In the beginning, you are going to sweat...after you pass Twin Peaks, the rest is totally easy! Trust me; you will learn A LOT about San Francisco that you didn't know. Even for all of you old timers that have been living in SF for "years"...Yes, you will learn a lot as well! Urban hike gets you really acquainted with the City, taking it to a whole new level. This tour guarantees beautiful views of the City. Get ready, because you'll be treated to the lovely views looking from Twins Peak, roam through the hidden landmarks and staircases such as Pembleton Street, Tank Hill, Sutro, through a hidden forest trail; OMG, the views everywhere you go are so dreamlike. Those who needed help seemed to find her readily available and competent to give them the guidance they needed. I have bad knees and couldn't do certain parts of the tour (climbing steep hills and stairs). Diane was very accomodating in guiding me to alternate routes where I could rejoin the group. It worked very well. I would certainly recommend this tour to new photographers who are looking for help in spotting good shots and then creating them effectively. I found Diane's knowledge of the area and history interesting and helpful for me to get some good shots.

I can't believe I'd never been to Civic Center Plaza even though I've lived in the Bay Area for 16 years. I've always wanted to go on a food tour and this was the perfect first timer! The first stop had delicious dim sum, my favorite was the tea tasting. I believe his name is Kenny? He's a taller gentleman that was very funny, the entire session was entertainment. The fortune cookie factory was also amazing! The boba was good, I had the honey milk tea. I wasn't too excited for the Peking duck only because I eat at this specific Chinese restaurant in Oakland and they have the best Peking duck ever! Overall, this experience was great. We enjoyed the food, facts and had plenty of fun! Would def recommend.

The trail starts at Aquatic Park and goes through Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, Jackson Square, Chinatown, downtown, and Union Square, ending at the San Francisco Mint. I thought it was a good way to get out and explore the city even for locals. There is a book Walking San Francisco on the Barbary Coast Trail as well as a map with guide that you can get on Amazon which I thought it was really informative and interesting. San Francisco has such a rich history, and I loved reading the stories of the buildings and shenanigans that went on back in the day. At first, we thought the people in the area were scary looking and possibly dangerous, but she ensured is that it was San Fransisco's hipster crowd that was currently boycotting skinning jeans. I have to give her a five star rating for her driving skills as well. I have never seen someone navigate through traffic while looking at her phone, text messaging her friends. There were a couple close calls, one of which I sharted a little. Overall, we learned a lot... Mostly about here friends, but some about the city. I would recommend her to a friend!

Our docent customized the tour to what each person of the group wanted to hear/learn more about which I thought was very cool. Our tour was also accompanied by print outs of articles and photographs which were helpful aids. Though they say to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the tour to check in, on Saturdays, when the tour begins at 10am, it is not quite as necessary to arrive earlier. The Chinese Culture Center is not open until 10am and the docents don't arrive until 10am either. We parked at Portsmouth ($4/hour) since we wanted to arrive earlier to check-in, but we actually had enough time to park at the (farther) garage that the Chinese Culture Center validates.

We learned many things from Alan was fantastic in helping us understand an area we see all the time but never explore! I loved going through the herbal medicine store, eating dim sum to go, FRESH fortune cookies, and the list goes on. The most interesting was the history, of course... Alan did an excellent job with engagement and moved us through the history of SF Chinatown from beginning to present day. As a black woman with a family, it's always interesting to see the parallels of Black and Asian American history. I was worried my daughter would be disengaged, but she was able to stay present and seemed to enjoy herself. The baby, well, she is a teething baby but there was enough movement to keep her sane... lol At the end of the tour we decided to eat. Naturally, after walking 3 hours. We invited Alan to join us for lunch and ate at Imperial Palace Restaurant. The food was good. I would go back. I would also do the tour again with my partner to explore more and do more ! I knocked off a star because I believe they should bring back including lunch, at the end. Also, I like Alan howerver he spits while he talks. And he talks alot naturally... and you have to stand close to hear bc it's loud around us. Even at lunch, he was spitting on my food. So.. Outside of that, l felt fullfilled and wanting to do it again with a grown up and maybe a mask ? Enjoy!
