Ramon's was the second place I tried and both gave me comparable estimates for new leather straps - $65! That's actually more than the bag costed, but since it's a set, I decided to suck up the cost and have it done. Ramon's has good customer service, they gave me a reasonable date for when the work would be completed and they did a good job with the straps. I didn't care for having to pay in cash vs. being able to use my credit card - but aside from that, I'd say overall it was good.

I looked on yelp and found this business, gave them a call and brought them in that day. The owner did such an incredible job at fixing the shoes. I wish I could have taken before pictures, but I did take after ones. I am so beyond happy, he also got them done in a very reasonable time. Thanks so much for fixing my shoes. I have tried to support the business twice over the last year and have left disappointed each time. First, I sought a repair on a boot sole. Granted, the boots are about 20 years old but they are high-end, super comfy and the simple sole repair has been done once before - albeit at my go-to downtown. I thought I would try a local biz and avoid the trip. The older cobbler smoked me over real good before getting on to the estimate, which was nearly 60% higher than what I had been quoted over the phone by my go-to, which regularly repairs high-end items. So I declined and returned downtown. Several months later, I returned to S&S for a shoe shine. One person before me was getting a shine; seven other gentlemen and a mail lady engaged in "shop talk" and flirting. Harmless and even fun, until I rose to pay for the service. I asked "How much?", and all chatter and yelling stopped. An indirectly disparaging comment was made by one of the guys and the others laughed. I paid for the service and left, vowing to never return. It struck me that this little "jewel" of a shop is enclosed in a very restrictive bubble and its patrons are perhaps largely regulars. If someone is neither recognized nor fits into their approved box, they are made to feel unwelcome and/or exorbitantly charges. Unfortunately, it has not moved with the times or learned some of the basic business best practices such as market comparisons. It's unfortunate for them because if the repair quality is adequate, they have lost out. I am a shoe FANATIC!

I dropped off a pair of UGG Adirondack boots (paid $250), which I've had for about 7 years. The…read morethread had began to unravel at the front of the boots where the feet bends while walking. So, I decided to have them repaired. My boyfriend also decided to have the heels on two pair of dress shoes replaced/reinforced. The total for my boots and his two shoes, $80. My boots were $48, and his shoes were $16 each. Yes, ridiculous and they required a $40 deposit and they do not accept credit or debit cards. Most likely to skim on taxes (hide money) and also to not pay the merchant expense for credit card machines. My boyfriend went to pick up my boots and his shoes and what you see in the photos is the absurdity that this business considered a satisfactory and well repaired job of my boots. The lack of craftsmanship with the repair of my boots was beyond ridiculous (see attached photos). When I dropped off the boots, there was no discussion regarding the thread color that would be used for the restitching, nor was there a discussion that the stitching should be tight as to have the repair unnoticeable. The original stitching was black, so why would a tan color thread be used for the restitching???? I assumed that I was dealing with professionals who knew their craft, so I did not make it a point to TELL them how to do THEIR job. Clearly, they did that sloppy ass work and considered themselves done. If they were in Lincoln Park, Lakeview or the South Loop, the work would not be shoddy and the prices wouldn't be excessive. Annoyed, I took the boots back and noted my dissatisfaction with the repair, which was completely ludicrous to think a sensible person would wear the boots with the light color thread and ridiculously wide stitching. The girl who checks in the items for repair and randomly charge African Americans whatever the voices in her head tells her to charge, writes out a statement (disclaimer) on the ticket about the stitching will come undone after I wear them (see photo). Oh, really? Almost $50 for stitching to come undone? Okay.. That'll be the last time I'll ever patronize this place and proceed with caution if you decide to let them repair anything.

I bought…read moreheels for $20 and needed a simple repair and she said the repair would cost $15 than I came back to get it done and she changed the price to $20 and wouldn't honor the price she had gave me only a couple days before because she says the price of her equipment "went up" she had such a bad attitude. So I went around the block to Fernando's Shoe Repair on South Kedzie Ave and they fixed the heel for only $10 and did a great job! Never going back to Green Oak Shoe Repair.
