Recently took a two night workshop here, and very impressed with the Pleasant Hill Community Center. Modern, new and, dare I say, elegant - this is a 21st century community center. Comfortable, roomy classrooms are well equipped for a quality learning experience. A variety of groups give presentations, the Diablo Valley Mac Users Group was in another room. Dance, yoga, Zumba and more can be found here. The lobby is attractive and a pleasure to stroll through on breaks. Even the rest rooms are top notch. Cudos to Pleasant Hill for a great job with this center.

The gazebo is lit up at night perfect for night shots of the lovely couples !!!

I am impressed with the new and improved Community Center! As a Pleasant Hill Wedding Photographer and Wedding Videographer, it takes a lot to impress me visually but this place (a hidden charm) really blew my socks off! The grounds are breathtaking at the right time of day it's a haven for photographers. I love it most near sunset time. The interior is well kept and updated and the views from the interior surrounded by cathedral height Windows and glass wood structures can really take you away and make you feel you are in the woods even Lake Tahoe like! You can bring your own caterers too BONUS!!! If you're planning a wedding in this area, come and check this place out you will love it if it fits your theme! I loved the photographs and video we produced here ... You won't be disappointed!!

I just had my wedding here on the 9th! Amazing & beautiful venue! We had 250 guests so the place was perfect for us! Ryan and Linda were so nice and accommodating to everything we wanted and needed! The clean up crew was amazing too as we had an ice sculpture and dole whip machines so they were very helpful with communication too!

Are you young, new to the city, and like meeting new people?…read more Then WAKA Kickball is for you! I've been playing for 5 years now. There are several days you can play, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday. Each Day of the week has a different vibe and level of competition. I mainly play on Sundays which is a little less competitive than other days. And it gives me enough time to recover. After the games we head to our sponsor bar to hang out, drink, and play flip cup. There are usually 2-3 parties that happen every season as well. I've made some of my best friends playing kickball. You should too!

Really fun and really great way to meet new people in a new city (or when you want to make new…read morefriends in the city you've lived in for awhile). Every league is different, so it's worth trying a few if you don't like the first one you are in. The kickball is fun but it works really well when paired with the drinking games after. The most important thing is to find a league where the post-game bar is on a night where you can afford to drink and is easy to get home from (i.e. no driving necessary). A good post-game means it doesn't matter whether you are on a team that loses every game. There is a mix of players and some have played for a few years and understand the strategies and have experience, while others are just starting out. Signing up as a free agent is pretty random, so you can get placed on a completely new team or as filling out an established squad. Most people are generally friendly and welcoming (beer does that to you).

They took the time to be sure that newcommers met everyone there so they would be comfortable. They encourage cohesiveness both in the players and the families, and are focused on developing strong players in the right way, with good sportsmanship and integrity, unlike some clubs we've had experiences with. Coach Joe made an immediate impression on our crazy girl. He has trained and developed her love for the sport. He makes a connection with his players, and knows how to connect with each of their different styles and personalities. I have NEVER experienced ANY of Pac Rim's coaches yelling at an athlete. Some of these old ratings are just rediclous! Come join our Pac Rim Ohana!

My niece played for this same club 2 yrs ago after I warned my brother & seems things have not changed. I myself have coached & reffed, so I understand the concept of competitiveness & wanting to win. BUT, not at the cost of kids at young ages learning a sport & constantly being yelled, screamed at & belittled - I've seen this being done to 11, 12 yr olds. Some kids do not ever get in rotation to even play an entire game, after traveling hours to a tournament. Roger or the coach will give you some BS excuse, I've seen it first hand. But when I witnessed a coach tell a player you cannot play today because I saw you eat "4 fries" last night, that is a different type of mental abuse to a 14 yr old girl who was NOT even on our team! That was a small example of what consistently went on. Please do not put your child through this and find another club that not only gives them the format & training, but the confidence, guidance, & teamwork building that should be taught at this age.

Review for Adult Male Basketball Only -…read more Pleasant Hill rec sports is a good place to work out your aggression and competitive fire on the bball court. There are generally three levels of competition with 10 games each season, and playoffs for the top 4 to 6 teams. The games are fun and most of the teams/players are friendly. Keep in mind, individual player stats are not recorded, so this league is strictly for those who want to come and play to win, not for individuals who want to boast their egos. The fees are reasonable, about $80 per person if you have a 8 to 10 person squad, and it's pretty well organized. The only issues i have: *The refs are rather inconsistent, which can be very frustrating at times * The scorekeeping is also inconsistent, so it requires your teammates on the bench to make sure points are given to the right team * Scores are not updated weekly on the website, but rather sporadically. However, a paper copy is available every week in the gym to see team standings I'd recommend anyone who wants to play organized bball to give it a try here. Keep in mind the stuff about the refs and the scoring, but overall it's pretty fun. My overall score would be 3.5 stars

At our first game of the summer, the grass was thigh high (I'm only 5'1", so you can only imagine!) and the fires were still going on all over Cali. Maybe it was the smokey air, or the thigh-high grass... but I had the worst experience trying to play soccer!! I've been playing for over 10 years, and I couldn't believe how much I felt like a novice stepping onto that field. Thankfully, the parks dept cut the grass by the next game, but it was still high on my ankle!! What is with this crap? I can't believe I'm paying $12 more on top of the regular fee because I don't even live in Pleasant Hill. Parks and Rec need to get their crap together.

I have spent a long time debating whether to write this review because Starlight was once a place…read moremy child genuinely loved. Unfortunately, many of the issues that ultimately led us to leave were not isolated incidents, they were patterns that existed for years and appeared to worsen as the owner took on more stress. Constructive criticism is not an attack. Honest feedback is not disloyalty. The common denominator throughout the concerns many families raised was leadership. Communication problems were present long before the recent turmoil, but they became significantly more noticeable as the program grew. Important information was often delayed, incomplete, changed without explanation, or communicated differently to different groups of people. Parents frequently found themselves piecing together information from rumors, social media, group texts, and other families rather than receiving clear and consistent communication directly from leadership. The situation surrounding the temporary location (without heat/AC and wall) and construction delays was particularly frustrating. Families were repeatedly given timelines and explanations that changed over time, creating confusion and eroding trust. We were told at one point that construction was halted due to human remains being found, this was false. As a parent of a neurodivergent child, I was also disappointed by decisions that appeared to overlook the needs of many students in the program. Despite the owner stating that Starlight is "inclusive and welcoming to all". The owner even going as far as stating "LGBTQ and neurodivergent kids are my specialty". One example was the creation of a teen group chat used for communication while excluding parents from those conversations. Most of the students involved were freshman, many of whom are neurodivergent and rely on adult support to manage schedules, stay organized, and process information. Removing parents from those communications created unnecessary barriers and left families struggling to ensure their children had accurate information. I was further troubled by comments made about students and families. Hearing a neurodivergent child who was struggling emotionally described as "throwing a hissy fit" demonstrated a lack of understanding and compassion that I would expect from a youth program serving diverse learners. I watched as students were guilted into taking on more responsibilities/roles than they wanted despite their feelings being clearly communicated. Likewise, hearing concerned parents characterized as "entitled" was disheartening. Parents were not asking for special treatment, they were asking for transparency, consistency, and accountability after investing significant time, money, and trust into the organization. The saddest part is that the students were often caught in the middle of adult decisions and conflicts. The children showed up to learn, perform, build friendships, and pursue something they loved. They deserved stability, professionalism, and leadership that modeled healthy communication and accountability. The students deserve nothing less. One of the most frustrating aspects of this experience is that many of the concerns raised by families over the years have never seemed to be genuinely acknowledged. Instead, there appears to be a pattern where criticism is immediately dismissed, explained away, or attributed to misunderstandings rather than treated as an opportunity for reflection and growth. Even when families take the time to leave thoughtful feedback or reviews, the response often seems focused on defending decisions, challenging the person's account, or explaining why their experience wasn't valid rather than recognizing that multiple families may be raising similar concerns. When every concern is attributed to a misunderstanding, a disgruntled parent, or someone who simply doesn't know the full story, it becomes difficult to believe that meaningful accountability is taking place. At some point, when the same themes continue to emerge from multiple families over multiple years communication issues, lack of transparency, shifting narratives, exclusion of parents, and dismissive responses to concerns. It is worth considering whether those concerns deserve genuine reflection rather than another explanation for why they aren't true. Again, constructive criticism is not an attack. Honest feedback is not disloyalty. Families who speak up are often doing so because they care deeply about the students and want the organization to succeed. Unfortunately, too often it felt like those voices were viewed as a threat rather than an opportunity to improve.

Under the direction of the new dance director, Miss Gemma, she has been growing leaps and bounds. There have been some recent changes made, and we feel that things have really improved in the way of organization, communication, and professionalism. We love all of the staff at Starlight. They are are professional and beyond welcoming and loving. Most importantly, the children in the program are thriving. This is my daughter's second year with the team, and to see her now is just incredible. We are so happy with the dance program and the theatre program. Another thing worth mentioning is that Starlight shows are incredibly well put on. You will not find a more beautiful show than ones performed by Starlight. The sets, the costumes, the music, the acting, the singing. Just wow!!! I've never seen anything like it. When I go to their Jr Broadway shows, I feel like I've stepped into another world. The passion behind this performing arts company is incredible!! Chelsea and her team are wildly talented, and they know how to pull the best from every performer. We feel incredibly blessed to be a part of the Starlight family.
