This week I bought a new ebike rack. Darren, at the Hitch Shop showed us the models and patiently explained options to us. I didn't purchase that day, and did a little more price comparison and they were the same as other shops. I chose a Swagman model, Candaian product made in Penticton, BC. I returned a few days later. He installed it using my ebike and made the adjustments and got me to hands on do everything so that when I was on my own I knew exactly how it all worked. I returned today to ask another question and he demonstrated for me. It was such an awesome customer service experience. 10/10 highly recommend! Kudos to Darren!! read more

The Hitch Shop suggested a Draw-Tite hitch that was later found to be defective. It caused over $4000 in damage to my car. Hitch shop did not stand behind this product or even offer a refund. Worst. Service. EVER! Avoid this place! read more

had a hitch installed on a Mercedes glk 250 earlier this year. I was told it would be done to manufacture's specs. now I'm getting some work done on my Mercedes and they way the hitch was installed prevents access to the gas tank and other components which requires the removal and the reinstallation of the hitch at a cost of up to $2000. Calgary Hitch Shop says they instal to the hitch mftr requirements not Mercedes, so it's not their problem. Deceptive and misleading. Don't trust these guys. Furthermore, with the initial work performed they didn't properly secure the exhaust which resulted in a persistent rattling, which also cost me $200 to fix following their install. AMAZING Service!!!! The Hitch shop goes above and beyond to help their customers. We brought our new (to us) 2019 Odyssey to the Hitch Shop on a Wednesday - the day we bought it - for a trailer hitch. The Hitch Shop did a beautiful job and even placed the Tekonsha trailer brake system in a place that wasn't easily seen. (We had the dealer put one on our last van and it was very conspicuous and you banged your knee on it if you weren't paying attention). On Friday, when we went to hitch up our tent trailer and take off for the weekend, the lights weren't working! We called and they said to come right over. The technicians dropped what they were doing, helped us find the possible fuse problem and suggested what to do. They also suggested what to do when we got home, if the new fuse didn't solve the problem. We so appreciated that they took our call, that they said come right over, that they took the time to show my husband where the fuse that may have been the problem was (it was not labeled on our fuse panel and my husband is quite good at electrical!) and that they suggested what to do when we got home and tried hitching up again. I can't recommend these guys enough - they made the difference between sleeping in our cozy tent trailer and either cancelling our trip or having to sleep in a tent (Heaven forbid!) I called for a CERT 16 k slider hitch for my 2019 Dodge RAM 1500 HEMI. They got my truck in quick and even took the time to show me how to use it. I had gotten estimates from 5 other places in Calgary, they all were around $5000 to supply and install due to my truck being a short box and a Dodge... The hitch shop south only charged me around $1700 Update*** Currently trying to work with the hitch shop to fix the situation.. A little concerned at the owners response.. but will keep updating. read more

This company has poor after service support! Don't take my word for it check out the Hitch Shop under BBB Calgary, which includes the other shop Bob owns in the NE called the Hitch Warehouse. These folks may generally know their business, just don't expect them to back it, especially Bob! In my case, they incorrectly installed a flat tow hitch system, which came loose after only about a thousand miles. They tell me they had to fire the employee (likely for other bad installations), but they refuse to reimburse any costs for the repairs needed to continue on our travels. I waited for 3 months for even just 1 call back from Bob to discuss this situation. So besides being out several hundred $ for the repairs, I have a tow system I can't trust and likely will have to spend several hundred more on a different system to resolve the problem. Guess who's not going to get that business! read more

I called the Hitch Shop as I was traveling in my motor home and was having problems with my braking system for my tow vehicle. Bob invited me to drop by saying they would be happy to take a look at it for me. How great is that! Most places it is 4 to 5 weeks to get an appointment but Bob and staff we so kind and helpful. The part I needed was nowhere to be found in the Calgary area but with looking at my vehicles, trouble shooting and sourcing they spent almost an hour. No charge!!! This is the second time using The Hitch Shop. Everyone there was super courteous and knowledgable. The work they did on my first vehicle was so good I decided to go back to them again. They explained everything in detail and I never felt that uncertainty of being ripped off like I feel when I go into other shops. I would recommend them if I knew anyone who needed a hitch. We had been here before with fair service. Last year we needed repair on a wiring job done by a previous mechanic. We needed re-wiring and a new converter. After spending most of the day rewirng it, on the ground, behind the shop, we were off. The job cost over 400. We did ok last summer, but because the wiring was not properly harnessed, it got ripped out over the winter. We came back asking them to back their work and all they told us (very nicely mind you) is that we need our vehicle re-wired and A NEW converter. No warrantee. Here's my opinion. Unless you have deep pockets and stink of money, don't go here (you're welcome, Bob) This company has a poor after service support. Don't take my word for it check out the 42 ave branch of the Hitch Shop under BBB Calgary. These folks know their business, just don't expect them to back it. read more

Just a short story with my recent experience: My 26' travel trailer was feeling a bit squirrelly during higher speeds with gusty crosswinds and a basic weight distribution hitch just wasn't cutting it for towing comfort level. So, recently had a sway control hitch installed at an out of town hitch place. Even after the upgrade, it just didn't seem right to me and there was marginal sway improvement but they assured me it was 'just fine'. Decided to get a second opinion at the Calgary Hitch Shop (South). Boy, was I glad I did! Right away Bob took time out, answered all my questions and completed a hitch inspection. He confirmed things were not 'just fine' and actually no active sway control was implemented at the other hitch shop. Despite being a busy Friday before a long weekend and me not having an appointment, Bob got my Blue Ox sway control hitch corrected to the proper springs and optimal adjustments, double checked, test drove, dialled in the brake controller and double checked again. Bob is extremely knowledgeable and has the skill of hitch adjustment down to a fine tuned craft. I left the Calgary Hitch Shop very comfortable and confident taking my family out camping with trailer in tow. No more white knuckle highway driving! The Calgary Hitch Shop went above and beyond my expectations. Absolutely, will not hesitate to return. read more

So what feels like a million years ago...I used the hitch shop to have a hidden hitch installed. Fast forward a lot of years - I needed a fifth wheel hitch installed. I had the hitch and rails but just needed it installed. They were very accommodating with the appointment and had me on my way in to time. Fast forward to last Friday. I have been looking for a newer truck. I had some specifics that I was looking for. I had found the perfect truck - almost. The truck I had been looking at had ram boxes on it. After talking to many people and having a plethora of opinions thrown at me on how a fifth wheel with the ram box option was not going to work. I am not going to lie I was a bit deflated that this truck had absolutely everything else I wanted. The right rear end, the right transmission, the right size box and towing mirrors!! I picked up the phone and called The Hitch Shop. I asked if it was possible to put a fifth wheel in a truck with the ram box feature. I was told without hesitation YES. That was all I needed to hear...I put an offer on the truck and bought it. On Monday July 18 I drove to the hitch shop to look at hitches. They were going to get me in immediately!! We talked about having a box liner installed first. I left shopping around for a box liner. I went to several different places and some of those other shops told me that I could not have a fifth wheel hitch installed with the ram boxes. I went back to The Hitch Shop on Tuesday July 19 with no appointment, I never even called them. I just showed up and they were able to install a brand new fifth wheel while I waited. I will admit it took longer than they originally said and quite honestly I don't really care how long it takes, I care that it is done right. I like the feeling of knowing that it was installed properly and that my family and the rest of the people on the road are going to be safe. As for the cost - it came out slightly higher than what was first quoted. The reason for this is because before they started the install - they asked where I travel. They advised me that I needed a plug in the box if travelling to BC with my fifth wheel. So I said go ahead. I am so thankful they took the time to educate me about something I didn't know. I am sure the extra money I spent is far less than the ticket I could potentially have received. And the absolute best part of this hitch install....they took the time to show me exactly how it operates. They showed me how to slide it, They showed me how to remove it. And then they told me to bring it back if the height was not set correctly. They certainly didn't have to do that. They also have a great stock of supplies in the showroom. As a footnote to this I hooked the trailer up last night. I have tons of clearance. I jack knifed the outfit to see if I was even close to hitting the box rails and it doesn't even come close. I would hit the cab first....and the sliding fifth wheel will prevent me from doing that too!! Hats off to the staff at The Hitch Shop, they did a fantastic job and taking the time to make sure I understood how it worked before I left. Will definitely be back. Thanks again. read more

The Hitch Shop provided excellent customer service. Prior to leaving town on a camping trip with a borrowed trailer, I visited the shop to purchase a flat 4 to round 7 connector. Upon trying it out on the trailer, however, I realized that the connection on my truck was too corroded for a connection. We were going to leave the next morning, so I called the shop to see if they could fit us in. Not only did they make space for us in an already busy day, they finished the job in under 3 hours, and for an amazing price. They even refunded what I paid for the adapter. Very poor experience here in a disorganized and filthy shop. Quote was given verbally, nothing written provided for a fifth-wheel hitch installation. Truck was 1 1/2hrs late, even though we requested and were promised a specific pick-up time. Complete lack of communication and unauthorized work done leaving us with an invoice $300.00 (!!!) more than quote. Also note verbally abusive staff. read more

We had purchased a hitch for our new trailer 3 years ago, after a couple of trips back to have adjustments I was never satisfied that everything was correct. I visited the Hitch Shop on 42 Ave SE in Calgary and chatted with Bob, he told me to bring the trailer by and he would look at it. When I did this he started with a hitch weight measurement, made a couple of calls to his support people and discussed the situation and determined that our hitch was under sized and needed to be upgraded, as a "Best" solution. I expected a long weight period for this and we were leaving on holidays in a couple of days. He gave me a couple of options on a install time, I picked one and dropped the truck and trailer off, I should say that in-order to accommodate this time period he was staying late and squeezing us in after hours. I bought my hitch & bike rack from these guys 4 years ago and love it! This year when I reinstalled it, I noticed it was really wobbly and felt loose. I went in to the hitch shop and was so impressed with the service! Darren came out and checked my hitch and then reattached it. Turns out I didn't have it in correctly. The process probably took about 20 minutes. They didn't even charge me! Their work was fine but the final price was much more than originally quoted, which I know quotes can change once they get the vehicle. It's the fact that they fail to tell you that their $75/hr labor fee goes up if they have more than one person working on your vehicle - to me your hourly rate is your hourly rate regardless of how many people you assign to the job BUT should this change you should inform your customer beforehand so that they are not surprised at the end. The lack of transparency will keep me away in the future. read more
