWHERE) and the guy who was working was so bored with life and everyone in the store that it was actually uncomfortable to even look around. Don't waste your time here. Go to the Honey Pot down the street, where the selection is better, the interior is cute, and the employees are nice. read more

I love Hip Replacements! They have great style. I'm not a hippie, and it's nice to find a store that carries stuff w/a little more edge. They carry both vintage & new stuff. They support local artists. They're not a rip-off. They're super-nice. They have a shop dog named Bernie. They have cool accessories. They'll tell you if something looks good or not. And I need to say this one again: They're super-nice!!! Warm, friendly, and not at all snotty or pretentious. Hooray for Hip Replacements!!! It reminds me of a store on the LES of NY called Atomic Passion. Damn I used to love that store. read more

Very much a below average selection of items, and the ones that were good were "local designer" which were then wayyyyy over-priced. Finding someone to help you not gonna happen. Overall a place for people that don't really know what vintage / indie clothing prices/quality should be. Skip it. read more

I'm sorry but I have to redo my last review and just like I said previously the customer service and the layout need some work in my opinion. This will be our official last time visiting this place. So like I said in my last post we came here had a horrible experience but visited again and had a fantastic experience. This time again the person behind the counter hardly said anything to us. What really upset me was that the bigger or plus size clothing were in the back corner with a huge sign. Wow!!! Way to call us out. Like we need a totally different section than everyone else!? We can't shop with the smaller people? We have to be shoved in the back corner? They weren't clearance items, they weren't different styles, but instead the exact same items that were in the front of the store but these were shoved in the back corner like they need to be separated. Between the customer service, the horrible layout and insane prices I will just stick with going down the street where I can get the same styles, feel included and save some money. read more

Loved the clothes, the sales rack is super great. But the SMELL was horrendous, like some sort of cigarettes or something but it was very off putting. Asheville is a wonderful place to buy this kinda of clothing and this store is no exception. read more

This place is overrated. I went in to look for some vintage clothing, and it's all items I can get at the thrift store for a fraction of the cost. Wheover was working the counter didn't even acknowledge my presence, so I left within a few minutes. read more

Clever name, adorable store! Vintage style dresses and shoes pose provocatively amidst a whirl of classic tunes. I found a pair of black knee length leggings adorned with ruffles and bows at the cuff. Also, a pair of navy, pin-up girl look shorts made their way into my heart and wardrobe. The clerk was polite and friendly, pointing out that the shorts were not on the "sale" end of the rack. I assured her that I knew and was willing to fork out a few extra bucks for the gam showcasing shorts. I will shop there until my own hip needs replacing! read more

Charming little hipster shop! Fun findings that range from upcycled steampunk necklaces to local designer hats/clothing. I bought 2 hats and a great leather cuff. The shopkeeper was a fantastically dressed dapper dude with a great fierce presence. On my first visit to Asheville, I'm elated to have found this stomping ground. Although mildly pricey, I found it to be within range of other shops in the area. read more

First of all, the shop is adorable and super cool. But, the care they have for their customers is even better. I'm from out of town and decided to stop in Asheville on the way to my destination. I bought a ring and some shirts. But found that my ring wasn't placed in my bag once i'd left town. Not sure if that was my error or their's. I contacted them and asked if they had seen it, but they hadn't. So I said i'd look again and if I found it I'd be in touch. Never found the ring but I didn't think much could be done considering the situation. The owner contacted me a few days later and told me that they had another they would ship to me free of charge. It's not often to come across such kind businesses willing to go out of their way to please a customer especially from another state. I'll definitely stop by next time i'm in town and I suggest you do too. :) read more

This is a great little shop that I have been going to for years. I always stop by when I am in town and invariably leave with something! They carry women's and men's clothing and accessories. If you're looking for something a little bit different and not available at your local mall, this is the perfect place. read more

Just by speaking on the phone, I won't be shopping there. Very rude. "You buy and trade vintage yes". Response : "Ummmm not really haha." Me: Excuse me? Her: "We don't really buy men's vintage". Me: "Just because I'm a man doesn't mean it was men's. Its not, its vintage Thierry Mugler. Her: 'no we wouldn't be interested in that' Right...a waste of time and an airhead for an employee. I went into nearly every store with a women's section on Lexington, and Hip Replacements was the one place I bought something at. It's pricier than it needs to be. But the clothes are nice, and I dig what it represents - classic vintage style, contemporary presentation (and unfortunately prices, too). A visit to Hip Replacements is always an enjoyable experience. Kip and Franzi are some of the friendliest folks I've met in town and conversation is always a welcome bonus to the shopping fun. My wife always finds the high end goods while I walk away with some rad vintage finds. The selection is based on the principle of quality over quantity and that is how it should be. I recently purchased a shirt that indicates the true story of me being raised by wolves. It's been a hit at all the parties and social gatherings I don't go to. Was visiting from out of town, decided to just wonder around Asheville and stumbled into this little boutique. The men's section was small, but filled with great looks. I picked up a pretty sweet tee and some cologne. It is a little pricey, but after checking online at what other stores offered, it's a fair price for quality items. Every item in the store had a unique look to it and fit the vintage inspired theme of the store. The staff was really friendly, the guy who ran the store took my email when I couldn't find the size of a tee shirt I wanted, and he offered to send me an e-mail when it was available, and ship it to me if I would like. He genuinely seemed interested in making sure I had a good experience at his store, and was not pushy at all. Overall it was a great store filled with Asheville charm. read more

I Love the clothes and shoes that this store has and I have always made it a point to go by each time I am in town. However, the last 2 times I have been, the employee working there has been so rude. Once was a year ago and I was 8 months pregnant. I bought $160 worth of items and before leaving asked if I could use the restroom. The lady said "um no. The bathroom is for employees only". Ok- not a big deal, but I was back again yesterday and tried on a pair of shoes. I was looking in the mirror and was telling my husband how cute they were and I wanted to get them. Then the guy working walked up to us and said "I'm sorry, I'm going to have to ask you to leave. I need to go somewhere - I'll be back in 20 minutes." I asked if he was serious and that I wanted to get the shoes. He said he was serious and was standing by the door and asked us to leave now. He said I could come back later if I wanted the shoes. I love the idea behind it but I wish they had more to chose from. All I found were mainly dresses only a few tops for women. I would visit this shop constantly if they kept the selection of dresses they already have and added a few more racks of tops and bottoms and maybe a little more acessories and makeup, like lime crime. No one carries it and its perfect for a 50s pinup look. I didnt like the fact that other small shops in the area discourage you from going into each others shops. I had one at another shop that did not try to show me one piece of clothing. When I told her I was looking for a 50s look, she said to try a shop clean across town bc downtown was too expensive.....ummm you work at one of those expensive shops! Another vintage shop, the girl stayed on her phone texting her BF. I think she might have looked up twice and when I asked for help, she said that I just needed to bring in the outfit that I was going to be pairing the top with and just kept texting. The rap music was so loud and obscenely vulgar that i just quickly left and I listen to heavy metal. So I would say if you are brave and want to venture through "Downtown Asheville" and love vintage inspired clothes, then Hip Replacement is your best bet...at least they have great clothes and there not A**Holes there! read more
