We been coming here every year for over 15 straight years. The good is, staff is friendly , most sites are shaded nicely with mature trees, they allow the use of your own golf cart(some parks do not). The prices are in line with competing parks. Some of the less good things, low water pressure( not enough pressure to run our instant hot water system)poor signal strength for TV, a restaurant that is rarely opened( probably staffing) which is where the ice cream shop is also. There is lots of noise after the 11pm quite time, little to no security that I've seen, over the years we had stuff stolen, coolers, bikes. So now I bring chains and locks and chain and lock everything up at night. I think last couple of years things has went down hill somewhat and not for sure why, it's a nice park, but I think they've cut back on spending and repairs. We travel to out of state campgrounds and you notice the difference between a park that is being taken care of and one that is beginning to fall short. Went here for a Country concert the other night. Really well organized concert and a little difficult to navigate the park with the help of signs and volunteers. I could see myself returning to an event here. They had quite a few vendors and food truck. read more

I have been coming to this campground for almost 30 years with my family. We used to spend every July 4th there as our family getaway. After this past weekend, I may never stay there again! I love the main pool activities with the exception of nobody is held accountable for their kids running wild and being rude. People ride by on golf carts all hours of the night with music blaring. What happened to quiet hours?!!!!!!!!! I'm up for a little late night fun but we were kept awake by people with 3 foot speakers blaring on different sites around us playing music until 4 am and start again at 6 am. And what about no more than 2 tents, 6 people & 2 car max per site????? The sites on each side of us and across from us had 6-10 tents and 20+ on one site. You could barely drive down the little road for all of the cars lined up AND the toddlers & kids that were walking in the middle of the road with no parental guidance. We called the office several times with no answer or emergency number to call. We called the guard shack several times and nobody answered. Found out the next day that the people around us got 2 Warnings and the cops called on them but they were still allowed to stay at the campground. The bathrooms and property are disgusting compared to how they used to be!!! We ended our vacation a day early because we couldn't take anymore! They did refund the night to us. In my opinion, they are too worried about making money that they don't care about overcrowding and making others miserable. Judging by the reviews and others I have spoken to, this campground is losing faithful, long-term families! It truly is a shame! read more

Welcome to Holiday Trav-L-Park site 831 Virginia Beach VA. After sleeping like a "rock" Armstrong and I did a bit of early morning campground exploring! Located just 1.5 miles from the oceanfront, the Holiday Trav-L Park offers 1000 campsites - approx. 300 full hook-up, 400 water and electric, 250 tent sites and 34 cabins. A bit of campground history! In the 1960s, Phil Upton's father-in-law, Ralph "Pete" Boshers, owned some land in Virginia Beach that attracted a team of developers. They wanted to put a campground there and offered to bring Pete in as a partner if he'd simply supply the land. It wasn't that simple, though. "When the team went to the bank to get development loans, they had to use the land to secure the loan," Phil recalled. "And as development progressed, they ended up running out of money. They had to declare bankruptcy, and they were going to lose the land to the bank." Pete wasn't about to let that happen, so he took on the project, worked to complete the campground, and in 1974, he opened the park to the public. read more

The grounds are really nice! Unfortunately the water pressure was not the best but they have facilities to use. It's a really nice vibe going on here and everyone is very friendly. We have been coming here for the past ten years, and I know of others who have been coming for many more. We love this campground because of the activities that are offered, which include bingo, bands, djs, and different special events throughout the year. One of the biggest events the park offers are their Halloween weekends in October, which are always sold out. There's trick or treating, a flashlight candy hunt, a "haunted circus" and more! The comfort stations are cleaned on a regular basis, and even on the busiest weekends are usually in good shape. Of course there are always times when kids make a mess and it hasn't been cleaned up yet, however the staff works hard to insure this doesn't happen. During the summer months, you can use your parking pass to park at the designated parking lot at the oceanfront, which is nice because parking at the oceanfront is always a nightmare during peak season. If you're looking for a fun place to spend some family time, definitely book here, you won't regret it! read more

We like this campground because there are trees to shade us and they have a parking lot that is free to campers near Virginia Beach. They have four pools and several playgrounds. They have DJ's sometimes at night at the pool so you can swim and listen to music. The price is right too. Much cheaper than the KOA nearby. They also offered free putt putt one day on a cute 18 hole course. They have a dirt bike area as well. They have a nice large laundry mat too. read more

What a great weekend for our first stay here !! The weather was chilly- mid April, but I didn't see puddles of water and mud everywhere. The sites are somewhat close in certain areas of the park , but area closest to their outdoor event place , had bigger sites. The campground is so cool with its statues, tented and heated igloo outdoor pool (outdoor pool as week). We had so much fun at our first Sertoma festival with all you can drink and eat ! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The check in process was easy. The camp store had all kinds of things to buy- food, pool and outdoor items, RV supplies . Thank you for a great weekend ! Unfortunately, our stay was a big disappointment. The bathrooms were unclean, had a strong odor, and there weren't nearly enough of them for a campground of this size. The grounds were poorly maintained, with scattered trash and an overall neglected appearance. While rules were posted, they didn't seem to be enforced--we saw children driving golf carts (fast!)--clearly against the rules. The arrival packet advised to lock our bikes and vehicles--something that should've been a red flag about the overall safety and security of the park. There was even a person who stayed overnight between the restroom and vending machine, which added to the disappointing and unsafe atmosphere. Also, the campground sits right next to a Naval Air Field--a fact not mentioned in the brochure--so loud military jets fly overhead frequently. Definitely not the relaxing getaway we had in mind. The staff is super friendly and the location is really nice and clean. We stayed here during a festival and was in a cabin. It had electricity, AC and heat, a fan, beds , and lights. You had to shower and use the bathroom in the community bathroom, which was clean for the most part other than the floors in one bathroom stayed disgusting the entire time. But the other bathroom was always clean so that was weird. I checked in before me and my husband would arrive, which I'm glad I did because I booked this room in October and forgot what it came with and what it did it come with. So I would have completely forgot sheets for the bed. It would probably be nice for them to send a reminder with your reservation reminder just stating what the room has inside. read more

Friends of mine wanted to go camping for the weekend, I'm not much of a camper so I decided I would try the whole Glamping thing. I wasn't sure what to expect when I arrived at the gate I was greeted by this very nice woman she fell in love with my little dog and made sure that I brought her back to visit throughout the weekend. Once I arrived to the check in to get my key for the cottage I was greeted again by someone who is very pleasant and very informative. I asked her several questions and she was very helpful. She even had a gentleman escorted me down to where my cottage. Once I arrived at the cottage I was very impressed it was very clean very spacious and it had everything that you could possibly need. If I can only make one recommendation I really think it be nice if they had a TV in the master bedroom. I'm sorry also if they would add a little stepstool or something to get up on the bed in the master bedroom because it was very high for the vertically challenged. There was cable and there was Internet there was a nice couch in there a dining room table full size bathroom. The kitchen even have pots pans silverware dishes glasses everything that you would need for basic cooking. There was a small deck on the front that was nice to sit at. Good night with you arrived it was actually raining and I sat out there late night listening and watching the rainfall it was very peaceful. On the other side of the cottage it was a fire pit with a picnic table there was plenty of space for you to really enjoy yourself. I could honestly live there full-time. I would highly recommend other people. I forgot to mention they have plenty of amenities a laundry room a very large convenience store for a golf course the pools even heat it for the winter. There's plenty to do you can even rent golf carts to get around the campsite's. Me and my friends had so much fun and that we are even looking into coming back again in the very near future. We tend to only visit during bike week and every year it's always a great time! Book well in advance as our site is already reserved for next year. They always have good bands over the week and weekends with plenty of things to do. The place in comparison to our normal spot where we typically leave our RV, is huge in comparison. If you like your peace and quiet, this may not be the place. If you like a lot of things to do and a lot of people this is it. Our kids like it because there's so much they can do also. read more

Great place, good family time. Staff has been super friendly as well as everyone we have interacted with here. This was our second time staying, last year we had an rv and thought we would simplify with a cabin this year. That being said, we did have a few issues, things that could be fixed. We originally booked here because we were told it was dog friendly. My husband and I were debating about bringing our family dog rather than put her in a kennel, so I called to confirm fee, if dogs were accepted in our "air conditioned" cabin sat july 18. I was told dogs were prohibited in cabins. Arrived saw dogs at 2-3 cabins, called office, asked about dog rule and was told we could have brought our dog in the "air condition cabin" and it would have only been $5 day extra. Bummer we were misinformed and shelled out over $150. Next issue - bedbugs. I knew when I told them I was getting ate up, it would get flipped and if they came to look they wouldn't find them. Well guess what, I did tell them our second night because I was ate up really bad. I had even put all sheet and blankets in dryer for 45min after first night and still got ate up second night. I could actually feel them biting me and have not slept well. Just a heads up. I'm really grossed out, it's our last day. Kids are in bunk beds haven't had a bite but my husband lays next to me and his knees are ate up too. We are going to pay to treat everything we brought including our suv when we get home. Not the kind of end of a vacation I really want to do on top of expenses for treating for bedbugs. I am not allergic to anything not poison anything so I know it's not a reaction to nature greenery. Not a happy camper that I'm ate up and itchy. Otherwise, we have had a great time!! Between the DJ, karaoke, 4 open pools, putt putt, golf cart parades and light up parades - it makes it the perfect place for family. Free parking in private lot 1 block over from beach is included. Amazing!! Even though we had a few issues, the memories this place has brought us have been phenomenal and already planning on returning next year in an RV. read more

Very clean and nice park. We used the free parking lot at the beach, it was nice perk for the campers. We only gave the campground three stars because we stayed at the premium section ( paying extra ) surrounded by old trailers in storage. Some of the trailers are raged out and haven't been touched in long time! The other sections did not have the Rv storage. Being in premium lot should not feel like middle of Rv junk yard. read more

Rules and camping etiquette don't apply here. It's ok to drive a golf cart if you are a kid and if you are a drunk adult more power to you. You can have as many people as you can fit on your campsite for a party and play your music so loud that everyone within 6 campsites can hear it even inside your camper. We have been coming here for over 10 years and every year it's a little worse. The campground needs some love regarding roads and drainage. Campsites are not clean when you arrive and occasionally you are camping near a camper that looks like it should be condemned. I don't know what's happening here but I hope the owners take notice of what's happening to their campground. read more

This was our first stay here. It's quite expensive for the crappy sites they have. They told us we had a level and wide site. It was wide for sure, but it was far from being level. The family in the next site had their fire pit right next to our hookups, so if we had stayed, they would have set our rv on fire. The roads are very narrow and mostly dirt. The park moved us to a different site. It wasn't level or wide, but it worked better for us. We had full hookups and the site was dirt and leaves. Made it hard to keep the inside of the rv clean. Trees had large acorns on them and they fell on our rv all times of day and night, scarring the dogs. The military was flying loud jets over us every day, starting at 9am and again at 1pm to 3pm. It was so loud, we had to wear ear plugs and they hurt our dogs ears. We would never want to stay here for a long period. We read the park rules and we abide by them, but no one else does. The campers across from us let their 2 big dogs bark constantly and tired them outside while they were inside. They would open the windows and take off, leaving the dogs to bark constantly out the window. It was really annoying and management didn't do anything about it. They came out at 6:30am and started up their Harley. It ran for 20 minutes with owner gunning it off and on during that 20 minutes. We complained to management but they didn't do anything. They said we could move, but we weren't the campers breaking ALL the rules. Per their rules, they should have been kicked out. This park charges outrageous fees for everything. If you have a visitor, it is $6 per person for over 2 hours. That isn't per car! like most parks. We were here to visit friends in the area and they recommended this park. However, after our stay, they won't be recommending this place to any one. Management needs to step it up or find new management. We saw dogs allowed to run loose and bark. We were just waiting for one to bite us or someone else. We weren't told it was a special event weekend when we reserved our site and they didn't tell us after we got here about the events until we asked. Campers were partying into the early hours of the morning and no security any where to enforce the rules. It's really hard to sleep if you're sober camping here with all the riff-raff. We're not sure we will return to camp here. We definitely would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

We have a brand new class a camper and vehicle and had to drive that and park it in mud, bc they are doing renovations or add ons to the park. Pretty nice campground...didn't get to experience the full place since pools were not yet open (pandemic ... They open July 1st) but for the weekend since we stayed in cluster of cabins and a campsite. Really just stayed around there...there was a pond nearby with box turtles and heads of snapping turtles (so watch out could be dangerous) and much later at night frogs because kids were catching them. Nearby us was also a gaga pit - I will leave out the game explanation - but needless to say it involves a ball and a lot of movement to dodge the ball! Perfect for kids but hey adults can enjoy it to just expect to be really tired... The cabins are nice we had they had a bed, bunk bed, table, AC and just enough space to drop your stuff to hang out outside with the picnic table...or when you get multiple cabins just put them together. We covered with table covers and used tacks and then put up canopies for cover. The bugs at night can get pretty bad but Deet based big spray works good and the having a fire in the campfire rings are helpful too especially if lots of people around have fires too. Really popular to ride around on bikes or golf carts...I even think they offer rentals but one of our friends had a golf cart which was heavily used. We also had a campsite ... And I'm not sure if they had electrical connections there but we did at the cabins and used extension cords for all their power needs on the porch. Rather close to the beach ... They do offer free parking but it's tough sometimes to find an open space and when you do go you need to keep your paper in the car on the dashboard. Bathrooms were pretty good shape - not very clean for showers but good enough and better than most others I have been at. Could have used more stalls but it worked...not always hot water but seems most of the time. read more

We were surprised at how spread out and big this campground is! Our actual site was huge! And we could spread out a bit- kids had a blast playing outside around the rv since it was very woodsy. It was really dark at night though. Wish there were more street lights. We didn't get to use the pool since it was a little chilly but we did hear it was heated. Our trailer was stored easily in the storage lot. We even had our icon meals shipments sent to the campground and was waiting for us when we arrived. Kids participated in all the weekend Halloween activities and had such a fun time!! There was no sewer hookup but they did have a few dump stations which we used at we exited. The landscaping is beautiful and decorated fun for the season. We would for sure come back again. read more

This was my 2nd visit and we love this place! They had an incredible pre- Halloween weekend. Decorations, costume contests, live music and DJ made it amazing. The atmosphere, amenities, proximity to beach and people make this place great. This is mainly campground for the active, partyish crowd who have campers or motorhomes. If you come here expecting woods and quiet surroundings you will be likely dissapointed. If come expecting to have fun, play music, bicycle, meet others and dance you will enjoy your stay. I really enjoyed how safe it felt to have the kids meet new friends and explore the campground. The campground feels secluded from the outside world. I really like the tent sites and cabins. They are located towards the main entrance. We loved the different lit up and decorated golf carts everyone had. I was surprised how well stocked and reasonably priced the store was. An uber to the VA beach boardwalk was about $10. An on premises bicycle rent is $20 for 24 hours. It take about 25 min riding slow (2.5 miles) to reach the boardwalk. On the route is a waterpark, go kart track, aquarium, and elevated ropes course with zip line. The bathroom aren't the nicest we have been to nor are campsites very large. There seems to be some large pot holes on the unlabeled access roads that are in need of repair. read more

Speaking of hot tubs, there wasn't one which would have been really nice! We enjoyed the campsite and there were live bands during the day with tons of kids activities. Our son likes dancing to the music and everyone was very friendly. The little market shop is a bit too hoarder like for my OCD nature but the clerk was very friendly and we did find what we were looking for.. running trails were awesome and everything is located close by! To be perfectly honest, I am not a 'camper', maybe 'glamping' but that's really pushing it up half a notch! Based on yelpie reviews, we opted for this park over the KOA across the street. We were 'warned' that it was 'biker' weekend. What we didn't expect was very late night Harley sounds(til 2am), cussing my neighboring campers, and some 'flashing of private parts' at another neighbor's site. SO, this shows me that this place doesn't enforce their quiet time rules. The campground itself has cabins, full hook-ups, and lots of open space for events. And, they hosted several bands this past weekend. Dogs were welcomed, and they also have 2 fenced-in dog parks. We didn't let our dogs off leash because it didn't appear to be very clean. The sites are very close to each other, there's not really any barriers for semi-privacy. Upon checking in, they didn't really explain 'trash pickup' or any other amenities. I'm hoping it's different on non-event weekends, but for us, this place might be too overwhelming for a nice quiet camping weekend. read more

This is a great resort campground. I do have to put an * here and say that if you want to make the most out of this camp ground and Virginia Beach in general you must come between Memorial Day and Labor Day. This campground has 4 pools, two camp stores, laundry, restrooms/showers, and a ton of campsites. Campsites range from the rustic woods to the sites with electricity and water hookups and everything in between. They also have horseshoes, basketball, arcades, and a fantastic mini golf course that since they've redone it is better than most places along the beach. Holiday Trav-L Park is even a short bike ride to the beach and Ocean Breeze water park. This place is super cheap and a great way to spend a summer vacation. The only negatives are that there are lots of sits that are right next to eachother out in the open without trees or anything inbetween them. What you won't get here is a giant private site in the woods. Also it's worth noting that the air force has a base nearby so you'll get loud jets overhead from time to time. read more

We've been staying several times a year since we bought our first camper a few years ago. Large campground with nice amenities. Full hookups on most sites and there are also super sites with cable and large concrete pads. There are several pools and clean bath houses too. To address a few reviews about the jet noise, the park is in the flight path for Oceana Naval Air Station. And its not constant. These jets help protect our freedom, so if the noise offends you don't book here. There is a nice camp store here and a private access road to a convenience store that's part of the property. They have almost anything you may need while camping including gas and fuel. This is a family friendly campground that has stuff planned almost every weekend. read more

We stayed at Trav-L in early October of 2020. We chose an RV site with water and electric, no sewer. We loved the fact that we were in a loop that was away from The main area and could socially distance and have some quiet and privacy! They did a great job at describing the site so we could chose one that was level and easy to hook up to. The staff were courteous and kind. Unfortunately, there were a lot of downsides to our stay, and they mostly had to do with other guests. Our first big issue was that on the second day we were there, someone stole our outdoor mat while we were at the beach. My children told me that another child on the playground informed them they were dropped off there by their father while he went golfing. I told an employee who was driving around the property on a golf cart about the situation but the child remained unsupervised for over an hour. The third big issue (which I hesitate to blame the park for) were the mosquitoes. They were so bad we could not open the door without several flying in. They weren't as bad out of the park, and the only reason I attribute them to the campground is because of the multiple pools left uncovered and filled with water. Finally, we were never made aware when we booked or checked in of any activities taking place during our stay despite the fact that they had a live band and multiple Halloween activities during our stay. It would be great if they could provide something informing guests of what is occurring while they are there. Overall, I think the park has potential during the summer months when everything is up and running, but I would hesitate to book during off season ever again. read more

Wow, didn't know this place existed until I got invited to an oyster roast here. This place is great for people that may be more into glamping than camping. The cabin I stayed at was clean, had a heater, and the shared bathrooms ("comfort station") were nicer than expected. Golf carts for rent, bonfires in front of your cabin, pools, mini golf...definitely not like any campsite I've ever been to. Awesome place to throw an event! Very pretty during the fall. read more

It's a terrible place! The campground should tell the customers that there is a jet base nearby. The jets has Daley training. The jets fly over the campground every 3 minutes from noon until 11pm!!! 11pm!11pm! The noise extremely loud just like the Bomb explode at your ear! The cars keep alerting because of the noise. It's really spectacular that more than 10 RVs press the horn together to show their anger! Don't leave here unless you want a fast heart rate! read more

I was wrong on my last review, there are 4 pools. Still good enough for me though! I love this place, the camp site is huge (for tenters). They fixed up the bathrooms which are so much nicer now! Different designs, mosaics on the walls. Every bathroom has a different theme to it. The main pool that stays open till I believe 11, it's slightly crazy. They've built a new cafe attached to the pool area as well. It's just perfect. No competition with KOA across the street. We met people who actually came over from there before because the campground just sucked. Holiday is basically near everything. A mile from our FREE beach parking (better get there early for spots - although it is a bit of a walk near the "popular" beach area, it's do-able though), wal-mart, shopping centers, gas stations, mcdonalds, the aquarium, the highway. At the camp resort there's activities, golfing, band, a DOG PARK they must have recently put in, so much etc's! I'm a fan and I'll always stay a fan! Their store is open till 10pm I believe, they basically have everything else but Tylenol. They have this powder Acetaminophen, not in pill form. Also, the two Russians who work graveyard shift, they were drinking beers while sitting down at the bathrooms, relaxing on their rounds. read more

I will preface this review by stating that I understand each campground has a "culture"; that is, behavior and traditions that are accepted as the norm. There is nothing wrong with this, but based upon guest behavior, this Trav-L-Park was just not for me. We stayed in early April 2021 and during the week the park was quiet (aside from the expected fighter jets from Naval Air Station Oceana). However, on the weekends, it got crazy. The park allows golf carts and EVERYONE has them, making the sites feel very crowded. It would seem that the tradition here is to speed around in your carts, while blasting music (some with NSFW lyrics) and drinking until you are blotto. If this appeals to you, then go for it, but I just could not relax with all this going on. As far as the sites go, the one we were on in Eden Circle was terrible, as were most of the others in this section. No shade and in desperate need of several tons of gravel to facilitate drainage. Our site was a swamp, as the pictures will attest. There was a little deck where the picnic table was, but it did not align with our trailer door. Many of the other sites were just grass and dirt; not a great value for the condition they are in. On the plus side, they did have one of their pools covered and heated, which was nice. Also, you are close to the Virginia Aquarium and there are a lot of flat, paved biking trails with easy access to the beach. read more

Bottom Line: Positives: Great location, helpful staff Negatives: overcrowded, dirty, Mosquitoes, disrespectful guests, poor drainage If you want a stay where campers respect other campers and their surroundings this is not your place. Although the comfort stations in theory could be nice, campers treated them worse than a porta potty at a music festival. We visited 3 separate ones and each was in the same state... unusable (Men's and Women's). It made you wonder about the sanitation of the pools. Constructive solution: If the campground is going to allow tent camping on every free inch of grass, ensure cleaning staff is prepared to clean on the hour and every hour...or better yet, limit tent camping to reduce overcrowding. I visited Holiday Trav-L Park for the 39th annual Norfolk Sertoma Spring Fever last Saturday April 5th, and you couldn't have asked for better weather. This is my 3rd Sertoma over a 5 year span, I skipped the last 2, and each one has been here at the park. They have a large spacious event area in the back of the park for these types of events and can easily get several thousand people back here. There's an area for a stage, beer trucks at either end, a large out door covered dining area with room for two lines, etc. There's also plenty of shade so you don't have to be stuck in the sun all day if you don't want to be. Our event lasted from Noon to 6pm and we ran into a bunch of old friends, made several new acquaintances and sampled a lot of food and liquor in between. One of my favorite things here each year is the beer battered hush puppies. There's also some excellent BBQ and fried Tilapia along with the regular staples of a good cook out. We always have a great time here and all the money goes to community charities. Where else can you catch a buzz and do something good at the same time? As always, the day is to short and before we knew it the event was over. However that's the sign of a good time, always leave your audience wanting more, and so once again I'm looking forward to the next year. read more

staff only wants to do their job half way, their other half is to argue Virginia law which they don't know. Gerald at the front desk was a clown. Stated that our dog barking was an issue due to the dog being left unattended while we went to the store.... The dog was barking due to someone messing without our site.. doing what a dog should do protect property.. But yet people can play music at all hours of the night riding around of golf carts half drunk... read more

This is a great campground. All the staff is very nice and they run a very well organized and clean place. We always get the premium sites in the back and we come in September for several weeks. It's a great place to stay read more

Spent Labor Day weekend at this camp ground, it was our first time here as we usually stay at KOA which is right across. We decided to try holiday trav-l park because we have heard good things along with them having a lot of amenities included. We paid about $200 for 3 nights which is pretty affordable but beware if you have any additional adults guest more then two on a camping space you'll be charged $6 per night per adult. The only pool that was open was the main pool in the entrance of the campground but it was extremely packed all the time. There was no social distancing enforced and no signs for masked required anywhere besides the front door of the registration office. The bathrooms are FILTHY. (Bathroom number 8) They are "cleaned" throughout the day supposedly but i saw the lady come by and just spray them down. There was only two showers that actually worked that had complete running water and 3 that barely worked. Coming back from the beach and having sand in your hair you need some type of pressure in the water to get a nice wash and with these showers you won't get that. Overall, the good things about this site is that it's pretty affordable for the location and you get free parking to go to the beach. There's also running water and electricity plug on the site.
