This is my personal opinion and experience -- but if you read other reviews, you'll see many people with the same type of complaints. I'm keeping this review fresh so others know, in my opinion, the type of people you could be dealing with. This all happened during a stressful time when I wanted to feel like I had a firm on my side, not one adding to my stress. I understand attorneys need to remain professional and not get overly emotional, but empathy matters. A client should feel like their attorney has their back -- not be met with defensiveness or condescension when raising concerns. From the beginning, there was a glaring lack of communication and transparency. I often had to chase answers from both the paralegal and the attorney, and when I did get responses, they were vague, delayed, and unhelpful. I even had to contact customer service just to get basic updates -- they tried to help but couldn't provide clarity. At one point, I spoke with the managing partner about my concerns, and instead of a constructive discussion, I received an email from the attorney supposedly handling my case. Rather than addressing my concerns, she listed her degrees and qualifications -- which, in my opinion, came across less as professionalism and more like a tantrum of "how dare you question me." Basic inquiries about my case status led to additional charges. Most concerning, I was billed twice -- over $500 each time -- for "strategy sessions" I wasn't invited to, wasn't told about, and never learned the outcome of. I was still expected to pay without knowing what was discussed or decided. The contract gave them the freedom to withdraw money from my account with little or no explanation on invoices. The fees felt wildly out of proportion to the work done, indicating a focus on billing rather than client results. I ultimately had to hire another firm at my own expense and received only a small portion of my escrow back. Their response to my original review was misleading -- there was no mutual agreement for me to leave, I chose to leave. They also claimed to have waived fees, which is untrue. They simply paused my case until I paid the amount they were invoicing. In my opinion, this firm prioritizes billable hours -- especially costly, unexplained "strategy sessions" -- over professionalism, transparency, empathy, and follow-through. If I had to do it again, I would make sure I had a clear written agenda for every "strategy session" before it happened, including who will be present, what will be discussed, and how it connects to my case. I would insist on receiving a detailed summary afterward so I knew exactly what decisions were made and what actions would follow. I would require itemized invoices that tie each charge to specific, tangible work, and I would set a strict not-to-exceed cap for any services in writing before they began. And I would keep copies of all correspondence and agreements. Without those protections in place, you risk paying for meetings you never attended, receiving vague invoices that leave you with more questions than answers, and walking away without the clarity or results you expected. In addition to that, I recently went back and read some of the 5-star reviews, and in my opinion, it's hard to understand how others could have had such a completely opposite experience from mine. read more

I can't believe a law firm can operate like this. This was my first time hiring a lawyer and I can't express my regret in choosing this firm enough. I hired them for a demand letter- for which my final bill is thousands of dollars more than the original estimate and I have no ETA for the return of my retainer (which has been requested). I was charged for sloppy errors (I caught them- not her or her paralegal) my lawyer made in the multiple versions of the demand letter. After I said I wanted no further contact with the lawyer in question- she sent additional correspondence with the opposing member's name misspelled. Do not waste your time talking with this firm. They will promise you the world and turn-around and do exactly what they said they wouldn't do. They will nickel and dime you to death with ridiculous charges. They will ensure everyone in their firm gets a piece of any retainer you put up. I hired them to do a simple uncontested divorce. They produced 1 document and 28 days after hiring them, my invoice was over $3000. They were charging me for a bunch of pointless meetings, charges from the paralegal claiming it took an hour to upload blank template documents to their system. When I complained, their excuse is that's how long it takes. A bunch of frauds!!! The entire firm!!! Don't believe a word they say. Do your research and read their other reviews. Don't go with this law firm. The fees and charges are astronomical. For simple divorce cost $12,000. And my attorney with drew at the end because I did not want to pay 5k in mediation fees. Have used Maddox + Maddox before. Totally suggest looking elsewhere for representation. read more

**AVOID** I reached out to Hobson & Hobson based on reviews & a local office. I started out using them for a consultation with the wife of the owner who used my situation into scaring me into going ahead and securing their services due to the timely nature of my situation. They are not well informed about anything other than marital laws. Since we were selling our home and my wife asked for a divorce after we went under contract, it had to be dealt with and knowing other practices would be beneficial. They did not. In fact they ecouraged me to type up a sales agreement which was basically useless. The only benefit was that it put all the money from the sale of the home into a trust account with them. Everything else was bloated. It costed about 2000 for discussing and having them build it out. When I spoke with the closing attorney he informed me that he would have split it 50/50 with different checks if I felt my wife were going to run with it. Because she said as much, I was. With all of the above said. They will nickel and dime you for everything. I have included some pictures from my receipt with them. They will try to get you to do conference calls via other sites to charge you more and accomplish nothing more than you could do over the phone. Further. In my situation, I have been at home building my business and developing software after making major updates to our exterior due to a failed retaining wall which were in total quoted to over 120k. With interest from the multiple loans and everything we would have paid over 200k so I told my wife I would do all the work since we would not have been able to ever afford that. My wife is acting out of spite now, and has chosen to say that I've been at home doing nothing, that I didnt work a day of our marriage (which I was working while building the retaining walls). I had about 6 more months of work left to do to release the software and now I am in a situation where going back to work means no longer working on the software which also means wasted time on my software. My lawyer was offered a settlement for 40k from the 200k proceeds from the house. He told me that it wasnt a fair offer, that 55k would be fair. Different people have different opinions... but if you do the work to make major improvements to the home and as a result you and your wife profit extra from the home, it would seem that 20% is not very fair, not even 30%. Not only that the work required major commitments and stress while I was working 16 hrs a day at the office and coming home to do it. I've provided details from my case to provide context for the rest... I contacted them in April it is now the end of July. I have not gone to court yet, and have only been dealing with back and forth between my wife and her lawyer. In total I have paid Hobson & Hobson 3000 initially, and I owe them another 4800. They have done ... not much of anything. If you choose Hobson and Hobson you will be paying hundreds of dollars for emails and phone calls. I've contacted other local firms and they are over 50% less. If you are a male who has been at home for any length of time, even if you have been working 60hrs a week at the house with no income, working on projects in the home or developing software. In the state of Ga, a male does not receive equal treatment under the law and Hobson and Hobson doesn't appear to believe so either. Be warned... Only consider using Hobson and Hobson if you have tens of thousands of dollars to spend. Based on numbers that they gave me before hand, they said I could expect to pay $4000 if we settle with settlement agreements, I'm almost at 8k with no end in sight. They keep reaching out to me when I say I want the case on hold and charge me for those emails. You are a number to them, don't consider yourself as a valued client... you are a paying customer, that's it. In one of my settlement responses, my wife made false claims, and my lawyer didnt even fight to correct them even after providing him a long email of things I would have said. read more

I wish I'd read these reviews before we retained Hobson & Hobson. Everything everyone else has said is true. They do a bait and switch. You pay to meet with Chris during the consult who tells you that you have a great case and yes let's do it. He makes you feel great about your odds and your situation. You talk with Stacy who gives you an estimate so you can get a range and know what it might cost you, then they make you sign something saying they didn't give you any estimates and that contains a completely different hearing retainer than what she mentioned in said consultation. Then, you pay the retainer and have your strategy meeting. In your strategy meeting you are met with the actual person on your case who doesn't know anything about your case yet, and as you start to tell him, he does not at all believe in your odds. Then as you start repeating things that he clearly wasn't listening to the first time or two, he starts to say "OK yeah maybe you have a case, tell me more stuff like this". Our strategy meeting was scheduled for an hour we ended up spending 90 minutes because he wrote so slow and in general was very slow. I'm not dumb, Im a corporate senior leader and I work with attorneys daily. I've never met an attorney like this. He said things like AND I QUOTE "Yeah, we can do that and stuff like that." Do WHAT?! I literally wrote it in my notes with a giant question mark. He spoke but wasn't saying anything. Part of the strategy meeting we got charged for he was talking about his girlfriend who works in real estate and the real estate market which has absolutely nothing to do with our case, but of course we had to pay for that glorious conversation. Then, after mulling over the strategy meeting and how it went, we decided not to pursue our case further. We did not believe this attorney would be the one who would successfully represent us. We felt played. They definitely pulled a bait and switch on us putting Chris on the front lines and then turning us over to an attorney who did not believe in our chances and possibly wasn't even equipped to handle the case. We emailed the attorney directly and told him to please cease work on our case. The next billing cycle we received an invoice for work done the next day and even up to 10 days after we asked them to stop working on our case to the tune of $2,100. We agreed that we should pay the amount for work that was done up until our email asking them to stop, but we asked for credit for the work that was done after that email was sent. Chris responded in a very curt and rude manner and they did not credit us for those amounts. They took it out of our retainer and mailed us the remainder. DO NOT waste your time or hard-earned money here. You'll end just like the rest of us writing this same review. read more

Would not recommend this firm. It took about a year for my case to go in front of the judge. Throughout that time, I spent at the most a total of 4 hrs with my attorney, excluding the mediation. And of course the 3k price tag for breathing on the zoom call for mediation. There was zero strategy going into my case. All that the attorney did was just respond to the other attorney. The fees are absolutely exorbitant. Hobson knows how to fully take advantage of those who are going thru a divorce. Zero support and zero sympathy. For men, would recommend attorneys who specialize in men cases. At least you will possibly have a fighting chance. read more

I Hired Chris Hobson and his law firm to do a very simple child support case. He shuffled my case 4 times from attorney to attorney in his law firm. I went to mediation and he assigned a young inexperienced attorney to handle my case. NONE of the objectives that I wanted to achieve were met, not even the most basic and simplest one, which was to get my 19 year old off my child support. Should've been an easy run. They continued invoicing me for "legal paperwork" and for months NOTHING got handled. After looking at all of my options I decided to cut my losses from this unprofessional and unproductive law firm. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS LAW FIRM to anyone, go elsewhere and do your research. All they want to do is drag you along for your money and NOT accomplish one single objective. read more

If I could, I would provide no stars. Read the negative reviews, and take them seriously. Once again, the firm has lost another attorney who they so glowly raved about since he was a retired judge. We were less than impressed from the beginning. Yet, Chris was the one who told us we were in great hands, and he would personally make sure we were well taken care of. Every conversation we had with John, the retired judge who was assigned by the firm, was basically the same conversation over and over, which - you guessed it - it were billed for. Every email was essentially the same email, which you guess it again, we were billed for all of those redundant emails as well. When it came time for court, John was completely unprepared, and I had to resend documents. The judge actually stopped court to allow him to get these documents. During his chat right before court, it was as if he had never spoken to us before, and we were once again having the same conversation. As an attorney by background, I even had to constantly email them to check on the status of the case and remind them of tasks that needed to be completed. I even had to proofread a horrendous draft response by John that had numerous grammatical errors and misspellings. We even had to loop in Chris in to try to get something done. Keep in mind we are being charged for all of this redundancy and the work we were doing/the follow ups we had to do in order to get John to do anything. Now, John is no longer with the firm and both Susan, Firm Administrator, and Leah said they would make this right. We only learned of John departure after sending an email to Chris because of the embarrassing appearance John made in court. (Court was on Friday. We sent the email after court laying out all the issues with the firm's representation, and on Monday we received an email saying John was no longer with the firm. They also said they would not bill us for the work John did since he was unprepared. Unprepared and didn't have all the items we provided yet billed over 3 hours of "trial prep") Susan went as far as to say the billing was vague, and she could not tell what was billed for and what was not Chris's response - he would give us a $2k credit IF we stayed with the firm. So $15k+ with us doing a lot of the work and seeing very little to no results and that is how you're going to make it right? The firm, specially Susan, has now become hostile and outright rude because we have made it clear that they have lost all of our confidence. They are now going back on their word and trying to bill us for items that they previously acknowledged they would not given John, who is no longer with the firm, billed and was unprepared/overbilled. They are also claiming they had no idea there were problems despite us keeping record of all the emails and calls to Chris. (As you can imagine, Chris will not respond to any of them.) If this sounds like your experience, file a complaint with the GA Bar. This is unacceptable. read more

I met with Mr. Hobson for a consoltation that we paid for our of pocket. We decided to retain them and then had a strategy meeting, where we met with another lawyer from the firm. After the meeting with her, we decided this was an absolute waste of time and money and that going forward with their services would be completely pointless and offer zero help for my situation. I asked them immediately after to please just charge me what I owed for the strategy meeting, and then received and invoice for $1200 for "meetings" that were never held, or already paid for. This was literally the worst service I could have ever imagined and feel completely snaked by a bunch of scum bags. Please please do NOT let them waste your time and steal your money read more

Mr. Hobson assigned John Wetzler to my custody case and he did a fantastic job. He made me feel like my voice was heard both in court and to him. I had an attorney prior to Mr. Wetlzer that really did not represent my interests in the manner I expected, so I had to terminate that agreement. John was able to pick up the pieces without problem and genuinely seemed to care about my case, my well being, and my interests. If I ever have the need again, I would look forward to doing business with this firm and Mr. Wetlzer again. The rest of the Hobson team was also very kind, attentive, and helpful throughout the process. read more

I had a very negative experience with Mr. Hobson and his firm. Mr. Hobson's firm ultimately kept around $730 of my retainer to do zero substantive legal work on my case. The invoices I received from Mr. Hobson's firm contained errors, duplicative charges, and charges which didn't make any sense. For example, I was charged for review of an "audio recording", but I never provided an audio recording to be reviewed. I was charged for a "strategy meeting", (with whom I have no idea), but given the posture of the case and that it was near conclusion with likely only one hearing left, there wouldn't have been any "strategy" to discuss. I was charged for drafting of two 1-page template-type documents where the paralegal and attorney time overlapped for the same work and the actual amount of time charged appeared exaggerated. Finally, the attorney billing rate was incorrect on the initial invoices. When I communicated my concern regarding these activities for which I was billed, I was never given any specific explanation as to the charges nor was I provided updated/corrected invoices. Instead, I was told that the firm would provide me with a special credit in an account somewhere, but I wasn't provided any documentation of this credit until the representation was over. It was very difficult to get a full accounting of my retainer funds from this firm despite several requests. When I went to Mr. Hobson's office, I was told that I could not have a full accounting of my retainer because apparently no one knew how to print one out (or so I was told). I was also told that if I was contesting the invoices in my case, that I would not be allowed to have my case file (even though they already had more than enough money of mine to cover the disputed invoices and then some). Before I left, Mr. Hobson came running outside to tell me there must have been a mix up by his office staff and that I could take my file. At the end of this firm's representation, I was amazed to receive an invoice for $125 for "scanning and closing my file" when the majority of the actual file had been provided to the attorney electronically and the actual case documents were all e-filed/electronic documents. There was no need for anyone to scan more than perhaps a few sheets of paper, if that. Amazingly, when I asked Mr. Hobson where I could find the bar rule which he claimed required him to keep a copy of the client file after representation terminated, he said he didn't have time to do that and if he did tell me, he would have to charge me. Overall, Mr. Hobson's responses to my inquiries were vague and non-responsive. His responses generally referred to the firm's policy, our representation agreement, or unspecific bar rules and he typically avoided providing any direct answers to my questions. I contacted this firm for help with a domestic case. I was pleased with them from the very first phone call until the end of my case. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful, and have a way of helping you find a calm in the middle of the storm that you may have been experiencing before contacting them. During the calm I met with several employees of the firm and my lawyer (JILL). The meetings left me calm but not confident with my case. However, on the day of court my lawyer became the storm which totally caught me off guard. My lawyer knew exactly the right questions to ask, and right buttons to push. She also had the experience and knowledge to bring into play an old case that directly reflected on my situation; in which I feel was very helpful in what I would call a "Flawless Victory". My lawyer was amazing and I would definitely recommend Hobson & Hobson to anyone looking for a lawyer for a domestic or family case.
