Never having this procedure before, I was totally not prepared for the shock of the intense burning feeling that shot up the side of my face when they administered the novacaine. It hurt and scared the heck out of me - I have to say I was shaking uncontrollably after that and still can't believe that happened without warning. I came to understand why they have to do that but I would have liked to have been given a warning before hand. Once the novacaine had numbed me, the rest of the procedure was totally pain free for which I will always be grateful.

I have extreme anxiety when visiting the dentist (my bp is literally 149/90 on arrival every time) but he always puts me at ease. He is extremely patient and explains the procedure step by step, often asking if I'm doing okay. I've had fillings, crowns and cleanings done by him. So it was time for me to go back because I knew I needed a dental cleaning. I asked a coworker who she went to and she recommended Dr. Matrullo. I booked an appointment and I was pleasantly surprised that they are literally 1 mile from my home. Walking into the office I found it very visually beautiful. Upon check-in I did the necessary paperwork and after that I was greeted by a wonderful hygienist named Tara. She took X-rays and then started to gently scrape my teeth. She always asked if I felt any pai, which I didn't. Once the cleaning was done, the younger son, Dr. Matrullo came in to asses my fillings to make sure they were all intact. He asked if I had any concerns and I said yes, I don't like the overcrowding of my teeth since I had braces years ago. He recommended an orthodontist who specializes in Invisalign. Overall this is by far the most wonderful experience I've ever endured regarding dentistry. The customer service is Top Notch, the dentist was very knowledgeable and kind. When I moved to RI, I found Capitol Hill Dental on Smith Street in Providence, RI through my…read moreinsurance. The office was conveniently located and walkable distance from my apartment. There is also a small parking lot in the back. When I enter the building, I go downstairs for general dentistry. There is a small waiting room with a few chairs and the hygienist will bring you back to the room when ready. I never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes before meeting the hygienist. From February 2022 to September 2024, I went to Capitol Hill Dental for all my dental visits mostly for just cleaning and exams. The front desk staff and hygienist were always very friendly and we had great conversations. My teeth came out clean and were healthy. During my visit in September 2024, the staff informed me that next month Corporate has moved the general dentistry dentist and hygienist to another office and this location was going to be closed. They offered me to make my next appointment in that other office in Johnston or Scituate or to change dental offices. I decided to look for another dentist office in Providence since it is more convenient.

Unfortunately, while they do complete the paperwork with insurance companies, they are not "providers" with any insurance companies and therefore don't accept what the insurance companies allow. This leaves the patient to pick up the balance of what the insurance won't cover. Now that my husband and I are retired and will be living on a fixed income, we thought it best to switch to a "provider' dentist who accepts the payment the insurance company allows. As I said, love the practice, but can no longer afford to pay for services that are fully covered somewhere else. I give the Rawlinsons four stars for this reason.
