I enjoy watching shows here. It has been years since I saw Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon. I'm so proud of childhood friends since intermediate school perform here for different touring shows such as Miss Saigon, Life of Pi and Beauty and the Beast. They were all in band but ended up in performing arts. I am excited for what's next for them. Our high school was big on theatre, so I've always enjoyed shows from early on. Recently, a few Yelp elite events and really great Broadway shows, musicals and singers have come through that brought me back. Sarofim Hall and Zilkha Hall are the main halls. Sarofim is bigger and grand with a beautiful starry ceiling. Zilkha is smaller and more intimate. There's a nearby parking garage and a cheap lot across that my friend recently told me about. I tend to Uber to avoid all that traffic, and it helps that I live 10 minutes away. There's a restaurant inside, but reservations are highly recommended. Otherwise, the lobby area and downstairs offer concessions for snacks and beverages. I love how they have themed drinks paired with the show. There's a couple mocktail options, as well. People line up for show souvenirs and photo op props. All the lines go fairly quickly. The staff is so friendly and helpful. When I won tickets to Hamilton and picked them up at the window, they congratulated me and were genuinely happy I got great seats. The staff handing Playbills and escorting or showing you your seats are so kind. When it's really busy at Sarofim, staff also help guide you to other restrooms on the Zilkha side to avoid crowds. Even while leaving late, there was a gentleman who told a group of young girls waiting for their Uber that they were guests of Hobby and would make sure their ride could drive in the driveway. He even opened the car door for me when I left. I've only waited at the Stage Door once because my friend told me to meet him there after Beauty and the Beast, but it was a cool experience. You can't miss it. There's barricades and a slight crowd. That was the first time I got my Playbill signed in Houston (I've waited in SF for Wicked and in NY for Anastasia.), and the cast came out ready with Sharpies! They were so appreciative of the guests who were waiting. I can't wait for the other shows or singers coming to Houston and will be coming to The Hobby Center for years to come!

I have visited The Hobby Center several times over the years. My most recent visit was to attend the TUTS production of White Christmas. It is a nice theater inside with multi level seating. They offer a full bar (expensive) for theater goers along with snacks during intermissions. There is also a cafe onsite too. Restrooms are on the lower level and can get busy during show breaks. Wow! We came here to see "White Christmas"- such a treat. We are from San Antonio, but we really loved the theater. Kind of reminds us a little bit of the Tobin Center, but much more organized. Parking was better and the theater itself has a better layout and a clean lobby with more sunlight and activities as you wait for the show to start. Theater inside is beautiful. Starry sky is amazing and has comfortable seats. I plan to come back and visit here again!

i have came to this theater twice, one for peter pan the musical and hamiltion, and both of the times were great! when i came for peter pan the viewing angle was not the most plesant from the center gallary, but i just wanted cheaper tickets. the second time i came was when i was gifted tickets to the show and was around left mezzanine. both of the shows were great and the cast were wonderful to hear sing. food is expensive but that was expected coming to a place like this. seats were easy to get to even though both shows were busy. it was a little bit hard to leave after hamilton but it was not that big of a deal. i love this theatre and im definitely returning!

My first time here courtesy of Yelp was to watch the American Psycho musical. We arrived a bit late but valet was readily available. The venue itself is nice with a ticket to the left when you arrive. There are refreshments offered like wine and spirits also. The theatre itself is small but makes you feel as though you are right on stage. The musical was amazing. The actors really put there all in to it. I enjoyed singing along and laughing at the jokes during the play. The staff were very nice when asked any questions like where is the bathroom. My husband and I enjoyed the show and can't wait to come back for another play!

Broadway in Houston starts and finishes here. Great venue for shows, music and other events. However, the Broadway season tickets are great, IF you can't get to New York City. Acoustics are excellent. Staff are always friendly and in a good mood. Definitely recommend this venue for any show. And there's a restaurant inside for pre-show dining.

Zilkha Hall is a very different vibe from Sarofim next door, but it's cozy and I feel like there wouldn't be a bad seat in the house! The staff was very friendly. If you have mobility issues, I'd opt for a seat on the ground level as it would just be easier to get to the restroom & refreshment area. The bathrooms are downstairs. There is an elevator but getting down & back up during intermission would be a pain. Tried uploading a pic from mezzanine center A 108 to show awesome view but unable to make it work. You have a few options for parking. I parked in Theatre District Garage and walked in tunnels, it was easy. There's also valet & a garage attached to the theatre.

I am a season ticket holder so come here often. The staff are friendly and very helpful. You can pre-order your drinks and snacks to be ready during intermission. The bistro sells snacks from candy and chips to meat and cheeses to French macaroons. There is a parking garage behind the theatre. If you have a Lexus, you get complimentary valet parking. I usually park on the street because the garage can be difficult to get out of after the show is over. There are usually police directing traffic before and after Broadway shows. TUFTS shows also use this theatre. There are entrances on the side and front of the building. The have metal detectors inside the entrances as well. They scan your tickets electronically when you enter. The restrooms are on the bottom floor. The lines are long but there are a ton of stalls so it moves really quickly. There are staff placed throughout the building to help direct traffic and ensure traffic flows smoothly.

I love the performing arts and have attended numerous shows at The Hobby Center. Hobby hosts a variety of productions including musicals, plays, dance, music, etc. The majority of shows that I've attended have been Broadway shows. Parking: Nearby garages are $15 for self park. The Hobby Center garage takes cash or credit while the underground garages are card only. If parking in the Hobby Garage, the first 3 levels are reserved for valet (which is $25). If you drive a Lexus, you get complimentary valet parking! It takes awhile to get out of the Hobby garage so be patient. You can also park on the street or the City Hall Annex parking lot across the street. Be sure to read the signs so you don't get a ticket. Security: They have body scanners which expedites the process. They will not search your bag unless the scanner detects something (similar to the scanners at Minute Maid Park). Theaters: I've been going to Hobby for years and never realized that they have two theaters until about a month ago. Sarofim Hall is the large theater where the major Broadway shows are performed. I've sat in each level (orchestra, mezzanine, gallery, theater boxes). Personally I prefer mid orch or front mezz. The theater boxes are nice, but the view is obstructed. There are also some side seats in the orchestra that are obstructed. Zilkha Hall is the small theater. It seats about 500 people and has a more intimate feel. The sound quality is great and I enjoyed the show I saw there last month. Food & Drinks: There's a restaurant inside of the theater called Diana American Grill. I've only eaten at the restaurant once (at the time, it was called Artista). There's also the Grand Lobby Bistro that offers grab and go items. They have a good number of bars/concession stands throughout the theater that sell drinks and snacks. I like that they feature specialty cocktails for each show. I also like that you can preorder your drink so that it is waiting for you at intermission. Drinks are allowed in the theater. If you arrive early, grab a drink, go out on the terrace, and enjoy the view of downtown. Staff: The staff is always very friendly and helpful. I have never had any issues with any of the employees. The Hobby Center is a beautiful theater and Houstonians are very fortunate to have the opportunity to see so many amazing performances.

Going to the theater never disappoints!!! Box 10 on the right with great views of the stage. Easy valet or self parking, amazing seats, friendly staff and of course amazing productions. What's not to love?

We sprung for the orchestra seats. Last time we were at the very top and it was huge improvement although the ones at the top are still ok (not like the theatre in London where I was literally looking on top of the actors heads and was eye level with the catwalks attached to the ceiling)

I came here for the first time to see pretty woman and it was fantastic. I love the way the venue is set up and even if your seats are pretty far up you can still see and enjoy the show. Tip Get there at least 15 minutes before the show because parking can be a pain. Be on time because they will not let you in after the show starts. be aware that if you are parked in the garage, leaving the show will take you at least 20 min just to get out of the garage. read more

Fairly large theatre. Definitely not intimate. If you aren't seated in the lower orchestra, the view won't be that great depending on the show. The theatre itself has nice amenities. I particularly appreciate that they allow you to bring in drinks inside the theatre. There is also a bistro that has a decent selection and a restaurant with balcony seating. The location is great for street parking. There are a few streets close to the theatre so if you allow enough time, snagging street parking is not a hassle. Gorgeous and welcoming on the outside. Attended the Broadway Play Ain't Too Proud about the life and times of The Temptations. What a great play. Wonderful memories of music I grew up with. The Hobby Center was very organized from the time we walked to the front doors till we made it to our seats. We saw our friend, Cheryl Roquemore Smith's daughter Brittany Davis play Mary Wilson of the Supremes, and Johnnie Mae their manager. She was Awesome!!! Very impressed with her performance! We went to see Jason's lyric by Jecaryous Johnson's group. The seats are nice and the play was phenomenal. The only knock is that the flow of traffic inside the building was a bit chaotic. The drinks and snacks in there were terribly overpriced. I dont mind paying something extra due to an event, but let's get a little real about whats being served. read more

I do recommend this place for great musicals and Broadway, but one thing I don't like is that the seats are too high up that when you look down, there are no bar handles for the people to cross over because some people would have phobias to thinking that they were going to fall down I had this And breath problems because I had to walk so many stairs that had my breath. I would recommend people to reserve seats on the first floor because you won't be able to see a great view of the Broadway from the top you'll only be looking at the wall or roof not at the people read more

I came here to watch new jack city, and I was blown away because I had no expectations, and I was thoroughly entertained. The hobby center is clean, has excellent staff, and has an open bar on each floor. Felt I was in a safe environment because of the security detail when coming into the building also. I can't wait to patronize this place again and watch another outstanding play. read more

Went here for HAIRSPRAY on June 6. It was a touring event from their Broadway cast. Such a lovely evening with these great talents. Hobby Center is located in Downtown Houston, so driving around is a bit chaos. Parking also isn't cheap. But I did enjoyed the performance. Bravo to the cast members read more

We saw SHUCKED at the Hobby Center in Sarofim Hall on 11/23/24. It was a good musical with a "heehaw"-type comedy. The show is 3.5 Star and the Venue 1 Star. This was my first time there, and I will NEVER attend another show in Sarofim Hall again, even if it is free. The seats were the worst of any theatre seats anywhere, including nine different Broadway shows in NYC, SF, and London. The Hobby venue is lovely except for the seating comfort and the 30-minute wait to exit the garage. Also try to avoid TicketMaster for tickets. read more

Waited 3 years, paid $300 to see "The Lion King Musical". Four different parties were seated AFTER the show started, each requiring the rows in front of us to stand while people blinded us with their cell phone lights as they scanned the seats. So many years, so much money...and I had to watch the opening "Circle of Life" scene--breathtaking--on Youtube. I wouldn't risk the cost of tickets again knowing that their seating policy is so disastrous. Going to drive to Austin or San Antonio for future shows. read more

So far I enjoyed coming to the Hobby Center, the staff has been decent, good shows and good food options but I had kind of a negative experience the last time. When I went to a show in early August, I had my phone out at one point. An older woman in a yellow shirt on the 6th floor came right next to me almost screaming in my ear saying not to have my phone out, to delete what I had on my phone and that she was going to tell on me. Had me feeling like I was about to get kicked out. Another worker was nicer in her approach to me. Even if I was not supposed to be taking a pic or video, her reaction was a bit much. There were other people pointing their phone to the stage but I guess she was focused on me. read more

The location was easy to get to for us to see Moulin Rouge. We accessed Valet an hour prior to show and had no issues (valet took maybe 10 minutes or so when show ended, so no complaints here). Only thing I would let people know is for my people with the bad hips and knees out there you do have to fight stairs to get to right orchestra on the bottom floor it was more then I thought. Also, the seats are NOT meant for the big bottoms girls. I found it hard to get comfortable, and I'm not really that heavy. Plus, having heels on, I kept hitting the cup holders on the seats. I think the seats could use a bit of an upgrade for sure. The sound and lighting were great throughout the show, and MAJOR shouted out the way they organized the restrooms during intermission. It was such a quick and flawless process that I was amazed at how well it went. read more

Beautiful theater with great acoustics. We have attended several Broadway at the Hobby productions. If you arrive at 6:00 pm for a 7:30 pm show, you have time to relax and grab a drink and a bite to eat from the Grand Lobby Bistro, which offers sandwiches, salads and other nosh. I had been paying $15 to park in the garage until I noticed that Lexus drivers have courtesy valet service - thank you, Lexus dealers of Houston! One criticism - the posted wifi password does not work. read more

Incredible night. I got to see New Jack City as a play. One of my favorite movies growing up. The theater is absolutely beautiful and clean. I believe they have valet parking but I was lucky and found a great parking spot and walked right into the theater. Seats are comfortable. I sat in the front row... that was a little to close for me but an experience. Seems like every seat in the theater is a good seat! read more

It had been many years since I attended an event at Hobby Center. My youngest daughter treated me to a live performance of the Houston Orchestra with Star War, A New Hope movie. The center and performing theater were still functional and beautiful. There were many ushers helping with the seating. My daughter said that were even ushers in the lady's restrooms to keep the line organized. Our two aside seats in the right orchestra box were perfect. There were no seats in front of us to block sight lines and plenty of room to stretch our legs. These two seats were not cheap but well worth the cost. The orchestra performed wonderfully and the live music brought the old movie to live. When leaving after the performance, there were attendants in the parking garage to prevent chaos. Parking garage was next to Hobby Center and the cost was $15. We will check out the 23-24 year schedule and see what musical we like to see. read more

Hobby is not very welcoming. The people who work there are lovely. However, I drive a far distance and tonight was again frustrated by the imperious and very important people which work at Diana where I again can't even get something to drink. They are much too busy. read more

We came to see The Golden Girls for an afternoon performance. We arrived an hour early as recommended but the parking garage was already full so we were directed to the city underground parking garage on a rainy day in Houston! Unfortunately there were no handicap parking spots close to the tunnel to the theater so we had to hike a distance. When we got to the theater lobby is was very small and tightly packed with people waiting for the theater to open. Even though we were told venue would open 90 minutes before curtain it was closer to 15 minutes. Seating was comfortable. Acoustics were good and the sight lines were good. The show was good but not nearly worth the ticket price. When the show was over, there was a mad dash back thru the tunnel to the parking garage. And a traffic jam to get out. And we were told event parking would be $15 but turns out it was over $20. Don't waste your time or money at this venue. The Wortham Theatre, The Alley and Jones Hall also in Houston are far superior facilities. read more

Not a bad seat in this place. Very intimate setting and very clean. A decent variety of adult drinks available at the concession stand. The line for the restroom was crazy long but they manage to run it faster than the chick Fila drive thru. read more

Such a beautiful theatre! My girlfriends and I came to this location on March 2, 2022 to see my gf's favorite Broadway show of all time, Hamilton! When we arrived, we were amazed by how nice this theatre is! The outside was lit up beautifully! When we walk in, the inside is just as beautiful! The staff working was great! They got us through security with no issues! The ushers escorted us to our seats and over all, the atmosphere was amazing! I also appreciate that they were being careful with the pandemic and had all the safety protocols in place! We can't wait to come back in the future for more shows!! read more

Came to see Dear a Evan Hansen on Sunday night Parking: they have self parking for 15 dollars at the nearby garage or you can also Valet for 25 dollar . If i'm not mistaken, those that drive a lexus can valet for FREE. There is also street parking if you are lucky to find some. Acoustics: The sound in there was amazing. It wasn't too loud or too soft. We could hear everything. Venue: Once inside you go through security. As you walk in, right in front of you is will call or if you need to purchase tickets you can. Restrooms are located in the basement. They start seating people at 7 PM when they open the house. Until then you can grab drinks, merchandise, or go outside and get a nice view of downtown & some fresh air. The staff there is very helpful and it was very easy to get in and out of the theatre. Definitely will be returning. read more

Do you suffer from premature clapping? Do you get easily excited to the point that you burst out with uncontrollable laughter? Well I definitely did while at the Hobby Center for Cirque Dreams: illumination. The Hobby Center is a great venue for performances. It's one of the few things that I have been to in downtown. I am looking forward to coming back for Wicked in the summer. Got my tickets early!!! As far as the venue, they offer valet or you can find street parking a couple blocks away. I would suggest dressing up a bit as my friend and I did not know the dress attired and just showed up in jeans and sneakers. They ushers did give us a couple of funny looks but I would too, but give me a break it was my first time here. Once, inside we had seats on the lower section to the right. We were in the double letters but still had a good view of the stage. The audio here is great! The lighting was superb. And the set transitions were seamless. The chairs could be a bit more comfortable and the seating is old movie theatre style so if you have a tall person in front of you, you may be screwed. I'm glad I had a great experience here as this is another night time activity I can add to the rotation. read more

Beautiful, easy to access, and great sound quality... everything about the Hobby Center is first class. I've been to the Hobby Center at least a dozen times mostly for musicals. I've enjoyed the productions, but the actual venue is gorgeous too! A venue should make your enjoyment of the show easy. So, what do I like about the Hobby Center? 1) Easy access: I drive here from Sugar Land and it is conveniently located right off of 45 via the Memorial/Houston Ave exit. I drove there from Sugar Land tonight and it was under 25 minutes door to door. 2) Easy parking: I always park in the below ground theatre district parking across the street ($7). It's easy to get in and out of there and it's just a few steps to the Hobby Center. It's a huge plus to only be stuck in a line to get out for a few minutes. You can also park on the street, in the Hobby center garage (don't because the line to get out can take forever) or valet (always a good choice if you drive a Lexus because it's free). 3) Great acoustics: Teaching high school, I have been to several amateur musicals and plays where I couldn't hear a word of dialogue. I have also been to the Wortham, Jones Hall, the Alley, etc.... And I do think that the Hobby Center (the newest of that group) has the best sound around. 4) Good line of sight: I always worry that if I'm not sitting in the first ten rows that I won't be able to see well. Well, at the Hobby Center, most seats are awesome! I sat in right orchestra FF tonight and it was a wonderful view of the stage. I would never sit on the third level again (I did once for a Christmas rockettes show and I couldn't see much of anything). I think every seat in the orchestra and mezzanine are good. 5) Attentive Ushers: Who wants to spend a wad of cash to have some kid ruin your evening or have some people taking photos blind you. I have been impressed with the diligence of the ushers. I have seen them swoop down on people taking flash photography, people unwrapping annoying candies, or small children making noise. This is a great place to see a show. It's my first choice in the greater Houston area. Watch for a shooting star on the ceiling of Sarofim Hall. Treat yourself you a meal at Artista before the show. read more

The Hobby Center is such a great venue - easily accessible, large enough to hold a Houston crowd but not so large that you feel like you are in a swarm of people, and beautifully decorated. Home to both Broadway Across America and TUTS, there is surely a production for you and your family to enjoy. I have seen numerous shows here and there really isn't a bad seat in the house for viewing; of course, the closer you are, the better you can see the facial expressions and details of the costumes/sets. read more

The theater is amazing and is a reasonable size not big not small the one in NY is way bigger but I enjoyed the show Wicked with my family and friends my only concerns are the serving area they serve alcohol and is very dangerous because people can have problems and distractions sad to see that they don't sell actual meals for the people only chips, candy or drinks of course it's expensive but movie meals are better but hey, if you are looking for broadways to see with the family this is the place read more

This was my second time at the Hobby. This theatre is stunning! They typically bring really captivating, compelling, artistic events here! If you sit in the boxes you may have a slightly obstructed view. So far this has been my preference for seating as it only accommodates seating for about 5-6 people. I've also sat Center stage (orchestra) and those were decent seats as well. Hobby has snacks and beverages you can purchase at concessions). I can't wait to see what they have in store for the fall! read more

Came here Josh Groban's concert in Dec 2015. Hobby Center's Sarofim Hall has some amazing acoustics. I am so glad that Groban chose a concert venue rather than some sports stadium. The last notes of his song "Anthem" before intermission were glorious and reverberated brilliantly in this intimate space. Sports stadiums can stuff far more people, but the intimate venue really made it feel like a personal night of Josh Groban and his fans. The ceiling depicts a beautiful Texas starry night sky, complete with shooting stars every five min. The venue looks like those grand Broadway theaters with sweeping and gorgeous colors and design throughout. Parking was free for this concert. Not sure if it's a regular occurrence...but it was nice not to wait in line for people to pay the parking and just zoom outta there. It was raining that day, but the parking lot has covered walkways to the main buildings, so don't worry about getting wet. The building also connects to the underground Houston tunnels, so it's easy access and shelter from rain/heat for all the office dwellers who can come by after work to catch a show. If coming for a Sunday show, you could also park on the streets as street parking is free on Sundays. I think once you're in the main building, there are lots of staff and volunteer ushers to guide you where you need be. Restrooms are clean and lines move fast. Exiting the venue afterwards is also super fast esp if you exit by the stairs that lead straight to the ground floor exit. It's a venue with wonderful acoustics/design and professional staff who have meticulously prepared a streamlined spectacular end to end experience. read more

This place is truly amazing. Different seat each time but all are really good. The experience is one of a kind. The staff and the volunteers are there to help you find you way, which is not always easy. Sure, the drinks and snacks are overpriced but not when compared to a movie theater or amusement park. The place is beautiful and simply being in downtown Houston feels special I took the 5 of us to Elf December 2019 and then just yesterday saw The Jersey Boys. I cannot wait until things start back up after COVID restrictions are lifted. read more

Enjoyed Opening Night of The Wizard of Oz at the Hobby Center Tuesday night, my first time at this venue. The theater itself is large, but not huge, and set up well. There are many aisle breaks, so that people in the middle don't have to walk forever to get out, which is nice. We were on the Mezzanine level off to one side, but even with the angle, the view was pretty good. All the staff we encountered were friendly. Extra bonus, our seats were right by an exit that led us out right near the parking garage, so we were some of the first out-as I drove out, there was a huge line for the parking elevators so I know we were lucky. Only issues were that the seats were a little tight and not super comfortable, and there are a lot of stairs (and usually us women are wearing heels at the theater). I would definitely see something here again...have my eye on some Book of Mormon tickets. read more

What a great night! Decided to come home for the week (spend too much time at my job in Michigan :( ) and started looking for shows just a week ago. Discovered "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" playing here, booked tickets for last nights show (Feb 25) and booked them on Feb 19. So lucky - couldn't believe it - 2 front row seats! So two GREAT seats for a wonderful, hilarious musical. The house was sold out so how I was so lucky with the seats I can't fathom - but the place is small enough that there can't be a bad seat. All local talent, live orchestra, just a wonderful night. The only improvement would be a bar area so that I could actually get a drink in the 15 minute intermission. Super convenient, just of I-45, we were running tight on time - valet at the door for $20. Houston is blessed with an amazing theater district! Opera later in the week!! read more

When I found a group of women who loved the theater as much as I do, we formed a club. Hobby Center, the theater under the stars is a guilty little pleasure of ours. There isn't a bad seat in the house and we have sat everywhere. Wait. There is those seats in the back near the stairs with the handrails in your line of view. If it's a choice of straining my neck or missing the show. I will see the show. Also, once you have the seats in the first few rows, where you can see the performers freckles, the gaps in their teeth, the spit come out of their mouth; you will never want to sit in the back again. Let me reiterate, if I must pick between sitting in the back or missing the show. I will see the show. We used to have to buy a sippy cup to drink in the theater. Our club is usually pretty good of reminding each other to bring our cups, but sometimes we all forgot. Some of us had several cups. Recently they changed their policy. You no longer have to have the sippy cup. Since I put no effort in finding that darn cup packed with the only belongings left to me by Harvey. It was delightful to hear they trusted me, a light weight, to consume an alcoholic beverage in the theater. Frank Young, founder and director died this year, just short from them celebrating 50 years of performances. Still I look forward to the 50th anniversary and hope to buy season tickets. It's on our Musical Club bucket list. I recommend you come. You will laugh, cry, sing, and sometimes dance in your chair! You will have an enjoyable time. There isn't a bad show, okay there was one (out of many) where one of our girls decided to go home at intermission. The rest of us stayed to laugh at the horrid thing. We all decided if we must pick.... We will see the show! read more

Hobby center sucks. I went out of my way to buy excellent seats in center mezzanine, front row. But watch where you pick your tickets, as the seating is reversed from the "seating chart" to where you actually pick yoiur seats. Why the hell do I want to purposely choose two seats at $144 each right in front of the sound room, at the very back of center mezzanine?? Very disappointed!! read more

What a beautiful theater! Three levels and very nice. Getting there via uber was easy--they have an easy drop/off, pick-up system--and it only cost me $6/each way! I was concerned about the bathroom situation at intermission (there's only one for each gender), but the handled the crowd just fine. We saw The Lion King and loved it! A great venue in the theater district of downtown Houston. Thank you for a fun night. read more

We were not happy. The ticket agent at the front notified the manager who came to talk to us, get some clarification on what had happened and see what he could do to remedy the situation. He (regretfully we did not get his name) went above and beyond to make us happy. He had seats and a table moved into an available space, provided ticket passes and numerous other compensation for the missed step in ticket rescheduling. We had a wonderful experience watching the movie in comfort with good food and spot on service. We will definitely be returning. Any establishment that provides such high quality service deserves much support!

My only advice would be to NOT take babies or children who aren't capable of sitting still and listening to the show. The first half of the show was interrupted by a couple allowing their baby and toddler to continue to whine and repeatedly ask for her mama. After a while, the dad finally left with his baby. Naturally, it was only after attracting some attention from others that the situation became evident. We adore babies/children; however, this was not the place for them. I blame the parents for being self-centered and ignoring their baby by allowing her to whine and waiting until almost the end of the first half of the show to excuse themselves out. I wish the staff would have noticed and stepped in. They're usually vocal when it comes to food or pictures and should also pay attention to whining babies.

Parking in the adjacent garage is $15. Next time I will get there at least an hour prior to get lower level parking. We arrived 15 minutes prior to show time and it took us at least 10 minutes to park and walk into the performance center. And we waited for 25 minutes just to get out of the parking garage when the show was over. Lesson learned. Everyone was dressed from casual (boo) to dressy/business casual (ladies in sundresses and some had heels or little sandals and men were in slacks and dress shirts or polo shirts and some men had suits or jackets or just a buttoned down collared shirt and khakis.) Personally, I dont like to go see a performance and see people in shorts and t shirts especially on a Saturday night performance, It runs the gamut in case you're wondering "how should I dress?" Intermission offered a full bar and snacks and candy. Tickets for our seating area were $128 pp next time I'll sit closer and pay more. Overall we had a fun time!

I've been enjoying going to opening preview night of each of these shows, there's something really different about seeing the first live performance for each production. Seeing the directors and producers all watching their hard work come to life, the roaring standing ovation. It's a great place to be at! I had great seats right in center,but really the venue is so intimate there is not a bad seat in the house. The play Plumshuga: The Rise of Lauren Anderson. I believe this was the last performance of the show. Shes a Houston icon. It was a story of her life, told thru Houston Ballet dancers and other amazing actors. It was authentic, and showed a black woman's plight of becoming one of the best dancers in the US, her perilious journey through addiction, and her life now. It was centered and focused on her voice, and it was beautiful story that should be heard by many Americans, not just the black community. Bravo Lauren Anderson!

No way to prove I didn't get what I paid for so no way to recoup my money. First time to this venue and first time something like this has happened. Too bad. Doubt I will be back. I know it shouldn't be a deal-breaker, but the carelessness with people's time and money is ridiculous.

You can reserve your tickets 10am on Fridays on their website however tickets go FAST! I prefer the lawn it's space for my kids to run around and we can spread out on a blanket and bring food, drinks and snacks. SMOKING IS PROHIBITED! Which one guy on Saturday decided to break this rule. Lawn chair are permitted to use. I prefer Friday night events as opposed to Saturday nights because Saturdays are CROWDED. Also parking can be a nightmare. However it's great family fun. There are restrooms available they also sell snacks and beverages (I bought a bottle of soda for $4!! Definitely bring your own food and drinks)

I can only assume that most of the renovations were behind the scenes in the theater itself because the outside left me wanting! Firstly, there were some nice improvements like trees. They did try to put in some plants, but I have to say that was the biggest disappointment. It looked like someone had just thrown some random plants around those trees in. It seemed like a very amateurish job. The second big disappointment was they have this huge Miller sculpture sign on the top of the hill where people sit to watch shows. People completely cover that hill during major events and that big monstrosity is only going to keep people from being able to see the show, not to mention that I'm sure some kids are going to try to climb that thing so it won't just be an obstruction, it will be a potential safety hazard. If they had to put it up at all,, they should've put it at the base of the hill on the back side. It will still be visible from Herman Park Drive. Other than those things I can't really see that much improvement. I love going to Miller! My one big suggestion is to take that sign off the hill before someone gets hurt. And there's probably going be a ton of complaints because of the obstruction of the view.

The atmosphere here was very relaxed with so much Black art adorning the walls. There were also affordable concessions (chips, candy bars, and soda) -- all for $3. Before the show started, the Director, Ms Eileen Morris, was so welcoming and acknowledged all who had decided to patronize this production. She made sure to especially acknowledge any folks who had traveled from as far as Norway and as close as Galveston, and any birthdays as well. I must say it was extremely cold in there... I'm assuming b/c of all of the warm stage overhead lights. It wasn't as chilly outside that night either. Nonetheless, th otherwise warm and personableness made for a relaxed and familial atmosphere before we witnessed the retelling of The Bluest Eye, a harrowing and tragically youthful story. I look forward to returning to the Ensemble Theatre to support more of their productions that center Black storytelling and culture.

Hubby did enjoy a nice cold beer served in a frosty glass, and that was perfect. Dinner was actually pretty good. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the lobster mac and cheese was tasty, although there wasn't much lobster to be found. Now for the theater itself... The seats are definitely showing their age and are getting a little rickety. Service was almost nonexistent. The one bright spot was a food runner who kindly pointed us to the QR code for the menu and even offered to bring us a printed menu. He was great. We ordered our movie snacks, but that's where things really went downhill. The popcorn was as stale as stale can be, the M&M's tasted old and a little funky, and somehow my club soda came with about four ice cubes and wasn't even very refreshing. The movie itself was good, and we still enjoyed having a much-needed date night together. Overall, though, it's sad to see this theater slipping because it used to be the place to go. I really hope they can turn things around. In the meantime, we'll be on the hunt for a new favorite theater. I'd love to hear everyone's recommendations!

It has been years since I watched IMAX here. They change the entrance for the theatre, you don't go…read moredown the stair anymore. You just go to the old exit door it make it easier for disable people like me! I also forget just how big the screen is until I sit down and relax to enjoy the show. The show is always good. But when you think IMAX you think of those cheesy nature videos, but that is not the case anymore, the Wortham IMAX plays recent movies too. I came here to watch Harry Potter. I must admit it's a different type of crowd, a much more mature crowd, and the children that do come are more well behaved or with their parents. They are not free to roam like at the other theaters. Not a bite any parenting...but I'm JUS SAYIN'! Plus after the movie you can check out the museum!

The building has clean restrooms which is always a plus, though some stalls don't close all the way. We've tried popcorn here which was buttery and so tasty, and I appreciate the extra butter you can add yourself! All the staff have been friendly. I love this place and would highly recommend it to anyone. If you're seeing a show at Sarofim- honestly, don't bother paying the extra money for seats up front because any seat in that house is amazing. If you're buying seats for a show at Zilkha- you definitely want anything on the mezzanine. read more
