This property is NOT pet friendly. We generally try to stay at pet-friendly locations even if we don't have dogs with us. We ended up here because all the IHG properties in Des Moines were fully booked. We stopped here on the way back to Minneapolis from Tulsa. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful when checking in. Morning staff was efficient and social on check out. Room was clean and comfortable. This is one of the best motels I have ever stayed in. It is super clean. I felt very safe. Beds are super comfortable and free regular and decaf coffee available all day. The pool is well taken care of and it is family friendly, Rooms are super clean bathrooms are also and they have a lot of space. I have a lot of health issues and severe Asthma and the staff were very accommodating to my health issues during my stay by making my room allergy free. The man who made the breakfast named Larry is very kind to all the guests and he makes a great breakfast. The Biscuits and gravy are delicious and so are the cinnamon rolls. All the staff are friendly, kind and professional. If you need a motel in Ames this is the place. If I go to Ames again I will chose this place again. We have already stayed here twice. Mostly I appreciate the kindness and professional staff that really cared about my son and I having severe Asthma and accommodated our needs during our stay. I'm going to say that among the mid range business hotels this fine. Nothing to gush about but definitely worth the $100 I spent. Clean and comfy. Ned was nice. Front desk was very friendly and helpful at check in and a dinner suggestion. Plenty of parking. Easy access from freeway. Gas and drive thru food near by. The hotel fitness center is meager at best. The breakfast is neat and clean and self service and not my gig but for free, many will appreciate. Pool. Board room. Fitness center and laundry are all available. read more

With newly decorated rooms, the Holiday Inn Express in Ames has definitely upgraded itself. The remodel is still underway as of this date (February 2015), with the third floor complete and the second floor closed for work. I booked the room this time through a blind purchase on Hotwire. You can recognize the hotel on the site by its 100% positive score there. One negative. The hotel is not centrally located in Ames, housed close to I-35 but a bit far away from ISU. But then again Ames isn't really that large, so it's a minor inconvenience. In fact, it may not be a bad idea to get away from campus if you want to sleep. Also, don't confuse this Express with the traditional no breakfast Holiday Inn located closer to campus. The walls there are paper thin and again, no breakfast. Not that the walls and floors at the Express are soundproof, but they're better. The pricier Gateway Hotel, with its concrete construction, is your best bet for quiet in an Ames hotel. Breakfast was exceptional this visit, very well maintained by the friendly fellow (Larry!!) in charge of it. Great variety and well stocked. read more

We booked our rooms here for a graduation at Iowa State University. The bathrooms could have been cleaned snd the Managers could have been more helpful in our situation we were dealing with . Spoke to them several times and they were not helpful at all. Very very disappointed we would not choose this hotel again. read more

I haven't stayed here, personally, but I frequently book reservations on behalf of others. This review is for the staff I've dealt with over the phone only. I have heard good things about the service/experience at this hotel, but can't attest to them myself. As for the hotel operator/reservations staff, Michelle in particular has been extremely helpful. She is friendly, knows the hotel inside and out, and offers suggestions to ensure that all of your needs and wants are met when you are staying at their property. She even remembers your name if you've booked before - that's a sign of great customer service! This Holiday Inn Express, like all others, is an InterContinental Hotel Group property, so make sure you use your Priority/Ambassador club membership number to get your points! All in all, this is a friendly place to work with, and I imagine an equally pleasant place to stay. read more

Stayed here often for soccer tourneys. Kinda away from the 'city', but not a bad drive in. Nice, clean, friendly staff. Moderate rooms, smaller pool. Decent cont breakfast, usually a line and need to keep it replenished often. It is in a nice "get-together" room where you can group at night, chat, drink, watch TV too. No complaints. Just average place to stay. Would I stay here again.... yes. And probably will soon, then I'll update more. read more

Took my elderly parents to Ames to visit my daughter and thier granddaughter. Booked a roll in shower room for them. When checking in they gave this room up to some other guest. Confirmation and reservations do not matter to this hotel, as we specifically chose this hotel because of this guarantee. Front desk personal did not know what to do, called manager. We talked to the manager and said they overbooked, it happens, was rude on the phone and hung up on us. Did nothing to try and accommodate and fill our reservation. Very unprofessional!! Definitely not a customer focus and poor representative of the Holiday Inn Express chain. My advice is to stay somewhere else! read more

Spacious rooms. I had the king size bed and it include a sofa and comfortable armchair with an ottoman.

The room was nice, large and clean with a small kitchen, a pull out couch. The bathroom was very clean. Front desk staff was very courteous and helpful . The help us to find a great place to have dinner and provided us a map. The continental breakfast was just fine, with the usual offerings. The coffee was bad but he staff working in the dinning room were very helpful. The hotel has great location, right off of I-35 near Ames downtown. read more

Although they were quite full for the evening, Jeremy and Deja worked to find us a room. They were not about to turn us away. For that reason alone, I will never knowingly give my business to any hotel associated with Holiday Inn or IHG. It has become a matter of principal with me not to do business with any company that has no sway over the people that carry on their "day to day operations" in a manner of total disregard to their own customers. I have only today been able to ascertain the name of the manager of this hotel by calling the desk and persuading the clerk to divulge the name AMIT SHAH. It's amazing that the name was refused me while I was there with the police while filing my complaint. And I believe that I previously mentioned that on a subsequent day during my stay there when I asked if the manager was in, I was told yes. But I was also refused an audience with him to discuss what had happened, as it seems when the clerk asked him to talk to me, the manager refused. Sorry for making this into a novel. But I'm sure most readers will understand that the real point now is not just having been robbed, and dealing with filing a police report that is an excersize in futility, but the fact that I have been completely ignored by the one person ( Amit Shah) who should have shown, ( even if not genuine ),at least a small amount of concern.
