After dinner, we decided to grab a late night drink at Hobart Brewing Company. It's a huge spot with a taproom in the red shed/barn and a massive amount of outdoor seats in what they've dubbed as their "beer park" (food truck included). We dropped in on a Thursday evening (around 8:45pm). Wasn't too busy but there were a couple groups having drinks. The service is fantastic; one of the barkeeps was incredibly friendly, chatty and let us try multiple samples of the beer! Really impressed with her. Hours are a bit odd as they're only open Thursday to Sunday. Sunday's hours are only 2:00pm to 5:30pm. Talk about short! There's beer, wine and spirits all listed up on the massive wall behind the bar. For beer, there were 10 options. Gin barrel aged saison was interesting and different. They even had some good looking, quality merchandise (t-shirts and hats). Hats were only $20.00 AUD. Cheapest I've seen at a brewery. - Johnny von gose ($10.00 AUD pint) - grapefruit zest, Himalayan pink salt and coriander. This was the closest thing they had to a sour and it was tasty. Best beer I've had in Australia and that's saying a lot. - Sundance saison ($7.50 AUD schooner) - B tried the saison which was light (3.5% ABN) and easy drinking. - Hat ($20.00 AUD) - came back the next night and bought a hat. Got lucky as they were closed but one of the staff was nice enough to let me in and grab one. Chill vibes and a great spot to grab some drinks. Looking forward to coming back next time I'm in Hobart.

I requested a booking online bUt it wasn't really necessary on a midweek evening at the end of January. Instead of the nice table inside, we grabbed a spot outside on the great shaded patio. Burgers and sandwiches make up most of the menu and tHere are several versions of sliders as well. We chose the eye of beef filet sliders, a side order of chips (thick cut fries) and a Cesar salad. The salad particularly tasted good after a long couple of days off traveling. Overall the food was decent but nothing all that special or memorable. Nonetheless the atmosphere was great with lots of locals grabbing pints of beer after work and enjoying the beautiful weather.

We eventually got a table and began to browse the menu, none of the burgers sounded all that appealing and were all very expensive for a burger, even before adding fries/drinks. One of us ordered their biggest burger (over $22) and when it came out, it didn't look good, they said the patties and other ingredients tasted burnt and the bread was old. For a place in Salamanca, this was a poor experience and we will not be returning, how they're in business I have no idea.

Operating in the warmer seasons on Fridays (and some bonus Sundays), Farm Bar is what it says on the box: a bar at a farm. More importantly, the bar is at 2MT's farm, where they make their delicious ales and ciders, so by now you can probably guess what's in stock at the bar. Correct: you can get a middy or a pint of delicious real ale or cider, kick back, and relax. Food is BYO, DIY -- the only food for purchase is hulking great slabs of 2MT's beer-fed beef and sausages, and there's a BBQ on site for you to cook up immediately (or you can take your meaty treasure home to savour at a later date). So bring your own salads, burger buns, stuff to eat off, chips and dips... you can even bring your own meat, if you want. Just don't forget to bring your own noms out with you. 2MT's Farm Bar is just under an hour's drive from Hobart, just outside of New Norfolk, and if you book ahead then you can score a seat on the #farmbarbus, which means for only $15 return, you're not the designated driver. The bus needs a minimum of 15 pre-bookings to run each Friday night, so make sure you go to 2MT's website (http://www.2mt.com.au/events_farm_bar_bus.html) to put your name on a seat. It's well worth it for a night out at Two Metre Tall's Farm Bar. And who knows... you might even be lucky enough to be allowed entry into the sacred Man Cave. (I'll let you discover that one for yourself.)
