I fully understand the shortcomings of dealing in used and junker cars. I have driven them and…read morefixed them for my entire driving career (56 years). I just bought two cars from Sands Auto. They appear to be great deals for the money so far. We looked at about 6 vehicles closely and test drove at least 4. One which was purported to need a power steering box stopped shifting 5 miles down the road and just after we put $80 worth of gas into it. We had already purchased this vehicle. Bad tranny. When I called Sands fearing the worst Dave (Zimmerman) said "bring it back and we'll work things out." We discerned that the power steering box was actually in pretty good working condition. Dave took care of us, deducted the price of the gas, and set things right. We ended up buying a significantly better vehicle for a very reasonable price. If you buy a car from Sands Auto deal with Dave. He will get the job done to everyone's satisfaction. He had me by the balls but did the right thing. So I say don't be afraid to buy a car from Sands Auto. Just make sure you deal with Dave. He even returned my message while on his way to work early on Black Friday. We had no idea if the truck was still available or if we could even look at it. They highly recommend and suggest that you have to set up an appointment first. And we were already on our way by Uber. The $110 gamble turned out to be worth every cent. We all left with smiles on our face. Dave included. Happy Holidays to you and your family Dave!!! And thanks again for being responsible and displaying such integrity!!! Dave Hafner Maplewood, Mn

We talked to the buyer when we first bought it and before they had mentioned they checked everything. Then later into the day the engine light came on and it stayed on until today. So then I got it checked and we already needed to replace the timing chains in the engine. It costs 1,500 to 2,000 dollars to fix. If you do buy from here take someone who knows about cars with you, or else ask for a in depth analysis. But honestly I wouldn't.

In July of 2016, I had purchased a 2007 Chevrolet Impala LT from Jim at Jay Thompson Auto sales. I…read moreput a $1000 down and agreed to pay him directly, monthly payments. A few weeks after owning the vehicle I noticed it was running rough and the check engine light came on. I brought it to O Reilly's to have them check the engine light and they said it was multiple misfires on the cylinders and an oil sending unit. Also, I would be driving and out of nowhere a message would pop up saying service traction control soon engine power reduced and then the engine lost power and I would have to pull over to the side of the road. This has happened to me numerous times and on the freeway to make things scary. I brought it to his attention and he said to schedule an appointment with Princeton Auto and so I did for the next day. The next day the car wouldn't start because of a lose battery terminal, which of course wiped out the engine codes for the check engine light so when I brought it there they could not figure it out. So, I went to go pick up my car and have way home the check engine light came back on, my car started jerking back and forth, and the service traction control message came back on and I ended up driving it like that home. The next day I called Jim and he was frustrated and yelling at me and told me to get the car back there. I had set up another appointment and they said it was the oil sending unit. Jim did not want to pay what they asking for so he said he was hiring a new mechanic and will have him do it. My car sat at Princeton Auto for a week and I needed my car to go to work and school. So, I picked up my car and brought it to my mechanic and paid him a $100 to replace the oil sending unit. I went to go pick it up on voting day and it drove home fine. Later that day I left for work and as I drove three or four blocks down the road the engine blew out. I managed to get it home in time before it completely went out. I called Jim and told him about and he said he would take care of it he promised me that. It took him two weeks to get my car and another two weeks for his mechanic to figure out what it was and that it was not worth fixing for him. In late December Jim tells me he has the same car except a year older with less miles and that I was going to absolutely love this sooo much that I am going to call him and tell him that all the time. He said these things repeatedly. When I went to go pick it up it was not there for me to test drive it or look at it. He made me fill out paperwork for this car I did not get to look at before making a decision about it. He drove me to the mechanic where it was at and when we pulled up next to it I was floored. It was trashed on the inside out. There was hail damage, cracked fenders, the back seat looked like a bunch of people had defecated and smeared it all over. The check engine light came on halfway to work and the car would not accept gas meaning the pump would click repeatedly. I could only get a few bucks worth of gas in at a time. That same day I picked it up, after work I called him and told I did not want this car and that I am giving up. It took him almost three weeks to repossess the car. I have been a returning customer who has always made his payments on time and in full and this is the thanks I get. For the five months I had my car I only got to drive it for two. The rest of the three months it sat in my driveway while Jim promised me over and over that he would take care of it and never did. On February 18th, I brought my Mom to Red Lobster in St. Cloud. On the way back I decided to drive by that dealership and here he has my car with a blown motor on his lot again for sale.
