This is a great historical site. The Daniel Boone Home is authentic and original to the site. The historic village is not original to the site but includes a number of historic buildings that have been preserved and relocated here. We took the guided tour ($8 for seniors) and had a phenomenal tour guide. He was a recent graduate with a degree in history. His tour was very informative and he tried hard to dispel some of the myths surrounding Daniel Boone and some misconceptions based on the Festus Parker protrayal of Daniel Boon on TV. He was great. After the guided tour of the house, we did a self guided tour of the historic village. This was well worth the visit. read more

This post is mostly a complaint about Nancy. Place is beautiful, beautiful wedding, MOSTLY helpful staff. However, we went to a wedding rehearsal after they told us over the phone we could, as long as it was between 3-5 people. When we showed up Nancy threw a total fit and would only allow one person inside the church at a time. We asked her if this is really how she wants to be remembered, as this was the first wedding, she didn't seem to care. Maybe this place should offer therapists, seems some of the work force is struggling at home... read more

Arrived early Easter and had the entire place to myself. The peace and quiet was perfect. A beautiful place full of history with wonderful and well informed staff. Definitely a park to visit while in the St. Louis area. Will definitely back with friends and family. read more

This review is for the December nighttime candlelight walk, though my site notes cover any visit. Since the county parks department took over this historic village a few years ago, the program has been completely revamped. For the better, I've been told. For the candlelight program Daniel Boone and his wife, as characters, greet visitors and share a bit about their frontier life. Other period characters explain holiday customs, tell stories, or recite whole passages from memory of Dickens' A Christmas Carol or Moore's Nicholas (as 'Twas the Night Before Christmas was originally called). At points in the village visitors become part of the program, such as mummers (traveling beggars) at one house. The entire circular stroll starts and ends in the same spot. It takes about 2-1/2 hours to complete, though the time flies by. Visitor notes: This is not an ADA experience. It would be challenging even with a stroller. The interest level and time commitment might be more appropriate for older teens, young and middle age adults, and healthy seniors. Very much of the tour is outside as you move from building to building. Walkways are uneven rock paths, soft mulch, or wood stairs of varying heights. For the nighttime experience paths and buildings are lit by candlelight and can be somewhat dark. Floors are rock, wood, or dirt. The route would be difficult to travel other than by foot. Also, though cider and cookies are complementary, they're at the entrance/exit. You may want to pack snacks for yourself or little ones because no food is available on the route or allowed in buildings. However, go--if you can--and enjoy a truly unique holiday event. read more

If only all historic registered places were taken care of and managed like this one! What an absolute national treasure. The tours are well worth the price and the interpretive guide was super knowledgeable. She must have spent the better part of an hour telling us the history and answering all of our questions and there were plenty. Don't worry tho' if you have little'uns they have a 'Cliff note' version so young minds can absorb without growing bored. The house is fantastic but it's not only about the house. The other historic homes and buildings from the area, that are now 'on site' have been lovingly restored or moved to the setting, either as a whole or in parts and rebuilt like a giant jig saw. Great place well worth visiting and Sept 26th is the 200 Ann. Of DBs death so they will have all sorts of fun activities for all ages. read more

I DJ'd a wedding here. Beautiful park/venue with lots of history. The staff is incredibly strict about time though, if you're going to have a wedding here. They want you to be out 30 minutes to an hour before the scheduled time there. read more

I think you have to take this review tongue in cheek because we went on a day that was cool and drizzling rain. Not the best of times to go. I'm not sure why they call this the Daniel Boone Home. His son was the one who lived here and Daniel spent the last years of his life here. We were also told that he would build a small home next to his children's homes in order to visit with them. Daniel and his wife had fourteen children and most of them settled in this area. It's a very confusing story. You can go through this house on your own with a printed self guided tour or you can go with a tour guide. There is also a small village behind the home that you can explore although because of the weather that day, we did not. There of course is a gift shop. I'm sure that are a lot more things to do in the summer but you will have to check it out on your own. Would I come back here? No, once is enough. And that's the way it is. read more

So I will admit this right off the bat that I am a huge history nerd. That said I was excited to go and see Daniel Boone's home. It was in fact, yes fact, really neat. There was actually a lot to be learned there that would appeal to those who are not so much of a history buff. Going to Daniel Boone's home gave you an insight into the life of one of America's most beloved people in our history. Seeing where and how he lived does so much more than the pages of a history book, not that history books do not do anything or anything like that, but seeing how he lived and where he finally settled is really interesting. You can see the home by a guided tour in which the people leading you through actually know what they are talking about and are not spouting off a list of words that the they memorized from note cards. One of the areas on the tour that I enjoyed was the kitchen. There I learned there silverware and dishes were made so that if needed, they could have used as ammunition if things got a little hairy at the Daniel Boone homestead. read more

A little mis leading. This was actually Daniel Boone's sons home. Daniel actually lived in this home the last 7 years of his life. Getting over that!!! We got the combination tour, Boone house & village. I'm a veteran so I got in free. What a deal. Had to pay for the wife. Both tours were excellent. Both guides were very knowledgable and very courteous. No pictures inside the Boone house but ok to take pics everywhere else. If your in the area this is well worth the trip here. We drove 1 1/2 hrs from Owensville. Beautiful countryside. read more

We visited the Historic Daniel Boone Home on a whim, and were glad we did! It was quite a drive to get out to the place, and we almost got lost a time or two, but it was well worth the effort. While the museum's main feature is the home that Daniel Boone lived in at the end of his life, it also has many other historic buildings to tour. You can do a self-guided tour, or (and this is the one I recommend) you have the option of taking a guided tour. The guided tour actually takes you through most of the buildings and they are not afraid to allow you to touch many of the items. In fact, they host youth camps there and actually use many of the historic tools in the way they were intended to be used! This is a living, breathing, working museum!!! Daniel Boone's home is a separate tour and is very interesting. The tour guides definitely know their stuff! I was impressed by all the questions they answered. And seeing the home and other buildings truly brought history to life. If you are in the Missouri, do not miss visiting this place! read more

I've lived in St Charles county my whole life but never visited this place until today. I was pleasantly surprised that it was more than just one building, it's a whole village to explore! You can do a self-guided tour for free or pay $8 for the guided tour. We really enjoyed walking around the village and the free tour pamphlet helped us learn about each building. The cute little chapel is available for weddings! If you love history this is definitely somewhere you need to visit! It's so beautiful my daughter will be taking her senior pictures there! read more

Fantastic experience which I would recommend to anyone traveling in the area. The tour guide, William, was stellar. He was amazingly knowledgable about so much of the life and times of Daniel Boone, the history of the area, and the expansion of the frontier. I'm not normally a big fan of organized tours, but I have to say that this was far better than I could have imagined. I feel like I was taking a college-level history course. It is well worth your time to visit this historical attraction and take the tour. read more

The 1800s village and Boone family home were very interesting & worth a trip to see. The guide was very well informed and pleasant. However, I'm giving the whole experience 3 stars due to poor organization/customer service at the gift shop & ticket area, the unnecessarily complex fee structure, and the extremely annoying way the ticket sellers kept repeating: "that's not included in the ticket price" and "I don't know how to do that." The house tour ticket should include the self tour of the 1800s village (you can't get inside them anyway). I waited over 15 min to buy a book & CD at the end of my tour. There were only 6 other people in the shop, a group of 4 trying to buy tickets and a group of 2 trying to buy T-shirts. There were 2 clerks, yet these transactions were still in process when I finally walked out. read more
