They were held at the Softail Saloon (Superior) and Mac's Top Hat (Estherville) respectively. On to #50 which was held last Saturday at this Elk's Club. Not as many Estherville Midget Class of 1974 friends were here than I would have liked, and sadly more had passed as we've aged. At the same time, we were among friends that happily picked up where we had left off. As I lingered, Gayle went off to sleep in the car, and even when I decided to leave (with many folks still talking), an old Jackson Browne song came to mind: "Oh won't you stay, just a little bit longer". And the OK buffet dinner was almost besides the point.

I recently returned to the VFW for a reception after my Mom's grave-side memorial at Oak Hill. The…read moreservice was 2 years to the day of her passing, with the delay due to my Mom's donation of her body to the University of Iowa Med School and the subsequent return of her ashes when she had completed her donation. Thanks to my friend Craig, a room for the family was reserved at the VFW, and we were able to order sandwiches and such from the menu. The bar was open too! We all enjoyed our family time, which of course included Mom stories that should never have been told in public. :) The VFW is not a fancy place, nor is the food "gourmet", but for the time and place, it was one of the best places to be.
