Every plant they planted was either killed by them or the cold. Everything they moved died. No credit offered for anything removed or killed. I lost $5,000 and all I have left to show is a small fan palm and the paver border. Please do not Paton these guys. They are not landscaping SMEs. read more

What a wonderful company to work with. Right from the start we became not just customers but friends. Daniel and Chris were great to work with. They were very customer oriented and very detailed. Their crew is just as detailed, friendly, and professional. Daniel and Chris believe that the work should be as if they were doing it in their own backyard and for themselves, and it shows. I have worked with many contractors, and this is the first time my wife and I been happy with a project from the start to the completion. We met Daniel from HLG Growers at the home and garden show in Ladson On line reviews were positive Sow Install irrigation, trim existing bushes, install weed barrier, create design to incorporate current plantings and add 100 plants and a tree, lay pine straw Install 10 low voltage lights nstall 2 stone paths consisting of a total of 20 blue stones, lay rock base for fire pit, relocate and rock scape existing plastic basin pond, Level existing artificial turf putting green. Pros Overall looks good Daniel is personable and knowledgeable Cons Without any forewarning or discussion Daniel and his partner showed up and announced they were abandoning our project without addressing the putting green or rockscapung the pond. .They claimed they had underbid and did not have time to address what they thought was tree roots under the green. They demanded full payment of final balance. We refused but proposed we would get estimate from another company to complete this work and deduct that difference off the remaining balance we owed . Christian became irate and raised his voice. (It was at this moment I felt obligated to post a review). they wound up completing these 2 tasks in 3 hours Communication is non existent. Don't know when or if they are coming. On 2 days they promised to work to make up lost time they were a no show No text , no phone call Left one day on what we thought was lunch- but turned out left for the day No communication Lastly after paying $27,500 1. We have to bring dirt in to fill in sunken areas along irrigation system install. (And they told us where we could get it.. what a joke) 2. They substituted a lesser quality ie price rock on the fire pit per the contract without discussing , i am undecided if i will have to replace the "shifting gravel" they used instead of the river rock we paid for 3. They cut sod to install irrigation then left to finish another project to lay sod (while ours baked in hot sun) . By the time they returned days later the sod was dead. They used the dead sod stating they would replace it with fresh sod if necessary- that never happened. Have to look at brown patches as grass grows in 4. I discovered weed barrier was not completed.but pine straw had been placed on top. When asked their reply was they had run out. I had to insist this be placed and they went and got more 5. They told us we need to mortar the retaining stones securing the green. IMO this was their scope of leveling the green. It is unfortunate that they chose to conclude business in such an unexpected and unprofessional manner. I like Daniel and would have liked to continue business with him as they offer upkeep services -which we discussed. They have made that an impossible option for us now Project was quoted at one and a half weeks. HLG Growers just finished up laying pavers on my patio and backyard. Everything looks great. They showed up when they said they would and finished the job in the estimated time window The owner was very personable and was on the job site all 3 days He was really making sure everything was just right. I placed a review acouple months ago on my personal experience with Mr. Teague and wanted to update situation. I took Mr. Teague to Small Claims Court on 6/25/21. He showed up with his son, 1 employee, and an Attorney. All 3 of them lied from start to finish. I guess they don't know the meaning of Under Oath. After almost 4 long hours in court I WON! I guess the judge seen through their BS/lies. Sad situation that he is teaching his son how to run a business. read more

I can not express how excited I am with my new landscape and pavers that HLG Growers designed for my yard. It started off with just wanting new plants... to Christian being a creative genius and came up with a path, a landing at the bottom of our deck and a dry riverbed in our front bed. The plants he can up with and trees are perfect for me and my husband.... LOW MAINTENANCE.... which was my number one request! Christian Teague and his crew redid our pond fountain and landscape. I can not say enough on the awesome job they did. Pictures speak for themselves. They were on time, professional, and cleaned up after themselves. I would absolutely use this company again for any masonary work, plants, landscaping and design. Extremely knowledgeable. read more

Bad company. They do what they want; not what you ask for and not what they agree to do. I worked 8 hours per day for three days to fix the walkway they put in. They put in expensive flagstone and it is uneven with sand in between that washes away. He gave a price range and the final price charged came in at the high end despite my reducing the original task. I reviewed the plant pricing and found errors of more than $700. When challenged on the labor costs, he provided hours worked that were false. They included paying for the lunch breaks of his crew and his full time. He was on site only one of the five days of the project and only for 30 minutes. To add insult to injury, he charges $50 per hour for every hour charged. None of this was spelled out in the terms of the agreement. When challenged on the outrageous charges, he simply stated "that's they way I charge." He would show up on Friday evening with his children with a bill for current work that wasn't justified; he wanted the money before he headed off to North Carolina. Terrible. Don't use this company. read more

I hired Christian Teague, and HLG Growers in June 2014. Christian stated that he would complete our yard project for a total of $8,000.00 which would include the following: a concreted in flagstone walkway, a pond, plants around the perimeter of the yard, sod with topsoil, and the drainage from the gutters to the pond. He was even going to make a path to the front of the house for us. It ended up we didn't need gutters to the pond, and we purchased ALL of the stone, ALL of the gravel, ALL of the sand. Christian purchased 1 pallet of rock, which was the wrong kind of rock to be used with a Japanese style pond, and we now have 36 rocks strewn about our yard, because he said that "no one will take back rock". What ended up happening, is he put in the flagstone walkway, and DID NOT concrete around the stones. When I asked him what was going on, he responded that the fine sand "would harden up as time went by". What actually happened, was by the 2nd week, there were weeds growing in it, and we had to hire a 2nd firm to come in and concrete the walkway to a tune of an extra $800.00. Teague didn't order the correct pond size liner, so instead of waiting while the correct size was ordered, he rebuilt the pond to his own specs, instead of what we asked for, and in fact had sent him photos AND videos of. We had asked for a low lying Japanese pond, and he built a 5' tall waterfall, with no pond at all. He then stated that he would have to "charge us for the labor to undo the pond, as his help doesn't work for free", but he would only charge us 1/2 labor costs (ended up being $700.00 for the day for 2 men). He then left after the debacle with the pond. Our backyard is still a dirt pit, with no grass, unfinished plant beds, etc.... He charged us man hours for no one working and I still have NEVER received my final bill so that I can see all my charges. Do not use HLG Growers. I have heard (too late now) from too many people that he does not listen to the customer, and I can attest to that. By the way, I settled with him out of court, and he paid me $1150.00...in coins. The owner totally got it wrong with my water feature installation. We met a few times and discussed what my wife and I wanted. I received an estimate which was about twice what we planned on but agreed anyway. (Our error) Other than a description there was no plan, drawing or even a staked out plot provided. Several weeks later construction began. I questioned the size and scope of the project. I requested that the feature be smaller. My driveway was filled with material and he continued. The delay in started meant that our being away coincided with the construction. He asked for payment before completion pleading that he needed to meet payroll. He said, if you aren't pleased when you return, "I'll make it right for you." A week later we returned and I saw a monster pile of rocks framed by some plant material. After repeated calls and one final visit, Mr. Teague proposed adding more plant material instead of downscaling what he had built. This was unsatisfactory to us. Several more weeks passed and we set up a meeting for a Saturday morning. After several calls to me saying he would be late, and then after three hours I told him I was concluding our business relationship. He is not capable of really listening to clients and working with them. Be advised. read more
