It's not a multi-plex like the ones in Spencer (to the South) and Okoboji (to the North), but it does show current films and at a decent admission price. It's also a handy place to go on a rainy day or if you're in the mood to be in an air conditioned space for a couple hours. Yes, the Pioneer is a little frayed at the edges, but it remains a quality movie watching value.

I am going to sound old now - but when I was kid the movies were 99 cents. you gave the attendant $1 and you got a penny back. they kept the rates low for years. granted the movies were always 6 months late coming to town but still the admission was only $.99. The prices now are higher but well worth it. if you are in the area stop by and support a long standing NW Iowa business.

The current movie house is located within the old Red Owl Grocery building and is directly across the parking lot from Mother Nature's Bar. For small town Iowa, that's a pretty good combination a date night idea. There are 3 screens here and there's no problem seeing a popular feature. Plus, air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter is always a bonus. It's also a typical chain experience and certainly lacks the character my boyhood memories.
