My girlfriend and I chose to try Hearthly Burger, located at 520 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, NJ, because we eat 100% organic and rarely eat meat, so we thought this would be a good place to try a burger. While our food was being prepared, the cook -- wearing the same gloves used for food handling -- began spraying a chemical degreaser approximately six inches below the food prep table. We could clearly see the mist drifting near the food. Because of the visible chemical spray near active food preparation, and due to my serious gluten allergy, we politely asked that the food be remade. The response from staff made us feel as though we were the problem for raising the concern. The employee appeared upset and threw the food into the garbage, and no explanation, apology, or reassurance was offered. From our perspective, chemical degreasers and food preparation should never occur at the same time. After I clarified that this was a food safety issue, a second employee stepped in and properly remade the food, which I appreciated. The food itself was poor to fair. Despite this being a to-go order, we still tipped 18%, yet the overall experience reflected very poor customer service. If a food safety officer had been present, this would likely have been a very bad day for the restaurant. Am I overreacting..Zero Would I return? Never. Will I share this experience with friends? Hearthly (not a typo) Burger is in a storefront in The Grove West on Broad St (Route 35 S) in Shrewsbury. A rather small store, with seating for 20 or so. Forgetting my guidelines of getting an unknown sauce on the side and not ordering extra cheese, led to the rather quick delivery of a delightfully messy double cheeseburger slightly overhanging the bun, dripping with two American Cheese slices ($2.50 for the extra slice!) and "OG sauce". The sauce was explained as a mix of three ingredients one of which was Sriracha. The "pasture-raised beef" pieces were large (do I need to start measuring diameters?), perfectly cooked (the medium-well with little to no pink that is fairly standard in the gourmet burger fare) and much resembled my favorite Smashburger in appearance with a slight char edge. At first I instinctively thought to add salt, but didn't see any in the building and by the time we got to the middle of the burger, I found well-adequate amounts of it. Drinks: non traditional "Organic Fountain Soda by Tractor" The Kola Cola Lite was possibly not carbonated; the Cherry Cream definitely was. Found this place a while ago on Yelp and today was finally the day to pay a visit. They are located right in front of The Grove at Shrewsbury. The food was good. The fact that you can substitute any beef patty with the vegan option is fantastic. Because you get to try different versions. I just wish their spicy burger was actually spicy. This place is amazing!!! The food is delicious and is actually made with good healthy ingredients for burgers and fries. They have incredible gluten free options and use a separate frier for celiacs. I got the burger with the lettuce boat, truffle fries, and my dad got the fire burger. This is our go to spot when we want a good burger but we don't want bad ingredients. They also just started using algae oil which made the fries taste delish and is good for the gut. You'd never know this place used the cleanest freshest ingredients. The decor was very nature positive with strains of Ivy and bright colors covering the inside walls STAFF: The staff were friendly while being interactive. Additionally, the delivery speed of the food was swift and still hot upon delivery to my table. FOOD: Now rolling into the food. I ordered a double cheeseburger with a side of fries and a drink. The fries were mediocre. They were pleasantly seasoned with salt, but they were limp and soggy, signifying they were underdone. My burger was decent; it had a savory taste to it combined with the sauce they laid on top of the chopped lettuce. It wasn't overly greasy which sometimes can happen with burgers which is good on their part. But overall, the portion sizes were way too small. A double cheeseburger in accordance with their menu marketed prices should be a beefier sandwich for someone who is looking for a filling bite to eat. However, to my surprise I received a small hamburger. RECOMMENDATIONS: Personally, I just didn't enjoy the restaurant. The food was very midline at best and nothing stood out to me while I was eating my meal. Secondly the pricing for the food was extremely high and didn't match the quality that was being put out by the kitchen. In total my order came out to $30 for a lunch with medium/smaller portion sizes. The place is practically outside and my favorite part of it is the outdoor vegetable garden in the middle where you can eat your food. Almost feels like I am on a little farm. I love it! It also looks like they use some of the things they grow to cook which is bonus points from me. They have gluten free options and interesting burger options like the kimchi buttermilk chicken (a favorite), mahi mahi burger and more. I also like their vegan milkshakes and chicken tenders. Wow I am really impressed with the food here. They have the best French fries around. IMO better than Five Guys or Shake Shack. We had them with the truffle Mayo and they tasted like a more expensive favorite from a high end steak house. On 8/4, a close friend reached out to me that he was in the area and wanted to meet for lunch. I took the opportunity to have him meet me at Hearthly. It's kind of hidden, you cannot see it from Rt. 35. It's off Patterson but tucked between a clothing store and Billabong. It's all organic if that's your thing. I had the single cheeseburger and fries. My buddy had the Fire burger single. I loved the fries, they're thin cut but soft the way I like them. I imagine you can get them crispy but I loved them the way they came out. The burger is tasty, well topped with fresh ingredients. The OG sauce is delicious. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. The young lady who took my order said they usually cook it medium, but it was well done. It was still very good. My friend really enjoyed his as well. They also have a tank of fresh lemon water!! That is perfect for me because I really don't drink soda. I like that they anticipate people like me. I took a star off because the burger is kind of Smash Burger like, the burger could have been a little larger. The fries were abundant though. UPDATE: Stopped in cause we were down the block at TJs and I was wanting chicken (I try my hardest to stick to organic). Glad we did! LOVE how cautious they are with Covid laws, they don't let anyone inside everyone was masked and gloved. The young guy working at the front was super sweet, checked on us a few times to make sure everything was OK, they have some great seating outside Adirondack chairs and picnic tables to choose from, surrounded by lots of flowers so you can enjoy a little nature. This review is for customer service and how they prepare their food. I called them and the girl answered the phone, "Hello?" And I paused and asked, "Is this a business?" And she laughed and said, "Yes". How do you answer the phone like that? And she never apologized or anything. I asked if they fry their fries and she had to ask someone in the background who said yes they do deep fry. A healthy restaurant should not be deep frying their fries and still call themselves healthy. There are air fryers that can "fry" food with no oil and it would be a healthier option. read more

Usually excellent, but tonight we got there at 7:35 and the girl who took our order told us after we ordered that they were closing early tonight. The people who work there are usually very nice, but not tonight. The burger was charred and inedible. I took one bite and knew I couldn't eat it. I asked for a refund and was told I couldn't have one. I asked why not and I was told because there was nothing wrong with the burger. For $16, the burger should be mouth-watering.
