The building is fresh and new with lots of space to explore, but still located in the heart of Midtown Carmel just off the Monon Trail. On the first floor, you'll find a gift shop and displays of Carmel history and ephemera. On the second floor, you'll find more informative displays about historic Carmel families and Carmel's Quaker heritage. The third floor is my favorite. That's the children's floor, with play houses, lots of toys and games, and fun things to explore. The museum also hosts a weekly free storytime in the children's section. I love that there's another free place for kids to play in Carmel. Also on the third floor, you'll find a room dedicated to the schools around Carmel, Carmel high school sports, famous athletes, and vintage items in display cases. This floor also gives you access to the rooftop area, where you can look out onto downtown Carmel and the Monon Trail. This is a really cool resource for learning about Carmel's history. Whether you're a Carmel resident or not, you can feel the pride of the city just by walking around the building. We were hosted by Ally Financial and they had several tables down in what I would consider to be the "VIP" area. The show was really good, but what I liked best about the entire experience is that you could bring in your own food and beverages. No matter where you were seated on the lawn, you could bring in a cooler, pizza, take-out, deli sandwiches...whatever you like. Some folks had really nice set-ups, and others arrived with nothing more than a folded lawn chair under their arm. Children ran free and folks made their way up to the dance floor positioned directly in front of the stage. I look forward to returning again in the future. It was really nice. Beware of the dragonflies. They were the size of my hand!

We certainly felt grateful to hear of this city's amazing history. I was grateful for her immense knowledge of the city, particularly historical facts. LOVED the trek through lovely Crown Hill cemetery, which is not morbid at all. Carrie pointed out the many grave sites of noted politicians, authors, artists, ex-Presidents and the locally prominent who lie in repose there. The Civil War burial section was also very touching. Ms. Carrie pointed out magnificent churches, memorials, art and children's museum, local eateries (Shapiro's Deli=yummy!) and the White River State Park area. We even got to check out all the Christmas decorations up at the Indy Speedway. She packs a lot into the 3-hour tours but when it's over, you feel a sense of accomplishment that you learned so much about Indianapolis-- a city made all the more beautiful than it already is, by the beautiful ministrations of Carrie and Circle City Tours. 5 YELP STARS.

So much love and work went into these houses. I was in awe of some of the work completed in them. I definitely had my favorite! You can also buy all sorts of pieces to work on your own house too. My friend is redoing her childhood house for her niece so it was a great way to get the creative juices flowing. Definitely something to check out!

One of the Best Experiences I've Ever Had!…read more We recently participated in a team scavenger hunt with Pedego Electric Bikes Indy and it was an absolute blast! As someone who hadn't ridden a bike in over 20 years, I was a little nervous -- but the electric bikes were incredibly easy to maneuver and so much fun to ride! Scot and Cathy, the wonderful owners, made the entire experience smooth, welcoming, and memorable. Their kindness and passion for what they do really shines through. I'm new to Indy, so solving the clues and discovering local landmarks added an extra layer of excitement. Chatting with Scot and Cathy to see if we guessed correctly made our victories even sweeter! And of course, I can't forget the real stars of the show -- Hamilton and Schuyler, the adorable "employees of the month," who greeted us with wagging tails and made us feel right at home. I may be a little biased (our team did win, after all), but this was hands down one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had. Whether you're a local or just passing through, I highly recommend checking them out. Pedego Indy is an absolute gem!

In the shadows of the Hamilton County Courthouse sits an unassuming memorial that would go…read moreunnoticed unless you were walking around the Square. The memorial lists the names of the men of Hamilton County who lost their lives during the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korean War and conflicts in Southeast Asia (including the Persian Gulf Wars). There is a moving quote from Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address on the wall near the base, "From these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion." The names of those lost are listed on three bronze plaques mounted to stone panels. The center plaque from WWI, WWII and Korea was made possible by the Noblesville Lions in 1946. The plaque for the later wars was erected through the leadership of the Jaycee's. No women are listed. US and Indiana State flags flank the memorial. The monument sits nearest the northwest corner of the Square, behind the Sheriff's Historical residence. Visitors can sit on the little wall to reflect near the memorial. There is limited free parking around he Square. Lights shine on the memorial at night. Late afternoon is the best time to visit when the sun is to the west.

I was looking at a map of the Meridian Hills area and saw "Second Presbyterian Church Labyrinth" as…read moreone of the landmarks. Say what? A labyrinth in Indianapolis? My interest was piqued and I set off to check it out. Turns out, my good Yelp buddy Richard P. has already visited this labyrinth and wrote a way better review of it than this one I'm writing right now. So read his review. Then, go and visit this labyrinth. You'll find it easily when you enter the church parking lot -- just follow the signs for "Children's Circle." I'll have to come back with my children, because I think they'd have fun walking on the labyrinth and getting to the center. It's a nice little spot with some boulders to climb on, and some benches to sit on, if you wish. It's located right off the church parking lot, but tucked into a little nook with trees, so it's definitely a place where you could find peace and quiet. It's really neat that there's a free place in Indy where you can mediate while walking on a labyrinth, and find a little time to yourself outdoors.

By now, it's no secret that I love labyrinths. I visit them regularly and the labyrinth at Second…read morePresbyterian Church is among my favorites in the state of Indiana. A relatively new labyrinth, this labyrinth was developed in 2013 as part of the over 180-year-old church's 175th anniversary celebration. This is an outdoor labyrinth built in concrete within one of Second Church's grassy areas. It's publicly accessible and other than during events held at the labyrinth is open for use. Rev. Gracie Payne, a former Lake Fellow at the church and now Director of Young Adults, led the development of a prayer guide for the labyrinth that is available on the church's website. The outdoor labyrinth is designed in the classic tradition similar to that of the one at Chartres Cathedral in France. While it's just a touch too narrow for full-on wheelchair use, the labyrinth is easily wheelchair accessible with a pathway that is smooth. I've had no difficulty following the labyrinth's paths - I simply go a bit outside the lines (which pretty much sums up my life anyway). This labyrinth is in an inspired location. It's easily accessible within the city, there's plenty of parking, it's a generally safe area (in fact, I often see police cars in the parking lot), and yet it's a fairly wooded lot offering a peaceful place for prayer and meditation. Second Church does periodically hold labyrinth-based events and the website is a great place to look for those. Currently, they are asking labyrinth users to wear a mask if 2 or more are using the labyrinth. There's also a bench where you can sit and reflect here, as well. Otherwise, this is a simple yet beautiful labyrinth and definitely one of my favorites.
