I get my shoe lifts done at Fernando's, and the quality is incredible. I've tried different cobblers in the past, but Fernando's work is by far the best. The lifts hold really well--nothing comes loose--and he even puts the original sole back on, which most cobblers don't do. My shoes look amazing every time. What they can do to shoes is amazing! I bought a pair of shoes, knowing they were too high and would hurt my feet. They built a platform on the bottom so that I could wear them comfortably; exceeded my expectations! It was definitely worth the money spent. read more

I found out about Fernando's on TikTok, when a woman was raving about the quality of his work when he extended the calf for her boots. I was looking for someone to make repairs and put some finishing touches on a leather bomber that I had cut the sleeves off of. Once I learned they were located on the south side of Chicago, I found them on Yelp and raced over. They were extremely professional and extremely polite. Just a note, his work is rated as exceptional and the weight is about 4 to 6 weeks to pick up your item, depending on the complexity of the repair. They do require at least a 50% deposit, which I did not mind and I look forward to updating this review with pictures when the job is complete because he has been known to go above and beyond. read more

I had a vintage purse strap repaired, heel tips replaced, and an elastic strap repaired on a buckle. All items were leather & high quality. The service was up front, transparent, & helpful. She gave me a price& the date available for pick up before I committed to the service. Pricing for repairs is not a cheap, but for all the craftsmanship & expertise- it is very worth it for favorites & high quality items. I will start with saying that I have brought this bag for repair at Fernando's before and it was a stellar job, so now even though I live out of state I waited until I was back in Illinois to bring this bag back. I was told the repair would take two weeks. Over two months later the back finally gets shipped to me, I just received it, and I am absolutely shocked. The craftsmanship is terrible. The stitches are not straight nor even. I was charged 60 dollars for this and waited months for the bag and it looks terrible. I will be fair and say that I called and they told me to return the bag and they would redo it free of charge, but I already waited two months for it the first time and live across the country and will have to ship it back and risk it taking another couple of months just to come back looking terrible again. Used for 25+ years to service Armani, Gucci, Cole Haan, etc. shoes/boots, backpacks... Never a problem and referred to a lot of people over the decades until repairman actually saw me one day during a drop off. Suddenly, the customary repair price to half-sole a pair of boots that had been done by him twice nearly doubled. When I inquired why, I was told, "Take it or leave it" by him via the young lady at the counter. I was shocked but took my boots and left to process what had just happened when it occurred to me that after ALL these years, the cobbler and I had never directly met. I'm Black. read more

First time trying out a cobbler and I was surprised they almost refused 2 out of the 3 shoes I brought in citing that the leather was "too dry" for one pair and "too dry and too thin" for another. I guess the cobbler you see on social media are going the extra mile because they're making extra money off of the videos. The prices are fair. I believe it was $65 to reattach the sole as well as repair some seams on one pair they initially refused then decided to at least try. I had another pair that needed to be cleaned, but I also inquired if the color could possibly be restored on the leather when they go to polish them. They said "maybe," but it really sounded like a no. I think it was $15 for the cleaning so a total of $80 for two pairs of shoes. They told me to come back in 30 days. Also keep in mind there's signs posted stating that they are not responsible for items left in their store for 30 days after the pick up day (most likely due to it being considered "abandoned" by law.) I was excited to see what they could do. I know it was a gamble and they even said "no guarantees." They didn't call to let me know the shoes were ready. Instead I had to call them (there's a sign in the store saying to call before coming in.) When I went to pick up the shoes they wanted the ticket number, but opted for a different method since I didn't have it. After getting my shoes I took a look and wasn't impressed. It doesn't look like they sewed the leather back to the sole, but instead opted to slather on a bunch of glue. The torn bits are still torn in some areas and there's still a seam wide open. They heavily applied black polish in-order to mask a lot of the defects. The shoes feel much tighter than another pair that are the same size so it seems like they must've stretched the remaining leather over the parts where it detached from the sole and glued it down. The shoes were wing tipped and they placed two big patches on the side of each one that throws off the entire design. As far as the sneakers that were to be cleaned, polished and possibly stained, they just cleaned them as well as polished them. They seemingly didn't bother to clean the bottoms and what light cleaning they did do I most likely could've done at home. No cleaning seems to have been done on the inside. The cherry on top is that they didn't bother fully putting back in the shoes laces on any of the shoes (just inserted them for a few holes then stopped.) Overall, the staff is friendly, the prices are fair, but the care and detail is just not there. Maybe I expected too much from what is most likely a dying industry. Also, if your shoes cost less than $100 then you're going to be paying more than what your shoes are worth. My prices came close to what I considered reasonable considering the price of the shoes. They extended the life on one pair by maybe another year of frequent use, but that depends on how well the glue or whatever they used holds up. read more

My 5" heel black suede shoes heels were badly damaged from getting stuck in concrete cracks and rubbing against solid objects plus the tips had fallen off. I was referred to Fernando's through my Neiman Marcus sales rep when my heel broke on a pair of my Christian Louboutin's and Neiman Marcus repaired the heel using this company. They actually do all shoe repair work for Neiman Marcus, Saks, Barneys, Louis Vuitton and I believe a few more major stores. If I am willing to travel from Oak Park all the way to Evergreen Park this tell you they MUST be good! My CL pumps looked brand new after they replaced the heels. I also brought three pair of my sandals here to have the taps replaced on the heels and ball to preserve the soles. When you pay a lot of money for your shoes you need a good cobbler you can trust and who's familiar with high end shoes and who won't mess them up! And I feel if Neumann's, Barney's, Louis Vuitton, etc... trust them to fix their customer shoes so will I. They do all their own repairs in house, family owned and ran. They're also pretty reasonable too. I've had taps replaced downtown near my job and paid $12 for one pair of shoes, here $5. Downtown the cost to replace heels on a flat Tory Burch Miller sandal $32, here $18. Need I say more. If you're looking for a excellent cobbler for your high end shoes or any of your shoes/boots for that matter. Fernando's is your place. read more

When I entered Fernando's Shoe Repair, I was greeted right away. The store is filled with many items that you may need to accessorize or repair your shoe yourself. The man in the back was repairing shoes and I was offered to have my boots repaired on the spot! I thought I was going to have to leave them but I did not. My boots were cleaned and repaired within fifteen minutes and priced reasonably. The parking is kind of tricky because you cannot park on the street so you park up on the sidewalk area in front of the establishment. This will be my go to for shoe repair due to the friendly customer service, quick service and reasonable prices. read more

Took some beautiful news shoes in once with salsa spilled; they said the best thing was to do would be to strip and repaint, at a high cost, but they suggested I first try a bottle of good leather cleaner, for like $10, no guarantee...but it worked fine and saved me money and my beautiful shoes. Never ever again took 2 purses to be repaired and cleaned. The zipper repair broke in 2 weeks and my cleaned purse came back faded. Expensive and poor quality work. Excellent shoe repair. I've gone here to have a heel repaired from a very long night, boots that needed a little tlc, and recently to get my uggs modified. I purchased some beautiful discontinued uggs and couldn't put my foot in the top of them! Fernando's installed a zipper that looks like the boots were made like that. Hardly noticeable. I also had them repair the sole on some retro Jordan's and repaint the sole. The shoes look brand new, and I've had them since like 2006. I just dropped off a bag that one of the straps broke, so they provide bag repair services as well. I always recommend them to my family and friends! read more

I took 4 pairs of shoes to them, 3 to be shine and 2 of them were brand new. What a more gloss shine on them. And one pair of gym shoes to be cleaned. The 2 new Shoe weren't shined, same shine as came in, they just put them in plastic bags, the other o e like it was just sprayed with can shoe shine, and the gym shoes weren't even cleaned well, the bottom soles on the outside cleaned white but the back and inside of the sole showing obvious dirt where slight cleaning. The side and front of your gym shoe sole get more dirtier that the back and inside, so how come front and outside of soles clean strings and all white. Get me once but won't get me again. First time there and last, I have over 30 pairs of expensive shoes (dress shoes, exotics, Jordans etc.) that I keep 90% looking new to almost new. I had been looking for a shoe repair shop for quite some time and finally had a friend recommend Fernado's. I was actually on my way to discarding two pairs of shoes that I love because I couldn't find a decent repair shop that had good prices. I really didn't want to spend more on repairing shoes than it would cost to simply buy new ones, so I was really glad to receive this recommendation. The first time I took my purse is here Fernando's shoe repair was amazing. I took a Burberry bag to be cleaned, ad 2 Louis Vuitton's to be clean and the strap to be dyed. Fernando gave me my quotes at $175 for all the bags and my down payment was half of the $175 no problem. That was over 3 months ago. I came back with two Louis Vuitton bags only to have the strap dyed so the purse can look brand new. Fernando did not come out to give me a quote. There is a young Hispanic girl who gave me a quote and said that it was going to be $100 for the small purse and the second purse. She didn't even give me a quote, for I asked to speak with Fernando, which is the owner of the shop. He never came out to speak to me, he was completely oblivious to the fact that I wanted some assistance and questioning why one small purse only to dye the strap would be $100. I would not recommend this place they're very unprofessional and unethical. read more

There's a reason that Saks, Nordstrom's and Neiman Marcus all use Fernando and that's because he and his crew are amazing! I brought 6 pairs of shoes for a variety of repairs. Some were scuffed, some had split seems, some had soles that needed gluing, some needed holes punched in straps and some needed to be dyed. Each pair was returned to me looking nearly brand new! After I got those back I took in a pair of Jimmy Choo sandals that had only been worn 3-4 times but the sole was beginning to breakdown and flake off. (Eye roll) After some consideration Fernando suggested adding a Topy to the sole to protect it from further breakdown. They also dyed an 1/8 of an inch so it all blends together. The shoes look spectacular and you can't even tell work was done to them. I would highly recommend this shoe repair shop for run of the mill and designer shoe repair. Just came to pick my shoes up from Fernando's. The service was excellent. This was my first time going to a shoe repair shop, the gentleman at the counter was very helpful in answering my questions. I dropped off 3 pair of boots, 2 for cleaning and heel caps and one for cleaning, heel caps and toe repairs. The heel caps look great and they were nice and shiny when he brought them to me. The packaged then in individual bags for me as well. I gave 4 stars only because I asked to have them ready in the AM since this place is in between my BF's house and my job and they are closed by time I get off. They were not completely ready with my last pair so I had to wait for them. When they came out they looked good. I was really nervous about how the toe cap would look but it was barely noticeable especially from far away. Then I had to wait for them to dry a bit :) Overall amazing service. I had two pairs of brand new shoes altered with an extra 1/4 inch added to the right sole, and the result was incredible. Much more comfortable than a heel insert, and the workmanship was excellent. You wouldn't notice unless I pointed out the difference between the left and right soles directly. The work was done well and on time, and the service was courteous. read more

This place is excellent! My Ferragamo pumps and Gucci loafers are like new! I had new soles placed. Three pair of boots were resoled and looked like new. I had a scuffed pair of black boots that I thought needed to be trashed, but spent 30 dollars on repairing leather tears w polish and new soles and I can get another few years of wear!
