The first great boat I purchased from owner Joe was marketed and serviced with his team different from the one he has now from whom I just bought another and even better boat. Nevertheless, the total satisfaction experiences are sustained over the years and his two teams! Why is the experience here different than other dealers? There is no "cookie cutter" nor pressure approach to anything. If you could give 6 stars I would!!! I was not in the market for a new boat, but I had a day off of work in the winter and decided to look at a boat they had listed on boat trader to kill an hour of my day. Of course I fell in love with it after talking to Tracey (she is FANTASTIC), and then my wife and I decided to put down a deposit and do a sea trial. Keep in mind that this was winter, and the Potomac was frozen. Joe and his service department kept in contact for 2 months, until things warmed up, and then they took us for an hour ride on our potential boat. There was never any pressure, Tracey and Joe are so laid back I dont even know how they sell boats at times ( I am in sales too). Needless to say, these are great people, and they really care about making relationships, not just a sale. If you want to buy a boat from honest people, then go to Hoffmaster's! Great family-run business. They've had that marina since the 1950s. The son of the guy who started it is now in charge. They say in their advertisements that when you're at Hoffmasters, you're a part of the family. That's really true. I saw them at the Chantilly Boat Show and they were so nice. I'd buy a boat from them just because they're good people. The marina isn't as big as their neighbors, but you get a unique feel of a down home intimate marina. They have gas, a travel lift, and mechanics on hand. Their store has a lunch counter and some boating supplies. When you go there, people remember you. Its like walking into the bar at Cheers, people know you and that's refreshing. The same can't be said when frequenting other marinas on the Occoquan. I had stumbled across a particular boat that exactly fit the idea of what my wife and I wanted in our first boat. After researching dealers, Hoffmasters was the only in the area that had this boat, so I decided to go take a look at one. I arrived at the store and was impressed at what I saw, boats everywhere! But, as I approached the door to the sales room/store, I crossed paths with a man who asked if I needed assistance. i explained that I was looking to buy my first boat and which in particular I was interested in and this is what he said, verbatim... "don't buy a boat from us...we're crooks." Ill attempt at humor, but whatever. I shook it off and looked at the boat...and really liked it! Loved it even! Two days later I took my wife to see the same boat and she also liked it. She especially liked the price tag as it was half as much as the other boat we were considering. So after we look at boat I decided to speak with someone to price out a boat built to my specifications and to schedule a demo ride. As I walk back into the store, I see the same man walking toward me, as he was talking on the phone and he asked if I had any questions. I said I'd like to price out a boat and schedule a demo ride. No lie...this is what he said to me... "I'm on the phone with my grill manager right now, I don't have time to talk about boat sales." WTF!!! Who says that to a potential client?!?! Flabbergasted. Appalled. I just couldn't believe it. Amazingly, there was a nice woman in earshot who heard this and offered to help, but she didn't even work there! To his credit the dude came back to chat briefly and he took my contact info b/c I still wanted a demo ride. The next day I get an email stating that the same dude had found a couple boats of the same model I wanted, but in two different states. He really missed that I said I wanted to order a new boat. STRIKE THREE...HE'S OUT. The worst part is...the dude was Joe Hoffmaster himself. I'll never set foot back on their property again and when I do own a boat, I'll jump out and push my boat past his gas station as far as I need to in order to do business elsewhere. Completely unacceptable service and attitude. The dude lost a boat sale b/c his grill manager was more important. Unfortunately, it turned me off to Chaparral boats too, even though it's nothing to do with the boat. Who says that...a grill manager?! read more

I first started doing business with Hoffmaster's when I brought a new Chaparral I had purchased in Florida in for its' first service. The whole team truly helped me learn how to handle a boat and guided me in its' operation. 4 years later, I had gotten to know Joe; I specked a second Chaparral its' engine, color everything exactly how i wanted it. Joe ordered the boat, said if it comes in and you don't want it, I'll sell it. In the meantime he advertised my old boat (in winter) and had it sold before the new one hit the ground. I loved the new Chaparral and had many years of fun with it, servicing it at Hoffmaster's every time. I stored it in the dry storage at Hoffmasters and found they were always there to help me when I needed it.
