Small, locally owned, outstanding service, beautiful merchandise that cannot be found elsewhere (except they do have another store out near River Park). Oh, and it must be attractive since I wear a uniform and need to add a bit of color with the bag and my shoes. The clerk was very congenial and showed me a variety of bags and even when I thought I had found just the right one, went on to find the real right one. A Vera Bradley that met all my requirements. This is the kind of customer service that makes me happy. The store, though small, is quite compact and all the items are beautifully displayed. Luggage, bags of all sizes, travel accoutrements, greeting cards, various stationery supplies. Sort of a jewel box for the senses.

Walked up, and the store had just closed. Owner Jane was about to drive away, but saw me and asked if she could help. She opened the store back up for me and asked what I was looking for (Wow, 3 stars for that alone!!!). I told her I really had no idea, just a gift for an 80 year old lady. Jane had some great ideas, and I was done in 10 minutes, now a happy boy! So, yeah, you could wander aimlessly around Target or Wal-Mart, and buy something that everyone already has or has seen but would end up being classed as "well, after all, it's the thought that counts" - in other words: fail. Instead, my advice would be to put yourself in Jane's hands, trust her advice, and walk out with a wrapped gift your recipient will really appreciate as unique and charming. There was a time not too long ago that felt successful, like a win win situation for all parties involved. But at some point prices started to go up and now I can't justify exchanging some of my nicest baby clothes for a used toddler tee shirt priced a dollar or two below its retail value fresh out of the big brand store it came from. Or a pair of used shoes for practically the same price as new. I shop here because I love the concept. I shop here because I love that shopping second hand keeps clothes out of our landfills. And I used to love shopping here because it was affordable... I probably won't stop coming but my shopping selections have become much more slim and I only go on sale days. It has a different focus than the other sewing and quilting shops in the Fresno area. Mary Kay, the proprietor is a charming and lovely woman Very attentive to detail. The shop is in an old house. It's been converted to the store. Behind the store there is a converted garage where she has a classroom and holds classes. Check out the calendar. The calendar lists sewing days that you can sign up for, and classes with a variety of techniques for many different types of styles and interests of all types of Quilters. Now down to the Fabrics. She has a focus on Lori Holt from Riley, Blake fabric manufacturer, fresh, bright, and pretty. She also carries a number of major lines from Moda, including the collection for a cause, French general, which is sort of a romantic, antique look, and also Andover prints by laundry basket, quilts. These are things that greatly interest me and other shops in town tend to focus more on modern fabrics and modern quilting with a lot of batiks and modern prints. So I'm glad The Quilted Goat is focused on providing a different sort of inventory. In addition, The Quilted Goat carries a lot of pre-cuts, plus fat quarters if you just want to select a few little pieces to fill out your stash or sample things. She has a whole wall of notions. This is towards the back of the shop. The shop is decorated in kind of a vintage style vibe. Additionally, there are many quilts and samples of sewing on display. One of the quilts, a disappearing nine patch was beautifully displayed, and there is a class coming up on that at the end of January this year 2024 every room has something inspiring, fun, vibrant to get your quilting juices flowing. Mary Kay sends out a newsletter which you can also find on her website. In my opinion, this is the best quilting store in town.
