Two days the same person rang me back and said they couldn't fix my bike because he was told they don't have the room or the facilities to fix my bike, strange because it has bike repairs and bike service on the sign and it's not as if I was handing in a Boeing 747. I went up and asked him what they couldn't do it and he said because it was a different bike to what they sold they won't do it...it's a standard bike, nothing special, it just needed a nut and bolt. So I walked out and brought it somewhere else, told them the story, they laughed, fixed my bike on the spot and gave it back to me that day. I probably won't go back there, thanks for nothing

Gadgets?...well, I am male, we have an inbuild love of flashy essentially useless things! I discovered the ultimate one here - the 'Reelight', a set of two lights that sit on the frame of your bike and are powered by magnets as your wheel spins... fantastic. It costs about 46Euro but definitely going on my Christmas list! Leaving that aside the shop is packed with accessories as well as bikes, a very useful place to know about.

The new(ish) bike to work scheme provides you with up to €1000 for a bike and accessories, given that your work buys it. MacDonald's is a keen supportive of the scheme and thus keep their shop well stocked. They've got a partner shop on Wexford Street, which was first opened in the 1920s. The shop in Rathgar is a newer addition, but it's still got that same family run feel. They also service your bikes in the shop and try to get back to you in the same day. Not a bad deal at all.

It's a fairly big warehouse space full of all types of wheels, and a separate section dedicated to cycle accessories and clothes. To be honest though, it's not that good. I don't know much about bikes, but the selection seemed to be heavily based on men's racers and mountain bikes. Not much in the way of women's or alternatives like fixies or hybrids. My main gripe though was that I must have been there for 15 mins, wandering round, wanting to part with my hard earned cash, but not knowing where to begin. In all that time, ain't no one came over and chatted with me or asked if they could help. In the end, I gave up and left. Customer service is key folks! You can have all the annoying jingle ads in the world to get people to your shop, but if you can't help em when they're there, well what's the point!!!

This shop is not just open to UCD students, it can be used by any member of the public. They sell bikes in here but they also do repairs, i'd say this is probably their main function. They are kind of slow with their repairs however, it seems they work to their own time and expect everyone else to use their time too. I don't want to put this shop down too much because it is a great facility in a great location. Of course it promotes cycling and facilitates people in their attempts at doing their bit for the environment. one nice thing about this shop is the fact that they will let you borrow their tools to do your own repair if its something small, maybe this is not something they do regularly but i reckon if you ask nicely they will help you!

I explained what I wanted to the assistant, who then disappeared outside to move a bike, then returned and asked what I wanted. When I said I had already told him, he trudged off upstairs and returned with the basked, without any fixings or attachments. I tried to see how it fitted on the carrier. He let me fiddle around for a while and then turned it at right angles and slid it in. "How does it stay on?" I asked. He glared at me. "Straps", he said. His surly silence and utterly unhelpful behaviour had made the point. These people didn't want to sell me anything, would rather I left. I left. And I won't be back. A pure cycling shop (you'll not find many triathletes shopping here!) in a cracking building at the bottom of Dundrum village, Joe Daly and his family have been selling bikes and their love of cycling for an absolute eternity. Personal touch is the name of the game and this place shows you don't need to stock hundreds of absolute top-of-the-range Tour de France bikes to get the customers in the door. Brónagh has already mentioned it, but Stephen Roche did buy his first proper racing bike, a Raleigh 753 on which he won the Rás Tailteann in 1978, from Joe Daly himself and remained good friends with him throughout his career. When Daly passed away in February 2010, Roche referred to him as 'a monument in Dundrum'. It is outside shop that the Orwell Wheelers (the largest cycling club in Ireland - orwellwheelers.org) meet most Sundays during the year, and with good reason - it's one of the spiritual homes of the sport. The range may be a little limited in store but I knew what I was after and it was in stock so I was one up. I am sure they would get you the model you wanted and let you try before buying. A little further research and I have yet to find anyone with a bad word to say about this shop. I have been led to believe that the mechanic is first class but I have no experience in that side. This time they offered to rebuild the shock....it was fine about a month then then knocking returned, returned to shop again. This time they said they would return the shock to Cannondale under warranty ,this would take two weeks, (a well I'm finally getting it fixed) . After a week they ring me and tell me there's nothing wrong with the bike and it won't be going to Cannondale to be fixed. At this stage I have the bike 8 months, and yes there is marks on it from being used. The manager tells me he can't give me a refund as there's marks on the fram. So it looks like I'm stuck with it. So this is my experience with cycle superstore, I certainly would not recommend them.
