Their rate is not terribly low but I figured it would work out considering that they might get me a better refund than, say, HR Block. They offered the rate plus an hourly for their individual preparation, and I agreed. After entering my documents, my agent learned about my small LLC started during the previous tax year, and requested the relevant documents to file the taxes for it. Great! It is a tiny business- it seems my agent is going to throw this in to maximize the return. 2.5 weeks later, after an update request, someone else from the company sends me a message informing me of an added $750 plus hourly (!!!) for the LLC filing. It had been 7 weeks of their collecting documents altogether, with no other information provided about my status/return. I told them this was unacceptable and that in order to continue they would need to wave the fee or offer a discount. They offered $200 off what would be an extra $1200 or so. I'm throwing them a 2 star for at least acknowledging a mistake and offering a partial refund. This is probably too generous considering I'm paying them $230 in hourly fees for absolutely nothing but stress. Went to HR block and got a nice return for maybe a quarter of the price.

I started working with Robert P. Russo, CPA, PC in regard to my 2018 income tax filing. I had been using another firm who had created a huge problem for me both personally and for my business. Most of my contact was with Bob, Claire & Susy and they were able to make the necessary corrections to get me and my company back on track. Throughout 2019 I have maintained contact with this firm and convinced that not only my past issues totally resolved but that we also have taken the appropriate action to avoid any potential future problems. I sleep a lot better knowing that both my personal and business tax & accounting information are being handled professionally by true knowable and professional people. I appreciate his honesty but I'd remind him that I made a trip to his office & you should always treat everyone with some level of respect. Not quite sure what he was using as an indicator to not take me on as a client but I've never heard of a CPA firm making someone feel like I was wasting "their" time. Mind you, he still has no clue what my 2017 take home was. WTH is that. Can't help but think he prejudged me. Matter of a fact he recorded I use Turbo Tax. Wow. My advice to Robert is to commit the time you promise, 1hr, look at a person's return to understand their taxes, & let them come to a final conclusion if they would like to pay to your fee. Otherwise you have people like myself confused as to how you made your assessment that I wasn't worth taking on. I signed an engagement letter on September 30, giving them over two weeks to complete the work. From October 3rd, Ben knew my documents were disorganized and would require cleanup. Despite this, he waited until October 14th - one day before the deadline - to send me the specific P&L template format he needed. When I asked basic structural questions the morning of October 15th, he was still providing guidance and clarifications through October 16th. I provided all requested information within 24 hours of receiving clear requirements, though admittedly a few hours past his same-day deadline. Rather than work through it or communicate deadline risk earlier, Ben simply didn't file. When I asked about their penalty reimbursement process (standard practice for firms with E&O insurance), Ben claimed we had "not engaged in any services together" - despite having a signed engagement letter from September 30th. He then terminated the relationship, leaving me with accruing penalties. Professional tax firms manage deadlines proactively, communicate requirements clearly, and take responsibility when they drop the ball. This firm did none of that. They waited until the last minute, provided unclear guidance, missed the deadline, blamed the client, and walked away. Save yourself the headache and hire someone competent.

We were still not satisfied as no advice of any kind was provided, only an excel spreadsheet that looks likes a bad version of TurboTax from 2 decades ago, Jonathan then changed his mind and offered to reimburse only 50% of our payment knowing that no service was still provided at this time other than 5 minutes over the phone to confirm a couple of accounting points we already researched for. He obviously stopped responding and we had to dispute the charge. Long story short: a dishonest thief
