This small liquor store in my neighborhood is amazing. The family that owns it are honest, hardworking and amazing people.

Great selection of all things alcohol. Do not go here hungry. They only have a few bags of chips, some candy, some jerky, and a dozen of so lemons and limes. This is the place for alcohol. They even have decent parking if you're looking to spend some time. Prices are what you'd expect in LoHi. If you're looking for deals then you'll need to head out to the suburbs for that. But if you're in a rush or live in walking distance then this is it baby. And the family that runs the store is super friendly. Good stuff... read more

One star is way too much for this place! Went to buy some margarita mix and since it's the closest to my house decided to go here. Purchased my product and went home to make a drink. Went to open up my product and there was no seal on the outside and no seal under the lid so decided that it was either opened and returned or was just a defect. Went back to the store to return the product and the lady behind the counter wanted to argue with me that she would have to pay for the product since it was open. WOW, so I have to pay for something that was already opened?!?!!?!?! It was not like I was trying to get money back but just exchange my already opened product for another. I was even going to buy a bottle of Tequila but now there is no way I will ever return to that place or would I recommend to anyone else. It's worth the drive to Argonaut for better customer service and MORE RESPECT!!! This is a prime reason why so many business fail! read more

The owners, John and Hanna along with their adult sons are the nicest business owners in the neighborhood. They always have a treat for my pup too.. The prices are fair and I like to support them. They could use a little organization help. You just have to find it charming that they will stock their shelves silly billy putting the liquor on the shelf wherever there happens to be shelf space...rum among vodka, bourbon among gin. . :-). read more

I like supporting local businesses. This is one that I like a lot. It's a tad bit far from my neighborhood, but I always drive there because of their selection and price points. The Riverfront/Highlands area isn't exactly cheap when it comes to liquor stores. You're not going to find an Argonaut in this area. However, this place is fairly hard to beat for a mid-size LQ. They have a big selection, and they're open quite frequently. If you're in the area, check it out. It's not mind-blowing, but it works. Viva HJM. read more

This liquor store is really handy either by bike or car (park behind it off street). It's been there forever and the staff couldn't be friendlier. They have a great selection of wines (organic too) and cold beer. read more

Why do I feel like I'm constantly being over charged? I guess because I am. I have frequented this liquor store many times and every time I've left feeling over charged. They just stand there and plant numbers into the register with little regard to the actual price. When some items have prices on them and others don't, how is one to tell whether they're being over charged or not? My last trip here I mentioned something to who I'm assuming is the husband, and one of the owners of the place, that it seemed I was charged incorrectly. He looked at me in dismay and started to add the items over again. Half way through he got confused and called his wife over. She took over and rang everything up again. As it was, I was over charged by $1.32. Wait, what? I didn't even buy anything for a $l.32. I brought that to her attention and she just looked at me like we weren't speaking the same language. Unfortunately, I have a sneaking suspicion that they are over charging or just adding small amounts to the total. I figure that most people don't notice because they're not paying attention, especially if they are buying several items, or they're already quite intoxicated. What's even more fishy is that they claim that they cannot provide a detailed receipt of the items you purchased with their prices and taxes if you ask for one. I know that $1.32 doesn't seem like that much, but over time it would add up quite quickly. And it's my money! It's quite sad that this seems to be going on. They have a great selection of wines and craft beers and the people really are very friendly. Fortunately or unfortunately, I won't be spending my money here anymore. read more

I just came in here to use the ATM. I needed $400 but it only allowed $200 in each transaction. I withdrew $200 just fine. I withdrew $200 again and it gave me $170 (2 $5s instead of the last 2 $20s). I went to talk to the woman in the front and she said I needed to call the bank. I tried to withdraw the last $40 and get a receipt but it gave me $10 (2 $5s instead of 2 $20s). I tried to tell the woman and ask her to put a sign on the ATM to warn her customers but she ended up in a shouting match with me. Not once did I blame her or the store, not once did I ask her for the missing money, I just wanted them to warn people that the ATM was messed up. I learned my lesson, only bank ATMs for me from now on. This place is super sketchy and I was appalled at the way I was treated. read more

I love this small neighborhood family owned liquor store. Hannah John and their boys are real. So kind. And my pup gets a treat each time we venture in. Do they have a great selection of wine? A tad pricey, but any liquor store in the hood is gonna be. The owners are super nice and always greet me when I come in. They see me so often that I don't even get carded anymore. I went in on a Saturday afternoon and bought a bottle and a mixer. The total was 30-something. I then just today checked my bank statement, and it looks like they charged me over $65!!! I tried to call the establishment many times and only receive a busy signal. I have filed a complaint with the bank. read more

Beware! My girlfriend and I have been loyal customers of HJM for well over a year, we spend an average of probably $50 a day there, including cigarettes , etc...We are so close to them in the Highlands it was always very convenient to get our spirits there and befriended the owners Hanna and John on a first name basis. Up until today we have always enjoyed the experience shopping there. But, a purchase last night changed everything and all of my opinions about this "ma and Pa" local liquor store. WE , my girlfriend and I went in last night to buy a bottle of mid-shelf liqueur like Bailey's for our coffee this am. Well, they were out of St. Brenddands (another mid shelf coffee liqueur that we enjoy , it's cheaper than Bailey's and taste almost as good). So, Hanna, one of the owners recommended another brand called "Cake and ??), and we trusted it would be fine and purchased it for$ 14.99. Well, this morning I went to use it with our coffee . I opened the lid and nothing poured out, (imagine opening a fresh bottle of Heinz ketchup and having to use a knife to create a release of the fluid inside), well thats exactly what I had to do with this product, it was probably sitting on the shelf so long a seal of it at the opening was developed and after a few hard stabs, it came rushing out , some of it in chunks, some in natural form. Anyway, about half the bottle ended up in a cup and all over our countertop. I had the balls to taste it and sure enough I was swallowing chunks of the product with the fluid itself. So, I immediately drove down to HJM wine and spirits to talk to Hanna, and explain the situation , and ask for a replacement bottle of something. I was diplomatic from the start but she asked why it was half empty and said she couldn't replace the bottle to the vendor in that condition, again I explained my story about it being half empty and she walked away with no interest in my explanation and returned with a bottle , half the size of the one we originally bought, at the tune of $7.99 and said "Have a good day". I was shocked. After all the money we have spent there and the friendship we had created , she wasn't willing to at least replace the bad bottle with something comprable to the $14.99 price/ and larger size. It was a $7 difference. I said fine, Im taking my business to GENO'S, (about 4 blocks up the street), I guess our relationship wasn't worth an equal extra $7 . So folks, beware and I would seriously consider using GENO'S anyway, they are slightly cheaper and just as friendly and probably have enough business sense , in a situation like ours, to make it right, esp to a customer who spends as much as we do . Incredible story of greed and disrespect. Look closely at the labels and see how long their products sit on the shelves or are past due, luckily I didn't get sick. It's very sad actually , because we had become fairly good friends with Hannah and John, but we wont be returning, nor will we ever recommend this store to anyone that likes common decent customer service, isn't the customer always right?? This is hands down my favorite liquor store in the neighbor. Hannah, John, and their children are so kind, and it's wonderful to see familiar faces when you come in. They also allow dogs to come in while you shop and usually have a treat for my dog when we check out. Some of the reviews on here criticize that this store is not glamorous -- there are plenty of over-priced, snooty liquor stores in the neighborhood if that's what you're looking for. This place has all of the basics, reasonable prices, late hours, and wonderful owners. read more
