I was determined disabled in 2016. Stopped SSI payments b/c I recieved an inheritance in 2020. I was,shot in the head in 2018. My concern cern was not recieving SSi My concern was begin8ng Nov. 2024 FBI put me in a protectedpersons address confidentiality program. I spoke with a case manger explaining strickt policy's I must follow in thos program. Example: no utilities in my name. Property held in trust with the AG's office. Licenses fake address all documents fake address and the my.mail is overnighted to me. I needed an attorney who could reach out to SSA and explain the dynamics and provide the documentation I finally recieved from FBI in April 2025. I was told no problem they can work my case accordingly. However the entire timethey did NOTHING. NOTHING. SSA confirmed aside from rep letter they never heard from my attorney or anyone from his office. My outcome was the worst. I ended up having to take early retirement with no ssi which is more money then my retirement payments but because they never contacted SSA nor provided the documentations they considered those paying my bills always intended to and intend to continue to. My.deceased mom's best friend who's struggled all year to help me Im not ble to pay back any money she paid all year helping me from becoming homeless (not even a blood relative). Assude from that I will loose EBT and CAP utility help. Basically I am now homeless b/c I will only get my early retirement of $830. a month. I cant afford to live off that! Ive been so sick all year and my recent brain scan revealed my time left is limited. Dealing with that one and with a really bad TBI I also must figure out how to live homeless when I dont even own a car. My attorney never spoke with me. I left so many messages never got a call back from my attorney. Case Mgr useless Georgia ssi expert (not n attorney) everyone called but my attorney and only my attorney could give legal advice as well honestly I wanted answers as to why dispite 1K's of X's calling i never recieved a call back. NEVER! call my calls went to call centers regardless of what number u call. No one answering the phones could tell me who my attorney was and admitted in recorded convostions they can't transfer anyone to an attorney because thy dont have that option on their system. They then cashed my check from SSA 10 days b4 having "Georgia" who's literally screwed my case, call me. Knowing u have only 5 days to inform SSA u dont wnt them paid for not working!!! Thy k ow this true bw use Thy never herd from thos lw firm on several cases they have. Their scam: they take ur letters of representation. Do nothing. If u win they collect if not who cares they don't work the case anyway. Since February I have seen so many clients who complain about the exact same issue. Only reason they have a file is because i faxed them the documents, doctors reports etc. They did NOTHING. Even when i sid i do not accept that result amd need my tty to call me. He did. I went to SSA last week. Ha ing been shotim deaf in left and habe a tenitius scream on the other so my phone is always on speker when i take or make calls. SSA and everyone in thy office saw me calling and begging for my attorney to take my call to answer the same quetion ive had since nov 2025. I was crying and begging to all who answered the phones thonk8ng im cll9ng the law firm when all thecalls are to a call center (peopke at hone answering callls and dont onow nothing andd cant reach any arttorneys. The ABSOLUTE WORST!! Interesting how Google Reviews have them at a 5! Or is it just the ones they won and the initial reviews they ask every client to do for them right after your first phone consultation reviews!! Someone needs to look into their practice as I too like many others were asked to do all the work and I was personally asked for my Username and Password to my personal MY CHART yet the reason I didn't get Disability was because the Judge didn't understand my Disability Start date which should've been easy to answer as I tried to work 3 different jobs after I was seriously injured but had to stop all 3 due to the pain! Unfortunately I wasn't educated on what they were confused about since I still needed to survive in this world! Obviously I would've used the date of the last day I worked the last job I tried to do in order to keep a roof over my head and bills paid, but the pain became unbearable so I asked for help from what I thought was an unbelievable firm (Google Reviews) but instead I was on my own the entire way except when due dates were coming up... So I'm still broken, lost everything (My home/car/faith/drive to fight again and 5 years of my life) How am I not Disabled? I have had 3 neck surgeries and was paralyzed on my left side until my last surgery, but I still have to get 6-8 procedures a year due to the incredible amount of pain I live in every single day! Which Medicaid doesn't pay for instead a great doctor has helped me along with family members when they can. That Doctor is a double certified anesthesiologist and he has me listed as permanently disabled and restricted to 2.5/5 pounds max weight to carry plus every restriction from driving (The State of Illinois approved and sent me a Permanently Disabled Placard for a vehicle gifted to me from my church even though I only drive 2-3k miles a year), standing, stairs, walking, sitting, and even sleeping restrictions in order to cradle my neck.... And that's only the physical stuff in an extremely short narrative!! It doesn't include the 2 decades of childhood trauma, obesity due to lack of exercise (Division 1 Lacrosse Player when I was in college) PTSD from childhood and from a decade and a 1/2 Military Service now a Veteran, extreme depression & anxiety, homelessness off and on over the past 5 years, and lastly 5 others I'd rather not mention that disable me further mentally! They asked me to do a review after my first consult and then they were unbelievably hands off throughout the entire process even after signing consent for HIPPA! And yes I was with them from the start... But I only received horrendous lack of support and that's putting it nicely! They are supposed to be the experts and they had permission throughout all 11 stages only to be Denied, Denied, Denied, Denied, Denied, Denied, Denied, Denied, Denied, Denied, and lastly Stage 11 DENIED! They did the bare minimum for a ridiculous amount (of $$ Percentage) just to absolutely fail me in the end... You give them authorization to gather all the information they need as EXPERTS YET THEY WANT YOU TO DO ALL THE WORK... Insane to me and worst of all I learned of my fate a week ago when I needed the most help ever!! Please trust me they were the worst way to go for me and many others, so if you're seeking legal assistance do your homework! I wasted over 5 years working with them only to get the final denial from Social Security by email.... Take my horrendous life and poor judgement as your reason to choose wisely because I wish I could've been informed as I am informing you all now! Be careful and select the very BEST.... Lastly the person that gave me their information walks terribly and is also in horrible pain after being hit by a car and broke far too many bones! I pray these words are helpful to someone. My first accident led to a very painful surgery. A law firm was involved, all the evidence proved negligence on the mall. However my pockets weren't as deep as the mall's. Many years later I was involved in another accident. A shelf above my head collapsed behind me containing outdoor metal chairs knocked me to floor leaving pain that changed my life. There were lawyers involved but again my pockets weren't deep enough. After a few years I was determined to get my life back. I convinced myself that I could go back to work with this pain many people work with pain. To God be the glory, I was hired at a wonderful company. It was impossible for me to sit or stand in one place for more than 10 or 15 minutes I thought a heating pad would work I would walk to the bathroom for relief until I was called to the office for not keeping up with production. My many doctor appointments surgeries and therapy didn't help. I know by the grace of God I was still hanging on. I was not happy because I could not do the job I was hired to do. This is hard for a person who strive to do their very best always! I was home recovering from four surgeries. I got that call I had expected long ago, that my job had ended. I was said but relieved because I could not give my usual hundred percent. My doctor tried to convince me before I got a job that I was disabled to work but I believed that was unexceptable I worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant over 20 years I had seen many disabled patients And I didn't fit the characteristics of my definition of disabled until I went back to work. I took my pain meds. My husband drove me to the Social Security Office and I applied for disability. A few people including my doctor told me to get a lawyer but I didn't want to suffer that rejection again. I lost the case I was finished And convinced that I was not disabled. The same people and my doctor told me to appeal my case and get a lawyer. Finally I started look for disability lawyer Hogan Smith Law firm appealed to me. I was a client of Hogan & Smith for my disability case. While my case was ultimately approved, the communication and support throughout the process--especially toward the end--were extremely frustrating. During the appeal process, I uploaded more than 75 documents to their client portal, including very personal and important records. At one point, I was told there was "nothing in the portal," which was concerning given the amount of sensitive information I had already submitted. I was also repeatedly asked to contact my psychiatrist, even though I had already provided the provider's name, phone number, email address, and even access to my patient portal more than once. It felt like there was a lack of coordination and follow-through on information I had already given them. After my case was approved, I was informed that the firm had already received payment, while I was still trying to understand what steps were needed to release my back pay. I ultimately had to contact Social Security directly and complete the final steps myself. I understand that legal processes can be complex, but I expected clearer communication, better tracking of submitted documents, and more proactive support--especially given the sensitivity of the information involved. If you choose to work with this firm, I strongly recommend staying actively involved in your case and independently verifying all steps with SSA. I would say going through a disability case is ongoing and you have to just stay with the process and trust that the lawyer is doing their best. First I was upset that I did not speak directly to a lawyer and had case managers but in the end it was a matter of just going through the process and sticking with it and I will have to say that I do feel they did a good job and Case managers were knowledgeable.
