Then they up and told me they had employees walk out on them, which is why I would have to wait an additional hour for them to pick me up, then after a week after the rental made a damage claim on me BUT they didn't know I take time location and date stamped photos of my rentals at pick up and delivery, so they will not get any claim through. This is not the first time they have done this andd I plan to pursue it this time in the courts and media if I must. Then the manager took the keys away from me and told me I don't have any coverage on the car, when the place was about to close. Secondly who would be that stupid to do that in front of the business. Alert!!!!!! Beware!!!! So we got a flat tire little before 5 AM on our trip home. Obviously we put…read morea spare on, drove nearly an hour to the next exit and then we waited until 8 o'clock to call the office. There was no instructions in the car on what to do if you have a flat. All we could find in the pamphlet was to not make any repairs unless we talk to the company first. So after calling at 8 am we learned that we were responsible for replacing the tire. Ok... Finding a tire and waiting for it to be mounted took another three hours. While waiting that time we realized we were very lucky that first of all, the spare had made it the hour to the next exit because it was on it's last leg, balding and nearly flat. I have pictures. We also realized at that time that the tire that blew already had a plug in it and was completely dry rotted. I have pictures of this as well. Which led us to investigate the other tires and we noticed that we were running on balding tires that were also showing signs of dry rot. This was so evident that the technician that replaced the tire had us sign a waiver stating that he advised us not to travel on the remaining tires because they all needed to be replaced. I have the copy. To which comment the "manager" made after I showed him the pictures, "We don't look that closely at our tires." I feel we replaced a tire that should not have even been on a vehicle. I feel we should not have been driving a family of five to FL and back on the tires that were on that vehicle. If their policy is that the renter replace the flat tire, shouldn't the tire be in safe operating condition to begin with? Basically they got a brand spanking new tire put on their mini van to replace a tire that I couldn't get five dollars for if I tried. Not only did we lose six hours which brought us home late for things that we had planned that day, but we also had to pay for a brand new tire that replaced a tire that never should've been on there to start with. The manager and salesperson offered no restitution, only repeated that it's the mechanics job to check the tires, it's the renters responsibility to replace a flat, and that we could talk to the owner on Monday. He didn't race along, just went with the flow of traffic, felt nice and secure on I-94 & the Dan Ryan. Coming back from the trip, our train was 4 hours late arriving. William kept in communication with us via text, and was right there when our train finally got in. Price was considerably less than the other two limo companies that I got quotes from. Also, originally we were going to get picked up from Chicago Union Station, and we changed it to Homewood two days before before we left. There was no charge, and the person on the phone at Americar shuttle changed the reservation quickly, courteously, and no change in price. They seem very flexible and customer oriented.

We were fortunate to get truly excellent weather to head out onto the lake for a boat ride with…read moreHarbor Country Adventures! We went on the Classic Lake Tour. Our tour guide was a retired high school history teacher and football coach with all sorts of interesting stories about the region. We passed Mount Baldy, the "living" sand dune that moves, at Indiana Dunes National Park and made it all the way down to a good view of the Century of Progress homes before making our way back. We also got to hear all about the ship, the Emita II, which is a historic ship from the 1950s, and about how it reached its current home. It was also very cute that Captain Jan had the kids come up and take turns at the wheel on the way back. There is a snack bar on the lower level of the boat, and there are restrooms on board. Free parking is available a little walk away - walk towards the Lighthouse Museum, as the dock is behind there. Definitely a great adventure!
