After spending time exploring downtown Martinez's antique shops and farmers market, we headed over to Five Suns Brewing Company for lunch and refreshments. It was a beautiful day, perfect for sitting outside and listening to live music. The staff was extremely helpful, answering all of our questions and even offering tastes of their beers and sours. I'm not usually a fan of sours, so I went with the Ernst Amber Ale, while my friends ordered the Cosmo Sour and the P-Wing Sour. For sours, they were surprisingly tasty. I may have to give them another chance. Street Steam Bunz was the food truck of the day, and we ordered rice bowls with bulgogi beef and chicken katsu. Both were served with fried rice, ginger, and pickled cucumbers, and everything was delicious. A great way to spend a Sunday. Five Suns and Street Steam Bunz both earn five stars from me. read more

We met some friends at Five Suns for a couple of beers on a leisurely Saturday. Our first time here, but our friends are regulars and spoke highly of this spot. Nice, casual spot to hang out. The staff is friendly and helpful, and happy to make suggestions and provide samples. Prices are actually reasonable, noticeably more so than comparable places. I had an OG Burst, and a Ghost Moon Pilsner. The pilsner was very good. RB had the Granger porter and enjoyed it. There is a food truck by the patio, from which we ordered a grilled cheese, which was good. You can also bring in outside food if you prefer. Went here the other evening with family and friends. It was my first time and I really enjoyed it. Lots of outdoor seating and family and dog friendly. I didn't try the food, but I got a flight of beers to try since I couldn't decide. Will definitely be back to try the other beer flavors. I wish I got the girls name who helped us. One of my favorite East Bay breweries. The beer garden is very nice with plenty of tables to choose from. Lots of flowers, fire pits, long tables, and umbrellas. They only sell bar snacks, so there is almost always a food truck outside and they allow outside food. I love the Martinez lager and their sour. I am a big sour fan and the pomegranate, plum, prickly pear sour is one of my favorites that I have ever tried! They have lots of space indoors as well. The staff are always friendly. This was first time here for us. Friends and frequent flyers suggested this place. So first off, back in the day I use to drink a lot of beer, especially when I finally crawled off my tractor and stumbled out of the field. Farming days. Today not so much, but given that, I still love a nice porter or stout, nitros or not, once in awhile. First item I spied on the menu was a Porter and it was mine. I think my partner had some pilsnerish or hevi thing. Nice indoor area and outside patio. We started outside but moved inside after awhile since the sun kept chasing us. There was a food truck on the street for eats and we also got something from another place down the street. As with the trend now days these beer places are all dog friendly and of course bring the kids and get them started early on the alcohol trajectory of trashed livers. For some reason the parents think it's perfectly ok for the kids to run around recklessly, kick balls and throw objects at unprotected patrons while they keep their dogs on a tight leash. Maybe it should be the other way around. Just something to think about. Overall a nice place with friendly staff and good beer. Also wine selections. Five Suns is a very large brewery space in the center of Main. Equipped with a tap room, fire pits in an expansive open patio, and a hidden recreational upstairs loft, it's easy to find a space to chill. I am just chilling, you know. I went with the citrus - primed brew and hung out on the patio. Music blared from the neighboring food hall space and patrons lined up at the food truck when their orders were called. Service is slim, but adequate when most walk up to the bar for drinks. Lines do form as a series of customers would be buying six packs to go. They also operate unofficially as a remote work area since I've seen laptops out on several visits. read more

It appears they partner with a local winery, Viano Vineyards. I tried their Chardonnay and - even though I'm not really a big Chard fan - it was FANTASTIC! It was raining so we decided to go inside and enjoy our beer. With high ceilings and stone floors, the noise level was a little high, but it calm down after a bit. We were there during a busy period and were immediately greeted at the counter by the smiling Vicki. we made our orders there were four of us so we ordered a variety of beers, sodas, spritzer, and enjoyed ourselves immensely. I really enjoyed the fact that I was able to go in there and people were there with their dogs and their dogs were well-behaved and fun to be with. the general customer grouping was very relaxed and friendly and sharing with each other and it made us feel real comfortable being from another area I am the beer drinker in the group so I ordered which sounded like an interesting choice from me and it was the DIPA. it was so delicious I had to and that encourages me to come back on the next visit and try a flight of the selection.. After parking in the lot next to the brewery and coming around through the front doors, it was easy to see why people would be enticed to sit out in front on a beautiful afternoon and the customer area outside. read more

I've been coming here for five years and this place has gone seriously downhill. The beers are now nine dollars apiece. Always understaffed. Today I got the wrong beer served for my partner and I and instead of giving me a refill the guy behind the bar proceeded to serve the next two customers in line, totally unacceptable. This place is a shit hole and the beer isn't even good. It's just a decent spot to come to when Del Cielo is busy. won't be long until your doors are closed just like your neighbors. They have a food truck but we did not have food this time around. The bathrooms are kept clean and there is a small public parking lot next to the brewery. Located in the heart of downtown Martinez, Five Suns Brewing has a nice outdoor patio that's perfect for a warm day or evening. They seemed to be kid friendly and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. As for the beer, I really enjoyed their sour ale. After my first beer, I wanted to venture and try something else, but the sour was so good I had to order it again. My wife ordered their seltzer and really enjoyed it. Unbelievably cool space. The brewery is tiny with a glasses garage door but the outdoor space is beautiful. Tons of shade, the ground is pavers and lots of live music. The best part is not the brewery tho! It's attached to an outdoor bar and food hall that has everything from oysters to sandwiches. This spot is worth going to even if it's out of the way. For those who don't know, Martinez has a pretty cool craft beer scene and Five Suns seems to be at the heart of it. The brewery itself occupies most of the huge building that Five Suns is in, with a bar and event space in front that opens up to a beer garden with a food truck parked in front. There's a dedicated parking lot which fills up pretty quickly, but street parking is available for the overflow. The indoor space is really nice - there's art from local artists hanging on the walls and the second level mezzanine has a pool table that's totally free to play. The beer itself is great and the seltzer in my opinion is even better! We'll definitely be back to check out the live music events and work our way through the entire beer offering. read more

Friendly clientele We happened to come yesterday and there were a lot of parents with kids since Santa Claus was set up around the corner. We waited in line and I was disappointed to find because it was busy they wouldn't pour beer flights. My husband got an IPA that he liked. I passed. It wouldn't have taken any more time for a 4 beer flight than for me to ask to taste some before deciding what to order. We made ourselves comfortable on the patio and enjoyed our evening. I've never not been able to get beer flights at a new brewery before. It wasn't that busy and a few minutes later, there was no line at the bar and no servers either. The best thing these owners did was relocate to their new location. This place is so much fun. Food trucks are always here so you can grab a bite to go with your beer. Great outdoor/indoor seating with most tables with an umbrella when it gets super hot out. Their food truck partnership might be on a rotation? I know there was a ceviche truck a few times, but this past Sunday it was a taco truck. They also had live music too. It's definitely dog friendly! They even sell dog snacks and can provide you with a water bowl. Their beer selection is good, but limited compared to other breweries. You can also mix flavors for their hard seltzer which is flavorful! My fave is guava + mango! I also enjoy their pilsner. read more

Wow. How Martinez has grown. We used to live in the area, and it was a shock to visit after several years and find not one, but two, breweries in the downtown area. The food court and outside area did not exist either last time I was downtown. The location near the river is very nice. My issue is that most of the food court closes early so we didn't have much choice of food to eat with our beer. But that isn't a knock on the brewery itself. This is a pleasant brewery to grab a beer and enjoy on the outside patio. I enjoyed the flight, but it wasn't outstanding. I'm pretty spoiled with the amazing craft brews I get where I live in the Pacific northwest. The other issue is that plenty of other people enjoyed as well, and the tables were pretty disgusting and needed a good cleaning. read more

Located in the heart of downtown, this place has an amazing ambiance with a little park nearby, an open patio area and rotation of different food trucks. Beer selection is great and very tasty! I tasted their Singularity which is a Double IPA (9.4%) and it was just what I love in a great DIPA. The Seltzer's were also amazing and I really enjoyed how open and spacious the area was. They even have a mini arcade and plenty of amazing restaurants nearby all within the same block. The option to bring in your own food is great too as it allowed my party and I to eat local within the area, and with some tasting Bula Pies (the food truck at that day). Tasty beers with good food and well priced? You really can't beat that. My wife and kids visited Five Suns this Sunday after shopping at the Farmers' Market. We had some delicious non-alcoholic beer, actual beer, and a chicken sandwich and loaded fries from the food truck. A big shout out to the Curry & Combo food truck -- their food is a cut above normal food truck fare, and we will be looking at the Five Suns food truck calendar to see when they will be back! The new location is great! It's spacious inside and has this separation that opens into the outside patio area. The patio area is much bigger than their original location and there are heat lamps outside so you can keep warm. It's a bit dark out there right now but I'm not sure if they're planning to put more lights outside. There is also a section in the back with games and pinball machines. It wasn't open yet when I was there but hopefully it will be soon. The place is super dog friendly and the workers are also really friendly! I like all their beers especially the classic OG Burst, Singularity for something strong, and the new Downtown Bramble is a solid tart ale. read more
