Granted, it's not a game week and it's probably a slow time of year, but everything about this place has been outstanding . The service was friendly and efficient. The hotel and rooms were clean and contemporary. My room was plenty roomy with a couch and a small mini kitchen. You're not going to make dinner here, but there's a microwave, an apartment sized fridge (not the tiny mini fridge typical of most hotels), quartz countertops , a sink and real dishes. Even a dishwasher. A toaster would be nice. It's perfect for storing your food and frozen items and being able to make a simple meal. My bed was firm and the sheets were soft. Super comfy. I woke up without a stiff back for the first time in days. Breakfast was fresh, hot and very well stocked. I appreciated the dried fruits and fresh berries in addition to the usual eggs, waffles, oatmeal and pastries. They even had almond milk for the 20% of us who can't stomach traditional milk. The only thing lacking was a pitcher of ice water. The hotel also has an area where you can do your own laundry, a small detail that makes a huge difference on a longer trip. They are obviously trying to compete not only with other similar hotels in the area but the numerous Airbnb options that exist in town. I would say they compete very well. I am not sure of the pet policy. I didn't see any furry guests during my stay. That's about the only detail they'd need to make this place perfect. Well, that and fresh, cold water in the lounge area. I would absolutely stay here again. Maybe next time I'll bring my dog.

(Check-In is at 3pm, Check-Out is at 11am.) Loved that there is a pool (no hot tub) and a nice workout facility. The rooms were modern with smart TVs (helllllo Netflix), the were well kept and overall comfy-- with AC that could get the room as cool as we wanted and water pressure/hot water that fit the bill. The staff was friendly. There as free wi-fi, too. But the coffee situation was less than ideal. (There weren't even enough kcups for two.) Additionally, I wouldn't really call the restaurant a restaurant-- but it does offer a bar that would hit the spot. Overall, I'd stay at this Courtyard by Marriot again!

There is a small playground by the hotel and the Ankeny public library is also within walking distance. We booked two rooms with king-sized beds for our stay. The rooms are slightly smaller than the other Hilton king-size bedrooms that we have stayed at. But it is enough space for our purposes and it is equipped with a mini refrigerator, desk, and small bench. The mini refrigerator has an upper "freezer" section but it did not serve its purpose and our reusable ice-packs did not freeze up. The complimentary bathroom toiletry is interesting. They are squirt bottles attached to the wall and there are instructions indicating a gentle squeeze would do. But it never seems to work properly. It's either too little or too much. We had to ask for room service to replenish a few items. It seemed like they were short-staffed because we ended up going downstairs to pick up the items. There is complimentary parking and breakfast. Breakfast is served from 6 am to 10 am. We had a variety of the usual eggs, potatoes, sausages, and baked goods. There is also a pancake, waffle, and cereal station. The staff was efficient in keeping up with the demand. We also made use of the indoor pool on both nights around 8 pm. There were other young children in the pool with us but everybody was friendly and it did not feel over-crowded.

There are 40 rooms, each with a different theme reflecting an aspect of Iowa's history. There were originally 77 rooms with only 23 of them with indoor plumbing! The rooms are well-appointed and reasonably priced at an average of $200. I had no idea this gem existed so close to home!

To give you perspective I travel a lot for business and personal trips. This place is without a doubt my least favorite place I have stayed. It is tired and out dated and there is no way my wife would have stayed here. It was kind of clean but no way would pass a inspection if it was part of a franchise. The only toiletries provided was a small bar of soap, lotion and mouthwash - we had a laugh about that. They do have wifi and decent TV lineup and a basic continental breakfast. The bed was firm and the air conditioner worked. There are 2 other franchise options within a block of this place. I would take one of those options before staying here again.
