I'm staying here at this location in Benicia cause I couldn't find a closer in location to the Bay Area, like Walnut Creek or Oakland or somewhere like that. This location seems like a former "other" hotel from the older design. Holiday Inn Express then turn it into one of theirs. The parking is weird here, you have to use the underground parking and the spots are kinda tight. Lucky for me my friend has a handicapped parking placard that we used to get good parking. Check in was fine and I got my IHG rewards points posted. My room was fine, everything worked. Maybe not the best IHG room I've stayed but serviceable. WiFi worked as that's important when working from the room. Breakfast was the usual Holiday In Express breakfast offerings. I love those cinnamon rolls! I made a sausage patty and cheese English muffin breakfast sandwich, yeah sort of like a sausage McMuffin! Tasty! Now, I have to look for a place for dinner nearby. Maybe Chinese take out! read more

Gayle and my original plans were to "centrally" meet at this Holiday Inn Express after he Stinson Trip and my Occidental event, and then take in a Berkeley Rep play the next day. Man plans, God laughs. Due to a family emergency, Gayle headed home Friday afternoon, and I kept the already "can't cancel" reservation as a "rest stop" before heading back to Genoa on Saturday. That plan was to cut down a 5 hour drive from Occidental starting a little past 5:30 PM. Thanks to Bay Area traffic, the Maps app took me past the CA 37 (Novato to Vallejo) parking lot and routed me down to the San Rafael Bridge, up East I-80, over to I-780, and down to the Motel. I then held my crabby breath as a most deliberate front desk guy plodded through a guest ahead of me, followed by the longest check-in I had experienced in a long time. Have you ever waited in line and all you could think of was how quickly you could get to a bathroom? Past that, everything was just OK - Parking - Room - Bar/Restaurant (Bottom of the 5th), Sleep Experience, and Take Away Breakfast for the Road. The lobby is probably the smallest I've ever seen. The room? First stained carpets, dark and dated furniture. Dimly lit, no USB ports. My window was partly open and I could close it but couldn't lock it. To boot, my room window looked into a courtyard sitting are. The people sitting in there could look right into my room. I stayed here a while ago and everything seemed fine at first, clean atmosphere. Staff were amazing, however the manager (short lady with glasses) made me feel very very uncomfortable and vulnerable. My boyfriend and I booked here, as we were spending the week in Benicia.!I overheard the manager lady telling her employees that people like me come and book rooms only for a few hours, insinuating that I was some kind of prost*****. This is one of the worst stays in Solano County! The carpet by the noisy elevator needs serious cleaning and deodorants! The building really need demolishing! The toilet seat was taped, and the TV using Dish cuts off daily! I asked the Manager Teresa for my points total and she claimed it takes a while, and I can get it off my phone. After waiting 1 1/2 weeks for answer, I left her a note if I did not here from her I would call corporate! I called corporate and they gave me my points!! Several days later she confronted me for calling corporate, an cancalled my last reservation because she was mad! Then had the nerve to be irritated I did not speak to her! This place is dirty, inconsistent on cleanliness and broken items in room. Plus, they will charge your for ridiculous 'smoking' charge of $250 when you don't smoke. When you let the mgr. know there are 2 alarms in the room that would have gone off had someone been smoking in the room, plus housekeeping and maintenance were in my room on different occasions and saw my nebulizer machine (breathing machine) for my asthma. Charging someone because of someone's sense of smell in a room where that person does not smoke and has evidence of the above and still being charged is outrageous and poorly managed. The manager never responded back to me after I sent my response for the charge on my credit card. Exactly what you would expect from a HIE. Very clean rooms, comfy beds, super friendly and professional staff. Standard HIE breakfast. I was given a free upgrade to my room which came with an additional bedroom and king bed. Kind of weird since it was just me traveling and what am I going to do with another bed? I'd rather have a discount or other amenity that I could actually use. How about installing USB ports or having lamps that have USB ports? I had no way of charging my devices. I'm not sure how I feel about this hotel. Even though it wasn't all bad, I don't think I'd return. There wasn't any single big problem...more like a bunch of little issues that added up. Every time we entered or exited the overnight garage under the hotel (there's a separate garage above just for check-ins), there was someone hanging around in there. I know, I know...I feel like a lame-ass Karen just writing that but it did make me feel slightly unsettled to run across people loitering every single time we came in or out because the garage is cramped and kind of dark. Often they were smoking cigarettes or weed, but other times they were just...hanging out for some reason? In the garage? Is that normal? Once we were settled in our first room (yes, there's another room involved) on the first floor, it didn't take long to realize that the people next door were determined to be part of our overnight experience. They were so exaggeratedly and comically (but not funny) loud that it seemed as though they were making a point of it. Then, once we moved to our second room on the second and ostensibly top floor (the elevator buttons only went up to 2), we were startled to hear what sounded like people walking on the roof overhead? Or does noise just carry oddly here? Oh, and there was a mini Keurig, but nothing to put in it, nor were there cups for water. In either room, hard surfaces did not always feel as though they'd been wiped down, and the carpets were not well vacuumed. We encountered smudges in places like desk chair arm rests and cabinet fronts/tops, as well as chunks of things on the carpet that the vacuum had missed. We didn't feel safe until we wiped surfaces down with our own hand sanitizing spray. To be honest, at this point we were one small incident away from just leaving. Fortunately, that was the extent of the excitement. The bathrooms were appropriately clean, and the soft surfaces (chairs, benches, mattresses, pillows) all passed our routine bedbug check. The bedding and towels were immaculately fresh and smelled great. The bed where we ended up sleeping was comfortable once we got in, but the edge was stiff enough that it was uncomfortable on the back of the legs. Not a deal-killer, but noticeable. As usual at HIE, the pillows were wonderful. The breakfast was much better than we expected. When we heard "grab and go" we figured we'd get a bag with a piece of fruit, a muffin, and a boiled egg. Turns out you can get nearly everything you'd normally see at the breakfast buffet, except that a staff member plates it up for you. We shared pancakes and warmed sausage/egg breakfast sandwiches and could have had scrambled eggs as well if we'd wanted. There were also the usual pastries, bread, bagels, yogurt, juice, and coffee. I really liked the coffee. Staff were all friendly and helpful. When I called Fernando to ask for the new room, there were no questions asked. He immediately took care of it. Whenever we crossed paths with housekeeping, they smiled and greeted us. Anna was another stand-out. She was handling breakfast and was very personable and easy to talk to. What a great attitude that girl has. And she's a hard worker...when we left an hour later, we found her cleaning up in the garage. Manager, take note! All in all, it wasn't a terrible time, but I'd try the Best Western nearby if I were staying overnight in the area again. read more

Not one USB port in the room. No AC plug power on any lamps. No bedside plugs easily available. Smallest and oldest flat screen TV on the planet (32" low grade Dynex brand, 720p resolution screen. Hint: old box TVs were 480). You need binoculars to see it from the bed. TV remote the size of a Russian U-boat. Microwave is so tiny and old that you might mistake it for the in-room safe. Typical Keurig coffee burner. Plenty of room for a small bench or additional raised platform to put your suitcase on...but, oh, no. That would be too much to ask. Nothing worse than setting your suitcases on the disgusting carpet. I ended leaving the lobby cart in my room to set my suitcases on. Underground parking is good and free...except BE CAREFULL in large pickups!! The overhead entry bar to show height limit is higher than their HVAC duct work in the back of the garage. Good way to get your truck's roof scalped. Wasn't told about any of the breakfast served or other amenities. Poor check-in by young clerk...but that's a management issue. Train them well. I've been a steady Diamond Elite member for years. I won't return to this hotel. Not business traveler friendly. I mean...even Motel 6 has USB ports. NOTE: Photos are from past stays. The hotel itself is lovely, and the young man at the front desk was very nice and very respectful. He made check in very easy and I got a great room. The problem had to do with the confirmation letter. It had the numbers 666 in it. I booked the reservation through IHG. I have been a member for a while and you get points and discounts. I just resigned and closed my account. I felt that any company that could be THAT INSENSITIVE to give out that number is not one I want anything to do with. I am even going to call up churches and inform them. From what I understand, this happened because I booked through IHG. It was NOT because of Holiday Inn. Staff was very nice. The person who makes the breakfast was great. The rest is not so good. The beds are about 15 years past their lifetime. Oversoft from wear and tear and you can feel the springs and metal edges of the mattress. It was uncomfortable. The room smelled "thick" and musty. The carpet was beyond gross and the iron was so grimy. Discovered I lost my house key after leaving my husband at the hospital around 1:00 a.m. on June 10, 2023. To add to my misfortune, I left my cell phone in the house. So I chose to get a room at Holiday Inn Express in Benicia, California until daylight. I needed a decent place to rest and a phone for a few hours until I could find a locksmith. Since there were no phone books in the hotel, the night clerk was kind enough to assist me by researching the internet. I deeply appreciate his consideration and kindness. However, when the morning light illuminated the room, I saw BEDBUGS on the bedspread!! The coffee maker didn't work, and the furniture was tattered. Definitely overpriced and BEDBUGS!! Ugh. Unfortunately, I didn't have my phone to take pictures. I hurriedly dressed while praying that no bugs got on me or my clothes. I rushed to the front desk to inform the clerk (a different one) on the BUGS, broken coffee maker, etc. He just stared, looking stunned, and didn't respond. I heard it before. One can not stop themselves from singing one of those songs you hear on the radio when you say, "Holiday Inn" but quite honestly, I do not recall staying at a Holiday Inn that has disappointed me. I personally enjoy hotels, and I haven't been to a Holiday Inn in a while. I noticed a few renovations to their structures, an upgrade in their design logo, and so forth, but when I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Benecia, CA I can hope and assume that other Holiday Inn Express hotels elsewhere were as accommodating, clean, and modern as this one. Benecia is a small town in norther California, and what surrounded this modern decor of a hotel was a old town of vintage American homes and reminiscent community of military days. Because this Holiday Inn Express is located near such a beauty of a town, I invite visitors to stay at this hotel. The modern decor is amazing. It was a soothing blend of colors, and the ceilings are quite high. The 2 bedroom Queen was roomy enough to accommodate the four people staying in one room, and my room was attached to our third room, which the hotel was willing to work with me to get. The service both on the phone and in-person was inviting. I was greeted every time I entered the lobby. Since we were in town for a wedding, my cousin and his bride worked with the hotel to reserve rooms at a fair cost, less than $100/night. My cousin also provided the hotel snacks to give to the guests upon arrival. Free wifi. Cable television is basic. Like all Holiday Inn Express (HIE), they offer a breakfast with eggs, some meat, and biscuit (freshly warmed in the small kitchen). Now it's not a complete kitchen, so nothing is fresh made to order, BUT you do get an array items from a continental breakfast. The eating area is large, available to seat small and large groups. And if your morning joe includes a TV screen, this location has that. There is also a workout room, where my niece and nephew started their mornings with a 5 miles run on the treadmill and elliptical. Overall, a great experience. read more

I stayed at the holiday Inn express benicia this last weekend. Let me tell you the good the bad and the ugly. The good - the night check in gentleman my 1st night (friday april 8). He's the main reason the hotel even got 2 stars. If it was soley based on him, it would have allot more stars. He also was cool with many people coming and going with the wedding and the fire that happened the next day. The bad- I had booked a 2 bedroom suite for a local wedding at the the benicia clock tower (I was the bride, and a long time benicia resident who needed space to breath and get ready the next day with the girls). While the room was ok. A little old, it was clean. But unfortunately the ac was not working the 1st night, and no room in comparible size was available to move to, a small room would not work when the bridesmaids came to get ready. They did offer me a discount on the room. My husband came and brought me a house fan so I could cool off the room (yay for personal summers). He also had a maintenance guy come the next morning to fix it. (Thank goodness). Now to the ugly. While this was not a direct problem with my room, but a bridesmaids room. I personally witnessed it all. Shes not one to complain. But i feel this needs to be shared. One of my bridesmaids came with her daughter and checked in later that night. Thier 1st room stunk like cigarette smoke bad, it was fresh, and burnt her eyes. They moved her to another room. Their 2nd room, she was moved next to party guys being super loud, but she didn't mind so much because the room didn't stink. She came and checked in on me in my room, but within a few minutes she gets a frantic call from her daughter, the shower door had fallen and shattered on her and all pver the bathroom (even in the sink and toilet) as she got in the shower (see the pic- notice the metsl bar with rollers, thsts not supposed to essily be removed). We ran to her room, She was obviously shooken up, got her dressed and cleaned up the scratches. A couple staff (not the gentleman who checked us in earlier) members came and saw it, and some of her wounds. Luckilu she didn't need to go to the hospital. They moved her to a new room. The new room, i checked the shower door, it was off its bottom track (but not top. And was swinging. (The shower in my room was fine and didn't move like that). Her daughter didn't want to shower in her room, (i don't blame her) The next morning they asked for her to write what happened, she didn't have time at that moment with the wedding and dealing with a fire by the venue all. But Sunday when she was going to, while checking out, she asked for staff names, the hotel number or any corporate information for her own records, but was refused any information, so she did also in return. And didnt write a statement for their incident report. She also wasn't offered a discount or comp or anything after all this. (Though i was for a non working ac) They said it was because she booked from a 3rd party site. Though she booked online on their site. But that shouldn't matter, they could have offered her something! It was their pos hotel rooms! She will be reaching out to corporate ihg this week. So would I recommend this hotel? That's a big hell no. If you are getting married in Benicia, or need a hotel room for any reason, like local refinery workers) I know hotel options are slim, and I normally say support local, but not this place. ANY OTHER place, even crossing the bridge would be a better option. I am making sure my wedding planner and all my vendors know the situation and to spread the word. This is the express version of the holiday in hotel chain, benecia edition which punches far above it's weight. Parking-especially for check in-is a little wonky. The kinda sorta not quite but really kinda underneath the first floor parking is riddled with tiny spaces and structural pillars which have to be carefully maneuvered around/in to get to the dingy elevator that you'll need to use to get to the check in desk. Not fun at all in a large vehicle but manageable enough for most cars. If you are in a u-haul just head for the larger, wide open back lot. You'll never fit in the covered parking. The fifth street parking is the easiest to get into for check in-except that the lobby entrance is off of nth street. so you've still got to trek around the corner. Once you get in however, check in is as smooth as silk. Anywhoo the good news is that the parking is the only part of the hotel that is just average. The interior is brand new, modern, impeccably clean and very welcoming. The staff are extraordinary. They are tightly focused, sharp, efficient and friendly. They really take pride in themselves and the community and it shines through. Breakfast is continental style which means basic ready serve stuff-coffee, sweets, fruit, yogurt cups. juice and heat and serve sausage/eggs. They do have an automated pancake maker which is fun the first time and a hit with kids. The real bonus with the breakfast is the morning staffer who really goes out of her way to help. They've a sun room kinda thing which is nice and the gym while small is like the rest of the hotel brand new and immaculately kept up. Overall this was the best hotel we stayed at on our napa trip(for which we were totally headed for the snooty wineries not any of the those lowbrow totally awesome breweries.) and compares well-even if it is an express location in small town-with the places we stayed at in santa rosa, mostly due to the extra small touches by the staff. read more

If you don't mind a little more of a walk (slightly over a mile) you can walk all the way down to the fishing pier and plenty of eating options. This, right off the bat, made me feel uneasy about staying at this hotel because that made me think that they probably aren't taking the COVID cleaning seriously either. Anyways. My suspicions were literally confirmed a few hours later. I had just finished washing my face and pulled back the covers to get in bed, and there was a ROACH underneath my covers! WTF??!! Stayed here this past weekend for a wedding. It's small and cozy but the rooms have recently been renovated and they were nice. The rooms on the 2nd floor face the sun lounge/seating area so you don't really have privacy if you open your drapes. They have sheers as well as darker drapes so no one can see your biz at night. The walls are pretty thin as I was able to hear the lady next door on a phone call clear as day. She woke me up really early in the morning with her loud self. Later in the day she sat in the lounge area where she continued her phone conversation with no shame. I liked that this place serves a free breakfast from 6 to 10am, and the nice kind too with hot stuff like fresh pancakes, bacon, sausage, omelettes, etc. Nice selection of juices, coffee and tea as well. Yogurt and bagels and even little cinnabons! They have a gym too which I didn't use, but I was disappointed that there is no pool on premises, as I was looking forward to a little relaxation from the loud lady but oh well. No problems here at all! Great deal on line too! It was only .6 miles from a wedding venue for our friend's wedding. Other than that, not sure if there is a ton of stuff to do in Benecia. When we got here, it was easy to find, but parking was a bit confusing. Parking is 2 levels (may be confusing) but there's like a parking lot with 6 parking stalls, but there's additional parking connected to it. But the 2 nights we stayed we had no problems actually finding a spot. Free parking though and the parking lot kind of under/to the side of the hotel, so it's not far. You'll need your key card to access the elevator to the lobby/rooms. They have free breakfast until 10AM, full breakfast with Chobani yogurt, breakfast cereals, make your own pancakes, omelettes, bacon, turkey and pork sausages, hot oatmeal, coffee/tea/milk chocolate/hot cocoa. We were actually impressed with the selection! We thought it was going to be a lot less food or options. And there's TV's on with the news and quite packed. There's water on every floor by the elevators - 2nd floor and 1st floor with lemons and oranges inside. We thought that was a plus because we got in pretty late the 1st night and didn't have time to go get water. No problems during our entire stay. We even had some friends over after the wedding. The room is larger than most rooms, so it was easy to have more people over! We didn't bring a cork screw, so had to ask the front desk for a corkscrew, and they were totally fine with it and just asked for us to leave it on our room when we check out. We thought that was so great that they had it available and didn't charge us or anything! A nice hotel choice in an out of the way sort of town. I stayed here for meetings I had down the road in Concord and was happy with the selection. The hotel is located in an older section of town and it looked a little sketchy when I arrived after dark. Dining options around are slim to none so pack some beef jerky or be prepared to go hungry until the free breakfast in the morning. Rooms were clean and the place is well taken care of. There is well-lit parking under the hotel and the staff was extremely friendly. One caution is that you have to pay a $5 toll to get over the bridge to this area. This hotel is the worst. And unfortunately, we still have 3 more nights to stay here. First off, our room was hot and muggy and the thermostat needed batteries. I go to ask the front desk if they can send someone to go fix it so we can turn the air on. Or give me new batteries and I would do it. There was a sweet kid waiting the front desk that was completely alone. He said there was no maintenance guy for the weekend and he had no batteries. So we went and bought batteries ourself and fixed it. The air turned on and the dust was so bad all of our throats and eyes were burning. At this point it was midnight and we had been up since 4 in the morning and couldn't fathom dragging my kids to another room. I then go ask for an additional blanket, and he let us know that they don't have extra blankets. But could give us a sheet. What hotel doesn't have extra blankets?? The beds are super old and uncomfortable. And at 7am on a sat morning there is insane loud music coming from the parking lot below us. This place sucks. Don't stay here. read more

Anthony at the front desk is a rude kid who can use a class is hospitality! The hotel is a new hotel but the room is very weathered. if you have a sensitive nose this is not your place. Animal odor covered in heavy carpet deodorizer - it was such a heavy smell in the air it let me with a nauseated stomach. Bed was the worst. No coffee in room you have to fetch it at the front desk - the bathroom was dingy and un sanitized. We had a great stay there. The staff was very friendly, and the best part was they allowed me to keep my bicycle in my room. I was truly sorry for spilling my coffee on the breakfast table. The person on staff for the breakfast was amazingly helpful, and was quick to react, and handle the situation. Kudos to her. read more

Standard Holiday Inn located in the old capital town of Benicia. This hotel is exactly what you are expecting from a Holiday Inn Express hotel. Nothing special or extraordinary at this location. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms are not cramped. The breakfast area has a large room and the food is ample. The fitness is not the smallest but it's not that large either. Outdoor running is safe in the area and there are many routes to choose. The hotel is located right off the highway. There is a local bar and convenient store adjacent to the property. You are only a quick drive from downtown Benicia, which is a great bedroom community. Enjoy your stay and explore Benicia. read more

In Martinez for a basketball tourney this weekend. This was the closest thing to a decent hotel around. Did not mind paying $5 toll. HIE so worth it. Had a late check in & when we arrived guy said he was up grading us to a suite. I did not ask why just said Thank You. Lol the room was HUGE for being a HIE. 2 queen beds & a pull out. Our room even had a PS2. (so bring your games & controllers. They will only lend you 1 controller. Had a few games too.) The pull out was not made & it was horrible. We put pillows under the mattress to make it more comfortable. I called down to front desk he quickly brought me the stuff for ME to make it! That's why only 3 stars & they did not have a pool. Very clean rooms. Looks like the front desk guy Paul was doing it all by himself. Not to bad on the eyes either. :-). They front desk was not very helpful with local spots to eat. We ended up just getting in the car & wondering. Make a right on Military there is a KFC, Starbucks & Safeway. Other than that just mom & pop restaurants. Oh yea no kid police here. There was a softball team staying & the parents were letting the run a muck! No concern for other guest or their kids safety. I love staying at HIE because of their breakfast. Except this time. How are you going to have biscuits with no gravy. No Tabasco sauce. No hard boiled egg& to top it off the pancake maker was out of service. Thank God for the Starbucks down the street cause coffee was horrible. Overall was Ok stay. read more

NOT YOUR ORDINARY HOLIDAY INN. Be pleasantly surprised by this new Holiday Inn. Super tall ceilings, high quality upgrades, relatively new beds, flatscreen tv, free parking, free wi-fi, free breakfast before 10AM (coffee, juice, milk, yogurt, eggs, sausage, cinnamon buns - so good, biscuits, and "fresh" pancakes and syrup, some fresh fruit, cereal, and other carbs). This is 2nd time we've stayed at this Holiday Inn (both times b/c of weddings in the area), both times we were pleasantly satisfied by the $:Quality ratio. If you want to be meticulous, this place isn't the W or even the JW, but it strives hard to get there for the cost. The upgrades are upgrades, but their 2nd or 3rd rated upgrades, meaning there are imperfections and minor flaws in the granite, the mirrors, wallpaper, carpet, etc.. but you'll hardly notice it, especially if you come back drunk from an awesome wedding. My entire experience was perfect. Checking in late in the evening, I was given a bag a chips, a candy bar and a bottled water. What a thoughtful greeting. I loved that there was open plug next to the bed for my phone, pillows labeled as "firm" and "soft", a USA Today newspaper waiting for me in the morning, a copy of my bill and a decent hot breakfast. Usually, all of these helpful details are only given from much pricier hotels. This place is well worth the money. read more
