Chua Pho Linh or Pho Linh Temple is a new discovery for my mom's and my Vietnamese New Years temple…read moretour. It was a windy day when we came and my mom thought they were closed. I'm a little braver and I said let's just try to open the gate... And it opened. We felt like it was meant to be that we came across this temple. I also rang the doorbell and to our lucks there were 2 female Buddhist monks who seemed to be finishing up their lunches. They kindly welcomed us in and to worship in the mainhall. The temple is very quaint but I can definitely feel their hearts were very big. The female Buddhist monk was explaining to us that her rank is "Ni Su" and not "Su Co". She is of a higher rank due to years of ... ... being a monk and some education criteria to it also. For the female Buddhist monks the ranking starts with Su Co, ~nun sister, then Ni Su, ~nun teacher, then ultimately Su Ba, ~elder nun. It was expressed that you must be very old to get to Su Ba level. My mom and I were very touched by their friendliness as they even invited us to have some free vegetarian lunch. They gave us these delicious bowls of noodles full of flavor and textures. It was amazing vegetarian food. We got some additional vegetarian sides to take home to support the temple. I also noticed that the temple is very involved in a lot of charity work with food donation, toy donations and more. We could feel their benevolence and my mom and I both felt a connection to them. We will definitely consider coming back to visit when we are in the area.

For the Buddhist Vietnamese folks, we love going to temple to start the year off praying for health, fortune, prosperity, whatever that individual desires. During this time of the year, we tend to go to multiple temples on top of the one we frequent. It's like... there's no such thing as too much good luck. This year for Vietnamese New Years I had the opportunity to visit Chua Pho Da or Pho Da Buddhist Temple for the first time. WOW!! I have been missing out. Apparently this is an incredibly popular temple. I actually parked .3 miles away and walked over since it was soooooo packed during new years. I was absolutely in awe of how stunning this temple looked. They had all the essence of traditional Vietnamese flowers and decorations but there were modern touches such as picture friendly backdrops for the public to take pictures and enjoy. I would have to say this temple might have one of the most photo taking: Instagram, tik tok, snap chat, social media opportunities. The atmosphere was definitely popping. There was live performances like singing and dancing. There was many tables put out for folks to sit and enjoy this festive energy or eat vegetarian food. In the main hall, I was able to make my prayers for my family and friends to have a healthy, happy, prosperous, and safe year. Also, they were handing out "loc" which is good luck for the new year. In addition to the tangerine, they gave a symbolic red envelope. I noticed the temple had their custom red envelopes. It's not about the money inside but more for the sake of the blessing from temple. Whether you are religious or you just want to come for a festive Vietnamese New Year back drop, this is THEE PLACE TO BE!! I am glad I had the opportunity to make my way to Chua Pho Da and I will definitely keep them in mind in the future. Chuc Mung Nam Moi!!

It's a nice, peaceful, tranquility and pleasant temple in OC. They do have a nice big (but not…read morethat big) backyard with koi fish pond, fruit trees surrounded with plenty of shades. Buddha statues are displayed everywhere from the front parking to the back. The parking lot is small, for 12-15 cars the most but there are street parking too...can be hectic during holidays. The only thing that makes me feel abit at odd is that religious and politics shouldn't and wouldn't mix or displaced. I don't care which side you're on but when you're at the temple, you're searching for peace and relaxation. Not to discuss politic or to hear about it, especially with the head monk. It makes me lost the respect for the temple.

There are many resources, free books for everyone to study Buddhism. Although this is not the biggest and most beautiful temple in Southern California, I feel the warm sincerity of the monks here. Especially, they never ask for anything from the Buddhists when I need help such as making offerings, praying for the dead, praying for peace. This temple has a spacious parking lot right in front of the temple. Every year, on the occasion of Lunar New Year, I often come here to pray
