What an elegant afternoon tea experience! If you've never been to Rosemont and you love afternoon tea, add this place to your list. It's a beautiful drive out into the VA countryside. The tea comes with an optional lecture where you'll learn a little bit about the history of the manor and the property. You can also tour the grounds and the rooms of the manor after your tea session. We went there for a birthday celebration and it was a perfect opportunity to get dressed up to fit in with the surroundings. I'll definitely go back!

Being an amateur historian and, off-and-on, a 20+ year resident of Virginia, I only heard of Rosemont Manor in Berryville about a year ago. When my son and his bride were looking for a venue for their wedding, a couple of visits cemented Rosemont as our choice. Our experience with a relatively small family wedding over President's (Washington's) Birthday weekend (30 people) met or exceeded our high expectations. Weddings are expensive, but we were delighted at the terrific value of our first-class experience, from our first meetings with owner William "Biff" Genda, the fabulous and delightful staff, the quality of accommodations, and the remarkable history as the home of former Governor and US Senator Harry F. Byrd Sr. (D-VA). It was also the site of an 1864 Civil War battle. It is everything you want for a memorable and classy wedding experience with friends and family. We could hold a first-class, inclusive wedding weekend for about $200 per person (not including accommodations, which are also reasonable) at a fantastic 211-year-old venue. Once you discover who Byrd hosted over his 30+ years at Rosemont, you'll wish their walls could talk. Several US Presidents. John Wayne. Charles Lindbergh. Winston Churchill. I could not help imagining them walking down the stairs to breakfast, or sitting on the ample east front porch, holding court on issues of the day. Byrd's history may "trigger" some people. Still, it is what it is - he represents an era of Virginia and southern history, both good and bad by today's standards. Genda doesn't try to hide or erase anything, even naming guest cottages after Generals Phillip Sheridan and Jubal Early, the commanding officers of the opposing armies that fought on the grounds on September 3-4, 1864 (result was inconclusive). Former President Richard Nixon, who briefly resided here during the depths of the Watergate scandal, has a room named after him. Much of the multi-acre estate used to be home to an apple orchard. Byrd was a leading apple grower and spurred much apple industry development in the region, even launching nearby Winchester's famous "Apple Blossom Festival" every Spring. Genda and team offer "elopement" or small weddings in the Manor house or outdoors on its stately east front porch and lawn, close to where presidential helicopters once landed. Dinners, dancing, and after-event fire pits are available at two other buildings within an easy walk of the manor house. Weddings of all sizes can be hosted here. Genda has done a superb job building a top-notch B&B and wedding venue. The morning breakfast was as good or better than anything at a Ritz-Carlton or another 5-star venue. Everyone on Genda's team was pleasant, highly professional, and a joy to work with. The manor house is both comfortable and classy, with its history well preserved, down to the eagle-claw bathtubs (rooms feature either tubs or showers, but not both). Eyeball the Camden, New Jersey-made RCA Victrola on the upstairs landing. The beds and furnishings are comfortable and classic. Your blood pressure will drop as you embrace the stately southern charm that embodies a bygone era. We were thrilled to learn that couples who marry at Rosemont are invited to stay for their anniversaries at little to no cost. What a treat. Berryville is a charming, small Clark County town in the northern Shenandoah Valley, surrounded by excellent wineries (Veramar, Bogati, Twin Oaks, etc.) and breweries (Bear Claw). The Appalachian Trail runs along the eastern ridge of the Valley less than 5 miles away, featuring parking lots, campsites, and an overlook not far from Route 7 (Harry F. Byrd highway, of course). There may be opportunities to arrange canoe trips down the historic Shenandoah River (either north towards historic Harper's Ferry, WV, or south towards Staunton, VA). The historic town of Winchester is just a few miles west. My only recommendation to Mr. Genda is to repackage their prices to make them "all-inclusive," perhaps at three levels (budget, premium, and "first-class") that include tips. It took a lot of work to keep up with the costs of many line items for our event. Whether you stay or not, stop and visit when in the area.

    1st course: tea sandwiches

This was my first time at the Rosemont Manor for their infamous teas. We had a not-so-great experience at another tea place during the fall, so we wanted to come experience a legitimate tea - and Rosemont truly delivered! We were all given a complimentary glass of hot cider upon arrival, which was really nice in the cold weather. We were given a brief history of the manor from the owner himself, which was very personable and nice to hear! He also gave us a tour of the manor itself. Then, we went to our tables for the tea. We were in the sunroom with the most adorable (and extensive) nutcracker decorations we've ever seen! We were taking notes so that we can recreate this at our home for next year's holidays :) The table was beautifully decorated with the napkin in the shape of a bow! We LOVED the vintage asparagus tongs that we used to pick up all of the food. The first course were tea sandwiches - cucumber sandwiches were delicious (even moreso because they were in the shape of Christmas trees?); turkey/ cranberry sandwiches were great and we absolutely devoured the fig & brie bites. The second course were scones; we loved the cheese & bacon scones as much as the cream ones, both went so well with the devonshire cream and jam. The last course was dessert - peppermint snowball cookies were great, caramel chocolate tarts were sweet but our favorite was the cranberry mousse! Delicious! Everything was so yummy and so thoughtfully presented. It was the best Christmas tea I've been to. Highly recommend!

Be prepared to have your senses ignited and your mind enlightened! The roads leading to Rosemont are gorgeous but once you enter the wrought iron gates of this majestic Georgian style manor, it will take your breath away! You'll feel like you're visiting Tara from Gone with the Wind! Built in 1811, this stately white mansion stands prominent as the main character of this estate, yet the supporting cast is award winning also! Whether you chose to stay at the main house, with several elegant suites and guest rooms, or in one of the many other smaller lodgings on the property, you will be drenched in history. The stone walls that surround the estate are laced with rose bushes, plants, and flowers and the lanes intertwined throughout the estate are lined with beautiful trees and greenery! A rolling landscape, with several buildings positioned through the meandering driveways are all worth a gander. A gazebo flanked with pampas grass, a gorgeous whimsical fountain, lovely manicured grounds, outdoor sitting areas with pockets of gardens, all sure to stimulate your senses! The owner was most gracious and accommodating, even meeting us later than we expected to arrive. We stayed at one of the two story Civil War Officers guest houses, #25 and it proved to be satisfactory quarters. The house had several bedrooms to accommodate many other guests, but we had the place to ourselves. Although this house was built centuries ago, it's been updated with a full kitchen, living room, laundry room, and the most intriguing book nook under the stairs! Much of the architectural history can be seen in the steep, narrow stairwell, low doorways, and wooden floors, the mud room and the outside porch. Upstairs we each had our own room. Now, the beds weren't the most comfortable we've slept on, but this isn't a modern "hotel"... it's a rustic but cozy dwelling. The water pressure wasn't strong, and we wished for more towels and toiletries (there was no shampoo or soaps - but we brought some of our own) and we didn't see a hair dryer. The amenities were scanty, but they did have a iron and ironing board. We didn't mind that there was no tv, as it was so relaxing to be unplugged and enjoy the peaceful setting. (In the morning, when we mentioned that there we no toiletries or dryer in the bathroom, the manager apologized and informed us that this was an oversight and that they usually are fully stocked... no worries, it happens!) That little hiccup did not in any way detract from our pleasant stay! The manager then led me through the expansive foyer of the main house where she showed us the richly appointed suites, the tea room (which we vowed to make reservations next time!), the familiar staircase where you could picture Scarlett O'Hara perched on the landing, the library and other graciously appointed rooms. Southern charm at its best! We then toured the park-like grounds, visited the carriage house, absorbed the beauty of this awesome estate where many special events and weddings are held, and fully expected to see Rhett Butler gazing from the balcony overlooking the mountains! If you can't make it out to this incredible historic estate today, don't fret... after all, tomorrow is another day!

Main entry hall for the Christmas Tea - beautiful decorations everywhere!

I have been to the Manor House Tea at Rosemont Manor twice. Once for a regular weekend afternoon tea (in winter) and once for their special Christmas Tea. Both times were absolutely lovely! I highly recommend tea here. The Manor House has been carefully restored and preserved by the family that owns it. Part of the tea includes a guided tour (of the main level) and a discourse on the history of the house (it has quite a history). I found this to be fascinating. For the Christmas Tea, the house was exquisitely decorated. It could have been and should be featured in Victoria Magazine and Southern Living it was that elegant, elaborate, and beautiful. For my second visit (the Christmas Tea) we started our tea in the carriage house with hot cider and a video. The carriage house was so beautiful it took our breath away and made my entire group want to get married again - there. Both times, it was a three-course tea (some of the teas change seasonally) and the menu was seasonal as well. The teas and food were delicious each time! I bought some tea for home on each visit. I particularly loved their Lemon Souffle Tea. I went to the Christmas Tea for my Book Club's December Book Exchange. They accommodated our party of 9 so wonderfully. They seated us at a large round table in a private room. One of our members is gluten-free and I was impressed with how they handled and accommodated her needs. She said her food was fabulous as well. We were not rushed at all during our tea and our cups were continually refilled. Both times were delightful teas. After the teas, we were encouraged to go upstairs to see and explore the bedrooms on our own. The bedrooms were named after people who have been to/stayed in the manor. The presidential suites were very nice and I intend to go back and stay in one for my anniversary this year. I also plan to go back in the spring to see the lovely grounds in full bloom. Both of my visits have been in winter and I would love to see what it looks like in Spring/Summer. Overall, I can't say enough good things about their Manor House Teas. They really are wonderful and if you are on the fence about going - reserve your spot now.

    Afternoon tea at Rosemont Manor

We made reservations for the afternoon tea to celebrate Mother's Day. The room where we had the tea was beautifully decorated and the server was very nice. However, it was disappointing because we were given very little to eat. Everything was tiny. The scones were very small and came with cream and jam but I was expecting real English Clotted cream/Devonshire cream. While it was nice being served, I expected the tea pot to be left at our table. We were given as much tea as we wanted because I guess that made up for the little bit of food. I've been to many afternoon teas over the years and this was over priced. I have a 3 star because the grounds were beautiful to stroll around.

I stayed at the Rosemont with a Living Social deal of $250 for 2 nights. You had to pay $50 to upgrade to a Friday-sat night stay, I did. The first date I booked was cancelled by the Rosemont and I had to reschedule- they reimbursed my $50 bucks that I paid for booking on a weekend which was nice. However when I called the woman was less than friendly about me trying to find a weekend- suggesting they had LOTS of availability during the week. Which is great- but I paid for a weekend. :) When we arrived we were given an upgrade for the confusion- which was great thank you! I really wanted to be so in love with everything about this place- and the building itself and the property is breathtaking. The cook and the breakfast was pretty good- and they did accommodate our food allergies. I had a couple major problems with my stay, basically as a paying guest I felt like I was in the way of the other events happening that weekend. There was a TEA on Saturday, which was very loud and disruptive of my stay - my boyfriend and I went out to the Farmers market and came back and couldn't find any parking remotely near the house- like we had to park in the grass....ummm I'm sorry but if I'm paying $250 or $500 if I'm a normal paying guest....I should have reserved parking so that this doesn't happen. My second issue with the TEA was that as we were reading in the room- a tour group was going and it was like I felt I was an animal in cage on display...not to mention the fact that the tour guide proceeded to BARGE INTO OUR ROOM!!!! Thank god we weren't doing anything inappropriate- and didn't apologize just closed the door. Then after that I felt like every time someone approached the door we were going to be barged in on and it was VERY unnerving. This tea was MANY hours- probably 5-6 and we couldn't even get a seat on the back porch to read because people were in the chairs. ALL that being said- I felt like the TEA was more important than me as a guest- which isn't the point of B&B...This was NOT relaxing...they have quiet hours at night...well there needs to be quiet hours during the day!! The Sunday morning- apparently there was a wedding which at 9 am we had tons of people outside our window for a rehearsal making noises and such. I felt so uncomfortable- like again I was completely in the way and unwanted. Never did we receive a tour, or an offer of a tour of the property. I mean look- the room was clean, the building is very pretty. I would come here only for a TEA or if you're having a wedding because I think those people get the best service... Do not pay full price, it's not worth it, especially in this area there are plenty of options.

A friend and I enjoyed an afternoon Sunday tea at Historic Rosemont Manor. The property is absolutely gorgeous, very well kept, and has stunning greenery and blooms. The tea was in a cozy dining room, which was very bright, with lots of nice windows. The service was good, but a little slow and drawn out for my taste. They provide three courses with three different teas, which was was a nice touch. At previous teas I've attended, you're typically limited to one selection. All of the teas were outstanding, especially the lemon soufflé! Though I was surprised that we were not provided with lemon and honey to accompany our drinks. The food was good and presented nicely, but was very minimal. There were three savory selections (we got two small pieces of each), two different scones (1 each and again, quite small), and then three dessert bites. The first two courses were delicious and dessert was fairly lackluster. The mini cupcake was adorable, but tasted a little wet and underdone inside. Also the frosting was a bit warm, which was off putting. I had hoped for a more filling lunch, given the steep price of attendance. I must give rave reviews for their attention to allergies! I have a handful of food allergies and they were very accommodating with them all, which made me very grateful. You can never be too careful, so it was refreshing that this was taken seriously. I was told the wrong timing at booking, so we arrived far too early for the tea. It was annoying to have to sit around for so long, but the porch was lovely and they had nice rocking chairs, where we could enjoy the view. I've been debating giving this a three or four star review. I was disappointed with the timing mishap, the itty bitty portions, and the steep costs. Overall because of the care and attention to my allergies, the quality of the tea & food, and the beautiful scenery, I am giving it a four. I'd come back for tea again if not for the price tag. My friend and I both felt that although it was a nice afternoon, we did not receive the value that was paid. It was fine for a one time deal, but wouldn't be worth the money to do again now that we know what you get.

Had my wedding here back in October. I can't say enough wonderful things about this venue! I know they host other weddings on an almost daily basis, but I felt like I was the only one. The level of attentiveness from Sabrina and Michael was so personal and I felt completely safe once we started communicating. My guests could not stop commenting on how beautiful the location was or how smoothly everything was run. I didn't have to worry about a thing besides my feet the day of. I highly recommend choosing this site as your venue! You will not be disappointed.

I visited here with a group of friends for an afternoon tea. The owner gave a lot of interesting facts about the property and a tour of the home. I was really impressed on his knowledge and obvious love of the property. I will be back, maybe for a stay in one of their historical rooms.

So I thought the tour that was included with my tea and tour livingsocial deal was really only about 10 minutes on the main floor, with the ability to wander around upstairs later. I realized that it was my fault and that I got the time wrong for the tea. I had always assumed that it started at 2pm, since that is what the website says. However, the tour before the tea starts at 1:30pm and they do send an email before the event saying that. Too bad I missed the tour ! Sounds like it would've been nice, but I should've paid more attention. The Manor is very nice looking - perhaps I will try to come back for a stay in wine country and get a better feel - the people that work there are very nice. The tea does not come with very much food FYI, but the chef is very willing to talk to you about anything they serve and refills on tea are a plenty.

Creative tea cup display in the tea room.

Manisha and Prashsant, owners of Stone Manor Inn, were personally involved in making sure all went smoothly with our cocktail and dinner party, and it most certainly did! SMI is a lovely old country inn on 14 acres, I believe, with a number of different venues (indoors and out) for meetings, parties, and weddings. The rooms (7 in total) were eclectic, in a good way. All four of their largest rooms that we occupied were spacious, with king beds and spa tubs with separate showers. All were well maintained and clean upon check-in. We had no complaints. I was on the fence to book this place given its hefty price tag, and glad I went for it and completely agree with the glowing 5 star reviews. The bubbly host Manisha is very warm and welcoming. She cordially gave us a 20 min tour around the property, which was built in 1908, and even gave me a bonus tour of the other rooms afterwards. She kindly answered all of our questions and didn't rush us. The Peacecock Room is the most spacious and best room (aside from the bridal suite), elaborately decorated in peacocks. We loved it! The little touches like the handmade soap, a set of wine glasses, and a wine opener made the stay so memorable and special. While the rooms aren't temperature controlled, the electric flameless fireplace kept the room warm. The double capacity jacuzzi was perfect for my hubby and I and even had lights (some of the other rooms have smaller jacuzzi, so be sure to check). The rooms were clean minus a couple of lady bugs and stink bugs (which is too be expected out in the country). Dr. Fauci's assistant stayed here and Manisha informed us of the extensive sanitation process, even the pillows and decorations are quarantined for 6 days! The backyard is well groomed and really spacious with a nice patio and heat lamp, which kept us warm sitting outside in the frigid winter. Our dog loved running around! You can see the stars and constellations really well. It would make a great wedding venue! The Christmas decorations around the property are really nice. The owners really go the extra mile and put a lot of TLC into the property. The 6 course breakfast is delicious and bursting with flavor. Between the veggie quiche, cheesy potatoes, scone, pancakes, yogurt, and fresh OJ, I was stuffed! The fresh butterscotch scone was divine and devoured my mine and my hubby's! The cheesy potato had a nice spicy kick. Everything was so fresh and delicious. All the courses come out at once on a large tray. While my hubby and I chose to sit at the communal table (the chairs are roughly 6 feet apart), you can take the tray up to your room. Manisha and her family greeted us and thoroughly explained the dishes and chatted with us for a bit, even her son made an appearance! The bed and breakfast has a nice bar with wine, cider, and alcohol based on an honor code system. Water and soda is complementary, they even had Coke 0! The complementary fudgy brownies by the breakfast area during the day were sweet and tasty. Again the little complimentary stuff gives this bed and breakfast a nice resort feel. Very relaxing stay and looking forward to coming back!

This B&B is located right in the heart of Harper's Ferry, giving walking access to stores, restaurants, and historic sights. Trains do come at all times of the night, so ear plugs are recommended (which would be needed anywhere in town!). Very much worth it!

Come for the railfanning, stay for the history…read more I first learned about Harpers Ferry, WV while sourcing stock footage for work. I came across the same clip in a rail safety ad, which made me look up directions to Harpers Ferry from DC. The historic park/town is served by the very MARC trains that pass outside my DC window each afternoon. You can describe Harpers Ferry as *deceptively* close because it's a 90 minute train ride, with planes flying into Dulles close enough to make out the airline. Looking for hotels there, Stonehouse Bed & Breakfast was the first that came up, with great reviews. Chris was very helpful and responsive via text and email. I booked the Top Room, which was $170 for a night including taxes. The quaint B&B has three accessible floors, as the family naturally lives onsite. The first floor is the main entrance with the common/dining areas, and the patio overlooking Maryland Heights and the Potomac/Shenandoah Rivers. The second floor has more rooms, one with a full balcony. And the third floor is the Top Room, with windows overlooking each side of the vintage building. If you Google pictures of Harpers Ferry, Stonehouse is in nearly all of the shots, since the balconies are front and center of the skyline. The town itself is like a real life snow globe. But the B&B, the litany of museums, eateries and shoppes around it, as well as the train station directly across the street make it an overall ideal place to stay, be it for hiking, or for something else: A love of trains is what brought me to Stonehouse, so take note that rail traffic can be heavy in certain times of the day. But the light rumbles also helped put me to sleep in the already soft, cozy bed. A container of water was provided, and while glasses should have been cleaned of dust first, it was still a really nice touch. The room also had playing cards, ear plugs, plenty books and a whole lounge chair. Checkin was a simple set of instructions at the door with my name on it, with checkout simply being your absence at the appropriate time. In my case, I only booked an overnight stay, getting in at 8pm and leaving around 6:30am, with checkout/checkin being the traditional 11am/4pm. While I didn't stay for complementary breakfast, I did catch a stellar sunrise between the mountains, as well as nature footage from the neighboring park. All of that to say, I definitely look to return to Stonehouse B&B later this year.

Celleste, the innkeeper and restaurateur, was exceptionally friendly and made the arrival process seamless. We chose to pay for early check-in, which was well worth it, especially because I had scheduled a massage. The massage therapist came directly to our room, making the experience convenient, relaxing, and a wonderful way to begin our stay. When we entered the room, we were greeted with a bottle of prosecco and chocolate-covered strawberries, which was a lovely touch and set a celebratory tone for the weekend. The room itself was charming, clean, and tastefully decorated, with a comfortable bed and an inviting atmosphere that made it easy to settle in and unwind. Before dinner, we enjoyed cocktails at the bar, which was an excellent start to the evening. The restaurant offers an impressive wine list along with a wide selection of spirits, making it easy to find or request nearly any cocktail. We spent some time reviewing the wine list and initially selected a red, but once seated for dinner, we appreciated the guidance of their wine expert, who helped us choose a white wine that paired beautifully with the meal. For dinner, we selected the Four Course menu because we liked the flexibility of choosing our own individual courses, and it turned out to be an excellent decision. The meal began with outstanding bread served with whipped butter, which was memorable on its own. Each course that followed was beautifully plated, served at the proper temperature, and paced perfectly. The attention to detail was evident throughout the meal, and the overall dining experience felt refined without being overly formal. The following morning, breakfast was another highlight. The frittata was excellent, and the croissant was flaky, buttery, and exactly what you would hope for at a French-inspired inn and restaurant. Service throughout our visit--from the bar to dinner and then breakfast--was consistently professional, attentive, and personable. Every member of the team contributed to a relaxed and memorable experience. Overall, L'Auberge Provencale Inn & Restaurant is a wonderful choice for a romantic weekend getaway. Between the comfortable accommodations, thoughtful amenities, excellent food, and genuinely warm service, it provided the kind of experience that feels both special and personal. We would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable escape.

It is very cute and charming inside and there were also live musicians when we went. We got the 4 course option and both loved the gnocchi. It was a great balance of the crunch from the salt and the softness of the gnocchi, For the next option, we got the seafood ragout and were delicious ! We loved the seared scallop and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Below it was a pasta that was close to cous cous. For the third course, I got the beef and it was so good ! It was very tender and melted in my mouth. It was a good portion for the price. It was 165 per person for the 4 course option. The servers were very friendly but sometimes we did have to ask for waters to be refilled. The only downside was the mocktail I got. I ordered a non alcoholic margarita, and it was a little too salty for me but everything else was delightful!
