We have been to two special matinee showings this year. The Wind and the Reckoning and Sound of Freedom. Hometown feel, cool interior, sound good, bathrooms clean. One theater on island....made the drive from Eastside and would do it again for the right movie treat. read more

I've lived here for a couple of years and last night was my first time watching a movie at the Historic Waimea Theater--loved it! It was a throw back to experiences going to older theaters as a kid. Screen, visual, and sounds was perfect. So charming! read more

This island only has 2 theaters. The theater in Lihue gets all the new movies first and then it trickles down to this theater. We were able to get "Brave," a Disney-Pixar movie, for 2 days at the Waimea theater. I took the kids and I to the theater tonight and we ate some tasty hot dogs, a pizza and some ono cotton candy (it was just from a bag, but I enjoy cotton candy in any form). Adults pay $8, Students, Military and Seniors are $7, Children 5-10 pay $6. The sound system is a bit lacking here, but for a small island- I am happy that Waimea theater even exist. Very nice employees and the movie goers are very polite. I will keep coming! read more

If you get there early enough, you may have a chance to sit in there Ratan Lounge Chairs, which are really big and comfortable. I have not experienced anything negative with this establishment, but I do know that the Theater had to get rid of the "Filipino-Hawaiian" looking lady who also does massage's. That was a great move. Depending on where you are at, see a movie at either this theater or Waimea theater before they all close down because of the Netflix take over. Remember, Blockbuster has already closed its doors in some States. Food: A good selection for this size theater. Service: Workers are friendly. Atmosphere: Comfortable. Price: All I can say is that it's cheaper than Honolulu theater's, which is $10.75 for 1 adult. Yes, that's right, $10.75, this is not a typo. This is as of the date of this posting. Such a great little theater! Perfect for what we needed and it kind of fell into our laps! I took a 2 university music groups to perform a concert on Kauai and we were going to play at a church hall but then someone in the community hooked us up with Thomas and the Waimea Theatre. It was everything we needed. Sound and lighting, raised stage, they even had concessions going for the performance. It was perfect!!! read more

As many have already pointed out (& as I did in my review of the one at Kukui Grove), yes...the island only has two theaters. Sure, this theater could use some improvement (then again, name one establishment that doesn't). Sure, they do get the movies a little late...& I'm talking a few weeks (sometimes even a month or two after it premieres). & sure, it is just one big viewing room inside. However... In some cases (& especially regarding the latter two circumstances), this place could be seen as a godsend. For one thing, sometimes people are too busy to see a movie when it first comes out or simply don't have the money to spare at the time. Therefore although it may be a little late, at least this way they are given the option of seeing the movie in the theater. Second, one big room could mean more space. In my opinion, that is something I actually like about this theater...it never really gets super crowded. Also...one thing that the Kukui Grove theater doesn't have that this one does is...lounge chairs (in the middle of theatre, if i recall)!! The furthest movie West in the U.S.-unless there's one in the Aleutians ,seriously doubt that though. Very nice,courteous staff and audience.Discounts for some,military and older folk @ least. Love the small town feel of the theater. I would think that one of the reasons why the movies come late here is the fact that the film prices drop after its initial release making it more affordable to be able to show current movies. I've been coming here since the early 60's when we lived in the Waimea Sugar Mill Camp just a short walk away. Nice place that offers rental for events. read more

Waimea Theater now has digital projectors with amazing sound! No more rolls of heavy film. They just pop in thier Special hard drives or something like that. Nice and cool AC on hot days and fresh popped popcorn. Very friendly staff. The back row still has the large comfort lounge seats.(Get there early for them ) Very nice and updated interior design. Nice staff. The theater is also occasionally used for public meeting, theater productions and school band presentations. But mostly its a movie theater and theres lots of room. Very clean and modern. Great digital Dolby type stereo sound system! Beautiful place. Discount of $1 for students, seniors, ect. read more

Waimea Theatre is by far one of my favourite movie houses of all time. For those movie fans living on Kauai, it is an absolute godsend. I can only hope that it does not disappear only to be replaced by some other commercial business. To whoever owns the theatre I can only express my heartfelt thank you for keeping it open. read more
