Love this place....... But HATE they never have enough cashiers, lines are always 10 or more people deep!

(HOBBY LOBBY MODESTO) I want to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT TO, Nate & Amanda in Custom Frames!!!! You guys did an amazing framing job on my two 5D art bead paintings!!! I love how excited Nate was when I told him I had these two 5D art paintings coming to get framed when I was having one of my other 5D arts being framed. It only took 2years to bring them in, but their done!!! These are just two of the many 5D art paintings I had done at Hobby Lobby's Custom Frame Dept., in MODESTO. I usually have Nate help me and he is so customer service friendly and so is Amanda who helped my daughter get her College Stall, tassel and cord framed. Amanda was very knowledgeable and it shows because the frame looks so amazing. Modesto Hobby Lobby is always the better store. If you're making a choice to have your stuff custom framed I can only advise you to go see Nate, Amanda, Vern or any of the people in Custom Frames. read more

Just go to Michael's. Today I called and asked if they had a certain product in stock, and after being transferred and put on hold 3 times, I was told they did. Great! I live on the other side of town, so Hobby Lobby is the closest craft/art store, so I head over. Turns out they carry the BRAND of the product I asked about. Not the product itself, and they've taken most brands off the shelf aside from their own Master's Touch brand for art supplies. Not even Strathmore and Canson, which even Target and Walmart sell. They sell Prismacolor, but I noticed they had bootleg product. I wouldn't trust this store with the time of day. Blick and Jackson's Art are great online stores. Shop there or Michael's. read more

I've spent a lot of money there. I mean a lot. And after my experience this morning on December 14, 2021, returning lines of 15+ people and anemic blonde twinkie looking manager just walking by with one employee at the registers just made me sick. Never going back. Also.... I had 2 products on the receipt that they said weren't on it. Keep the product... no refund. but I'd rather take a hit than go back to that place. read more

The reason I don't go here is because they're full of HYPOCRITES! My car was hit in their parking lot so I kindly called to see if I can get footage and they said they don't work all the way then put me on hold for 10 min to talk to a manager until I called from another phone and they answered immediately and claimed the cameras work perfectly fine and they can only give footage to Modesto PD. After calling her out the the girl from the first call transparently told me they don't work she denied it. Christian company hiring liars. read more

I'm really disappointed they are not doing the sale on the canvases anymore. It's going on 3 weeks. I spend so much on supplies. This is the problem with these chain businesses. They get greedy. If you are a crafty person or wish you were, a visit to Hobby Lobby just may be in order. Recently opened in Modesto, the store features lots of supplies for your crafting projects. While I had previously never visited a Hobby Lobby, I had often heard positive reviews about the merchandise and selection. The store is well organized into sections depending on your needs and interests. Items for scrapbooking, needlepoint and sewing were available. My favorite section was the seasonal/holiday decor area. So many cute Halloween and fall decorations! I appreciated the fact that they had a little something for every decor style. Western, rustic and glam oh my! Experiencing sensory overload is natural. I wish I would have more time to browse, but I was on a time constraint. Hopefully I'll have more time to take a peek at their wares soon! read more

Personally, I'd give it one star. I love craft stores as much as I love It's A Small World. My wife, on the other hand, could live here. There's a Hobby Lobby in SE Texas, and she shopped there a lot before we got married, and when we come to Motown, I try to make it a point to stop in here just for her. I guess it's a chick thing . . . Why? It's HUGE, and has more crafty items than I knew existed. The space's previous incarnation was a Mervyn's, and it was big then, so I'm impressed that they were able to fill the store. Yet it doesn't feel cramped. You have a lot of room to maneuver, and the layout is nice. There are two similar stores within five miles of where we live, but Hobby Lobby beats them easily. If you need ideas, this is a good place to get inspiration. Just leave the credit card put away until you make your selection. I can see shoppers coming out with twice as much stuff as they intended, after having spent twice as much. I did NOT see a sign "Your husband called, you can buy whatever you want", but I wouldn't be surprised if it's here. Budget? What household budget? On a side note, they've been in the news for the whole govt-controlled health care debacle. These demands that all companies help fund activities that Hobby Lobby's owners, being Christians, find is against their convictions. I'm with Hobby Lobby on this; if a company wants to fund activities or organizations, or not do so, that's their choice, and it's our choice whether or not to patronize the stores because of their choices; keep the bureaucrats out of it! So for us, it's a place for my hunny to hang out (and $hop) for several hours, giving me time to grab a burger or take a nap ;-) read more

I'm kinda sad and disappointed that the reviews are so low on this page... Probably just a bunch of Karens tryin to get a discount... Honesty, don't go by the reviews, go drive by the store- the packed parking lot and the wrap around lines should give you a clear indication of how amazing and wonderful this place is. You can't just go for a quick trip, they have everything you could imagine so you end up getting sucked into every aisle. The staff is also super friendly and if you can't find what you're looking for they will help you look or order it. Seriously, make the trip, you'll thank me later read more

Went there a couple weeks ago for mini aluminum pie pans. I expected a lot of effort finding it from all the negative reviews here, but no. It was packed with customers, so I asked a floorworker named Elizabeth, and she took me right to it, then she even pointed me to the cashiers. It was a long wait in line, as reviewers here warned, but that was expected. I'd go back again. I suspect most of them that complain expect a full service experience from them working for minimum wage...yeah, not gonna happen. read more

I went to have to photos framed. They were both very important to me and the woman at the framing department went above and beyond her duty. She was warm and welcoming, very knowledgeable and very helpful. The prices are incredible and when I picked them up I couldn't have been happier. I drove a half hour to get to Hobby lobby at 9 AM and they are having exclusive shopping for 60 and over and it is only posted on the front door. The lady stopping everyone from entering that is not 60 just advised me to "go get a Starbucks, it's not a big deal". The lady at the door also advised me to call corporate which I did. It seems to be a store by store decision as has nothing to do with corporate. Customer service called the store manager and she said I could come in and shop if I wanted to but I've watched at least 30 cars get turned away so I feel bad about doing that. Worst customer service. Since I'm on a roll here I'll also add, can hobby lobby please get scanners in their stores? It is so ridiculous to check out with someone hand keying in everything and discounts. Takes forever to get out of there. read more

I'm obsessed with this place. Wherever I'm shopping for an apartment or picking up a gift, I always come by to see what they have. There is plenty of parking and the store is huge, so you shouldn't ever experience trouble with crowds (until maybe the checkout line). They ALWAYS have sales. Picture frames and ceramic plates were 50% off when I was last in. I highly recommend stopping in here if you need anything crafty. My eldest daughter decided we needed a Fairy Garden and so we headed to Hobby Lobby, which I've never been to this location because I was afraid of addiction. This store is HUGE and has a gazillion things I would LOVE to have. Thus why I have taken so long to go inside. I have been to other locations so I knew what to expect. We walked in and I asked someone where they had their Fairy Garden supplies and they let me know it was past the Floral Department. We headed to the area and found some goodies. We left with more than expected since my Mom was in tow, she likes to spoil her Grandbaby. I'm sure we will be back for more houses and other Fairy items. Thanks Hobby Lobby! read more

Rudest workers ever here! Is it a requirement to work here that you must have a nasty attitude? Was helped by an older white woman with glasses and the worst attitude I've encountered. Came here when it first opened and found rude workers but thought it could have been opening shakes. NOPE! Both times I've came to this location the workers are snobby and so rude to customers. I have been in this store multiple times and no matter what time of day I can never check out of the store in under 20 minutes. The lines are horrendous and the checkout system is horrible. Today the lines were too the back where the aisles start and so I picked a line that just happened to be the refunds and exchanges line except that you can't tell that from the back of the store. Every other line had two registers going and people that got in line after me checked out before me. I stood in line for over 40 minutes before getting to a register. When I told a manager how long the line was he just said "ok" and walked away. We read more

Why on earth does this place have a low rating? Everything pretty much goes on sale once a month and the 40% off coupon is awesome.

This morning I looked up the operating hours for hobby lobby and it states it opened at 9am. After dropping my son off at school at 8:20, my daughter and I waited in the parking lot from 8:25 to 8:50. We then went at stood in front of the store while the associate (later identified as Marissa) saw us and came to make sure the door was closed, at 9am she opened the door and looked right at us and said "the store is open from 9-10 for seniors only, you can return at 10am to do your shopping." She immediately turned and walked away. A man came out to make sure only seniors were allowed in and I asked him to call her back out. I told her that it was extremely rude of her to make us wait when she could have told us at 8:50 when she saw us standing out there. She said absolutely nothing in response, no apology or anything. There is no signage on the door stating that it was time for seniors only. Way to waste my time. Marissa is you see this I hope no one treats you or your family they way you acted today. read more

on the internet they are posted that they open at 9 a.m. hours may very i show up at 9:49 and am informed i have to leave cause i am not over 60. they need to post that on their hours or maybe make an exception because only 9 minutes remained and i did not know and my time is valuable too. instead i get this snotty 20 something year old telling me i have to leave and its on the door...... what has happened to customer service? why are these young people allowed to be so rude and who is giving them that kind of authority when they clearly are not mature enough to be sensible about it? it must be nice to not need your customers business i cant imagine abusing my customers like that Ever in 20 years of customer service in retail and other industries. there is never a situation that calls for embarrassing your customer and asking them to leave your store. these people are out of their minds. you just don't treat people this way. read more

Hobby Lobby is one of my favorite stores. However, I ran in on Sat morning on my way home from the gym to grab two bottles of paint for school. I checked the hours to make sure Hobby Lobby was open. When I arrived at 9:40, an associate stopped me at the door to send me out because 9-10 is reserved for ages 60+. No where on store information did this information appear, I agree with offering seniors a safe shopping time. Just please simply add it to your hours listed online to save customers wasted time. read more

I love Hobby Lobby! There's a wide variety of yarn and I like to crochet so that's a bonus. I also enjoy the vast amount of frames anytime I need one Hobby Lobby is my first stop. Customer service is great but the lines are almost always long so expect to be there a while. Overall this is the number one spot in Modesto for all your crafting needs. Also, don't forget to pull up their 40% off coupon (off one reg priced item) on your smartphone, you just show it at the register. I just do not get this store...too much stuff - nothing of quality - no one and I mean no one to provide any service. I counted 3 people who looked right at me and walked away...whatever. It's ok, if they do not know that customers can go elsewhere they can learn the hard way. I too saw staff standing around talking to each other instead of offering assist. was thinking of giving them another chance until today I see their position on women's (and family) health issues are not well thought out either....I'm done. Went here for the first time the other day with my boyfriend and his mom to check out their selection of RC airplane stuff. They had almost nothing... tried to ask for help got redirected to someone different because the first person knew nothing about what we needed help with. When we finally got help, very unfriendly and short with his answers. Ended up buying a paint-by-number and getting the hell out of there. The wait in line was super long, and the girl at the register seemed offended when my boyfriends' mom wanted to confirm she didn't scan an item twice. I went in to hobby lobby yesterday there no customer service and when I would call for someone to answer questions and they would just walk away like that didn't hear me and when I would look at them in there face then they would tell me there should be working in that Department so when this lovely lady took me to go call some one they would take 30 min to actually they would have call them more then 2 times to times to many I work in retail for 10 years and I never experience in to a store trying to find help when customers come in to your stop greet everyone that come in the store and if you see a customer and they seem to be struggling should be saying how can I help you no one works together as a team all coworkers would have a bad attitude when you ask them i felt I like I was bothering them my daughter was waiting for someone a stock person to help with a tables to the front and we waited again for 20 more so so finally this young girl that wasn't working in that department she came and pick up the table and kindly to my daughter name and said it will be up front when your ready. out of all the employees there was only one that had attitude of kindness. Look around and have so many sigh that say be happy , be Kind if this company is owned By Christians you think it would be a pleasant experience it was my first at hobby lobby and it was not a very good experience to many long lines having that many cashier and there was only 2 cashiers running a business like that especially retail can you accommodate your customers as possible so they have a beautiful experience in a church on store specially if it's Christian and I love everything that's in there beautiful stuff don't get me wrong but the customer service is awful horrible awful that is my experience at hobby lobby read more

I've been spending a lot of time in Hobby Lobby lately. My husband and I just bought our first home so your location in Modesto, CA is usually the first place I'll go to for anything I need...or don't need and just really really want because it's pretty. Whenever I need baking supplies, birthday cards, gift bags, or something cute to put on my walls I'll make a trip all the way out to Hobby Lobby from my home in Manteca. What keeps me coming back to Hobby Lobby versus stopping at Tj Maxx, Homegoods, or Pier One is the outstanding customer service I'm always provided with. Whenever I'm looking for something or ready to check out, the employees are more than happy to assist me with whatever I need and keep a smile on their face. However, your management system in your Modesto, California store could probably use some serious adjusting. Last night after dinner, my husband and I went to Hobby Lobby to grab a couple shadow boxes, look at curtains, and grab a few other random things for our house. He was looking for a specific kind of hook, and since the store is so large he was having a hard time locating them. A gentlemen then stopped and asked if we needed any help. My husband explained what he was looking for the best he could. The employee cracked a few jokes and talked with us while we looked, which was honestly a treat; good customer service is hard to come by these days, but Hobby Lobby is always great. The employee helping us looked for the hook where he thought it would he, and since it wasn't there, he told us to hang tight for a second so he could go ask someone. He came back after no more than a minute and grabbed my husband while I looked around at all of the things I wanted to buy. My husband came back to where I was at with exactly what he needed and mentioned how nice this employee was. I agreed, but while we were talking, a loud, shrill voice echoing throughout the isles of your store caught our attention. It was the manager, who we identified as being named Connie, yelling at the gentleman that was just helping us. "Yeah but it should not take you 3 hours to sweep. It's 7:30pm and you still need to do the rest of this side of the store and the restrooms!" She yelled. "Yeah I'm really sorry. I've been helping customers as I go along..." he started, but wasn't able to finish before night manager Connie cut him off and said, "Yeah well sometimes you just need to tell customers "'its over there"' " and made a gesture with her hand to indicate she was pointing instead of taking the customer to the item they're looking for. The employee, clearly embarrassed, apologized and continued sweeping. Here is my problem with this: 1) This awful woman was yelling SO loud at this employee that everyone stopped what they were doing (including customers) and looked at what was going on. Public humiliation over sweeping a floor isn't a very professional management technique, wouldn't you say? 2) She screamed at him for helping customers (us) which made us feel terrible. 3) She screamed at him for helping customers and then proceeded to tell him that helping us is basically less important than sweeping the floor. 4) She was so loud that my husband and I interjected and told her the employee was helping us, to which she replied, "okay" and walked away. 5)You NEVER just point and tell a customer "It's over there" and point. Customer service is always supposed to come first when you work in retail or food service, but Connie is completely convinced that getting the bathroom swept is more important than having happy shoppers than come back to your store time and time again. Every employee I asked about this manager, Connie, seemed extremely uncomfortable to be giving me any information about her which tells me your employees are afraid of her and I can see why; she's awful. Just because Connie's plastic name tag says "Manager" on it does not give her the right to publicly embarrass and scream at her employees for helping your paying customers. Sweeping the floor should not be a priority over helping me. She clearly needs to be humbled and sent to a training class or two about how to properly run a team in a retail store. However, like I said before, the other employees at your store in Modesto, California are always great. They go above and beyond to help me and I do appreciate it. The customer service at this store is what keeps me coming back and I'd like to keep it that way. read more

First time there...fairly new store so nice and clean. Pretty good sales on the Christmas stuff and got a 40% off coupon from their website before I went. They don't give them out at the store (people in front of me in the line were NOT happy about that), so make sure you take one with you. I was disappointed in their scrapbook section. I expected a lot more. Not much on sale, and a lot of old stickers and paper packs. Fabic selection was overall small - but nice stuff at good prices. Some pretty prints for $6.99/yd and on sale 30% off. Staff seems nice - although checking out was a PITA...what big chain store doesn't have scanners??! They have to input each item one by one. I had a very competent salesperson however. The store (all the stores in the chain) are closed on Sunday. Since I was visiting from SF I would have been upset to find that out once I got there. Not a big deal, but surprising in these days of stores open late. Just FYI before you go! read more

I kind find almost anything I need for bead work, drawing, crochet, holiday decorating and home accents. The staff has always been pleasant. Most of the time they ask if I need help finding anything. I like that they are not too pushing in offering assistance. Sometimes I just spend time looking at all the neat items just to see what they have and get ideas. I LOVE Hobby Lobby. They only have them in the midwest so I was beyond excited when I learned they opened one in Modesto. I have a friend that likes to make the 45 minute drive with me so its so worth it. They have a huge selection of scrapbooking/cardmaking stuff.
