During this time of the year, we tend to go to multiple temples on top of the one we frequent. It's like... there's no such thing as too much good luck. This year for Vietnamese New Years I had the opportunity to visit Chua Pho Da or Pho Da Buddhist Temple for the first time. WOW!! I have been missing out. Apparently this is an incredibly popular temple. I actually parked .3 miles away and walked over since it was soooooo packed during new years. I was absolutely in awe of how stunning this temple looked. They had all the essence of traditional Vietnamese flowers and decorations but there were modern touches such as picture friendly backdrops for the public to take pictures and enjoy. I would have to say this temple might have one of the most photo taking: Instagram, tik tok, snap chat, social media opportunities. The atmosphere was definitely popping. There was live performances like singing and dancing. There was many tables put out for folks to sit and enjoy this festive energy or eat vegetarian food. In the main hall, I was able to make my prayers for my family and friends to have a healthy, happy, prosperous, and safe year. Also, they were handing out "loc" which is good luck for the new year. In addition to the tangerine, they gave a symbolic red envelope. I noticed the temple had their custom red envelopes. It's not about the money inside but more for the sake of the blessing from temple. Whether you are religious or you just want to come for a festive Vietnamese New Year back drop, this is THEE PLACE TO BE!! I am glad I had the opportunity to make my way to Chua Pho Da and I will definitely keep them in mind in the future. Chuc Mung Nam Moi!!

I see the monks here at the temple on almost a weekly basis…read more For I am their UPS Driver, and yes Buddhist monks do order and buy various things online. Every time I deliver here I am greeted with a warm smile and bag of fruits or veggies to take home. They also gave me a pair of Phalenopsis Orchids after I told them I used to tend and raise orchids as a hobby. They gave me the orchids because they were done flowering and weren't quite sure how to take of them. The monks here are so polite, gracious, and nice to me. It totally makes my week when I have opportunity to deliver to the temple. When you walk inside the temple it's as if you momentarily exited the hustle and bustle of Orange County as the hectic traffic of Jamboree Road goes mute as you walk deeper inside the temple. The sounds of light chanting can be heard but it's not too loud. Just loud enough to be heard and put your mind at ease. Attached is a photo of one of the orchids the temple gave to me.

The other temple I've been to is the Hsi Lai Temple in Hacienda Heights and that one is along the same lines at those in Asia. This particular temple doesn't allow incense inside the temple. Because the temple isn't separated into different rooms with courtyards in between it is impossible to burn incense anywhere except at the entrance. And even so, there is a lack of incense available. I couldn't see any for purchase either. Note to myself -- bring my own incense next time. Other than that, if you just wanted to sit and pray, this temple is pretty good. It's separated into a few smaller rooms and a large room. On the day of our visit, the large room was where the monks and nuns were doing their chants. I still prefer Hsi Lai much more but this temple is so much closer so I guess I like it for that reason!

On the last day not only was the head monk rude, he started putting my family down. For someone to be a monk, they are suppose to be compassionate, loving, caring, and set by example. This is our first ever time my family and I had to do a funeral. We wasn't sure of what we are suppose to do, as in Buddhist way. Not only did he start yelling and screaming at everyone...he said out loud during the ceremony "that this is the worst funeral he's ever been too". Instead of showing us or telling us what or how we are suppose to do things. He ruined my father's funeral. The head monk is only nice when he wants to collect money from you

Chua Huong Tich or Huong Tich Temple is a hidden gem of temples. They are a small temple that is in…read morethe area near many other large temples so I feel like they are often unnoticed or forgotten by compare. For years now, Chua Huong Tich has been part of my Vietnamese New Years temple visiting streak during the first month of the lunar new year. I really like that parking is abundant. They have a one-way private lot or plenty of street parking nearby and I never have to park too far since not too many people seem to know about this place. This temple has many beautiful statues and the main hall is especially stunning. The Su Co or female Buddhist nuns I have come across here have always been very welcoming and sweet. During Vietnamese New Years, they typically will give a "loc" or good luck item like fruits... most commonly an orange or tangerine. It is for good luck since they have prayed their blessings over these items. I find my experience here to be more calming and less hectic compared to the larger temples nearby. I will definitely keep returning at least for new years.
