Clean bath houses. Friendly staff. Some of their RV spots even have personal dog fence areas so you don't have to set up your own fence. Never seen that before! I rented a deluxe cabin for 6 which came out to roughly speaking about $900. Checking in was a breeze and the staff was kind. Upon entering the cabin was where I was displeased.... 1) Cabin shower head is filled with mold so we're not using it. 2) They have a blow dryer that's melted just looks dangerous. 3) The bathroom sink is clogged. 5) Dirty dishes stacked on a shelf. 4) It's infested with tiny roaches. My biggest concern is driving 7 hours to enjoy this experience and yes I expected bugs but roaches inside come on, the first night we saw water bugs the big roach but they were outside on the deck. Figured that was normal since we have the cabin facing the woods. I don't leave any food out everything in zip lock bags in the refrigerator. But the second night (today) we saw 4 roaches killed 3 one got away. I just hope on my way home I don't take one of these roaches with me. You can tell house keeping isn't thoroughly cleaning. There were dirty dishes on the shelf like a jelly on a plate and they were wet still, (an ideal habitat for roaches) anyways a bit worried about staying another night due to the roaches they killed the mood. read more

This is a great campground with nice sites and lots of amenities. We don't normally stay in premium sites with a patio but that's all that was available and it was very nice even though it cost more. The other types of sites were nice as well. The site was large & level with dedicated additional parking. There was enough room for us to park our 45' RV, F350 and Harley. But to have extra room we parked in the extra parking. We would definitely stay here again. read more

(If you dont get the small cabin) We originally got one of the small cabins, mosquitos everywhere, no sheets pillows or bedding but a thin mattress made of faux leather and you could feel the slats. I was about to rate this 2 stars but then turns out all you have to do is ask! We asked the front desk and there was a deluxe cabin available! We booked it and immediately switched in! The people at the front counter were so incredibly nice and friendly no matter which cabin you stay in! The second cabin was large with comfortable beds and a toilet this time! The pool was beyond words! Water was perfect temperature, shallow end a bit less than 3 feet and deep end 5 feet, the lazy river was so fun too! There was also giant chess, ping pong, and hammocks and jump pads! As long as you don't get the small cabin this is gonna be the best place you ever stayed! read more

The check in process was easy. Staff was friendly. The store had the common items and things you may have forgotten to bring. Bathrooms and shower were clean. The only bad thing was the spot itself. The cabin was spotless, comfortable, and surprisingly spacious for my wife, baby, and me. Every staff member we met was friendly and accommodating, and you can really tell they care about making guests feel at home. What a great place for roughing it in a small camping cabin. This place is awesome. Everyone here smiled and waved Hello, after I smiled and waved hello. I love that. The place is nice with well cut grass and beautiful plants. I had a whole 1/4 football field in front of my cabin. My neighbors were nice. Strangers at the pool were nice. The place is really big and has a lot of room for outdoor fun and a lot of bath houses. I'll say, I was impressed with the bath houses until Sunday night/Monday morning, where they were left unattended too. Or, well, the one closest to me was. Maybe taller trashcans might help instead of the 1ft house bathroom trashcans that are currently in there. However, that's a people problem too. Not all KOA issue. The pool is great. I swam around late evening on Monday. They have about a dozen washing machines. An ok camp store $10 for wood was pretty steep and a couple ice machines. Lots of RVs and campers of all shapes and sizes. I enjoyed walking around looking at them all. Some people with dogs did a Great job of having a bit of fencing area in the shade next to the RV. There are also at least small dog yards I saw as well. Very nice. I was extremely pleased with my camping cabin with no kitchen..But did have excellent air conditioning with was loud enough to keep outside noise out but not so loud to keep you awake. It lulled me to sleep easily. I always take my sleeping bag with me everywhere. Sometimes, I just prefer to put my sleeping bag on top of the bed and sleep in that instead of bringing linens. Also, the mattress was Super comfy as it was wrapped in a heavy utility plastic cover, similar to a type of tarp texture. Awesome. I don't see or touch any mattress. (See pics) The area is next door to a military base so we got to hear a lot of jets and other types of flying military objects in the sky. Similar too, but different from camping at First Landing State Park near the Chesapeake where you hear Neverending semi-automatic weapons shooting all night. Didn't bother me at all. I find it to be cool. Great eats nearby and oh! They offer a shuttle from the KOA to the VA beach. I didn't partake in that but good to know! So much to do on-site KOA and in the area itself. Tried to book a cabin starting at 3:30 online. Site kept saying "error had occurred." Called both numbers for the campground. One rang and rang and never picked up. The other number rang to a voicemail saying leave a message...but mailbox was full. Tried repeatedly. So we arrived there at 8:30, and a nice gentlemen greeted us and asked if we were checking in. We explained our situation and that we wanted to rent a cabin for 2 nights. (There were obvious vacancies, by the way) He was on his cell with someone (maybe manager) and asked, and replied that they said there was no way they could rent a cabin starting"after hours." Tried to plead our case due to the errors on booking site, no one answering the phones, and a full voicemail...but was told, sorry, there's no way they can rent a cabin after hours. Not what I would call very customer-service friendly, KOA Virginia Beach. And btw...empty your voicemails or answer your phones. read more

Me and my kids needed a little vacay. So we went local and got a room at Koa off General Booth. It can add up pretty quickly if you go during peak times. But we went during the week and got a reasonable price. I also got the membership which saved 10%. This was our second visit. I advised them i am terrified of snakes so we lucked out by getting a cabin right at the entrance. I booked online and everything went pretty smoothly. The website is pretty straight forward. We arrived at 3pm for check-in which took about 10 minutes or so. The lady who helped me was nice and informative. She got us in and out and advised of the amenities. They have 2 pools, a jumping pad, inflatable water slide, golf cart rentals, a small store, a trolly to the beach, and more. If you want extra activities its best to stay on the weekend. They have food truck events, movies, and other activities then. We still had a great time even though it was limited. The pool stays open till 9pm so that was a plus for me. My kids really liked the trolley ride to the oceanfront. Its $4.50 for a day pass and kids ride free. I am a talker so i made friends with the drivers. Lol. They were all nice and helpful. The cabin was too cute. If your not into outdoor camping and want amenities like air conditioning, a refrigerator, a bathroom, microwave, and beds. The cabin is the way to go. The main bed is comfortable, but the bunk beds have really thin mattresses. I reminded my kids they could be sleeping outside, and they got over it.. Lol. Each comes with a grill, patio table, and a rocker. You also get 1 parking space. The area was pretty quiet for the most part. They are doing construction in the area so if your outside you may hear it during the day. But it wasn't a problem. The bathroom comes with towels, shampoo, and soap. They even have zip lining nearby. We enjoyed the serenity of being out in nature. The cabin was awesome!! I would love to go back. I did read some negative reviews, but my experience was good. There was a lady who complained the office staff was rude to her. So i guess its hit or miss. My trip was pretty good and i wasn't ready to leave. Lol. We really enjoyed this campground. It had two pools that were never full and a nice playground and dog park. It had games out for adults and kids. It is a busy campground at the beach so the spaces (length wise) didn't really fit our camper well. And, yes they knew the length. We had to park our vehicle in overflow parking. The patio and furniture on the deluxe sites was nice and in good shape, but dirty. The "activities" they have on the sheet at checkin was not accurate, but we were there for the beach, so wasn't a big deal. And, they have a shuttle to the beach! Which was fantastic. The area is beautiful and a long walk to town was just right for me to explore. They have a decent dog run. They had a huge festival for the harvest set up for kids. There were empty sites, including one next to us,but they didn't let us move. Overall, it's fun for kids. I will look for an alternative the next time I'm in the area. read more

Our vacation was ruined due to bedbugs in the cabins. Half the family went home after the first night. Cleaners came out saying the insects were not bedbugs and we trusted them. The bitten family moved to other cabins in the reunion group, believing management, spreading the bedbugs to other families. FYI. They were bedbugs. We only got a refund for one night in one cabin. We offered to give up the refund if the campsite would let us have free access to laundry machines to get rid of bed bugs before we left. THEY REFUSED!!!! Refused!!!! With multiple cabins, with the trip to the laundry mat, this cost us thousands. Contact Virginia Beach city directly. Management insisted on telling a retired City of Chicago inspector that he didn't know what a bedbug was after he brought one of the casings in. read more

We stayed in the extended stay area. It is my least favorite extended stay yet. We have been full time 5+ years. Where do I start? 1. The site we were in was swampy. If you want more gravel, you pay for it yourself. In the site next to us, 3 different rvs got stuck. KOA was aware of the problem, yet never corrected the issue. They were ruts everywhere in the site. They didn't even fill them in. 2. The site next to me had an open sewer pipe, I told a maintenence man, his solution was to put a paver over it. It stayed that way the whole 6 months we were there. 3. Speaking of utilities, the sites sewer is literally like 3 ft away from your patio area. 4. We had to have a breaker replace in their box, the maintenance man complained the whole time how they did not have the right parts to fix it correctly. He tried fixing it, still no power and then try to blame my rv. After I said no way, he literally took parts off another breaker box to fix mine. 5. And last but not least, the rats! They are the size of a small cat. I would definitely call them wharf rats. They are aware of the rats but do not want to put Bait boxes out because of the cats. One of my neighbors killed 4. I talked to others in the extended stay area and they were fighting them too. I went as far as to call an private exterminator and he was very familiar with the KOA rats. My rv smelled like a peppermint factory and that seemed to keep them away. I only found rat poop but never caught one after putting bait boxes under my trailer, lots of christmas lights and peppermint oil. In conclusion, I would not stay there again. I thought KOAs were sopose to be a step above all the rest. I was wrong. It has been 3 months since were left there. I'm not writing this review angrily. I failed to mention so of the employees sites, some of them were an eye sore. If I was vacationing there, I would not want to be next to them. i think in a different time I would have LOVED this place. We rented a deluxe cabin that can take up to 8 people for our group of 4 adults and 2 kids. It was great change of scenery to have our family all together in what was pretty much a tiny home complete with full kitchen, wifi, and lots of space for the kids to play inside. Fire pit in the front, grill and tables in the back. We were in the cul de sac area which was very quiet. Not sure how the busy RV section was, but it seemed very crowded. Staff was great and lots of activities for the kids to run around. Why only two stars then? I came here to have some safe fun times away from home. I didn't appreciate the almost complete lack of covid measures being taken that were publicized on the websites. The registration office had signs and markers about masks and social distancing, but the staff themselves weren't wearing masks. Definitely know that they cannot control all the guests and what they do themselves (we are mostly outdoors of course as it is a campground) but I was not happy that many staff members would not even wear masks at the front desk. While understand it is totally my choice whether or not to attend any gathering, my expectation was that the staff would be doing what they can to host a safe event. They had childrens activities and snacks passed out by staff not wearing masks and no enforcement or even mention of social distancing. Again, a nice place overall, but I was expecting a little more in terms of COVID safety especially as these are standard protocols that are posted on their website and I expect and have seen from other establishments that are currently open and operating. read more

This was our first trip to Virginia Beach KOA. Everyone was very friendly and constantly zooming around on golf carts performing cleaning and maintenance. We had one of the patio sites, with the additional furniture, fire pit, cable tv, wifi, asphalt pad, and concrete patio. It was nice to see the pools were still open as many close after Labor Day and it's still quite warm in Virginia later in September. We visited the last weekend in September and the park seemed to be about 1/2 to 2/3 full. The extended stay area was quite full, but in a separate area of the park. There was no shortage of activities and probably a good value for families with children. You wouldn't need to leave the campground and it appeared to be a safe area for kids to ride bikes and play. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, weekend themes and activities are abundant. Musical groups, food vendors, kids activities, ice cream socials, etc. are common during the summer months. The reason for the three star rating was the value for us when we visited (the last weekend of September). The rate was $92 per night (after our KOA discount) with no weekend activities occurring during our stay. It's also the peak of hurricane season during this time of year and part of the trip seems to include rain. For us, traveling without children, $40 at the state park is a much better value and an easy walk to the beach. The City of VA Beach had also cancelled the beach trolley service from the campground. Even the supersites at the Holiday Trav-L park are a better value at $75 per night during this time of year, with equal to or more amenities and activities. read more

Poorly managed our last visit. We consisted of several families with young kids camping so had specifically chosen the "premium grassy pad" options for our tent sites so the kids would have an area to play in. Instead of 3 "premium grassy pads'", which cost more than the other spots and which we were charged for, we received one with grass and 2 that were rocks, mud, and asphalt. Attached is a pic of one of the spots. When we requested what we reserved, they said they understood why we were upset but that everything was full and they had nothing else to move us too, even though our receipt clearly says 3 premium grassy pads. No discount or refund was given. They also didn't enforce the noise policy of quiet time after 11:00, we had a HUGE party next to us going strong still at 2:00 am when we finally called the after hours number to complain and had to call twice to get anything done. At 6:00 am the party started again. I give them 2 stars bc they have a nice new playground, a fun in ground bounce pad, and are in the process of upgrading the pool. Fun amenities but much less fun when you have super cranky kids bc no one can sleep and when you also pay more for sites you don't receive. read more

We have stayed at many campgrounds across the US. I did not particularity like or dislike this one. They did have a few problems, fast cars (no speed limit enforcement), no security, a dog park with no pickup bags (which led to piles of poop), small sites, large potholes on the campsite roads and a management of "will listen but not do anything because we deal with 2000 people a week attitude". They also had some good things,the double slide pool, the jumping pillow, and a clean and very well maintained laundry room. Since this was just a hub for all the other things we wanted to do in this area I just lived with it. We will be returning in the future and will stay at the Holiday park across the street. read more

I'm not a camping type of person. This was cute though. We did have an issue with our reservation in the beginning (requested an 8 person cabin, but they gave us a 6). That wasn't going to work. We had 6 people, but 3 large men in a 6 person cabin isn't comfortable. We got the 8 person cabin and it was better. Shower bigger, living room bigger + extra set of bunk beds. You have to put your own linens (they provide) on the beds (not really bedding, just padded mattress). I didn't really like that. They provide plates and utensils as well. But I'm iffy so I bought disposable ones. There's only one bathroom... no matter what size cabin you choose. I think they're maybe be some without bathrooms... why would anyone choose not to have a bathroom?! It is a cabin... in the woods... so there was ants. They kinda infested the area where the plates were. A little bit of bug killer spray took care of them. Also beware of chiggers!! They are evil!! Overall it was a cute stay... would I do it again? We stayed here a few times and every time we did the power or water would be shut off for hours with no warning. That is extremely unprofessional and rude. The office staff was always cold and rude. I would expect to have good service being at a KOA like others we have stayed at before, but it was far from it. The bathrooms also smelled terrible. We went to a gym to shower everyday because we felt more dirty coming out of their showers. Also, we get text messages from them still about the campground and the power or water seems to be off every other day. read more

Staff was EXCELLENT!!! (This must be emphasized!) Infrastructure not so much. Memorial Day weekend they kept blowing transformers, so much of the weekend everyone was running generators. The deluxe spots for the big rigs are small, the blacktop is so weak that the leveling jacks sink into it. There is a big tree in almost each deluxe spot which prevents you from deploying the awning. Water slides weren't running because of a lack of power. They did refund me 2 days, which was great and all, but the holiday weekend is spent. Staff was awesome though. First time here. Their store / reception is very nice, updated, modern and clean. Friendly staff. You can use the bathrooms and showers. They have the pools closed off but most things seem open. They have golf cart rentals for $62 a day, bike rentals, you can play some outdoor games, and they had a free outdoor concert with cheap ice cream. At night and in the morning it was so quiet. I did not hear a sound even though all the RV sites were full. They have nice pull thru sites with a patio. It was something like $154 a night on June 13th. Only thing is they don't have their own parking lot like Holiday Travel Park does so you need to find and pay for your own parking. Note - for some inexplicable reason the governor of Virginia made it so that public parking in VA beach is only at 50 per cent capacity so you end up paying $10-40 to use a tiny cramped parking lot. Nice going.... Overall I have a good impression of this place and we might return. read more

Made reservations for 01/24-25/2020 to attend my son's sports tournament. Arrived at 4:50 pm 01/24, office was closed and locked and no staff anywhere to be found. A lady doing laundry at the laundromat in the same building as the office saw that I looked confused and told me that late check-ins were at the guard shack in a steel box. I found our "check-in packet" and proceeded to our site. The alleyways to the camp sites are poorly marked, and what signage was available was so small and poorly hung you could not read it without stopping. Upon arrival at our site it was spongy and wet. There was fecal matter in the area of the utility post/sewer hookup. It rained the next morning and our site was a pond and mud pit, as it had not been graded and graveled like most of the sites nearby that weren't mud pits. The electric hookup had sporadic grounding issues that were indicated on my surge protector. We paid for two nights and stayed only one because the place was in our opinion a dump. No one at the office to speak with and at $50 per night plus taxes in the off season way over priced. I've stayed in KOA's across the United States since 1983 and this was the worst one to date. BTW there appears to be a large section 8 full time contingency living on the grounds that were in and out all night doing God knows what. read more

Pass this koa by !! They don't disclose to you that they use bad well water. The "fresh?" water they provide is disgusting ! The water smells and takes like rust and rotten eggs. You can smell it when you shower or brush your teeth. Then it fills up your whole RV with rotten egg smell. You can smell it on your skin. Your hair is so dry you can snap it in half. They don't sell filters in the store, which you will definitely need. I am worried what kind of damage this will do to my lines and water heater. Cutting this stay short. I won't go into how they don't have concrete pads and since it rained prior its a mud put that hasn't dried even after 4 hot days of sun. Other than that it looks ok. We reserved a basic tent site for an overnight stay; check-in at 3pm and checkout at 11am the following morning. We were rudely awakened at about 8-8:30am when a Dominion tree-pruning bucket truck with attached woodchipper rolled up to our site. They had the chipper operating not 15 feet from our tents, which is a hazard if you don't have ear protection. Above our site was a man with a chainsaw, dropping limbs down onto the picnic table and tent area. Now to be fair he wasn't directly above the tents, but having done tree work in the past with a reputable company, I know that what they were doing was not only rude, but unsafe and unprofessional. If myself or my crew had been operating in this manner, we would have been fired. We had wood chips flying into our tents, our gear and our faces. When I approached the groundsman operating the chipper and asked him why he thought it was ok to operate so closely to us, he mocked me. I wound up having to yell at him and his partner to stop what they were doing and leave. When I went to find a KOA staff member and complain, no one was readily to be found. We finally came across a KOA staff member in a golf cart and told her our concerns and she shrugged and said there wasn't anything she could do. We sent KOA a message regarding this over a week ago with still no response. It is very clear that KOA DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY AND WELLBEING OF THEIR GUESTS. We'll be staying at Holiday Trav-L-Park next time we come later in the summer. I've included pictures below showing how close the crew was to our site. read more

As my boys say, they spoil us. This campground has it all - beautiful pools (2), a tasteful park/play area for kids and adults, a ZIPLINE!, very large patio sites with high quality furniture, adorable cabins, activities, quiet time that's actually "quiet," a wide variety of restaurants nearby and the list goes on and on. The staff are always friendly and it's an anomaly to see the same staff year after year. We're picky campers, so take it from my family of four - If you're visiting VA Beach, there's only one place to stay or you're selling yourself short! read more

I'm sorry I just can't see paying 80.00 dollars for a Wednesday night stay at an Rv Park. We were in town visiting and decided to give our hosts a break by stay in at an Rv Park for the evening. Calling for price and availability I came across this KOA ... 80 some for a weeknight during COVD restrictions, wow you'd think a price break was in order since business is dismal. So I did the right thing and drove to Chesapeake campground , $41.00 and the place is great. No beach , but it's cloudy and raining so I'm very satisfied. read more

DONOT book here!! We paid for a premium site, and booked this in Feb 2022. Our vacation is may 2022. We arrived and what was supposed to be a premium site, that backup to woods, is a high priced RV site baked up to a construction site. This KOA sold the wood right next to the premium site, so 30 feet away you wake up to dich diggers at 7:30 in the morning!!! We asked to be compensated for this becase they never notified us they said no. We stayed 2 nights and left. This is a waste of money considering how expensive it is!! Jen and Josh, the mangers said they could not compensate for the difference in the premium site to a regular, that was all we were asking. The construction goes on ALL DAY, instead of peering into woods you watch a massive pile of dirt with trucks digging! This is not a relaxing vacation, its a vacay from H*ll!!!! read more

I was surprised to find out that my reservation was not adjustable once I set it up. Never have I had such awful accommodations and customer service. When plans change, the bill is already paid, and they refused to do any sort of date adjustment or refund. Basically, if you want to book here, make sure that you are arriving on the day that you plan to arrive, and not after (even if you call to let them know) as they will not give you any grace when life happens.
