Personally, I absolutely hate writing negative reviews here. When we placed our order, Alex, the sales person, was pleasant. However, I stopped by the store several times while waiting for my furniture. My sales person, Alex, never acknowledged my presence. I need more information on when my furniture will be ready for a delivery. I was promised to get a call back with the information, but that never happened. When furniture was delivered to my house, it was hardly wrapped, almost everything is damaged. $800 chairs brought to my house like it is some goodwill used furniture. When my wife called to complain, she was told to bring the damage stuff back to the store and they would exchange the chairs with their floor models,which were even more damaged. No sincere apologies , no accepting the wrong doings. I was shocked with their nonchalant response. From start to finish it was very unpleasant experience! Their manager could have at least called us back, not even. I guess they were too busy dealing with an empty store. Do not buy your furniture here!!!!!! Scandinavian design and Modani stores are 1000 time more pleasant! This store should absolutely not be in a business of selling a high end furniture. read more

The staff are very informative and cater to your specific needs for your living space. I can't speak highly enough about the service and delivery here. Together with Bo Concept I think those 2 are the best furniture stores in San Diego if you are looking into contemporary, quality and style. Very European in taste, if you are lucky enough to live in a loft in downtown, for example, the models they showcase in Hold It are so matching with the urban landscape. I helped a friend last year to furnish his condo in East Village shopping several big items there. I fell in love with the store. For some reason, though, the customer service seems always lacking: either too snobby (like if we, customers, do not have good taste either, even though we are not designers) or ignoring your presence. Like yesterday, I went to check a few lamps and also I like the artificial plants section a lot. No one even say hi at the entrance. Sometimes, though, that is good, you don't want to browse and admire the furniture that can potentially populate your place one day having someone on your back. Ordered custom made furniture for 2.5k. Instead of 8 weeks it took 5.5 months to arrive finally. There were issues with shipping and manufacturer, and holdit service did try to fix, but it was always as if there were giving me half-ass solution bordering on purposeful neglect. First time - piece came damaged critically. They offered repair; come on, thank you for the lemon 2nd time - drawers were mismatched. It was obvious and any wharehouse inspection would catch it. Yet, they chose to deliver this to us; hoping we would not notice? Finally, the piece arrived. It still was slightly off in alignment but overall very beautiful so we just gave up All this time, while trying to help, they chose to ignore our request for update, gave us questionsble options. read more

We bought a dining room table and 6 leather chairs in 2017 for our second home. They get minimal use. We discovered recently that one of the chairs had badly split on the seat, and so we recently brought the chair and original receipt in to HoldIt. "Rachel" at the front desk said they couldn't help us because they don't carry Mobital furniture any more. She had no help or advice. She said I should use Google and maybe I could find some other store that had the needed chair. (So far I am striking out.) Basically, Rachel was bored and uninterested in my problem. Especially after asking me if I'd be interested in just buying a whole new dining room set (!) and I said No. This place is interested in sales, but not customer service. Avoid! read more

See my previous review for context. I just experienced such bewildering incompetence that I had to update my review. * Dec. 14, 2018: I went into the store to buy some decorative pebbles. After completing the purchase and walking to my car, I immediately changed my mind to get a different color. I walked back in and was told by my sales lady, Evelyn Ollman, that I can't do an exchange and will need to return the old pebbles and buy the new pebbles instead. Okay, fine. I wait for about 10 minutes for Evelyn to process a simple return. She said the delay was due to a printer not working. I asked if she can just email me the return receipt instead. She said she can. I'm already annoyed at this point because this is such basic common sense--it's absurd to make a customer wait 10 minutes for a return simply because the printer is not printing receipts. Think outside the box by emailing or just writing the receipts manually! Given the lack of common sense, I had reason to not trust that Evelyn knows how to process a refund. And sure enough, when I got back home, I checked my bank account and the refund is missing. I immediately email Evelyn back on the same day * Dec. 16, 2018: Evelyn responded that "[t]he refund will come as a separate transaction." That didn't make sense as the refund should have already appeared, separate or not. But I gave her the benefit of the doubt by giving her several more days. * Dec. 21, 2018: Unsurprisingly, I still haven't seen my refund, so I ask for an ETA. * Dec. 26, 2018: I asked again via email for an ETA and to confirm that the refund was issued correctly. * Jan. 1, 2019: I emailed Evelyn yet again. * Jan. 4, 2019: Evelyn FINALLY responded, and with an insultingly uninformative response: "A credit for $8.62 should have been refunded to your credit card. Please, let me know if you see that refund appear in your account." I responded by reminding her that I still have not received my refund. * Jan. 9 , 2019: Sick and tired of being ignored despite being OWED MONEY, I called and explained my situation. My call was transferred to Evelyn and she said she was just about to respond back (given her history, that was likely a lie). She then admitted to not refunding correctly and how she is trying again and guarantees that it will be correctly done this time. She emailed another receipt for the new refund attempt. * Jan, 13, 2019: Sure enough, I still didn't get my refund. I called several hours before closing and asked to speak with the manager. I was told that he's busy at the moment but can take a message for him to call back. I explained how I haven't received my refund after a month. 30 minutes before closing, of course the manager hasn't called me back so I called back myself and asked for the manager. I finally am able to speak to him and explained my situation. And since I was in the area, I asked if I could just stop by now so he could refund me in cash. He had the audacity to decline by saying that that it's only possible if I originally paid in cash. I have no idea if I did because I'm a busy guy and I don't keep track of such minutiae. I had to explain how I just want my money back and how unprofessional Evelyn has been. After reviewing the notes on my transaction, the manager said I could stop by to pick up my refund in cash. I stopped by and the manager was speaking with some customers at the register. I told him that I'm here to pick up my refund. He explained that it will be a moment and I add that I'm in a rush. Fortunately, he had the common sense to side bar from his customers to give me my money. Out of anger and frustration, I explained loudly how I shouldn't have to spend time and gas money to pick up my refund. That was also an opportunity for the manager to compensate for my troubles, which of course never happened. The entire refund process speaks volumes about the incompetence of the staff and management. When you owe a customer money, regardless of the amount, that customer is a high priority. If you're talking with customers and someone comes in to collect money you owe, that someone has higher priority and urgency. And you certainly do everything you can to give someone's money back as quickly and accurately as possible so he doesn't have to drive to your store and interrupt your sales pitch to collect his owed money. It's no wonder this store has incompetent staff. Incompetent management hires incompetence and trains incompetently. ----- RECOMMENDATION: Avoid this store if you can. If you must visit this store, purchase with CASH ONLY so you can actually get a refund with less issues as apparently, this store doesn't know how to process electronic refunds. And anything that requires trusting of and competence from the staff is a risky move. We need a competitor in San Diego so we can watch this arrogant business either close shop or correct its attitude. read more

I could not be happier with the outcome of our living room and dining room through the help of Elizabeth. She is very knowledgeable and a talented interior designer. Just ordered a coffee table for our place. We love coming here to get ideas. The items here are really pricey but if you lucky you can snag a great deal during their warehouse sales very couple of months. The products here are usually imported and you can't find them online. Trust we tried looking. The items here are quality and high end items. We've been debating over two coffee tables here and finally ordered one. The price has gone dramatically since we last checked in. The staff is great here, very helpful and not pushy. We decided to have it delivered with home install $95. We could have picked it up from the warehouse in Kearny Mesa but we didn't want to hassle. I'll post an update with how the delivery went when the table arrives. Update 10/21/15: items were delivered right on time and they carried it upstairs to our apartment. The table is amazing! They set up the table for us too, it was two pieces but pretty heavy. Loving it so far! Worth the money. We ordered on a Sunday night and got it Wednesday morning. Update 10/27/15: still love the table BUT there is mark on the glass that just won't come off. It looks like a hand print or smudge. The delivery guys told us to use windex and it would come right off. We've tried it all and the mark is still there. We called Hold It and they set us with someone at the warehouse. They called us the next day and offered to come over to look at the table to see if it could be fixed. Just got a call this morning saying they will be dropping off a brand new table tomorrow! Wow what great customer service start to finish! read more

Since I am working from home, I decided it was time to invest in some office furniture. After visiting a few stores and not finding anything that met my requirements, I visited Hold It furniture in Mission Valley. Eddie and his team were so helpful, from listening to what I wanted and the style I wished to have to helping me draw out different ways the office could be arranged. Netali was amazing, showing me design ideas and how to accent my furniture to get the most out of my TV. I ended up getting a beautiful 2-piece desk and a chair. The desk was on sale in the store, and was delivered three days later in great condition. The chair was backordered 4-6 weeks, which I understood. Eddie called me three different times giving me updates on my chair, and when it was going to be delayed again he offered to sell me the floor model at a discount because of the inconvenience. I declined and chose to wait for mine, but the offer really shows what they are willing to do for their customer and their wish to make each customer satisfaction the highest possible. When my chair arrived, Eddie called me and said he would have it delivered free of charge because of the delay. I didnt even have to ask, and the offer was a pleasant surprise. This is the second major purchase I have made with Eddie and his team at Hold It. Everything I have purchased is of the highest quality, and even though most things have a four to six week lead time they keep in touch constantly and update me with all the changes. If I have a question and call them, they usually call me back the same day. The old saying you get what you pay for is definitely true here, and the quality and professionalism I experienced at Hold It, in addition to the amazing quality of my items, ensure I will be here again for my next home furnishing needs. I stumbled across Hold it years ago and couldn't understand why even Los Angeles does not have a furniture store this well-curated AND well-priced. Frustrated with the limited selection of unique yet affordable modern eclectic design in LA, we now drive to San Diego to buy furniture for our portfolio of vacation homes. I don't even live in San Diego, and I am willing to come to town to shop at Hold-It, mainly because the customer service is so top notch. When you are there, you can feel that this store is run by an exceptionally talented team of people that work together as a cohesive family unit. The entire Hold It experience has been awesome. We decided to move to San Diego during the pandemic, and from the moment we walked into the store when everyone was wearing masks, to choosing our furniture and buying it, and on to delivery, everything went better than expected. A lot of services ask if they "meet or exceed our expectations" and the people at Hold It FAR exceeded any expectations we would have reasonably had. Special shout outs must go to Holly Taylor and the delivery team. Not only is Holly friendly and knowledgeable but her understanding of design and helping us choose the right furniture for our not yet built condo was amazing. She took the time to come to the model to make sure that everything would work as planned, and regularly updated us with pictures of the design. When things came in groups, she worked with the delivery people to make several deliveries at no extra cost. Finally, she came out after everything was delivered to help us decide where to put our art work. In short, she has been absolutely amazing. The delivery team of Cody and Jim were equally impressive. even when delivering heavy furniture upstairs, they nailed it. Always friendly, always on time (or early), and always extremely professional. When pieces needed to be put together, they did it quickly and efficiently, and they always made sure that we were happy with where they put things. Today, the last delivery day, they moved a heavy piece previously delivered for us because we wanted it adjusted a little bit. Also, absolutely amazing. read more

Many people don't understand that US Customs can & will detain a shipment on a whim, add the weather, transportation and other things can cause delays in your shipment to arrive. A couple years ago my husband and I bought a lot of furniture over 10K from this store. All the sales associates knew us and they were so friendly. Yesterday we went back to see some armchairs. I asked for a fabric swatch and the sales associate told me I need to tell him what color I exactly want to see because he can't just pull all the fabric swatches for me! I felt kind of pressured and I said I'll think about it meanwhile I wanted to order a lamp. Then all of a sudden he started helping another customer and the two other sales associates were standing at the register just hanging out doing nothing. We got so frustrated that decided to just leave while we passed by the register they looked at us didn't say a word like oh we can help you or something. We were completely ignored. Mind you the other customer they were helping was American and we were not! So we think it was a racist behavior. All the faces were new to me. Hopefully the store manager will make a greater effort in improving their customer service and training their new associates to treat all of their customers with respect and kindness. read more

Additionally you can't beat their outstanding customer service. Their sales people are fantastic but I have to call out Anthony in their Service / Delivery department. Anthony was awesome to deal with and he is on top of his game. He coordinated several deliveries and also helped with a service call to take care of a minor issue with my new dining room table. We have purchased multiple pieces of furniture from Hold It, including a dining chair set, two lounge chairs, a sectional couch etc. Only once we had an issue with a dining chair that came with a stain. The owner quickly apologized and had the chair replaced (this was communicated through the sales rep). It just took one quick call to resolve the problem. Elizabeth was always great to work with. Hold most recent reviews are friends and family reviews to bump star rating. All of a sudden they get 5 reviews with high customer service pathetic! High priced cheap furniture. Bought outdoor furniture and less than a year it started to crack and peel. I take good care of all my furniture, as per care instructions recommended from manufacturer. As an interior designer I appreciate furniture. Well I field a claim they came out to look at it. All they did was give me a cheap cleaner that I didn't not need. Then they told me they would file a warranty claim, but that it could take months. I waited and waited call the service department several times left several voice messages nothing! I emailed the Rep that sold me the furniture and finally someone responded saying she no longer worked there. He would be willing to help me. Long story short they told me it had been a long time and that my warranty on the furniture was expired. That supposably Paul they guy that came to inspect my furniture the first time try to reach me several times, this was a complete lie! That warranty was expired and that since I didn't properly "take care" of the furniture it cracked that I had to seal the furniture every year his suggestion was to sand down a cement top table and benches. Oh and that Paul was no longer with them so that was a way of them getting out of replacing the furniture. Don't buy from this furniture store!!!! It's made from cheap materials. Hold It, is a nice store. The staff on the other hand it not. When I first moved out of my parents house many years ago, I came here to find some nice things for my new bedroom. I had just started a new job that paid a lot better than what I was used to, so I was ready to splurge and make my first real, on my own purchase. What would be better than a nice bed, couch or entertainment center. I came in early after noon, with the then boyfriend. We looked around and found some really nice things that I wanted to add to my decor. We walked around the store for more than twenty minutes, with not a single, "Can I help you with anything" When we finally talked to a employee, she talked to us as if we didn't belong. As if I couldn't afford the things in the store. She was rude, and unprofessional. We left, disappointed. I had some serious cash to burn, and now no where to spend it at. I'm the type of guy that has never really needed too much comfort in my living situation. I've always been able to pretty much get by with crappy C-List furniture containing slight rips, tears, or I'm sure even the occasional urine stain. I can usually make the best of a situation and be comfortable wherever I am. Heck in college I even once had a decent nights sleep crashing at a buddy's house using a Nintendo power pad as a blanket and an empty 30-pack as a pillow. (True Story) It's safe to say that before I walked in this place, I was not really in the target market they are looking to reach. That is until I browsed around. I started to develop a new liking for furniture. I imagined their pieces in my house and felt cooler even just pretending they were in my crib. I even fake changed the channel on the TV and ate some make believe chips to really get a feel for what it'd be like. By the end of the visit I wanted many items. One problem. It's expensive. If your poor like me this place will probably disappoint you price tag after price tag, but if you gots the cash to make it rain I'd recommend taking a peak at the selection. It's a huge store so you're bound to find a few things you like. It's mostly contemporary stuff. Basically, if the Jetson's were a real life family and much hipper they're living room set would have come from here. I love the furniture in this place, but after dealing with the owner Mike when I had the misfortune of receiving sub quality furniture, I am afraid I would never set foot in here again. I don't understand why he is so very angry and defensive, maybe he's just not that experienced in dealing with customers, or he was having a bad day. Either way I would suggest for the welfare of the business and the benefit of it's employee's, he does not have any involvement with the clientele. Shouting down the phone at your clients is really no way to conduct your business. Maybe take a deep breath and remember who's paying your salary. read more
