Crowds were manageable and any line we stood in (whether it was for the tractor to take us to the orchard or in the bakery to buy goods) didn't take long to go through. Loved that there was no additional fee to ride the tractors to the orchards. The one downside is that while there is a bakery, there is no food stall to buy lunch or snacks like chips or hot dogs. If you plan on spending a portion of your day there, you'll want to be sure to bring a cooler with food. We made the mistake of assuming there would be things to buy for lunch and we left starving after snacking on a couple of apple cider donuts.

Mom and I chose the Flower Power Sunflower Pass, which included admission, a single cut-your-own sunflower, a souvenir mason jar lemonade (booze optional) and a pretty faux flower crown. It added a fun, whimsical touch to the day and made for even better photos! There was an option to fill a cut-your-own vase in the field for $10. The ride to the fields is part of the fun. Slow your mind and enjoy the journey. Once in the field, we skipped the walk up lookout, but took advantage of some of the unique photo opportunities throughout, including a flower arch, bicycle, oversized wicker basket and giant branded watering can, to name a few. The one downside was the mud. The previous day's rain made the ground soggy, and my sneakers sank in amongst the stalks once immediately off the main trail. Eckert's spread hay on some of the muddier areas, which helped absorb some moisture. Waterproof shoes or rain boots are a smart choice if there's been rain. I also recommend sunscreen, bug spray, hats and sunglasses. Pro tip: buy your tickets online ahead of time. I recommend going as early in sunflower season as possible. Quite a few of the blooms immediately alongside the trail had already been cut, despite signs asking visitors not to do so. There were still PLENTY of beautiful sunflowers to enjoy, along with a gorgeous field of colorful zinnias, but access was muddy overall. I know - it's a farm - and there will be dirt, but I hadn't recalled the field being so wet on previous visits over the years, so just tossing out a heads up on proper footwear and such. :) Although our wristbands gave us access to the peach trees also, we opted for picking them up from the Country Store instead! We finished the day with lunch at the restaurant, where I had some of the BEST fried chicken I've ever had. Perfectly coated and fried. It was a great topper on a wonderful day out with my mother. PS Because we were stuffed to the gills, we opted to take two slices of peach pie to go and that was one of the best decisions I've made all year. It's got a delicious homemade quality that is increasingly hard to find. It was stuffed with the freshest, sweetest peaches around. Don't miss out, dude.

Saturday morning,…read moreYelpers Stephanie S. and Kathi M. and I made the trek all the way to St. Peters, only to have the farm closed for picking at 8:45am! WTF? They were that busy! I was bound and determined to go again and thus hatched my plot to get up early (and I'm NOT a morning person), arrive at the farm early, on a day during the week, when rain was in the forecast. This time, my plotting yielded success! Lakeview Farms is a pretty small U-Pick operation that's in St. Peters. It's really easy to find (score!) and has raspberry and strawberry patches. They also have pumpkins and gourds in the fall. They have a good website with up to date information on picking seasons. They also have a recorded message. They tell you to call the day beforehand to make sure picking conditions are good. It's hard to know when they are going to be picked out for the day. They say they are open from 7:30-11am but they often close way before 11. GO EARLY. Like 8am at the latest! Otherwise you might have trekked out there for nothing. One cool thing about this farm is that instead of going on a picking free for all, they give you your own area to pick in. That way, no one is infringing upon your territory and they can keep track of where has been picked over so the next person who comes to pick goes in an area with riper, not yet picked berries. That's a good model in my mind! When you arrive, you get your container(s), they tell you where to pick, and you do your thing. Then you go pay (CASH OR CHECK ONLY) and they either weigh your bounty (for strawberries) or do it by the container (for raspberries). I picked raspberries this morning and they added up to be less than $2 for one of the standard sized grocery store containers that costs a good $3-4. And you are REALLY buying locally! AND it's fun for kids and adults! They also have something called "digging for diamonds" where you can dig in sand hills for shiny rocks. The sky was ominous and it looked like it was about to pour when I left, so I was in a hurry and didn't ask about it. Another tip: A lot of the raspberries that are ripest and juiciest are in the middle of the bushes, which are thorny. You might want to bring a pair of garden gloves to prevent the ouchies! Oh yeah, and wear tennis shoes. There is mud and the grass is sorta long. I'd give this place 5 stars if I didn't have to get there so darn early to pick! But then again, props for it being a small locally owned place. And CHEAP. I definitely will be back SOON!

However, you don't get an experience at Costco! When you check out, fill out a card for a pint of free strawberries for the following summer. Also, hold onto your crate! My Grant's Farm experience has been limited to the Christmas light show and Christmas village…read moreexperience but recently I've added the Clydesdale tour which was fantastic and a one of a kind experience getting to meet these magnificent creatures. My brain wasn't working correctly and we missed our tour time but the guide was kind enough to take us along during their tour. Mind you, we got there an hour and a half early but the brain cells died or something. Anyway, we got to pet the Clydesdales and had a close encounter with one. These horses are huge and very beautiful. We got to see a couple of them getting bathed and they were so gentle and well-behaved, I was quite impressed! The tour includes a free adult beverage or water for those under 21 or those who prefers a water instead. Our tour guide was amazing. I think she said her name was Linda. She was very kind and didn't even want any gratuity explaining that her role is a volunteer one. She's a retired educator and you can tell with the patience she had with her rather large tour group. The ticket price for the tour was pretty reasonable for the experience you're getting. You do pay for parking but you can take the tram for free to the village area for more activities. Unfortunately, we ran out of time the day of our tour so we didn't make it up to the village. You can take the trails (bike or on foot) and visit the farm though! When it's nicer outside, I fully intend to do so.

Wait til the later hours of the day.. and every shop will be empty that you went for! I've learned this too many times in my sleep-in days, to get there way too late to find so many of the shops sold out, or the "runts" of the sales left. So figure out Early and then getup before then! Step 3: Get in your car and go shopping!!! (Follow the map of course!) Plain and simple you want fresh produce.. this is where you go. Whether it's veggies,. meats, baked goods, coffee, soaps, sweets, snacks, and even alchy beverages if you so desire! (and you just might as the day goes on) Get there early and load up! (Just warning you, you may have to make a few runs between your shops and your car, considering what you -could- load up on. Now as stated by many, it's a smorgasboard of what you can find, all along the entire market.
