Great service and it's a local establishment so I'm always going to try to go to these over a chain. I had the special sandwich which was chopped brisket, fried potato's and beans and my friend had the one meat sandwich. I thought the fried potato's were great! It had been a while since I've found a place that did them the way i had them in Kentucky. Atmosphere is an "in and out" diner and I'm usually looking for more of a "sit and stay" type of place..nothing wrong with it, but you don't need a lot of atmosphere when its and eat and leave diner. The chopped brisket was good, but not notable. I'll definitely go back and try another dish next time that might get my 3.5 to a 4.0. Try it out and support local!! read more

A local favorite, Hodies serves up some great BBQ in a no frills diner right on the main road through town. The food is reasonably priced, the menu is easy to read, the wait staff is friendly and helpful. Bottomline: we enjoyed our lunch. Food service was fast. The iced tea well made and served in a Texas sized glass. The place is busy and quite popular. Brisket comes either sliced or chopped with the sauce on the side or on the sandwich. They also have a number of sides that accompany their meals. I'd stop here again on the next trip through town. read more

Stopped here on our way to CO. Dropped my son off to get the order in and I ran a block away to get gas. Came back and still waiting over 10 minutes to get 2 sandwiches to go. Seemed to take a long time to make a sandwich. This is a local hangout for the area and probably have some great plates, but I found the bbq a little dry. There are better places, just not sure how far you'd have to drive for it!! read more

Great little restaurant with good ambiance on US 87. We each had the chopped brisket sandwich. They have "single" and "double" meat portions and the single was an ample amount. The prices are in line with bbq restaurants at home. (We were passing through from East Texas. ) Before ordering tea or soft drinks, check the price. A little too expensive for my taste. ) I had the brisket sandwich special. The beans were perfectly seasoned. The cottage style fried potatoes were a good change from potato salad. The bun was fresh and tasty. The beef, while seasoned well, was not moist enough. Very dry. Recommendation- do not order here. It is an embarrassment to Texas BBQ. Everything is store bought and heated up. No smoker chugging away at this place!! How can that be? The Brisket and chicken are obviously out of a package and tasteless. No smoke flavor or ring at all. No Texas BBQ place slices it's brisket with a countertop slicer. It looked like a had ordered a thinly sliced gyro platter from a Greek restaurant. I threw away most of the platter after tasting. My wife ordered a salad with chicken on top. Same store packaged chicken on top of shredded lettuce and ONE tomato WEDGE. That's all. Dressings are in store bot single- serving package. And when I order a simple 3-meat platter off the menu with no changes and your kitchen staff gets it wrong, it is not my fault. The lady at front seemed very put off with me questioning it. They left off the chicken. Should be easy to fix. Really sad place but not many options in Dalhart. read more

I love this place. In full disclosure, the last time I was here was in October of 2011, but I still thought a review was appropriate. I used to travel through Dalhart a few times a month, and this was my favorite place to go. Bar H is also a popular hangout for the frequent panhandle travelers; if you want to sit down to a steak, it is great. Hodies, however, is great bbq at a great price. The brisket is always tasty and tender, you can tell it was done right. My favorite part though is the beans. They are like nothing I have found anywhere else. Maybe it is a Texas thing, but it is a very different style than we have in KC. They alone would be worth my time to go there. As other have noted, it is not fancy, but the food is good and that is what matters most for this guy. I am hungry just thinking about it. read more

This is simply lackluster BBQ and it's unfair they are currently being graded on a curve. The atmosphere and service are nothing to speak of, which is fine for hole in the wall TX BBQ. More importantly the food is just plain ole disappointing to anyone whose actually had good BBQ before. This place may or may not have been good at one point in time but as of this moment it's clear they're really not trying anymore. Been passing through Dalhart for years. Always the wrong time for food. I will now stop at Hoodies anytime they're open. Wow! What a pleasant surprise. Maybe I was just hungry for BQ, but man this place hit the spot! I settled on a 2 meat plate: ribs and brisket. Everything on the plate was good, sides included. The ribs were perfect to me. Most of the fat rendered out and the bark absolutely delicious. The brisket was very lean and sliced super thin. With a little sauce, just nice. It happened to be my birthday, and they brought me a peach cobbler on the house. I left happy and satisfied. I will be back sometime. Try it!
