My child went to newport inpatient Chandler house and it was the worst experience. My child was…read morehaving issues soiling herself and I was told before she went that they would be able to help and that it would most likely happen within the first week she was there and they would tackle it. After I dropped her off, I expressed my concern that I thought it had happened again that day and I was told that they wouldn't be checking as they didn't want to embarrass her. The kids do their own laundry and the adults at the house only provide help with changing and washing sheets (my child doesn't soil herself through multiple layers of clothing), so right away up front I was extremly disappointed, like I had been punched in the gut. They can't help her if they aren't addressing the issues. Nothing was resolved, and the stress of getting insurance authorizations every week, added to the stress of her being out of state for mental health. The plan was for her to be there 6 - 8 weeks and half way in, insurance denied any further stay, so I had to fly out urgently to go pick her up, or be charged $2000 a day if I couldn't get there within the time frame. My child didn't receive the letters or birthday cards sent by her grandparents or great grandma, there were 9 pieces of mail/cards returned to us, only after I questioned them about it after she got home and was missing a birthday card from my mom. We were promised we would only be charged $500, max, paid it, then a month later, got another $500 bill. I really got the impression they didn't care about helping my child, who lived a life of trauma and neglect before being placed in our home at 10 years old. I was desperate for her to get help after other failed attempts and this place took full advantage of us. Not to mention, they wouldn't give me her chart notes after she was discharged so I could have a better understanding of what she's dealing with. Arlene (the director) promised me she would call me and do a walk through of the facility with me, that never happened. They set us up to fly in before the facility my child was staying at was staffed, so I had to drop her off at a different facility she wasn't going to be sleeping at. She was by herself for the first few days. I wouldn't have agreed to that before getting my flight set up for a Saturday. After the flight was set up, I received a call asking if I wanted to come at a later date, on Monday, but I couldn't cause I didn't have time to clear it through work on a Friday night. They stated they had equine therapy but that only involves looking/petting the horses, no riding, and there weren't any horses at the house my child was staying at. They didn't even offer the equine therapy for the first 2 - 3 weeks cause the lady was out on paternity leave. Another disappointment. The whole experience was awful and having to grab a flight last minute ($$$$) to fly to another state to pick up my child after insurance denied her ongoing stay urked me - that was not explained to us prior to her going. They said she would be there for 6 - 8 weeks, so that's what we were expecting. My child doesn't act out like other kids cause she internalizes everything and they didn't catch onto that - they didn't think she needed help, but they were who encouraged me to send her saying they could help. My child also reads the room well and responds accordingly pretty damn well. Says what she thinks people want to hear. I have high suspicion my child was sexually assaulted (i explained this to them) and they didn't even touch that subject - which has been the ongoing elephant in the room for us. At the end of her stay, while packing up, an employee told her that she couldn't pack her hygene products I sent with her (something about plane regulations - and her multiple bags were NOT carry on, they had to be checked). Newport required all NEW products be sent and specific ingredients weren't allowed, so I spent $130 on new shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, lotion, sunscreen, toothpaste and other listed items on the packing sheet, and nothing came home with her. Another huge waste of money. Newport failed us on every level. Please don't send your kid there, if i could give zero stars for this review I would. Don't believe the hype in your desperate need for help, cause they don't offer any solutions there, just more added stress.

SHIFT HAPPENS!!!!!…read more I don't mean to be dramatic, but Newport saved my life. When I was admitted, I was on a path that would have ended my life before it had even truly begun. Newport changed that. They tailor treatment to specifically target the areas that need improvement for each client. All of the staff are wonderful people, and I felt that they really cared about me as an individual. There is a good variety of groups, including yoga, adventure therapy, and several forms of expression groups (art, music, crafts, etc.) as well as individual and family therapy. They have clinicians on call nearly around the clock and the facilities are VERY nice. Newport feels more like a home than a treatment facility. Newport will always come highly recommended by me!!

Stays range from 30-60 days to up to 3 months, depending on the care plan and insurance. Newport also offers financial assistance and works with families to create affordable plans. From my experience and research, a 90-day stay is ideal to fully benefit from the residential programs. The program is robust, holistic, and Newport invests significantly in state-of-the-art care. Programming includes one personal session, one family therapy session per week, and a session with a counselor focused on coping skills and in-program issues. An additional personal session is optional if not pursuing family sessions. Clinical sessions are enhanced with evidence-based practices like equine therapy, adventure therapy, yoga, somatic yoga, CrossFit, and other location-specific activities. Weekly processing sessions, psychoeducation, and DBT groups build healthy coping skills. Cooking and baking groups helped me gain confidence in the kitchen and manage conflict, showcasing the holistic experience. The program works for those ready to commit to its structure and rigor. It's challenging but rewarding. Even for those not fully committed, Newport offers support until clients can love themselves. As with any mental health program, there can be frustrations. I believe Newport's biggest growth opportunity is improving communication, especially between day and night staff, and proactive issue-solving. While gaps in staffing occurred, my safety and care were never compromised. Experiences vary based on therapist assignments. Advocate for yourself to find the right therapeutic fit. Newport encourages respectful, solution-based communication, and I saw clients successfully change therapists for better fits. As a trans client, I initially faced insensitivity during admissions, but supportive staff addressed this. More LGBTQIA+ informed care training is needed. Similarly, clients with autism or OCD often faced communication challenges with staff. I was placed in the female young adult program and, after advocating for myself, was allowed a roommate. Newport showed growth in treating LGBTQIA+ clients over my stay, affirming that while work remains, they are improving. Newport's alumni program offers consistent support and resources for transitioning to PHP, IOP, or other outpatient care. Building a safe mental health community of lifelong friends was a highlight. Equine therapy and well-invested client experiences and outings helped me discover new hobbies. As someone with extensive experience in psych hospitals, residential, and PHP programs, I believe Newport provides exceptional care. Peers in therapy groups often recommend Newport, highlighting its strong reputation. The young adult program is particularly commendable, and I hope to see it expand to include older adults. Newport's method works, and I recommend it to clients seeking care and program directors aiming to refine their programs.

Newport, overall, was generally a negative experience for my child. There are some good aspects to it in the house in Camarillo, like the family therapist, John. He was a great professional and seemed to be very good at being calm, caring, and insightful. He was even good at dealing with our teen girl during her manic moods and ups and downs. Pretty much everyone outside of him has been a disaster. My child's personal therapist, allegedly called my child 'psychotic' and 'narcissitic' to her face in the middle of a therapy session. Her therapist also spoke to us, the parents on the call and let us know that our child is not "hopeless, yet". Not hopeless? Really? Wow, what encouragement. Her psychiatrist, after having talked to my child for 2 minutes already diagnosed her as crazy and proceeded to record their conversations (and ours) without any consent. She then went on a long tangent about how she loves dogs and can't imagine that our child may be endangering the dog we own. Newport's motto is "unconditional" love. They claim they will love your child until they can love themselves...however, they held my child for 50 days offering minimal psychiatric support then kicked her out after giving us 2 days notice because she was not 'participating' in group activities and allegedly became romantic with another patient (not true). They didn't even let her know she was leaving on the day of (which they promised they would do) so my child was terrified and shocked when we showed up. My child is autistic, and was diagnosed with bipolar. Is she easy to deal with? No. Is she rude and disrespectful at times? Yes. But isn't that what Newport claims that they can deal with? Bipolar, borderline, and other teens who've experienced trauama -- that's what they claim to treat. Well, it seems to be that they only treat those teens if they are easy to deal with. And if you've ever met troubled teens that are "easy" to deal with, why would we need a residential facility to begin with?
