I finally was able to attend a Elite Yelp event and meet Julie! She greeted us with different mimosa options, donuts, coffee and Yelp goodie mugs! She was a fabulous hostess! The Holiday Pop-up Shops did not disappoint either. The boutique shops had such unique gifts of all kinds. I was able to have my mother in law come with me and we both were delighted we found some Christmas gifts for our loved ones. The vendors were so friendly and helpful. I definitely will attend next year! Thanks Elite Yelp for including me on the guest list. I hope to attend more in person events in the coming year!

The Christmas tree at the pop up shops

Every vendor was bright and cordial. There were treats and drinks. I bought gifts for people. There were unique gifts that I was able to purchase. Oklahomans are the best people. Everyone treats you like they have known you for years. The sun was bright, but of course the wind was biting. However I liked that we were outside and several shops in one area.

Shop local shops. Local OKC that is.

2015 holiday shopping doesn't get any hipper than shopping in the holiday "pop-up" shops. They literally "pop-up" in a day. They are there for several special weeks before Christmas each year. You can't miss them. They look like giant snow globes.  THE CONCEPT  Not that I know really what the concept creators were thinking, but it must have been something along the lines of.... Wouldn't it be cool if local vendors could drop into Midtown for a week right before Christmas and take up shop in giant snow globe looking spaces...?  We would want as many vendors to get the chance to "pop-up" as possible, so let's switch it up each week. That way local OKCers have something new to explore each week when they come. And let's throw in some holiday music, a giant Christmas tree, a Christmas tree lot, food trucks, and be sure to invite a local non-profit doing good in our community to come in, take up shop, hang out for the few weeks and sell their products for a good cause while we're there. Sounds like a cool plan, huh? --- Well, it's an awesome plan. I love the vendors. I went each week this year. I saw so many amazing locally made products. I can't wait for them to "pop-up" again next year. The lot they "pop-up" on is located next to Bleu Garten at the intersection of 8th & Hudson.  I hope they "pop-up" again next year. I can't wait to see what they have in store to make it a magical spot again next year. Thanks so much "pop-up" team 2015! You did a great job-looking forward to next year!

Pencil Shavings Shop in Midtown

These pop-up shops are really cool. To shelter themselves from the start of winter in Oklahoma, they are inside of dome looking clear structures. Each space is small, but able to fit a good amount of inventory. One could easily just peer in and get a good sense of what's inside without having to go in. Every weekend five new shops are featured. The first week included shops like Urbane and Pencil Shavings Studio. Excited to see the next few shops! For those wanting some fun, interesting, or cool ideas for Christmas --- check out the pop up shops and support local businesses!

I had never had the privilege of shopping at the holiday pop-up shops. With two of my very best friends in tow, we braved the icy Oklahoma winds and with coffee in hand headed out. What a joyous, fun shopping experience! These local shops are overflowing with fun, eclectic, unique items you won't find anywhere else! From hand-made soaps, linen sprays and beautiful woven sweaters and coats to hilarious gifts, bbq seasonings, locally brewed beer, fresh cut Christmas trees and delectable sweet treats. We spent over an hour wandering around the lot visiting each shop, squealing and ooohhhhhhing at the assortment of items for purchase. And the stuff is only the beginning. Can I just take a brief moment to write about the phenomenal vendors who put these pop-ups together? Everyone was so helpful and so kind and - it doesn't even really need to be said, but I'm going to - sooo talented. Support your local stores and take advantage of the amazing quality and variety of our Oklahoma businesses. We so enjoyed our time and cannot wait to get home and wrap our speciality gifts for our loved ones. The delight that will ensue on Christmas morning because of these wonderful goodies will be epic. We love you Oklahoma!

Cartoony kitsch.

Three and a half stars. Half a dozen gift vendors set up tables in the cafe by the ice rink. Bookstore showing kiddie books, tourism book, cookbook. Vintage shop with mannequin hands as knick knack holders, antique shears, plush ribbon. Seasonally scented candles. Kitschy-cute housewares and accessories. Very cute idea for a one-stop rescue with those folks you never quite know how to shop for.

Love holiday pop ups! Bought a new pair of sunglasses and enjoyed seeing shops I may have never gone to before tonight! This is truly a magnificent addition to the holiday season.

Earlier this year I visited an At Home store for the first time in Washington. I had never heard…read moreof them, but when we were in need of some inexpensive home goods, it was recommended and it did not disappoint. I had picked up some area rugs and decorative pillows for our fifth wheel and wished I had had more time to peruse the store. This time while in OKC, I saw the store nearby and decided to take a stroll. Holy moly it's huge and dare I say a bit overwhelming! You can easily set up an entire apartment, house, RV, dorm room or whatever space you need to take care of here at a very reasonable price. I was merely visiting, so I had limited space since I had already shopped galore during my stay. It didn't stop me from picking up a few small seasonal items though! The cart I was pushing had a map of the store, which was very helpful. While I didn't walk through furniture or big items, I noticed a massive amount for both indoor and outdoor. The Christmas holiday section was enormous and I had the biggest smile as I walked through. I'm somewhat regretting not buying an additional suitcase; however, I know I'll be back.

I came in for a Christmas special from an email ad, and it was right inside the doors displayed…read moreeasy to find. I found some good clearance items too. And used my birthday coupon to make it even cheaper. I've always been a fan of this store. The cashier was kind too.

I hung out with Mike for a while yesterday, learning more about his great little shop in the Plaza…read moredistrict. I love that this is never the same store twice, because Mike is out searching for pieces almost as many hours per week as the store is open. Specializing in mid-century furniture and kitchenware, you'll also find lots of cool ashtrays, paintings, lamps, and home decor items. He also finds a lot of classic stereo cabinet, which can still be used. We ended up purchasing two side tables. They were in great shape, and have a lot more character than anything we would have found down on furniture row. We also got a cool old pull-down, schoolhouse-style map of South America. Since Mr K lived in Paraguay and I lived in Brasil, I think that's a cool addition to the study. I'm a fan. I'm sure this is the first of many things I'll be purchasing from Mike over the years. He posts photos to their facebook page as he makes new finds, and he will also offer to stay on the lookout for something he knows you're looking for. I can't wait to see what he finds next! Note: If you're there during business hours and the shop is not open for some reason, please call the number on the sign. He may be at an estate sale or at a private in-home appointment, but if you're there and he's not, just give him a call and he'll be back. He really does work hard to be there during regular hours. If he's not, it's a fluke.
