FIVE STARS for Darlene at the front desk for keeping it all going on Sunday morning Oct. 27, 2019. Working alone, she somehow made us all really feel like it was "a Great Day at the Best Western Benicia!" as we staggered into the lobby in various shell-shocked states of anxiety after being awakened at 4 AM with a unexpected Mandatory Evacuation order from the Kincade fires. And that was during the Carquinez Bridge Fire and the PGE outages. Oh my. Throughout it all, Darlene seamlessly shifted from guest to computer to phone to radio, reassuring us all that our day was about to improve. And kept the coffee fresh and hot, keeping her sunny, cheerful disposition the entire time. I've stayed here before and Darlene has always been superlative, however last Sunday deserves recognition. I sincerely hope the Best Western Corporation realizes what a gem they have in her. read more

Used to be a very nice place to stay was there a couple of months ago the real smell like dog and down here elderly manager seems like she went out of her way to be extremely rude. There's a different clientele there now as well. There was a huge arrest there the other day used to have friends and family stay there never again apparently there's mold in the rooms. I love Best Westerns. If you are traveling to or through the area I recommend this hotel. They have excellent services for families and their pets. They were attentive and kind. You made a mistake? We don't care. My wife accidentally confused this location with another given that they share the same specific name and exact room rate. Decided to stay the night because they were close to the Vallejo to San Fran ferry. The room was clean and had nice firm beds. AC blew cold, good WiFi, pool, spa, and pet friendly. $30 night for your pet, which is still a bit high but one of the cheaper options ( did a lot of research). I loved the double shades over the windows because it made the room really dark at night. Near the freeway but thankfully didn't near any noise from it. 7-11 within walking distance. Great breakfast that had everything from cereal, muffins, Juice, sausage, eggs, yogurt, waffles, potatoes, oatmeal and more. Total for 2 nights was $300 but everything in the Bay Area is expensive. Great for the short time I was there in between my daughter's wedding events near by in Hercules and The lighthouse! Great mainly to shower, get ready to go, returned late to sleep seem to be quiet, peaceful, safe, and clean or I was really exhausted ! Benicia has very few hotels and we were relieved to find this one. It's a bit on the old side but was fine for our purposes. Our room was spacious except for the smallish bathroom. Staff was friendly during checkin. We stayed for five nights and overall were happy with our stay. Breakfast was plentiful and there were several choices, hot and cold items. A big improvement over their grab-and -go bag-style breakfast offered during the pandemic days previously. One annoying trend was that our large pillows were very hard and uncomfortable. I was glad we brought softer pillows from home. If you want room service, fresh towels etc, you will need to notify housekeeping. We were told this at checkin so we asked for fresh towels as needed and it was no problem. read more

First of all, I'd like to be perfectly honest and wasn't expecting very much considering my past experience with Best Western. So, much to my surprise; This particular location is by far the best I've ever stayed in and will from now on be my first choice to stay. My fiancé and I came on a Sunday morning, driving from an early flight from Sacramento. Thus allowing us to arrive earlier then the check in time. By either a stroke of faith or possibly just plain luck. We were greeted by Darlene at the front desk. I have to say, she excelled my expectations as a front desk agent. She welcomed us with a smile, an awesome personality, and she was very accommodating to our early arrival. She was very thorough with our check-in making it fast and painless as possible. If I could put a zero star I would. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!! I called and booked a hotel suite, with a secluded bedroom inside the hotel suite, paid over the phone reserved it ....well at least I thought I did. My Fiance went and checked in before picking me up from work 30 mins later. When we got to the hotel I immediately knew this is not the room I asked for. There was no bedroom inside on this suite. Basically all it was a counter with a microwave and a balcony to a normal standard room for $326 dollars! I immediately went down stairs to the front receptionist and spoke with them. They knew they messed up and started looking for rooms...come to find out the hotel doesn't even have suites that have secluded private rooms in them. and of course, The room that could adjoin to our room was reserved already, so basically the best they could do was put us in two rooms across from one another on the next floor, but obviously that wouldn't work, since we had a child that can't stay in a hotel room by themselves. We sat in the lobby and called around till we found a hotel suite with a secluded room in it. We then told the people up front we found another hotel we were gunna go ahead and grab our bags and head back down here for our refund. The room was left in amazing condition, we hadn't even unpacked yet. So we go to check out and the receptionist tells us sorry in order to get out refund we would have to come back tomorrow to get it from the manager they are the only ones allowed to do refunds. We figured no problem it was late now and we live in the same town, not a big deal we will be back tomorrow.....the next day comes my fiancé goes into the best western and speaks to the manager Geraldine, who was a total b**** from the start (excuse me language) I was completely shocked on how unprofessional and rude she was right from the start. She basically said in the nicest way your not getting your money back you were here for a couple hours and the room was a mess...my fiancé and I were shocked! It was so far from the truth we were both speechless. We had been so nice and understanding with these people forgot to all come down to this....Mind you were not talking $50 or $100 bucks were talking $326. My Fiance who is often more laid back at situations like this even offered to pull out a cleaning fee out of the room and refund the rest please. Wouldn't even accommodate that. So after all this we basically paid $326 dollars for a room that was not what we wanted nor where we even stayed. We paid $326 dollars for a room for an hour total maybe and for a nasty rude manager to do anything but accommodate the customer instead she was so rude and nasty. I will never stay at this hotel and honestly be careful booking cause if you book a room and they don't book the right one for you, most likely you won't get your money back! And as far as Geraldine she should be fired how she talks to customers. She is the farthest thing from a manger I would ever want managing my company it's almost pathetic! Everything was good except the breakfast. The person who checked us in was helpful and friendly (I didn't get their name), the room was clean and comfortable, and we slept well. The complementary grab-and-go breakfast (no buffet because of COVID) was cheap and unhealthy, which was a surprise because the hotel gets good pre-COVID reviews for their buffet breakfast which tells they have a good budget for breakfast and don't need to cheap-out on the grab-and-go. I know COVID is a challenge for all of us, but Best Western has had 7 months to work on providing a good breakfast. My bag breakfast included a pre-packaged Smucker's Uncrustables PB&J, Betty Crocker chocolate chip oatmeal bar, Tropicana juice beverage, an apple and milk (the only healthly part). That's a whopping 91% of the daily recommended sugar intake and a lot of highly processed food. I threw away everything except the apple and milk and left hungry. I suggest they consider adding healthier options like other hotels I've stayed in recently, such as breakfast burritos, hard boiled eggs, real juice in a tetra pack, a high-quality low-sugar protein bar, or yogurt, to show their customers they are valued. read more

I hope this post gets shared because every time I think about it I get pissed. I will be posting on yelp and other review sites as well. My friend recently was booked at the Best Western in Benicia. She had a rate for about $150 a night, she was running late and despite having called, they gave her room away to a family who had been evacuated during the Napa fire. This was totally understandable, what is not however, is that they mentioned that FEMA and the Red Cross were paying for the hotel rooms and that they were charging almost double for the rooms. To put the bottom line before people in this type of disaster is totally disgusting. I believe other hotel chains are guilty of this type of practice as well. read more

I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN. Deborah helped me check in... I used to come here allll the time for years I've been in their system. I check in last night & get treated like a little kid.. They had asked me to fill out a "no party form" I've NEVER been asked to fill one out before & I was just here last week. I get inside my room & the air conditioner doesn't work.... Then the light doesn't work..... Then I take a shower & there is man pubes on the wall... I'm a woman with no hair so it's not me lol (EW) I work late so I came back to my room about 4:00am I called to request a late check out (I believe her name was Heather) & she told me the latest they could check me out was 12:30 am. I get a call early this morning asking if I'm staying or checking out... I told them I had late check out ... The lady apologized I went back to bed... It was 11:36 AM & I recurve yet ANOTHER call I went to pick up my phone but no one was there all of a sudden my hotel phone doesn't work! LOL So I continue to call from my cell phone.. They put me on hold & DEBORAH gets on the phone telling me that I was supposed to be out by 11 & there is no record of me requesting a late checkout so I need to be out by 12 AM. (That's like 20 mins are you kidding me) I tell her no I asked for the late checkout for a reason. Puts me on hold AGAIN. Then tells me "There is no record you were supposed to be out by 11AM so will you be out of your room by 12 Samantha yes or no??" SO RUDE. I told her no!! I REQUESTED A LATE CHECKOUT FOR A REASON. I said I would be out as soon as possible but this is ridiculous nothing has been pleasant about my stay & she straight up HUNG UP ON ME.. I haven't checked out yet I went straight to write this review I was so mad. Since when has it been about the hotels priorities coming first I thought your goal as a hotel is to make a comfortable stay for a customer. DEBORAH IS RUDE. I got this room for $139 all said and done after searching many sites...tedious work. The rooms and the hotel in general had a smell to it as if their air freshener was covering up something. Not pleasant. At least the window in the room could be opened. Front desk suggested top floor for quietness. Mmmm...ok. The freeway could be heard from my room. I could hear the people in the next rooms. Doors slamming. People yapping it up in the hall at all hours. Room was clean.Bed comfortable. Iron and ironing board and blister in room. The clerk insisted I show her " Paperwork" for my service dog, she also asked me what my disability was and made me show her proof. There was a bit of confusion on my end and Melody was super helpful getting both me and my 9 month pregnant wife a room as well as my parents. I fully and 100% recommend this hotel! The room was clean, comfortable and nice. The bed was very comfortable (we had a king) and the pillows were comfortable as well. The room had been newly renovated and updated. There were USB Ports as well as plugs on the walls above the nightstand and the same outlets by the tv. The fridge was pretty big for a mini fridge and the bathroom was clean and spacious. The ONLY downside was the shower head as it only had one function and sprayed really high so water leaked onto the floor and you had to stand at the far wall to be under the water, And the staff was really friendly! read more

I've stayed here on business 5-6 times now, and while it's not great, it's not been terrible either. Face it. There just aren't a lot of hotel options in Benicia. I've tried the Holiday Inn Express several times, but the rooms are dingy and the front desk staff was never friendly. One time, Holiday Inn bumped us and made arrangements for us to stay at this Best Western instead, and ever since then, I've been staying at the Best Western when I'm in Benicia on business (3 times per year). While the rooms are adequate for a 1-night's stay, the complimentary breakfast is never special. In fact, it's pretty bad. The offerings are dismal. Sometimes I just want a basic bagel, but they don't offer them. The selections are filled with sugar (pastries) or crappy meat products filled with preservatives. Even the bananas are over-ripened. I really wish there was a Hilton brand property in Benicia, but for now, I'm stuck at the Best Western. At least they have a small fitness room where I can get my sweat on, and at least the front desk staff have always been quite friendly. read more

We decided to support a local community since we were going to dinner down the road rather than driving half an hour home. We checked in, got into room 215 which had a foul musty scent. The mirror on the closet was dirty with sticky debris. Went for the front desk, told them about the odor, the front desk gave us a bottle to spray the room. The odor still didn't disappear so we went to the Dollar Tree to buy disinfectant and air freshener. Went to the swimming pool, which had bandage, insect, and hair ties at The bottom. The bed spread had holes and tears. For $239.00 plus tax and fees, it was a waste of money. I gave a one star because the staff does take the time to greet. We have stayed there in the past with a pleasant experience. We were very disappointed and won't waste the money again. read more

We opened the window all the way but so cold and was really hard to stay there. Breakfast was below ok. My disappointment was customer service including security boy. Not sure how you rate hotels. I expect hotels to be clean and the staff courteous. That will get you 3 stars. What makes this four star? The staff for one. I could not... for the life of me... figure out how to TURN ON the TV! lol. Called front desk and had maintenance there in 5 minutes. Food for two. During the week they offers food at 5 or 6 pm. This could be hamburgers, nachos, spaghetti... you name it... along with wine or soda. When traveling solo, this is nice. They also have a nice breakfast with warm items. Over all clean hotel. Welcoming receptionist. Maid service is great. The ladies do a wonderful job straightening up and refreshing our room while we're out for the day. Pool is clean & refreshing on the hot summer days as well as the hot tub for the evenings. A plus is they have seats to drop you in the pool or hot tub for those that are unable to walk in on their own. Continental breakfast is simple, dry cereal, waffles, yogurt, boiled eggs, coffee, juice fresh fruit. Staff works hard to keep replenishing as needed. Over all a great stay & will return if in ttheres. Only thing I'd recommend is bleach to be poured in the drains of sinks & tubs because of bad odor they give out. read more

After a long day.. and a mix up with other reservation. . I called Expedia to find other accommodation in the area I was in.. I was so exhausted n frustrated I didn't care what kind of room I got I just wanted to sleep. Expedia was able to locate Best Western in Benicia, Ca. I was thinking from my experience from my home town that we were about to stay in a cap whole. I was amazed when I arrived at the hotel. It was located in a very nice area right off the freeway. Staff was courteous and helpful. Our room was AMAZING! Clean and a lot of room. We had an executive King room. Wonderful jacuzzi tub.. mini fridge, microwave and a single cup coffee pot (didn't use as much because lobby always have coffee ready!. They had mentioned a breakfast. I was thinking normal continental basics. To my surprise the had hot foods too.. biscuits and gravy and sausage and eggs. Not Gourmet but still better than pastries and cereal, which they also had. Too any choices to choose from. We ended up staying an extra day. During our stay we ventured off and explored the town. Right down the way (maybe a mile or 2) was a pier with plenty of shops to explore. Come to find out its part of the towns historical walking tour. Went into an old antique shop (The Golden Horseshoe) which was awesome on its own if u like that kind of thing which we did. Had a great lunch n then back to the room to rest again. Oh did I mention the rooms had bathrobes available too.. all in all we had a wonderful weekend getaway! Definitely planning a trip again! read more

My husband stay here during the week of 12/6/16 and his room and his friends room (that was 9 rooms away) were both horribly infested with bed bugs!!! My husband was hospitalized as a result of the number of bites inflicted on him. He suffered from severe pain, swelling, itchiness, discoloration of the skin, as well as the inability to sleep due to pain and itching. He was told by the office staff that they didn't have bed bugs and was refused when he asked to switch rooms. As a result, he had to cut his business trip short by one day and change his flight home. This review isn't about the hotel conditions but it's about the check-in policy. Seems that, unlike other hotels, there is no complimentary early check-in whether they have rooms available or not. This hotel will charge people an additional $30 if you want to check-in earlier. I was a travel agent for 14 years and I have to say that I've never encountered this before UNLESS they were fully booked up and had to do a rush cleaning of a room but that's not what I was told when I called them this morning. This hotel was great for the price that we got (and it was also on new year's eve). I think it was $100 for the night, and we got a nice king bed with a whirlpool bath in our room. There was also a pool and hottub at the facility but we didn't use it. And we got breakfast in the morning, some bagels, cookies, pastries, cereal, yogurt, fruit and juice, milk or coffee to choose from. The hotel was clean and nice enough for a last minute one night stay. So if you're ever in Benicia, this place is a good choice =) read more

Came to Benicia for my friend's birthday party extravaganza and there were no Hyatt's nearby to add to my zillion Hyatt points....so we tried Best Western. Now....I'm trying to remember the last time I even stayed at a Best Western, 20 years ago maybe? I must say I was pleasantly surprised! Nice location, pleasantly designed entry lobby and easy, friendly check-in. Nice, clean quiet room and excellent price! I would stay here again in a heartbeat and though I can't yet change my Hyatt loyalty, if Hyatt isn't a choice, my first search would be Best Western Heritage Inn Hotel. A very nice woman answered, Heather. She gave me a great price 40 dollars better then the website. She was very friendly, I would give her a raise myself, if I could. Because of her great customer service I would gladly recommend and stay at this location again... Really private hotel, tucked away on east 2nd in benicia. A bit pricey (paid $175 + $50 deposit) but it did feel like a safe place to be and the room was nice. Check in took awhile, considering i had booked the room through a hotels app. Room had a good sized fridge, shower worked great. Beds were probably fulls and not queens, seemed smaller. But would stay here again, quality place. read more
