Tucked behind the main Salamanca strip is this hip(ster) hangout. The easy part: they have a nice variety of tasty beer on tap, more than most of the other hangouts in Hobart. Small menu of "dude food"- wings, burgers, fries. The slightly more complicated part: most the aforementioned food items are unnecessarily complex and have odd additions to make the food seem "foodier", one might think to get away with charging more. The demographic is unmistakably hipster- beanies no matter the temperature, man buns, ironic pencil thin moustaches and vintage one speed bikes. That crowd, if you're not in that demographic, is cold at the best of times, rude and dismissive at the worst of times. If you're cool enough to belong to the crowd that hangs out there, check it out. If you don't listen to Billie Eilish or Bon Iver and prefer beer mugs to mason jars, there's more friendly places with better food for a lot less. read more

It took me a little while to get down with Preachers, but now I'm all over it. An institution to Hobart locals, it's back enough from the bustling Salamanca strip that few tourists stumble in the doorway... so it's mostly OURS, ALL OURS. I've really taken a shining to it over winter when you can turn up at any hour (well, except between around midnight and midday, which is a pity) and find somewhere to sit. I love that it's bucking the Tassie trend of ten ounces as the smaller standard beer serve and gunning straight for schooners. Makes an ex-QLDer feel right at home, it does. The food isn't anything to write home about but it's the right kind of stuff to put in your belly once you've had a drink or four. The beers and ciders are the highlights at Preachers, with a regularly rotating list of offerings. It's also worth keeping track of the Preachers facebook page as occasionally there'll be a brewery/brand takeover--for example the Mountain Goat takeover went down an absolute treat with me. Cool place to hang out but not the best option for dinner. The menu has a selection of burgers which is good, nothing spectacular. Beer options are good and prices are good. If you come on a busy weekend night the wait for food can take up to 30 minutes, so plan accordingly. Tip: - They have a $10 credit card minimum and will ask you if its ok they charge you $10 for something less than $10. Just pay attention when paying. read more

This hip little bar bar in Hobart wouldn't be out of place in Melbourne. What bar doesn't need a bus parked in the beer garden where you can play bingo? I mean really, genius at its best right there. Needing a refreshment break from all my shopping down at Salamanca Markets, this place was perfect on a sunny (warmish) Hobart afternoon. Set back just enough from the busy markets it seems many tourists don't bother walking up that tiny, little hill to see what's on offer. The lady behind the bar was great at suggesting local drinks and happy to let us sample a few to make sure we were happy with our picks. Chilled, relaxed and friendly crowd. I loved this place. Yes it has a bus were you can sit in and have a drink. But even without that I would suggest this place. Very cool and relaxed vibe. This is a small craft beer bar. I love craft beer, so I was immediately in love. The staff are friendly and will help you pick the beer for you, if you are not aware of some of their selection. The burgers, which are $15, are great. Really tasty. With real ingredients. Come here for a drink. Even though it is not on the water you won't regret it. read more

Can't wrong this place at all! It's got all you need, from a wide rang of wines and beers from all different regions and countries to a casual and chilled vibe. There's an old abandoned bus outside covered in lights with cushioned chairs and wooden benches and heaters all around. It's a great place to meet with friends or just sit with a good book. The food was delicious, not just your typical pub food! Lots of vegan options and generally healthier options too! Definitely worth coming to when you're in Hobart! read more

A quaint little place, once you find it (duck into the side street, down the lane, and around the corner to the other lane way). It's an old house that's been transformed into a pub-restaurant, with an outdoor yard around the side that hosts an iconic bus (in which you can sit, eat, and drink). Nice ambience. Order inside at the bar. Food is great. I had the Vege (felafel) Burger, which really hit the spot, served with a good helping of thick cut fries. Good range of beers on tap, too. It was reasonably quiet on a Sunday night. read more

Visiting Tasmania from Hawaii and on our last day found this awesome spot. Super cool vibe, laid back, relaxed atmosphere. Outdoor seating with a big bus you can sit and eat in called "the retro metro". I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with chips. The best chicken sandwich I have ever eaten before. Chicken was cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of crispy breading. The relish on the sandwich was also a wonderful touch. Chips were delicious as well. Very nice selection of beer on tap and bottles. Service was very quick and friendly. read more

I love Preachers, good beer/cider list and a great spot to sit outside even if the weather isn't perfect! Here in Colorado we're spoiled with over 300 days of sunshine a year, but Tassie isn't as fortunate. The heaters and covered tables make Preachers one of the few places you can really enjoy being outside even when the weather changes for the worse on you! I can see why it's my sister's favorite hang-out! read more

Preachers is a quaint little bar off the the main hassle of salamanca. It's a renovated old cottages meaning that the inside is a rabbit warren of small overly cramped rooms. They have a great outdoors area, but with weather conditions the way they are in hobart (mostly wet) it only gets used on dry days. Prices are a tad on the expensive side but they do have an excellent selection of beers and wines you won't find around central hobart bars. Great for a quiet beer on a slow night, horrible when busy. read more

This bar is great - good beer on tap, jar drinks, a bus to lounge in, bean bags, communal tables, heat lamps, great apps, incredible workers (we came here once in a Tuesday with 15 people when a party of 20 had just arrived - the was one lady bartending, cooking, and cleaning, and did it all with patience and grace). Tucked away off Salamanca this is a great little pub with comfy couches indoors and an outdoor beer garden (including heaters in the colder months). It offers a great range of ales, lagers and ciders from Australia and abroad as well as wines. Staff are happy to give you tasters if you don't know what to choose. Definitely my favorite pub in Hobart at the moment - no chrome or plastic in sight! read more

Peaches is a fantastic little hideaway in Salamanca. Great beers, great food. Though, I'd like to see a few more international beers.
