We took the guided tour ($8 for seniors) and had a phenomenal tour guide. He was a recent graduate with a degree in history. His tour was very informative and he tried hard to dispel some of the myths surrounding Daniel Boone and some misconceptions based on the Festus Parker protrayal of Daniel Boon on TV. He was great. After the guided tour of the house, we did a self guided tour of the historic village. This was well worth the visit.

However, we went to a wedding rehearsal after they told us over the phone we could, as long as it was between 3-5 people. When we showed up Nancy threw a total fit and would only allow one person inside the church at a time. We asked her if this is really how she wants to be remembered, as this was the first wedding, she didn't seem to care. Maybe this place should offer therapists, seems some of the work force is struggling at home...

Kid and teenager me would have loved it... the sarcastic 10 year old wanted board games to improve her experience. After considering- I agreed. I would add some chess and checker boards and a few other board games. Or a few Atari games... The epitome was the McDonald's $1 double cheeseburger sign. I asked to order it: they didn't have cheeseburgers, all things are more expensive and everything is not as healthy. I am not wishing for cocaine Coca-Cola or other "medicine" in Dr Pepper. $1.50 for a can of soda is a big jump for a corn syrup from the nickel advertising of a sugar sweet memory. The epitome of the place was playing shuffleboard with the 10 year old. I was trying to play with a sense of touch. She was playing with the idea of creating a highlight reel of knocking my pieces off. I beat her because the idea of the game escaped her. To look back at Asteroids was a shock. Realized that it was just black and white, 2 dimensional game with only a few buttons to control it. Overall I walked still a fan of the glossed over experience. I remember being a broke kid wanting to play unrealistic games to escape from reality. Now I wish for the sugar rush I used to have.

The staff was very nice - pleasant and friendly. The museum has rotating exhibits. When we visited, the current exhibit focused on the Revolutionary War in the west. I finally took the time to tour this historic Missouri house. This is the only historic-registered…read morehouse in MO that has a doctor's office inside, which makes it very unique. It is also one of the most haunted places in St. Louis County, as orbs have been spotted in windows at night (!). The Payne-Gentry House has been around since 1870, and I would suggest doing some research on the Payne and Gentry families before doing the tour. Yes, there was a doctor in the family, and he put his practice in the basement, which was added on in later years. There, you can check out his books, his tools and what was considered to be medical standards during a time period from over a century ago! A lot of the family's possessions have been kept for a long time, and you will likely see them in the house. Tours of the house are given each first Sunday of the month, and I would call for hours, just to double-check. (You will likely get the City of Bridgeton, but they will tell you if and when they are available.) Next year (2020), the Bridgeton history group will be celebrating the P-G House's 150th anniversary, and they plan on making a huge event out of it. I can't wait.

Albert Stix is the owner of this experience which has a massive amount of airplanes, all focused on pre-WW2. I think the first hanger had some 40 of them to start with. Albert has been hands on with these planes for a long time and has some amazing stories from each of these, how they got there, and their various components. He is also quite a talker, but I found that our 8 year old grandson took in so much information, and had his own number of questions that were all answered with an intent to keep curiosity engaged. It's a quirky place, and is packed with memorabilia, but if you're into learning and gawking and fascinating a youth with airplane history and discussions, it'll be a blast!
