This was an awful job for a temporary employee through a staffing service. They did not comply with the hours offered on their job assignment they advertised for 3 months in advance. Did not provide lunch as stated and were not accommodating with office space or proper chairs. The work environment was not welcoming. If you are a temp. reading this I took the time to let you know because they are just awful mainly the lady who hires the temps. she was just God awful. Good luck! read more

I usually drive to Bakersfield to get my taxes done. Our CPA moved to a practice so we decided to try Hocking Denton and Palmquist. Our son was an announcer for Garces High School for a few years. One of the commercials was for this firm and we loved the way the announcer said "Los Osos". They were pretty fast getting our tax returns back to us. They file online as well. read more

Let me first say that I have never gotten a professional to do my taxes before. However, I felt the need to write this review because I have now tried to talk to the office manager and receptionist and been hung up on three times. This is unacceptable to a small business that is trying to get clients. I would stick with turbo tax, as they charge less and will explain every question you have. I will start by saying Miles was great. Helpful and, though he seemed new at what he was doing, he was friendly to work for. That's where the positivity of HDP ends. We made our appointment over the phone and I had a lot of questions, so I called about 4 times. The front desk lady was curt, even the very first time I called. I wanted to be very clear and upfront about what I would be charged. The front office seemed very unorganized and unhelpful. They gave me a "range", but said if it was an "uncomplicated" return, I wouldn't get charged more than the base charge. This uncertainty should have signaled me that I should go elsewhere. However, I decided to stick with them. I don't think knowing a price upfront is too much to ask. We showed up right on time, and were told (rudely again...) that they were having computer problems and they may be a while. After sitting in the front office for 25 minutes, Miles came to get us. He was great, but we had started so late so he seemed rushed. About 20 minutes later, the phone rang saying that his next appointment was there. Miles said he would finish our return "sometime soon" and the appointment was over. We were in there for less than 30 minutes. I didn't hear from miles for a few days, so I emailed him to check on the status of the return. He said he was working on it and we emailed a few times after that (he had asked us to clarify a few things...) and he said he didn't quite know when he would finish. A few days later, We got a call from the office and they left a message to call back because they were done with the return. I called back and Theresa was extremely rude. She was confused why I didn't understand the return options and she was extremely transparent about not wanting to explain. She then told me the fee was $100 more than I got quoted. However, she couldn't tell me why we were getting paid any more than the base rate. I asked to talk to a manager because she still couldn't explain why our return was "complicated" and when I finally talked to the office manager, she interrupted me several times, and then hung up on me. I called back and after Theresa proceeded to tell me "this is the real world and they would no longer talk to me about my charges" she then hung up on my husband. I can see why the clerk felt comfortable hanging up on me, as the manager is setting this example. Shame on them. There are more details, but this is too much to include! Great service and they are very helpful. They have locations in Los Osos and Bakersfield. Its worth the trip to Los Osos for the scenery.

With a long personal and professional relationship with those in the office, I was still astonished the rude attitude I have been met with. Breaking up with an accounting office should not be so difficult. They have been more spiteful than a jilted spouse. Debra was horribly rude. She was unwilling (or unable) to explain anything regarding office procedures, and then when it was requested that I speak with her supervisor she hung up on me. If my office staff were to deal with my clients the way I have been dealt with here, they would be looking for new jobs. read more

I had a pretty simple tax return and could have probably done it myself. However, I am quite pleased I went to HDP to have it prepared!! Definitely recommend this place! read more

Great experience! I used TurboTax in recent years to file my taxes and was in the process of inputting my wife and my wages and tax information into TurboTax this year and the amount just seemed very low compared to our recent returns, recent purchase of our home, childcare, etc. And so, I decided to consult a tax professional and am very glad that I did. I worked with Miles with HDP and he was very helpful and informative throughout the whole process. He prepared my return in a timely fashion and I was very pleased with the outcome. He maximized my return by itemizing in a way that TurboTax is simply unable to do and, as a result, my return was significantly more. I will most definitely be utilizing the services of HDP in the future and am very grateful that I enlisted their services. read more

I have been using the Los Osos office of Hocking Denton & Palmquist for over 15 years. The entire experience is always a pleasure. As we all know, preparing for the tax appointment is quite a task, but I am always rewarded once I arrive at the office for my appointment with freshly brewed locally roasted coffee and fabulous Carlock's cookies, made daily by Gary Carlock. The front office staff is friendly, efficient and kind. The CPA's are knowledgeable and do great work. I have had the opportunity to use both Ben Rutherford and Kim Allen to prepare various tax returns over the years and have been happy with the results each time. I highly recommend this office for your tax needs! read more

I wish I could give this firm no stars. I worked with them for two years on a non-profit board and they were remarkably bad. Unavailable, late, and rude. Both years, they asked for extensions on our taxes even after having been given our financials very early in the year. When they were finally done, I was called to pick up the returns and my adjusting entries were scribbled in pencil on a piece of notebook paper. I was not allowed to talk to the accountant in person. When I finally was able to speak to him and questioned some items, he informed me that he had been doing the job for a long time, as though that was an indication that I should shut up and take his word for his work. And all the comments about the rude, unprofessional and disorganized front office staff... ditto. They were ridiculously condescending. I would never recommend these unprofessional clods to anyone. read more
