Hippie Hollow Park. The only nude "beach" in Austin. "Beach" in parentheses because it's not a sandy beach where you lay out flat in the sugary sand. It's rocky. Cliffs. It's a hike down and hike back up. So be prepared. When you drive into the parking lot. It's $8.00 and it's CASH ONLY. You are told about the rules. And if you see something, say something. You're given a phone number to call if you see something lewd. You can bring in alcohol, but be discreet about it. Obviously no glass! And put it in a Yeti or something. Be discreet with alcohol. The parking lot is massive! With handicap parking spaces. And porta potties. There are bathrooms on the paved pathway. Which are down below in the nude "clothing optional" area. And off the main paved pathway, there are numbers 1 through 14. These are stairs to get down to the water. The stairs only go part of the way. The rest is up to you. Looked like as the numbers went up, 4, 5, and so on, it got worse. When the stairs ended it was rough getting down. I went all the way to stair pathway 10, then turned back around. And ended up at stair pathway 1. 1 is the easiest, But it still was hard. I got here around 10:30am. It was cloudy and actually sprinkled a little, but this is Texas, that sun came out and shone down on my bare butt! Yup. 55 year old Birthday suit, no shame. Found a spot that was level enough. Got out my beach blanket. And chilled. Had my music and head phones, lots of Kangen drinking water. Just enjoyed Mother Nature, the water, the view, parasailing way out in the distance. You can see the Mansfield damn. Which I've never seen from this side before. Was pretty cool. There are big orange buoys out in the distance. Water was wicked choppy. I didn't swim out too far. I'm a strong swimmer, but I don't need to risk it. I did wear water shoes when I went in the water. The rocks are slippery and it was hard for me to get out. With the waves knocking me down, the rocks being slippery even with shoes on, I actually had to be rescued by a guy that was laying out near me. I'm sure he must have said, should I help or not, cause, we're nude and being respectful. But he did help and that was very nice of him. I was laughing the whole time and thanking him. I mean, seriously Shannon! Haha Later "he" went in the water and invited me to join him. Which he also offered to help me out too. We both laughed. Had a great time. Talked with each other. Got a little more busy with beach goers around noonish. But we were the only ones in the water. The water was absolutely gorgeous. Was the perfect temp! Some people have beach tents. A saw a hammock. Umbrellas. Coolers. So people get right into it. I'll try to be better prepared next time. But my point is, it's a nude optional beach, and yes people keep to themselves. No one is really walking up to you and talking about the weather. I will say watch out for those little ants. My blanket wasn't long enough when I laid out, and I got ant bites on my toes. So mental note, bigger blanket. Of course you can't take pictures of people. And people are very respectful of your privacy and private parts. No one is just there goking at you. Was a great 3 hours. Totally come here again. But better prepared. Honestly I didn't think I'd be there that long. But I was having the best time being free. read more

This park is unique park from the standpoint that it is the only legal clothing-optional park in Texas overlooking Lake Travis. It's clothing optional so feel free to keep your clothes on if being naked around others isn't your thing. It's very rocky and a bit treacherous as you walk/climb down to the water, so you need to wear appropriate shoes. Flip flops will not be a good experience. I love Hippie Hollow. Lake Travis is beautiful and the walk down limestone steps; a smooth walkway and climbing over the rocks to get to the water is worth it. I enjoy swimming nude and people are friendly and pleasant. Nudity makes for equality. I enjoy taking a nude hike along the pathways with other nudists. Wife and I went for our first time, knowing it was clothing optional but not knowing exactly what we'd see. Wife started out topless. I still had my trunks on. 4 hours later we were both in the "optional" phase. It was actually very comfortable feeling, easy going, water was beautiful as was the natural scenery. The mixture of nude, topless, and clothes was pretty even this day. Most women were topless, but there was a handful fully nude. The men took up the largest percentage of nude individuals. If your looking to go just to view nude bay watch style women, this isn't the place. There's are your normal every day people of all ages. The folks we were around were extremely friendly. There wasn't any odd feeling about it all. For the women, be aware there are the occasional creepers, that we noticed. We say 4 or 5 guys fully dressed in street clothes just sitting around watching the ladies. Most folks stayed put, especially the obvious regulars. There were a handful of guys that were nude that constantly walked around. The area is "sectioned" off by numbers. We were informed that the for end from #10-14 consisted of a lot of men. This was also where the party barges seem to congregate. #1-2 was the first access point, more people. This is a rock lake, don't expect sand. There are some large rocks, if your barefoot expect to get some stuff toes especially if the water is exceptionally wavy. There are some stair systems that start you down a short trail to the bathing area, but you still have to traverse some large rocks and small boulders and even a few 2-4 foot rock ledges to get to a sitting spot as well as the water line. Love this place. Except the water level at Travis lake keeps going down so the walk down to the water keeps getting longer and longer each time I come back. The water feels a lot warmer too. Make sure to bring good shoes, it's a bunch of rocks going down, and it can get pretty difficult if you aren't prepared or if it's your first time. Always make sure to bring sun block because unless your at the top where the trees are at, there's no shade near the water and you will burn. If you do stay by the trees, I bring a hammock which works great, you'll be comfortable. Bring a bunch of water and a float, it gets deep in the water real quick. I always see a bunch of people with goggles, but I feel the water isn't as clear as used to be. I heard from a friend that's never been here that there's "sections" to hippie hollow, some people go far down, some stay near the entrance, etc. I'm unfamiliar with all that, but I do suggest you going with someone who you feel safe with because the perverts will always be there, and it can get uncomfortable if you're not used to being nude in public. Besides that though, most liberating park in Austin, definitely recommend you go and get a full tan. read more

Austin City managed park, total nudity is permitted, actually anticipated. Cost is $8 / person ($3 for seniors). When you come through the kiosk and pay, the ranger tells you 'no nudity in the parking lot, no lewd behavior, they close at 7.' Paved parking lot and level road (once you descend about 50' to the park road. The park road is paved, level and quite long, maybe 1-1/2 miles? Relatively steep and rocky access to the water, large boulders. There are many sets of stairs but they don't reach the water's edge. There is one handicap access set that has a great view from the end of the wheelchair ramp, but no water access. There are real restrooms with running water, not just ports-potties! You'll see a lot of naked people, some are not in too great of shape, but many of them have great bodies to gaze upon so long as you don't get creepy (I think because it's basically a walking / hiking environment is why there are so many good looking bodies!). The water was nice today (October 4), not too warm but definitely not cold! I'd give it 5 stars except that the access and shore are completely boulder covered, and that won't change! read more

This place was so magical I came back twice! Easily accessible by taking a reasonably priced Lyft over from South Lamar. Bring water and some food and you're good to go. Located on Lake Travis, usually the water is not up so high when I was there early in the season, but Austin had been hit with some serious storms and I was lucky enough to take advantage of the situation. If you're going earlier in the season check the water levels before making the trip. HH is not like a traditional sand beach, in fact there is no sand. There are jagged rocks with large flat surfaces you can stretch out on. Some areas have benches and less steep rocks and these tend to be more crowded. The area is pretty small and can get tight on weekends, but I went on weekdays and it was very chill. Stairs lead you down to different sections but then you essentially pick your way over the rocks to find a spot, sometimes maneuvering around others as you go. The view is gorgeous, the crowds chill, like most naturalist spaces the regulars are friendly and community oriented. I ended up making friends with some locals and got invited to a beautiful locally sourced hippy potlock the next night. In short, the community is really cool and welcoming, people know and look out for each other here. Entry is $8 on weekdays. There are some poisonous water snakes sometimes, just avoid sticking too close to the rocks when you go into the water and you'll be fine. Water shoes are recommended for the sharp mussel shells. Water can be a little choppy on windy days. There are tons of butterflies! Bathrooms have no doors on the stalls. There are water fountains and a basic outdoor hose connected to a pour spout as a shower. Bring something to share, others will share with you, and smile, you're in Texas! read more

Hippy Hollow Park is right off Lake Travis. It's where folks sunbathe on the rocky shoreline and chill in the lake. NOTE that it's clothing optional so you will see naked people! I've skinny dipped before, but it was always in the dark so this was my first real experience of being nude in public. In the beginning, it felt weird, but after a while you get over that feeling. Just let it all out because everybody else is just chillin' in their birthday suits, minding their own business. If you're not comfortable with the naked body, then this place is not for you. The lake is very beautiful and scenic. $15 to enter. No nudity in the parking lot. Under 18 is not allowed. Mature folks only. Swim at your own risk. No lifeguards on duty. Hippie hollow is one of my "wild and free" pleasures in Austin, to forget about everything and enjoy nature. The first time I went, I was scared to death to be seen naked. But once you get past that initial uneasyness, and realize how amazing it is to enjoy the Texas sun without clothes soaking up sweat, while the breeze cools your skin from head to toe, going without clothes is not a big deal. Just play it cool and enjoy yourself. The best part is that Hippie Hollow is as private or as public as you would like. If you do want to make friends, walk around to the large outcropping (maybe a 1/3 mile walk once you get to the main trail) which apparently is where the socializers hang out. People I've met here have been nice and friendly, but my wife and I tend to keep to ourselves for a more meditative experience. There's no 'beach' per se, just lots of rocks, but because they're flat rocks, they make for good sunbathing. Trees also dot the cliffs, so you can retreat back into shade when you've had enough sun. An old yoga or exercise mat is the perfect cushion on the rocks, or snag a blanket or towel. Remember bug spray too, as ants can be rampant here. Pack yourself a picnic lunch and you're set for a relaxing time. Bring cash for the admission fee, and if you like the place, an annual pass is worth it if you come to the park 10 or more times per year. read more

An overlook of Lake Travis. Parking is $15 but we had already paid when we went to Hamilton Pool Preserve so we didn't have to pay this fee. During the winter, there was barely anyone there. First thing I saw was a sign that there would be nudist once you down the path. However, since it was the winter time, so there was literally no one there but us. Bathroom stations are by the balcony. Also a great view from the balcony for an even better view of the lake. There is a tree near the lake with a wind chime. It's really relaxing to sit and admire the lake as you listen to the wind chime. Hope to come back when it's warmer but I better prepare myself for the nudies. read more

I visited Hippie Hollow at the end of June, 2021. The water was a comfortable temperature. The water was also crystal clear. There is no sandy beach but the large rocks offer lots of flat areas to lay out in the sun. I went in the morning during a week day. There were very few people in the early morning hours. However, by mid morning people started to show up. There are some walking paths in the trees parallel to the lake. If I lived local to Austin I would frequently recreate at Hippie Hollow. It's a great place to be a nudist. The naked body is nothing to be ashamed of. Nudity is natural so go there enjoy the outdoors and don't worry about anyone else. Who cares what they see. Don't let other people rob you of the freedom of being nude in the great outdoors. read more

Maybe I was wrong in assuming this would be more beach-like, but it was a rocky, small cliff with limited access to the water. People set up camp (basically a towel, mat, or floatie to sit on) anywhere from on the path (so you actually have to walk over them to pass by) to the more open and flat rocky areas. In general, everyone was pretty nice/friendly, but there were definitely some stare-ers that made me feel a little uncomfortable. I guess it comes with the territory. Some places have easier access to the lake water than others. It's about a mile long stretch so you just kind of walk down the path until you find a spot that looks comfortable for you. Make sure to bring something soft or squishy to sit on, food/snacks and PLENTY of water, and music/pool toys to have fun! Happy I went but not in a hurry to go back :-P read more
