Beautiful, classic hotel in Downtown Bakersfield! We love staying here. Again, this time around we booked a Head Honcho Suite. They are so nice and spacious. This stay we were in room 403. The bed was super comfy and we even caught a Back To The Future Marathon on TV :) This room was a corner room just as our previous stay (in room 404) but this room's view was much better. It was right on the front corner of 18th & H Street. The sunrise was spectacular! My favorite is the jetted tub. It's super relaxing for a great "staycation" It's really cool and fills from the ceiling. Put on a Padre robe and relax! The best feeling after a long day! I have been here many times when we need to get away & relax. The rooms are big and clean but one bed was very uncomfortable. The service is great at the desk when we check in. I just wish they had more events for couples to enjoy together while staying the weekend. The rooftop is exceptional especially the fire they got going the live music and the outside heaters. I cane back to update my review and share the full story. At check-in, they asked us to put down a card for incidentals and clearly told us it wouldn't be charged since my sister had already paid for the room as a gift. However, they ended up charging our card anyway at checkout. It took almost a week--and my sister going back in person--to get it corrected, and even then they still charged her the full amount. Recently attended a WEDDING here! Did not know they hosted weddings and it was just beautiful! Everything was organized and classy. Feels like they never had the rooftop open but maybe they just have it available for events. It was so fun and the food was delicious. I have always had a hauntingly good time at the Bakersfield classic, The Padre. While chasing ghosts in this "haunted" historic local landmark is a load of fun in its own right, most recently I was here laughing the night away for a pop up comedy night with amazing talent. While a comedy event is a bit outside the norm for The Padre, there's always something fun happening at or around The Padre! If you have an event coming up, I would consider The Padre as a venue. I have attended private celebrations such as birthday parties in their rooftop outdoor event area and have always been very impressed by the set up and service. From their bar, Brimstone, with hometown history and bartenders who will let you in on the hotel's ghost stories, to a nice place to stay overnight in one of their rooms, The Padre is the perfect way to start and end your night! read more

Driving through downtown Bakersfield, you can't miss the Padre Hotel. The Padre is a historical landmark that was originally constructed almost a century ago. The Padre is surrounded with spooky lore- as any Bakersfield native will warn you, you might get more than you bargained for with a stay. There are many stories of haunted encounters because of a fire that occurred on the seventh floor in the 50s. I've heard all sorts of stories about people trying to escape from the exterior fire ladders and it's hard to know what's real or myth! Either way, this place has been featured in many a ghost hunting show. Although I've never stayed overnight at the Padre, I've visited many different times to enjoy meals and a drink. The lobby has a coffee shop and the Brimstone Bar. The bar offers a daily happy hour from 3-6pm and it's a great place to grab a drink and watch a game on one of the TVs. The hotel has nice and well kept common areas. Knowing some of the lore, the only creepy thing is that the lobby bathroom is downstairs on the basement level. In addition to the Brimstone Bar, on Thursday-Saturday evenings, their "rooftop" bar is open. (I use quotations because it's on the second floor but it provides open air access). There's often live music on Thursdays and you can grab a drink in a nice open setting. Historic boutique hotel in Bakersville California. To be honest, I really would rate it a 3.75 for the following reasons. My room had a full window view of toilet next to the bed with a thin curtain covering it. Nothing more romantic than sitting in the bed watching your husband on the toilet. Though they are comfortable, down comforters come with spiky feathers. Several times through the night I woke up being poked and even cut my leg on one of them. Quirky century old landmark hotel. Very pet friendly, we evidently arrived just before a big dog show and the place was full of big barky dogs. Despite that, the room itself was very quiet, and featured many amenities such as comfy robes, a keurig machine with good coffee pods, plenty of charging for devices, DirecTV with Showtime and cable channels. Overall quite comfortable. It was close to a five-star experience. So why am I giving it 4? There were some quirky design features to the room, which in some cases, were even a little creepy. For example a full picture window. Yeah, floor to ceiling view of the toilet from the bed. And a curtain which could be drawn from the outside so. It's quite possible for a person for someone to observe in detail things usually prive. So if you ARE filing a porno get room 516 at the Padre. That's certainly a feature. Also the sliding door to the bathroom has no handle for the inside so its just a little bit of challenge to open it back up again if you close it. Aside from those quirks, parking was just a little annoying. It is a parking lot right next to the hotel, but you have to pay the valet $18 to park there. Parking Street is free on the street at night in Bakersfield, and there's a Parking garage on the next block that is cheaper. Both to restaurants in the hotel are fine. If you want a historic Boutique hotel in Bakersfield, this is the only choice. And it's a good one. read more

I used to love The Padre but it has seen better days. The rooms need major TLC. The bed was lumpy and hard- like sleeping on an old futon. Large wet spot on the living room carpet. Mattress cover has feathers in it which are scratchy and pokey. Went to try and ask for a new topper, was told they would replace it, they didn't, instead they brought another pillow... When looking to remove the mattress topper we found that the mattress was covered in stains, hair, and food crumbs. We had 2 rooms, and used the valet for 1 car. They tried charging both rooms for the valet. When we asked them to remove the additional charge, they tried to explain that there were 2 tickets. Explained we only had one vehicle and they suddenly removed the charge. Positives... The staff was nice, restaurants in the hotel were good and responsible. However, likely would not stay again due to the cleanliness and the attempt to double charge for the car. read more

To start with the words of caution, because there are a lot of them: The windows in the rooms are NOT operable, so you're sealed in. Want decent light in the bathroom to do makeup? Too bad. Want privacy in the shower or while using the toilet? Too bad, because the shower is clear glass, and the bathroom is "open concept" with no door between the bathroom and bedroom, and no door to the WC. Seriously. Not being able to have privacy in the bathroom is low-key hostile to women in particular. Want a place to put your clothes? Too bad because the entire room has one small drawer. Want to sleep on a Sunday night? Too bad, because it's loud AF with neighboring businesses blasting dance music past 1 a.m. Bring your earplugs. There was a total of one (!?) paper cup in the room for coffee. The bar-restaurant looked okay but we didn't try it because it was noisy AF. Edit: Also, the whole time we were there, my phone didn't even see the hotel wifi; perhaps due to being in a far high corner of the building. On the good side, the staff were nice and overall the room felt modern and clean. Hotel parking is valet-only, so if you're not into that, you're better off parking in the nearby parking garage ($10/day), because *none* of the neighboring streets allow overnight parking. I'm sure experiences will vary by room type. We stayed in a corner room (called the "head honcho" style, ugh), on a high floor. It worked okay for two people who are a couple, but you couldn't make this setup work otherwise. read more

Wow, just wow!! Never ever in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that one of the coolest hotels I would come across in my lifetime would be in Bakersfield,CA!! Let's face it Bakersfield doesn't have the greatest reputation and or charm but I was totally blown away by this property!! While I wasn't expecting much, this will be probably my go to hotel while traveling up north. On top this hotel was very well reasonably priced compared to some other local hotel chains in way more worse locations. As a matter of fact, I felt quite safe in Downtown Bakersfield and would stay again in a heartbeat. The valet parking and the check in was a breeze and everyone was super friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and it's a historic landmark. The rooms are very charming but also very modern. I also was blown away by their coffee shop and their restaurants and bars. Overall this was an amazing experience and I can't wait to come back again soon!! I stayed in room 717. I called the day before to ask for the quietest room and floor. All was fantastic and service was very kind. Just 10:15 pm there was 10-min of constant knocking on a door near me. When I left in the am the front door lock/scanner fell off the door panel. I went to my meeting and folks told me about the padre history and tragedies and stories it was haunted on the upper floors. When I got back to the Bay Area I searched it. They said it was the 7th floor. Yikes! Why did they put me on the only haunted floor. read more

We broke up a trip to SoCal by staying the night at the Padre Hotel. There is just one reason why we didn't give this hotel a fifth star. Yes, it is a dog friendly property. Our dog was allowed everywhere in the hotel, including the exterior parts of the restaurants. More on that further down this review. The downside to bringing a pet here is not really the hotels fault but that of the hotel property. The hotel doesn't have a pet area so, you get to walk the streets looking for a bit of lawn or landscape bark for your pet to relieve themselves. Honestly, not a comfortable feeling once the sun goes down. The neighborhood itself is not great. Like most cities, I'm afraid. On to the good stuff. We asked for additional pillows and coffee and both were in the room before we arrived. The corner room was on the 6th floor and did have a nice view at night. The rooftop patio is where we ate the first night. The team up there was great. Aubrey, in particular, as well as Michael were both the bomb. Food for the rooftop is prepared by the Brimstone, downstairs which we were told we could not bring the dog. Told would have to eat on the patios outdoors. Okay. When we arrived all the patio furniture wa stacked up and outdoor heaters stuffed in corner. That is how ended up on the rooftop. That's ok. Their policy, right? The food was very good. We had a Crispy Fish Sandwich with Onion Rings and a BBQ Burger with Truffle Fries. The house Chard is good at 10 bucks a glass until you find out that a bottle goes for 10 bucks. Breakfast the next morning was at the Farmacy Cafe on the first floor. Here's where the dog communication was odd. We were welcomed into the Cafe, with our dog. Of course, we loved that but were confused by the communication we received about pets not being allowed inside the restaurants. Make up your mind, Padre. All in all, a good stay. The staff was great, the room nice, the food very good. We would certainly stay here again, if we were not travelling with our dog. I don't know how I slept last time but I definitely don't remember it being loud as heck all night till super late. Bass thumping boom, boom, boom, road noise etc. it's ridiculous! They make you sign a document saying you won't party or be loud but they blast music till well past 1:00 am. I am currently wide awake with no reprieve after a long drive yesterday and the one I have to do today. Carmen who booked the reservation was amazing and even provided an amenity but there really should be a disclaimer when you book. Ear plugs on the night stand would be a nice addition too. I had such a terrible experience. There was a concert outside it was so loud at the hotel. No sound proof windows. I got no quality sleep. This hotel was not as clean or looked as nice as In the pictures. The bath tub had a hair in it. We ask for them to clean the room until we came back no one ever came to clean we were gone from the room from 9: 00 am to 3 pm. My 6 year also was struggling to sleep with all the noise. FIRST OFF We had a reservation for 7PM that I had booked WEEKS in advance but when we got there we had to wait for our table because it wasn't ready for The Velvet Dinner a Valentines Day event that they threw. SECOND off the wait time four our food and our Entrees was over 2 HOURS!!!! Dear Reader: I want to let you all know that the overnight stay of ours turned out to be one of the best experiences we have had in over 30 years of marriage. From check in to check out, The Padre staff was meticulous, professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Bradee at the front desk was a delight. The room I had originally booked did not come with a bathtub. I'm a sucker for bubble baths! I was able to rebook a more suitable room with a tub by simply making a phone call to front desk staff. No problem. Our suite was beautiful and elegant; the bathroom was large, efficient and so pretty! My 2 granddaughters and my husband and I dined at the Prairie Fire rooftop cafe. The food and drinks were just what we wanted! Those espresso martinis! Perfection in a glass. My granddaughter's steak was a little undercooked and she sent it back for a re-do. She did not get her steak back in a timely manner, so asked for it to be packaged to go. No problem. Kiy and Tamara were so helpful and kind. When my husband and I got back to our room (703), we climbed into the bed and were so pleased with the bedding, pillows and ambience. We turned on the TV and were pleasantly surprised to find it worked well with the remote; other hotels we stay in always seem to have one problem or another with the TV . . . not at The Padre. No problems. In the morning, I indulged in a bubble bath and the water coming out of the ceiling made me laugh out loud. Tub was large, deep and simply delightful. We appreciated the coffee maker in the room and when that coffee was gone, we simply called for coffee to be brought to our room and Alexis A was prompt and warm and had a whole pot of coffee on her tray. . . along with cream and sugar. No problem. We had family coming to meet us in the Farmacy and when we arrived there at 10, we were seated in the Brimstone. Our large group of 8 was very comfortable there! Alexis F took our orders and delivered them shortly with perfect plates of food, refreshing drinks/coffee and she had a huge smile on her face the whole time. She treated us as if we were family. Our large diverse and jovial group was simply not a problem for the Farmacy. Lastly, Tyler completed our check out process and she is definitely one of the reasons we are writing you with this positive review. Tyler's smile, infectious laugh, efficiency, kindness and warmth are all a huge asset at The Padre. Make sure you keep her on staff along with Bradee, Kiy, Tamara, Alexis A and Alexis F. We will return to The Padre and will hope to see them all there at that time. They represent The Padre Hotel with the highest excellence and warmth. It is obvious to us that all these people love their jobs! My husband and I live here in Bakersfield and have been wanting to stay at The Padre for a year or more. I love the food here. I got the hot wings which had a great gouchujang flavor, and the Blue Burger which was awesome. I'm kinda biased Cus I love blue cheese. Our server, Tamara, was amazing! She let me know that they had Beyoncé's new whiskey 'Sir Davis' available which I've been dying to try and was delicious. For some reason we were allowed to reserve a 4pm seat for the 11am-4pm Christmas brunch....odd, but were reassured it would be ok. We were one of only 3 tables seated so no atmosphere....again we were reassured more guests would arrive...they did not. Last year champagne was included, this year it was not, yet the price was the same....our " server" said alot of things had changed from last year. The "buffet" was truly awful, cafeteria quality food. The brussels sprouts tray was only half full and luke warm, there was no dressing at all and the carver disappeared shortly after 4pm. The dessert area was a handful of cookies and some toffee cakes....certainly not in abundance and certainly not warm. There was no coffee or hot chocolate or cream. Our server was for the most part absent and clearly ready to go home. We ordered a bottle of champagne and following the first glass had to poured it ourselves. Shockingly our server then showed us a tip screen on the bill for 18% 20% 25%....lolololol. I have spoken to my friends, family and coworkers about this disgusting money grab and despite enjoying a lovely lunch at Brimstone 2 weeks ago we will never return. read more

I made a mistake coming to this hotel. I encountered many problems. One of the most significant was the freezing cold of my room. I felt like I was inside an icebox. I was freezing. I called the hotel staff several times, but received no help. It seems the heating wasn't working. The temperature inside the hotel was 43 degrees Celsius outside and 45 degrees Celsius inside the room. I didn't sleep well; I was shivering from the cold. The music was playing all night. It was chaotic. You couldn't feel comfortable, at ease, or even sleep in this hotel. It was a very unpleasant place. I feel like I wasted my money here do not believe when you ask you will be received correct answer from them. That's what happened to me. I ask them everything before I come to this hotel. They told me think over the phone and I saw a different thing inside the hotel, even breakfast, you have to pay for it there is no free food here for the Hotel guests even Thanksgiving day there was charging money for food First day they're charging me $18 for the breakfast second day they charge me $8 someone ripped me off it's the worst nightmare was my staying there. I will never forget how cold was this room. Wake me up about 2 am in the morning. Use the hot water in the shower room to keep the room warm think about it. How chaos this business. read more

We were in Bakersfield for a wedding and needed a place to stay. Having not stayed in the area before, we took a shot on The Padre after reading the reviews. Check-in was easy peasy and could be done from your phone (if you don't want to wait in line upon arrival). We stayed in The Head Honcho Suite room #704. Whenever we stay anywhere, we always play it safe and wipe down the room just to be sure everything's clean - The Padre passed with flying colors (always a huge relief)! The suite has the living room and the bedroom separated in their own sections so you can really stretch out everywhere (so much room!). There's no actual door for the main part of the bathroom (just a curtain). The toilet is behind a sliding door on one side, there's a spacious shower on the other side and the sink is in the middle. The bathtub has an interesting setup - it's not actually in the bathroom, but is just outside directly next to the king sized bed. Fyi the water comes from the ceiling like a waterfall so the side of the bed closest to the tub is a splash zone! The bed was just right (not too soft, not too hard). There are two TVs in the suite (one in the living room, one in the bedroom) but they share the same wall. This isn't a big deal, but since the TVs and remotes are exactly the same, depending on where you're standing, you might accidentally change the channel on the other side. We stayed during the brutal triple-digit heatwave fire season. Initially I was worried about the temp in the room, but it was nice and comfortably breezy during our stay. They also have strong blackout curtains so the sun doesn't fry the room. It gets loud at night with some rowdy people coming back from the bar downstairs, but it was only noticeable in the living room by the door. Apart from that, we didn't hear a peep. Overall we loved our stay. The employees we encountered were all nice and accommodating. I have to give a shout out to the valet crew - they really hustle! When it was time to check-out, there was a bit of a line at the valet but they were all hightailing it to get the cars. Be sure to tip because they're worth it! The Padre is a good place to stay for families and/or couples making families. read more

I had no issues checking in and checking out. If you pay in advance you get a better rate but it's only 20-40$. I paid cash. The incidentals deposit is 100$ and does need to have a card on file for that. The bar downstairs has an amazing drink menu, the food can be better had the Brussels sprouts appetizer. Now the room, we stayed in the Honcho Suite it's on the 5th floor and I thought the room would have a little more or be a little better. The view is great! I'll give it that but it is Bakersfield so not much lol. No parking unless in the ST or Valet and that's an extra 15$ the small Fuji waters in the room are 3$ each does have a fridge no microwave. There was some furniture in the room that was just useless there like in the walkway there was a black small dresser. The deal overly big not necessary. The tub in the room is great! Does make a mess water wise if using it. The shower is amazing the bathroom door has a farmers barn door, everything about that was beautiful, just could use a little more upgrades in a few places.
