You will not be disappointed with Swift Marine. John the owner takes his time and will explain anything you ask him. I pulled up with out an appointment and he took the time to educate me and my son on props and pitch. He even stopped his busy day to help us on the spot. We needed a part to make the prop I purchased work. This is for an older boat and John had the correct part and took care of our issue in order so we could go out that day. Very dishonest and total ripoff!!! I took my 1997 Bayliner Capri Stern drive to Mr. John Swift for repair. My issue with the boat was stalled on the river with the prop not turning forward or reverse. So his diagnosis on the boat was to repair carburetor and replace fuel line from pump to the carburetor. He called me and explained his findings and provided me with a price for parts and labor for the repair of my boat $532.00. I was little skeptical about his diagnosis, however, I had to take his word for it since he is the mechanic and I am just a boat owner. So the boat was picked up after 2 days and paid $543.02 with taxes. I went straight to the boat ramp and launched the boat on the water, started the engine but boat does not move in reverse or forward and slowly I started drifting away and was rescued by another boat. So I took it back to Swift Marine and 2 days later John called and told me that there is a broken lower shift cable and the whole out drive needs to be pulled out and parts + (7hrs) labor about $975. I did not have that kind of money at the time and I called around and found Harbin Marine in Lorton can do the lower shift cable replacement for $450. So I took the boat to Harbin Marine and only thing they found wrong with my boat was just a spun hub. So I paid $130 for a hub kit and labor. My boat is running smooth and has no issue ever since. It took eight months to get the work completed. Owner did not return my telephone calls and appeared very defensive when I tried to discuss concerns. I ended up having to take the boat to another shop to complete the repairs and redo some of the work. The spark plug wires were installed backward, the ignition wiring was never grounded and they installed a used tilt/trim motor that broke the first time I used it. The business has several complaints on file with the Better Business Bureau. read more

Horrible horrible horrible. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. He never delivers when promised. His communication is garbage, not to mention he is over priced compared to his competitors. His work is shoddy and when you pint it out, he gets defensive and says that was the best he could do. BS!!! What a waste of money. I hope this helps anyone curious about using him. read more

I called John at Swift Propeller about 30 minutes before closing on a Friday since I was in need of a new prop. John said come on by and I'll install the prop for you. John stayed after hours and gave me his input and after deciding on a new SS 4 blade prop, he installed it for me so I would not miss this weekend on the water. He is very friendly, has a lot of knowledge, and is an all around great guy to work with. Stay away. I took my $750 9.9 hp outboard to him because it bogged down at high speed. He quoted me $300 and charged me $550 the first time I picked it up. When I brought it back because he didn't fix the problem, he charged me another $200 for not finding anything wrong. I finally figured it out and fixed it myself with a $10 new diaphragm for the fuel pump. No conscience, not honest. read more

Buyer Beware - Owner proprietor Mr John Swift is a personable fast talker. When you first meet him, he is very convincing of his expertise and experience in boating equipment and repair. He also quotes you that 'If any problems, bring it back and we will take care of it' but it is not documented and has conditions not referenced. My experience has been pretty tiring chasing him around on the phone for my ordered parts and visits to his shop, but in a nut shell - he does not keep his word and does not really make an effort to respond once he makes a sale and has your money. I purchased a prop and a sting ray tail based on his recommendation. I am a practicing engineer in the field of aerospace and understand fluid flow. In my opinion, I felt the sting ray device and it's universal mount did not interface well with my Yamaha 150 well enough for me to drill 4 holes. I wanted to return the part uninstalled and upgrade to the better 'Stealth 2' design from him. He flat out refused to accept a return because it was Gray vs Black and a special order. What a ridiculous bases and such conditions were never stated as nonrefundable due to a special color order or stated it was special order (his definition) ! It is only a $60 item but not really interested in running a reputable business. Take your money to a better staffed shop will respond and answer phones and will keep the return policy. You will be much happier in the long run. I can't wait (sarcasm!) to see how well the prop he recommended I purchased perform! read more

I went to swift marine to get parts for a boat I was selling, I had been somewhere else to get it fixed and spent several hundred dollars on the repair that was not done. john had a champion boat that I really wanted, though I did not have the funds at the time, he worked a deal for me getting rid of two problem boats, helped me fix the issue another facility got paid for, and made my dream of a reliable bass boat possible. Found this shop over the summer people were friendly very busy so I made sure not to waste there time I had bought a new engine for my boat old one was well kept john offered me exactly what I needed and wanted to get old engine off and new one on which was win win I would recomend this shop ,easy to deal with small buisness read more
