Made my debut at Glendale Glitters and the lights were quite nice, especially the palm tree and the tree that actually glitters.

This year Glendale hosted the event inside of their Civic Center. It was a massive conference room…read morewith a patio and outdoor area at both ends. On the West patio, live music, and on the East patio, wine tasting. Inside were all of the chocolate and sweet vendors. Our favorites we purchased from were the Coconut Lime Fudge from Timoteo's Spice Co (from Surprise, AZ), and Earl Grey Blueberry Jam & Fig-Pomegranate Spread Jam from Periodyc Baker (from Peoria, AZ). Another great vendor was a Costa Rican couple who run a coffee shop (Cortez Coffee Roasters in Tempe, AZ) and a chocolate company (Midge Chocolate Co). They had real cocoa pods which were massive that you could touch, and you could try samples of their chocolate and of their coffee. I plan on visiting their coffee shop very soon, their chocolate was also the best at the event! Admission is free. Take your time browsing all of the vendors, then when you find some goodies, take a seat outside to enjoy them with the live music. Also, bring cash! For parking, there is a free parking garage nearby and street parking too.

I appreciate that parking was free and so was general admission. No one likes paying for parking…read more Not sure why this is advertised as a Chocolate Affair though, it's actually just a farmers market. Food trucks and vendors outside of the civic center and then vendors inside. It's not just chocolate vendors inside which would make sense so the chocolate doesn't melt, it's solar, window treatments, realtors, etc. There are WAY TOO MANY vendors in that tiny room. There is absolutely no room to walk around comfortably and actually look at what anyone was offering. And of course there are strollers, wheelchairs and wagons to navigate through. People stop at a vendor table and then hold up the whole line of people trying to walk down the aisles. Please work on your logistics. This was not a fun event to attend, we didn't even stay for 30 minutes. Don't advertise this as a Chocolate Affair. It is anything but.

Parking was also an extra cost, but I think if you bought your parking online it was a little bit cheaper. There was a Fear Farm merch tent and a few other tents selling food and drinks. Since we came on Wednesday, I'd say the lines weren't as bad as it may have been on the weekend. However, there were definitely a lot of missed opportunities for jump scares. While everyone in our group did get scared at least once, I thought it would be more scarier. Some of the themes were better than others. I don't think I would come back to this one. There are other haunted places to check out in the valley. I will say that the music they had playing throughout the park that evening was awesome. Not sure if it's always the same, but it was hits from the 90's!

There are 4 different themed haunted houses that are included in the general admission ticket and all the activities (corn maze, zombie shooting, etc.) are additional costs. Parking is also an additional cost which is always annoying. Overall, the haunted houses were fun but I think they could've been improved with more scare actors. The carnival themed one was my favorite but it was too short. The blood shed one was too long and barely had any decorations, it was basically just a maze. We were there for over 2 hours since there's a bit of a line to wait for each house so people are spread out.

The tour guide Joseph was so kind and full of energy. The video you watch when you get there is a very heart felt explanation of the passion to continue this community. They own 800 acres and the property is built on 20 acres, it was built between 1971-1975 for the main spaces that are shared. 45 people live there but could range to 80. They show how the products and structure are made. I had no clue about silk casts and loved the hands on understanding and history. They have concerts, events, gatherings. Etc at the amphitheater. Check out the website. The cafe is closed. You can stay as a hotel guest overnight. They offer apprenticeship also.

Clearly what the original architect had in mind many years ago never came to fruition as it really hasn't changed in years. Is appears to be a small artist community but we didn't see anything going on at the moment so couldn't tell if it id still active or they make everything south in Scottsdale at Cosanti. There is a gift shop where you can watch a brief video on the history and learn about their wind chime creations. Personally I've received many of the wind chimes over the last 20 years for housewarmings or Christmas gifts. Each is unique. The greeter in the gift shop was friendly and stated there is a tour available as well. We didn't have time for the tour but purchased a couple of small gifts. He suggested visiting the Scottsdale location as well which is called Cosanti. I had no idea it was located in Scott's well. Will check it out.

summer2013 I am COMPLETELY DISSATISFIED with the service…read moreand attitude of Kerry Blackburn of the Discovery Group. He was the travel director for our European Tour to Spain and France, and the person in charge of 'Dance Mania'. We as parents/guardians of a dance troupe took our girls (ages 11-18) on this tour to dance at the festival and experience Europe. I know it's LONG, but PLEASE READ and BEWARE before booking a trip with this tour agency!! The BAD: 1. First, and foremost, "Dance Mania" was not a part of a festival. There was no festival; nothing like we are used to in the USA with music, food, games, etc. There was only a stage and one other dance group (which performed hours later). There was a very small crowd, no banners, no announcements, no flyers, no food, etc. a. Not what we expected from a trip that was planned almost 2 years in advance. b. A tent and water was provided for the girls (BY the sound crew!) not Kerry. c. The second show was cancelled, due to rain - but Kerry did not have a backup plan. He was also very confrontational and had plenty of excuses and NOT one solution. 2. Kerry was very disrespectful - one instance he called one of the parent/guardians "STUPID". When confronted, he said that she wasn't stupid it was her mentality. (He was very abrasive and arrogant). 3. Despite what was advertised, admission to only one attraction was included in the tour price, all remainder of tourist attractions, activities, etc. were left for us to pay at the door. a. More IMPORTANTLY, NO reservations were made for ANY tours! (no churches, Louvre, Eiffel tower, etc) 4. Again, despite being told, some meals would be included, not one breakfast, lunch, or dinner was included in the tour package. Except those provided by the hotel, however, I consider those amenities part of the hotel service. a. We did not have one meal with the entire group - a dinner theater would have been wonderful - especially one that focused on dance, like flamenco (and this was available if we had reservations). 5. He had no knowledge of the area we toured. Did not appear to have done ANY research. 6. He left us on our own several times, most of the time we had no idea where to go or how to get there. Basically, a bus would drop us off and pick us up at a certain location (not always where we were dropped off). 7. When asked about closing times of the attractions, he did not have an answer, no assistance offered. Instead, he was very condescending and basically said we were on our own. 8. No maps of the area were provided. (We could have definitely used a walking map, which includes side streets and major attractions). 9. Although we discussed the Louvre (major attraction) being closed on Tuesdays (via internet website), he still took the group on Tuesday - to find it WAS CLOSED. We wasted that entire day on tourist attractions that were closed! (Not only the Louvre!) 10. We stayed in a city that was inappropriate for our travelling group (which included young girls and their parents/guardians). This city contained many intoxicated men (very drunk, some girls witnessed a man passed out in the streets surrounded by police while they were merely purchasing gelato), casinos, partying throughout the night, discos, etc. 11. Thanks to his planning, we arrived at the airport at 8:45am. Our plane leaves at 10:35am! And we are flying international!! Worse - bus pulls to the wrong entrance AND floor. Fortunately, security at the airport allowed us to pass through the crowd, since we only had 10 minutes to get through 'border police/passport check' and security lines. We had finally made it to our gate at 9:55am, fortunately our flight was delayed (which I am sure was due to our tardiness) and we boarded our plane at 10am instead of the original 9:50am scheduled time. The good: 1. We all learn from our mistakes - and booking with Kerry is one mistake I will never do twice! 2. Disneyland Paris was wonderful; however much or all of the credit goes to the Disney staff and coordinators. 3. Waterpark was great; however this was not on his itinerary, nor did he know there was a waterpark. (This would have been so much more age appropriate for the girls - at least as an option). 4. WE made the best out of our trip despite all the road blocks and hurdles. 5. Hopefully, others can learn from our mistake and DO NOT BOOK a TRIP/TOUR with KERRY BLACKBURN.

Our flight seats had our families separated, the hotel had no air conditioning (he said it would), we were squished in two man rooms with three people and literally nowhere to place suitcases or move around. When we called him and asked for help getting our family (which included a ten year old) placed together on the flight he was unwilling to help. When we took care of it while in Paris and incurred a $50+ phone bill from the hotel, he was uninterested in reimbursing us. He was so rude that he referred us to his attorney for further contact stating that he does not cover hotel phone bills. This was not a hotel phone bill where we voluntarily called a restaurant, etc. this was a phone bill caused as a direct result of Kerry not taking care of what he had been paid by our group to do. His customer service was terrible and rude and he can't be counted on to take care of any of the problems which result during your trip.
